Zoe Saldana Double Shot

We are disappoint.

It’s a strange day in fashion when Zoe Saldana puts on a dress and suddenly the shape goes all wonky on her. The girl’s built like a mannequin. This shouldn’t be a problem. But regardless of the shape, that’s a terrible print to wear in front of any kind of backdrop like that. Poor choice of an outfit on that point alone. Then you add the totally incongruous, heavy, and frankly a little dated-looking shoes and the whole thing falls apart for us. We usually dislike a Zoe outfit because she aimed high but bit off more than she could chew. It’s rare that we dislike a Zoe outfit for just being a poorly chosen and styled disappointment.

Thankfully, Zoe doesn’t disappoint for long.

It’s not perfect to our eyes, because we hate the modern tendency to wear flared pants down to the floor, covering the shoes. And she sure could use some freshening of her makeup at the moment, but the lady’s rocking white flared pants, a sheer blouse and a bra. That deserves some kind of respect.

  • Is it wrong that I want to see Kerry Washington and Zoe Saldana is some sort of fashion/bitch face off? I think it’s my girl crushes on them.

  • I don’t think that was a great choice of bra for the job.

    • zenobar

So true. A really simple, sleek, exquisitely tailored bra would have made more sense.

  • aeb1986

We went from Sausage Friday to Underwhelming Monday

    • Rand Ortega

      Cutlet Monday?

  • Rand Ortega

Not loving the Sue Ellen Mishke’s that seem to be all over the fashionsphere. Hate the dress. Even if it were better fitted I’d still hate it. & the booties.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

It’s making me think of Rudolph Valentino in Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921), something about the stance, the unbuttoned shirt and the cummerbund. She looks great – and anything that puts me in mind of Rudi is okay by me!

  • Judy_S

I think we need to know the bra designer too. She looks great in the white, strange in the dress.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

LOVE the second one! Yes m’aam, she looks amazeballs! But that first one? Just dull.

  • Sobaika

The first outfit makes her look hippy, which I thought was downright impossible.

I love the second, but I almost wish there’d been another color involved just to break it up. A black bra instead of a white one, perhaps.

    • Allison Drury

Any dress that makes skinny little Zoe look hippy is just criminal! How is that even possible by the laws of physics?

  • TSkot

    Needs the cape.

    • conniemd

Yeah. I think the cape fit the Star Trek image better. I’m also too old to think that a bra should every be shown. I’d honestly rather see boobs and nipples than the bra.

  • She seems to be having herself a vaguely 90s moment.

    • Chaiaiai

Would have loved her to swagger in to “Hold On” by En Vogue.

  • MilaXX

No to the first look, and yes to the second. She giving ALL the attitude with that look.

  • mjude

BAM indeed. so charlies angels in the 2nd look

  • msdamselfly

I think the first look is attractive–like the hairdo

  • BrooklynBomber

Whoa. Who is that in the first picture?

  • Call me Bee

    First outfit–meh.
I would like the second much more with a cami under the sheer rather than a bra. Looks trashy. And her pants are too long.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

That is a perfect outfit for a Mexico City premiere, IMHO.

  • charlotte

I will never be okay with a bra showing like that. Is 23 too young to clutch one’s pearls?

  • flamingoNW

One of the few uses of a sheer blouse I can deal with. Looks great!

  • I don’t like any of the two looks.
She really looks 10 years older on the second look.

  • She looks like a tall Jada Pinkett Smith in the second look.

  • If that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.

  • jilly_d

Botega Venetta: for when you weigh 80 pounds but prefer to look like a water buffalo.

  • stubbornthoughts

I actually dig the first look. But the second look is totally badass, and only someone like Zoe can pull it off.

  • beebee10

  • E. D.

WTH is up with flaps and ruffles on the hips?

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I don’t need to see her bra. I don’t know why she thought I did.

  • capybara_cafe

The first look was shockingly disappointing, but dayum, look 2 is fierce!

  • l_c_ann

Neither, the first makes her look pear shaped and the second looks trashy. She’s too good for either, unless she’s trying to change her image.

  • Any dress that makes Zoe Saldana look heavier and hippier than she is should be burned.

I love the second look, though.

  • Pennymac

Holy crap. That first picture could be a diet “Before” pic, and the second one, 30lbs “After”. (Jenny Craig, worked for me.) Except they were taken within hours of each other. Which means, somebody steered Miss Saldana WAY wrong on horrid dress #1, and surely someone else styled her for look #2?

I’m normally not a fan of HERE’S MY BRA: LOOK AT IT! LOOK! But she looks slammin’ in that second outfit.

  • LaSylphide

That first monstrosity makes her look fat, which the second one amply demonstrates she is not. I’d prefer a lacy camisole instead of the bra, and loathe and detest flared pants, but over all, the white outfit gets a B minus.

  • bd73

mother always told me, no light foundation garments under light clothes. they standout against my skin and become visible. always dark undies, always. likewise printed undies. i was seven and wanted to wear panties with balloons under sheer yellow slacks.

  • TheAmericaness

Be honest – do you guys really “hate the modern tendency to wear flared pants down to the floor, covering the shoes” because then you can’t bitch about the shoes? It’s ok if that’s the case cause that’s my main reason. 😀

Edit: Additional: I’m just saying: How do you know if they truly got it right – like is it a WERQ if you can’t see the shoe? It could be a faux WERQ…. that would be awful.

  • quiltrx

I has a sad that she didn’t wear the cape with the second look. And that she wore her grandma’s bra.
And man, it’s something WAY off in the shape of that first dress. It even makes the model (who’s probably skinnier than Zoe but not by much) look large in the hip-thigh area. I can’t imagine that anyone at all would look good in that thing. It’s a shame, because I like the bodice.

  • ankali

Jesus, for that first outfit did she borrow the bottom-half fat suit Debra Messing was wearing a few posts ago?

  • shorty j

seriously, I know I am not the target demographic of these looks (being a butch drag queen and all) but all I can think when I see things like that second bit is that she forgot her shirt. Like that time I forgot to put real shoes on and accidentally wore fuzzy slippers to the office.

  • Tatiana Luján

I would have preferred that she wore a neutral bra and closed her shirt.

  • I’d be afraid to wear that first dress if it makes Miss Zoe look hippy. I would look like a semi.

  • StrandedFashionista

    I’m seeing a walk-off a la ‘Zoolander.’

  • lobsterlen

That first dress makes Zoe look chunky with a thick waist

Burn that dress at the stake and stomped its smoldering ashes into the ground.

  • H2olovngrl

    Shoulda worn the cape…
