Zachary Quinto Double Shot

Posted on May 10, 2013

Let’s close out our Sausage Friday observations with a doubleshot of hipster nerditry.

Zachary Quinto attends the ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ screening in New York City in head-to-toe Todd Snyder.

Love it; the hair, the jacket, the shirt – working like gangbusters. He’s finally figuring out how to do this look with some polish. The jacket is, as it always is with him, too small, though. We realize he’s like eleven feet tall, but still. It’s giving him Frankenstein arms and that’s a shame, because the look is perfect otherwise.

Zachary Quinto makes an appearance on the ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ show in NYC in Todd Snyder.

We don’t quite love the Boardwalk Empire hair but it’s so unexpected on him and it goes so well with the beautifully colorful outfit that we can’t hate. That color looks fantastic on him. Boystars need to get away from the blue/black/gray suit ghetto. This isn’t corporate America, after all. It’s tired. Embrace color, guys. It’s nothing to be afraid of. We promise no one is going to force you into a pink suit or anything.

Love-love-love the green suit. What a great color.
Needs a quick wrinkle-release, but I can’t hate. I also love it with the blue plaid check.

    • Patrick Cleary

That second look is sheer perfection. He’s going quirky without being attention-grabby about it.

    • hughman

Not a fan of the “O-tay, Panky” hairdo.

      • DeborahJozayt

He’s one of Aldo Raine’s special team of soldiers, out to get dem Nazis.

    • foodycatAlicia

I hate button-down collars but he is adorable.

    • snarkykitten

butt. hair. he has butt hair.

      • irinaslutsky

i think a side part would prevent that but still look almost as pointedly style specific

      • calbear97

My husband had this hair as a high schooler. His brothers called him “bread head”

    • EdithP

I’m not sure about this haircut he’s sporting, but he is adorable. Kudos! By the way, has everyone seen the Spock Vs. Spock Audi commercial?

      • Sara L.

LOVE that commercial. I laughed for a long time when Nimoy busted out with his “Bilbo Baggins” song.

      • GorgeousThings

        That is THE. BEST. COMMERCIAL!
The only thing that could make it better is if Pine and Shatner were the ones who climbed out of the ERL.

        • EdithP

          Love your avatar!

    • bookish

*Love* the color in the second set, don’t care for the hair. Thanks for giving us Zachary Quinto at the end of a Friday!

    • MajorBedhead

Oh, that hair in the second look is dreadful. Suit, however, is gorgeous.

    • musicandmochi

Is it wrong of me to instantly think, “Oh my Lord, ADULTERY!” when I saw the blue & green outfit?

    • Zaftiguana

Love the first look, cannot sign off on the second. The hair is reading more 1997 teen heartthrob than Boardwalk Empire to my eyes, the suit is a wrinkled mess (love the color, though) and the shirt and styling are off.

      • RebeccaKW

I agree, I was thinking that hair was last seen on the original 90210.

    • nannypoo

I don’t like the bumpit hair on anyone, so it’s not really his fault. But his hair in the second look is even worse. He is super handsome, though, and I like both outfits, so I’ll get past it.

I always notice eyebrows. He has great eyebrows.

      • raininmai

        Yes, his eyebrows are spectacular.

      • Sara Leigh Merrey

Bumpit. I was trying to remember what that hair was. I don’t like it on anyone either, but especially men. Is that sexist of me? I don’t care. The first look is fine, but made me think of Pee Wee Herman. I do like everything about the second look, even the hair.

    • MilaXX

I was wondering how that second look would hold up in stills. It was sort of an inmate-at-the-asylum/Alfafa cut, but it worked. I thought he looked adorkably cute on Fallon.

    • annabelle archer

I full on appreciate all the effort he puts forth with great thought and consistency. That said, he does absolutely nothing for me and since I have no idea of his personality, his looks leave me unimpressed and cold.

      • fursa_saida

Judging from interviews, he’s very sweet and thoughtful. He and Chris Pine have a vocabulary war going where they’re trying to outdo each other in terms of who can use more big words in an interview. (Quinto really impressed me when he used “propinquity.”) It seems like Quinto usually wins; I’ve seen loads of gifs of him zinging off word after word and Chris Pine sitting there with his “oh, god fucking dammit” face on.

          • fursa_saida

It’s sickening how cute it is. Rude, honestly.

    • filmcricket

Wrinkles & awkward hair aside, I LURVE the second look. The first one … I don’t like the shirt. I don’t know what I’d put in its place, but it’s not working for me.

I wish he and JGroff would walk red carpets together, they are the cutest.

    • Matt Bailer

Clearly we are to deduce from the blue/green combo that he is currently engaging in some mad, stylish adultery. T-Lo has trained me well.

    • ZnSD

Color’s great. I loathe the buttoned up/no belt look though.

    • Dhammadina

Caterpillar eyebrows and caterpillar hair forest.

    • thecitysleeps

He looks really good. I prefer the first outfit just because that choice of shirt is my fave thing ever!

    • random_poster

I don’t think unshaven looks good on him. Love that second suit.

      • alyce1213

He’s too swarthy for it. He needs a clean face.

        • sisterb67

The other problem is that the Boardwalk Empire hair with the buzzed underlayer is almost the exact same length as his perfectly groomed stubble, so it looks like the GI Joe fuzz hair/beard from the old school action figures. Or Monchichi fur.

    • JanieS

Boardwalk Empire is too generous. That hair is straight-up Boo Radley.

    • littlemissstrange

Thank you for that delicious double shot, TLo, I needed it like you would not believe.

Boardwalk Empire hair is fucking SEXY, I don’t care what all y’all say.

    • formerlyAnon

Prefer the 2nd look. The color and the hair. (Yes, the hair’s a bit goofy, but I think it’s more flattering than the bumped up cliff above his forehead. It’s not like he needs the illusion of another inch of height, for goshsake.)

    • Judy_S

Boy, does he look good in both of these. The hair is weird (I almost like the part better than the pompadour) but in a calculated way that to my mind works very well.

    • MartyBellerMask

Wow, my daughter’s BFF and his daddy look just like this guy. I never noticed it before.

    • Ron Labhart

The only problem I have with the first look is that the proportions on the jacket are wrong. It’s just a little too short, I think, but the real problem is the placement of the button. To my eye, it should be at least 2-3″ lower.

    • jw_ny

I much prefer the boardwalk empire hair, and Zachary should smile more often…so pinched faced in the 1st set of shots.

    • quiltrx

Again, I notice that he has terrific taste in shoes. I love his ‘stern’ look…but I’m seeing that the smile is pretty adorable! He should use it more often.
And I’ve realized something today, on Sausage Friday…the only thing I don’t like about the ‘very fitted’ jacket trend is that they’re sometimes too short to my eye. Of course I know pretty much anything is going to look short on Zach here.

    • Bridget Smith

I knew a guy in high school who would always choose pink shirts for dress events, because he thought it was cool to defy expectations. He was sort of right, but oh man was baby pink NOT his color. Dark brown hair, bright blue eyes, tan: we’d BEG him to go for the blue shirt, and then he’d always show up in pink.

Which is to say: I love the green suit + navy blue shirt, plus it suits him terrifically.

    • Catherine Katz

Look at that last shot with the label clearly visible. Ca-ching! And I love the second look (minus the hair…)

    • SewingSiren

Super cute in the green suit.

    • ankali

HAAAAAAATE the proportions of the first jacket. I don’t think that it’s just that it’s too small on him. The button is placed too high, and the hem is too short relative to the rest of it for me, even on the model.

The hair in the second look is an abomination unto the Lord. I assume the cut is for a role, but maybe we should make a copy for him of that sign we were going to give Dan Stevens.

    • PastryGoddess

I can’t with that second Hairdo.

But the rest is fab. Speaking of which did anyone else see the commercial with him and Leonard Nimoy?

    • H2olovngrl

He needs to play Morrissey in a movie about The Smiths.

    • Manon Eileen

He looks great, but that hair just made me laugh out loud – that’s not Boardwalk Empire hair, that’s 90’s boy band hair.

    • Contralto

That green is fantastic. The hair is hilarious.

    • MRC210

Don’t like the hair in either look. The pompadour is a little too Zippy the Pinhead. Otherwise, perfect.

    • judybrowni

      He’s cuter as Spock.

    • Hetha Innis

Yes, I’d love to see more color in suit choices and more bow ties. I liked the first look better on the model and I realized it’s the tie that was drawing my eye in. Why don’t guys wear bow ties more often?

      • BKagainwiththesweatpants

Because bow ties are only for Doctor Who and maybe Alan Cumming.

    • Citagaze

I CAN NOT see that second look as anything but “The Bow Tie Killer” from the first Problem Child movie.

    • MissusBee

Cute! Although in both it’s like the perfectatron stopped at his temples and left everything north to be randomised by the universe.

    • minnye

Love those wacky hairdos. He always makes me smile. I think I’m a sucker for those soft brown eyes. His guy is one lucky laddie.

    • pattycap11

boldly go, zach, with your bad self. love these looks.

    • imakeart

I disagree on the hair – don’t like either at all. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen him smile, and he’s much more handsome than he is with the tightly closed mouth.

    • siriuslover

He looks great in that green suit. But even with the Frankenstein arms in the first pic, he’s rockin’ it. Have you guys seen the Audi commercial with him and Leonard Nimoy? Totally adorkable. Search for it on youtube!

      • littlemissstrange

ZQ is so cheesy in it but Nimoy is ADORABLE, I love him singing the hobbit song.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I actually kind of love the crazy Boardwalk Empire hair on him. He doesn’t look like he’s trying so hard.

    • guest2visits

Just love this guy’s face; can’t escape those massive (fabulous) eyebrows, either.
The green suit is fine with me – but I think the blue one needed something other than the blue shirt he paired with it.

    • Angelo

HATING the chambray shirt with that suit. Also, a middle part is no man’s friend.

    • DollyMadisonWI

      He’s so quirky. Love.

    • marlie

I love him. He’s so adorable. And he’s starting to figure out what works for him. He clearly needs to stick with this designer.

    • librarygrrl64

Not loving what looks like a casual denim/chambray shirt with the first look. LOVE that green suit/blue shirt combo, though!!!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

He has begun to look so much like the first boy who ever proposed to me that I can’t even properly enjoy his hotness anymore.

The mid-90’s Wonderbread-hair is just odd.

    • Nikki

What about a belt?!?! I was always taught (as a young woman too) that when there are belt loops, one must wear a belt. I may be old fashioned, but I think the second look is screaming for a belt. I also just think a belt is nice to punctuate things.
