YEA or NAY: Kotur Fall 2013 Clutches

Posted on May 10, 2013

Darlings, it’s all boys, dresses, and purses around here today. Like our own little slumber party. Pillow fights and singing into hairbrushes are on the agenda for later in the day.

But for now, let’s talk teeny-tiny little clutches.

Cute, yes?

What we’re asking is…

Kouture Fall 2013 Clutches: YEA or NAY?

But before you get swept up by all the shininess, like a bunch of bitchy magpies, remember to apply the tampon+cellphone test, darlings.

Yea but they seem kind of all over the map and some of them look a little crafty.

  • TheAmericaness

Very Gatsby I see. Art Deco. The moustache one looks too molestery, but other than that, they are kinda cool. Too varied for me to say Yay or Nay on the whole collection.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

These are all from the same collection?

    • Lesley

i was thinking the same exact thing!

  • I love the two square Art Deco ones, and I’m too old to care about tampons, but cellphone plus driver’s licence is a motherfuckin minimum.

  • well, i unabashedly say LUV HUH

  • Claudia Fernandes

  • lehen

    that mustache one is horrible.

  • gabbilevy

  • TheLaurenJean

I love them! Except the mustache one.

  • MilaXX

Except for the mustache one, I like. One of each please. YAY !

  • hughman

They are perfect for Dada Barbie.

  • Wow, those are fairly diverse in style. That being the case, I like some more than others, but I like the lot as whole. Some of them feel a little like you’d find them at Hot Topics or Claire’s, so I hope they don’t cost as much as my car payment.

  • YEA! Save for the mustache clutch which is just a big ol’ NAY.

  • LJCdoc

I want the vast majority of them.

  • I love all of these, except for the one with the mustache. That one is just creepy. I think my favorite is the one with the mother-of-pearl, 5th from the bottom.

    That’s a “YEA!”

  • judybrowni

I work near at an amusement park, where apparently mustaches like that are prizes.

So, if I didn’t hate clutches (which I do) and especially teeny tiny clutches that hold nothing, I could win a ring toss and glue one to a Claire’s and voila! FASHION!

  • momogus

YEA! Love the art deco-y ones especially.

  • I may have to turn in my girl card, but I don’t get clutches. They’re too small to be useful and you have to hold them constantly.

    • It’s the holding them constantly that kills me. I need one hand for champagne and one for canapes, I’m not going to cling to a purse all night!

  • random_poster

Yea, but that mustache one needs to be burned.

    • jetpackdino

      Shaved at the very least.

  • Nay. I can buy them at the local mall’s Claire’s Boutique.

  • Cute but I need a big clutch !

  • YAY! Finally a clutch collection I can get behind. I want one of each! I like the diversity of the collection and how they have different styles from art deco to 80’s punk. Brilliant.

  • crash1212

How could a teeny tiny (dare I say silly) little clutched item – with a hairy mustache – be anything other than a YAY?

  • Love all but the clever ones, but in my head they are large enough to actually clutch.

  • Tapetum

Yea! I love these, and I don’t even use clutches!

  • jetpackdino

Except for the mustache one, lol. Points for originality and humor, but I still wouldn’t touch it. I draw the line at fashion that mimics body hair. No knowing where that path might lead.

  • Lori

Nay, at least as clutches, although as attractive objects they’re a yay. If I tried to use one of these as an actual clutch I’d set it down and lose it within 10 minutes of leaving the house, never mind that they would hold nothing.

  • Vanja

I want to see them in someone’s hand or next to a ruler, so I can tell their actual size. I like the green one and the black/gold Art Deco one.

  • Tatiana Luján

I love all of the art decó ones, but there are some that look very cheap.
And the moustace isn’t even funny.

  • Anathema_Device

Yes! I especially love the deco ones. You can keep the mustache one, though. The only clunker IMO.

  • BrooklynBomber

Eh. Some are good. Many are eh.

  • mightbewrong

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t get the mustache thing, because that one clutch just grosses me out. At least ‘ceci n’est pas un sac’ is cute.

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

The shape is great. The… texture (?) is not.

      • mightbewrong

The motif in general has always been kinda ugly to me, but that’s just personal taste. The texture definitely tips it over the edge though!

  • Kenisha Hill Phillips

  • YEA YEA YEA! I want them all!

  • Love the “Ceci n’est pas un sac.” As an Art History major, I must have it.

  • I love a few of them, the black and gold and the orange striped mainly. I can just fold my money into teeny squares and put my cellphone betwixt my bosoms.

  • YEA! I want all but the one with the hormone imbalance.

  • OrigamiRose

IN, I’d like all of them save the mustache and the eye.

  • RebeccaKW

I like the idea of them-for the right event, some would be great. The mustache one is odd. I am just over the mustache craze altogether.

  • PastryGoddess

    shiny pretty clutches

  • nelybel

  • Tracy_Flick

YEA! Except for the moustache one – excessively pubic-haired.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The art deco ones (especially #5) make me tingly, the rest are meh.

  • But is the first one of the Art Deco ones (5th down) damaged? Or is that deliberate?

  • Joeyanna

I live in Brooklyn, and the whole mustache thing has been a really bad cliche at flea markets, arts and crafts booths, and small neighborhood boutiques. It’s the new “put a bird on it.”

I’m going to design something with a mustache on a bird on a bike on a tote bag.

  • LOVE ALL OF IT. So much art history inspiration, I squeed a little.

  • yis

  • YEA. All I need to know is where I can buy the “ceci n’est pas un sac” one.

  • prettybigkitty

No to hairy fingers, hairy toes, hairy backs and hairy clutches.

  • MartyBellerMask

  • barbarienne

Yea in general, though there is a WIDE range going on here. The only through-line I see is the size/dimension (though even there, the black-and-silver deco bag is breaking the pattern).

I am a mad fan of Magritte, so they captured me with “ceci n’est pas un sac.”

My faves are #1 (metallic red), #11 (black w/ purple spikes), #12 (looks like druzy quartz!), #20 (mother of pearl inlay) and #21 (blue crocagator).

The rest aren’t to my taste, and cover a broad range of reasons, from “how very old lady” to “too young and funky for me”; thus highlighting how little cohesion this collection has.

  • Anne StJean

  • So cute! Except for the mustache one. Face it, once Justice started carrying mustache jewelry, the trend officially attained grandma status.

  • On reflection, I think I like my clutches a little crafty. Not my purses, but that tiny thing for a night on the town.

  • All the Deco ones please, and most of the rest are also keepers.

  • IAmJ

For the most part, YEA. Very cute, except for the mustache one, which is UGH.

  • Louise Bryan

Nay. Pointless purses that are no more than jewelry, except not actually attached, thus more likely to get in the way or lost.

  • Carrieanno

Nay. The ‘stache killed it for me.

  • destronomics

    I wish these were flasks.

  • MGMcD

Yea. I want them all. Even the hairy one.

  • YAY. Minus the ‘stache one.

    • EdithP

I will be so glad when this whole mustache thing is over with.

  • Guest

Yay — on the condition that none cost more than $25, and $7.50 if they’re at Target.

  • RedRaven617

For the most part I would say “Yea”, but it is really hard to judge the true dimensions. Any one know them? And I agree, the mustache one looks a little pervy.

  • it just makes me think that there will be short black hairs stuck to my palms since i’d have to hold it all night long.

  • unbornfawn

I see stylists gobbling these up for their ladystars.

  • StelledelMare

Definitely yea. They all have visual interest but still can be simple or more edgey. I especially love the art deco looking ones. But the mustache one is a big nay.

  • The yeas outweigh the nays

  • MoHub

    Love the Magritte.

  • frannyprof

Cute. Big enough to hold a ladystar’s meds.

  • demidaemon

I think all of these are a YEA, except for that moustache one, which is stupid.

  • Hasn’t all of this been done already?

  • phrenk

Some of these are really pretty. Some of these are really ugly. I abstain.

  • Airkisses

    Pinterest Clutches

  • LaSylphide

I don’t own anything small enough to fit in any of them, but they are cute. Yea for loos, Nay for usefulness.

    • conniemd

Agree with this. But I’d say yea because they are cute.

  • VioletFem

YEAH, especially 2 and 3 from the top and the clutch with the eye. These clutches are fun but still sophisticated looking. Except for the mustache one, that’s just a little too precious even for me.

  • i like them all but the first one, if the mustache one did not have the hair it would be awesome, and im 9.

  • Flora O

There are some duds, but overall YEA. Particularly numbers 2 (Ceci n’est pas us sac!) for the art gallery opening, 19 for the supper club with Nick Charles, and 20 for my wedding day.

  • MandyM

Cool! I love 12th from the top.

  • quiltrx

Yea, mostly because the Deco ones are so fabulous that I can’t even see the goofier ones.

  • YAY! I mean, not all of them, but the Magriite and deco ones are gorgeous. I can get a minion to carry my tampons.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

    no. too silly,

  • formerlyAnon

Yea! Not all of them, but more than half.

  • I love the art deco-y ones. Unfortunately, they make the rest of the collection look cheap and juvenile by comparison as if some plastic crap for the junior high crowd got mixed in with a set of vintage evening clutches.

  • ankali

YEA. I hate the moustache, and don’t feel one way or the other about most of the leather ones. However, I absolutely ADORE the first take on the Magritte (sans moustache), the one with the mother-of-pearl inlays that look like Tiffany glass, the black-and-silver deco numbers, and the very first rosy metallic one.

No room for the smart phone would be a problem, though.

  • silaria

Yea! They remind me of antique perfume bottles, all tiny and ornate and perfect.

  • kaycem

  • YAY! I think these are awesome.

  • Jonquil

The Rene Margitte clutches are very out of place. And I’m not sure how I feel about such literal use of a painter’s work…

  • NiseiShonagon

NO NO NO to the moustache one. I don’t know why they’re the favorite ironic kitsch element of the moment but I want that moment to end. Also, if a designer wants to knock off/pay homage to Magritte, they’d better be a little more creative than that.

I’d love that black-and-white one, even though I’d undoubtedly end up dropping it on the floor at least once a night.

  • CommentsByKatie

The snakeskin ones are boring, but I love the Art Deco ones, and the pop art / crafty ones are fun, too. A very eclectic collection.

  • Yay! Except for the moustache-clutch. It needs to be burned.

  • luluransom

Some yea, many nay, but I sure wish I had a reason to carry a teeny tiny ode to Magritte.
Alas, ceci n’est pas ma vie.

  • ballerinawithagun

Project Runway sent them to each section of the museum and told them to design a clutch.

  • GorgeousThings

I think I’d rather save my pennies and buy an Alexander McQueen clutch.

  • carnush

I like the Magritte ones, the art deco and the mother of pearl. Not so much the snakeskin.

  • Yea. Their collections tend not to be cohesive but who said that a collection of accessories has to be? Also, their clutches are always super well made.

  • lilazander

Yea in general! I most like the classic leather ones (like no.1) and also (but less) the metal (?) angled ones. I am far from having classic style, but they are just so simple and beautiful And basically, clutches are always a YEA!

  • librarygrrl64

I really like the Deco-inspired ones, but is the picture frame on the second one unintentionally crooked, or is it just me? For that price, I’d expect at least a correctly-placed graphic. :-/

  • maggiemaybe

I’ll take one of each please. LOVE THEM!

  • Yes to all…except that hiddy mustache clutch. People…please. Can we declare the death of the mustache??!

  • Wow. Some of them are STUNNING!

  • Lattis

To me clutches are the most useless of the useless. Something that I lose – like, sadly, sunglasses. If I can’t wear it around my neck, around my waist, or at least cross-body, I have no use for it.

But that mustache clutch has wormed its way into my heart.

  • watchmeboogie

A lot of them are so cute! But clutches are too impractical.

  • Contralto

at least one of those tests no longer applies to me, so I say YEA! to at least 2/3

  • shelley514

Oh great. A purse so tiny that I can put it down somewhere and forget about it. Good idea.
