Amy Adams Double Shot

Posted on June 17, 2013

Oh, Amy. Honey. It’s a little early in the Super-poledance to be looking this over it:

Amy Adams attends the premiere of ‘Man of Steel’ during the 2013 Taormina Filmfest 2013 in Taormina, Italy in a Dolce&Gabbana dress.

Sweetie, you look tired. Go back to your hotel room and order up a massage or something.

The dress is cute enough, but the lack of color annoys. And adding – god help us – a peachy orange as your pop of color with this undergarment of a dress does not speak of good instincts. The hair is awful but we do like the earrings. Better luck next time, Ames.

Next time:

Amy Adams attends the premiere of ‘Man of Steel’ at Cineworld in Saint Helier, Jersey in an Antonio Berardi dress paired with Casadei pumps.

Antonio Berardi Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Julia Frauche

This is way more up her alley. It gets way too complicated in the bodice, but the general shape and style of this dress not only suits her perfectly, but makes for a perfect superhero movie premiere dress, as Gwyneth demonstrated by wearing a much more ridiculous version made of dresses from the same collection to her little superhero flick red carpet.

Love her hair here but none of her jewelry seems to coordinate and we have to admit, those earrings look like costume jewelry. We’re sure they’re worth a decent sized house, but we’re not loving the shape and style with this dress. Still, despite its flaws, we like this look.

The bodice is a wreck, and its so over designed, its hard to even tell what is going on in the back. And I don’t think I want to know either….

  • Little_Olive

She is a sartorial deja vu (nothing against her).

  • Tatiana Luján

That forest green makes her look gorgeous.
I think her face looks very pretty and fresh in the first look, but that dress is terrible.

  • Oy. I hate when people say “you look tired” because we all know that’s just saying “you look like shit” but damn if she doesn’t look tired. The hair in the first look is lazy and unflattering. The overwrought bodice in the second dress is not her style, at all. The fact that it’s GOOP lite, is a major disappointment and a dash on my hopes that things will improve.

(On a side note, I’ve heard good things about the movie and hope to check it out this week.)

    • RedRaven617

She looks like her feet hurt. As well they should.

  • MoHub

Hair in the first ensemble looks as if it was trimmed with a hedger.

  • What a trainwreck of a design. Far too much going on. The blue-green color is great for her, but other than the general shape of the dress, everything else falls short, by overplaying.

    • StellaZafella

The front of the bodice…I saw- first thing- “Fleegle Puppet”…now I can’t stop hearing it saying “Hellloooo!” to me!

      • Work of this sort always ends up looking, not interesting, but frantic, and a trifle desperate. As though the designer felt compelled to throw everything into the mix in a desire to get our attention. Bad approach to design, always.

  • carnush

I like both dresses a lot, but the styling, especially with the first one, is just bad.

  • MsOlympia

She always just looks wound up so tight, like she’s about to snap and go postal on the red carpet.

    • Donna Tabor

She never looks comfortable at step and repeat events.

  • RebeccaKW

Did a professional do her hair in the first pic? B/c I could have done that exact same thing and charged her half.

  • MarTeaNi

I feel there’s some kind of statement being made when you wear big ol kryptonite earrings to a Superman premiere…

    • Kristin McNamara

I was thinking Christmas. But your kryptonite was waaaay better.

    • Bethany Roullett

Mental jinx! I was thinking kryptonite was a bad choice for a superman premiere too!

  • charlotte

In the first one she looks like the sad maid Ethel from Downton Abbey.

  • joanna dash

She is quite the fan of strapless dresses, no?

  • SugarSnap108

I cannot fathom the reasoning behind the design of that bodice on the second dress. It’s like someone ran out of ideas and thought slapping random pieces of fabric would have to do. The bodice colors are fabulous on her, however.

And yeah, those earrings do look like she nabbed them at a flea market.

  • marlie

I like the dress and the earrings in the first picture, but that’s about it. And in the second picture, I love everything except the earrings.

  • ballerinawithagun

If I would have been there I would have pulled out my tiny travel needle and thread case and sewn that midriff slash closed! 2 minutes and a great improvement! Great color on her. There is still too much going on (look at how many perfect seams I can create!) but interesting on paper.

The white dress is gorgeous, lovely details and then it is shot against a white background. I don’t understand this hairstyle of making a “bob” out of gorgeous long hair. You showed somebody else with that style last week.

    • conniemd

That was what I was going to write, just sew up that damn slit and while still overdesigned, the color of the bodice is gorgeous enough on her to overlook the otherflaws. But the slit looks like a ripped seam, honestly.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

Amy darling, go back to Carolina Herrera please..

  • AmeliaEve

The first dress does make some sense, wearing Dolce & Gabbana to an event in Sicily. For D&G, this is about as close to her wheelhouse as they get. It’s just accessory fail. And yeah, she looks exhausted and the hair is a mess. But the dress is actually appropriate to the venue.

  • She never really looks like she FEELS gorgeous, does she?

  • TLJezebel

She still looks tired in Take Two, though.

  • alyce1213

I like the white dress — it’s pretty and summery, but appears to flatten her boobs a bit. The shoes are a mistake — she should have gone with a sexy sandal. Bad hair!
The second dress, despite gorgeous color, is a gimmicky mess. Beautiful hair!

  • MilaXX

First look is cute, but she accessorized it in the most boring way possible. Second dress is better. I would like it more if the unnecessary under boob slit wasn’t there.

  • NOLA_gal

Wow. Is that, like, a mouth on the front of the green dress? That’s torso peeking through, right? Blech. Pretty color, though.

  • lexilexi

I like dress #1. It was in ITALY… down by the toe… hotter than hades… but she should have worn sandals…..

  • jonnyf8

Against my better judgment I saw her snoozefest of a movie this weekend and I must say Amy’s insipid Lois Lane made Kate Bosworth look on fire by comparison. I don’t expect anything of her in the fashion department. Has anyone ever seen her and Pam from the Office in the same room?

    • demidaemon

That’s too bad, considering she has been campaigning for this role in each of its incarnations for the past decade or so.

      • jonnyf8

        • demidaemon

Yes. She said she auditioned for the version with Kate Bosworth (not sure if that is correct person, but it was definitely a Kate) and for the Joss Whedon version that never made it out of the script version in an interview on Chelsea Lately.

(I apologize for that horrible run-on of a sentence.)

Wow, that’s some amazing fit on the second dress. The nipples are at the exact tip of the boob dart. (Psst, in other words the nipples are showing in all their glory in this dress).

  • quiltrx

The first dress would have been fine (with totally redone styling) for a photocall, but seems like way too little effort for a premiere.
The second dress suits her-the excess elements aren’t her fault. Wonder why she didn’t wear a gown to either of these?

  • 1tsplove

UGH, her shoes almost always look too big for her.

  • Dan_In_NYC

Love the idea of the second dress – it’s graphic and bold, good colors for her, and I like the shape. But all I can see in that bodice is too many seams and design elements. Remove all the seaming in the green (and those two little point things) and we have a winner. Without all the seaming, the little peek-a-boo would work more for me.

  • Love the second but yeah, the first, ewwwww

  • decormaven

What is the fabric in the white outfit? Looks like casket lining. Not appealing in the least. The bodice in the second look is overworked, but I do like that color on her.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love the white dress and her earrings, but the shoe choice makes my heart hurt.

  • Miss WKS

Suddenly I want to yell ‘GO PACKERS!”…

  • hey, i love those earrings. perfect for a lady superhero! they’d be fine if they’re costume jewelry (vintage), and if they’re emeralds, even better.

  • re: the first look…oh no, honey, what happened to your hair? did you take your extensions out by yourself right before stepping out? you need to lie down, then call in your hair gay on a 911 hair emergency.

  • Janet B

She should stick to a slim skirt, always.
Green and turquoise are her best friends, and off-white is better is small doses.

  • Danielle L

Overdesigned but that forest green is doing her all sorts of favors.

  • lilyvonschtupp

    2nd look: HATED IT
Especially with that cutout in the bodice. It looks like a bad PR project.

  • TheAmericaness

I cannot un-see “FEED ME SEYMOUR!” on the second dress. I can’t.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

Can a fellow TLo person like me please explain to me what she was attempting to do with her hair in the first pictures? Partially pull it up and it fell? I don’t understand it at all. Help me, people.

  • I like the second dress on her, too. You’re right that it fits her, and it looks right for promoting a comic book movie. The bodice does have one detail too many. It’s slit was unnecessary. It throws off the dress’s lines.

  • Shawn EH

Kryptonite earrings, pretty funny … she looks like one of Superman’s villains in the second dress, not Lois Lane!

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

This dress will never look good in any iteration.
