Winona Ryder in Rochas on ‘Jimmy Fallon’

Posted on May 01, 2013

Lots of black on the site today. What’s that all about? We’ll tell you something; when we look over the selections of red carpetry each morning, it’s been striking how much black we’re seeing at the height of spring. Silly stylists and their little trends.

Winona Ryder makes an appearance on the ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ show in a Rochas black metallic tiered lace dress.

Rochas Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Julia Shvets (NATHALIE)

Still, we kind of like this. It’s flirty and cute. Of course it looks a little like it’s made out of those plastic party leis you buy for backyard luaus, but what are you gonna do? It least it doesn’t look funereal or too heavy. A pop of color in the shoe is turning into a cliche, but it would have been nice to see here.

But WHAT the HELL is going on with that crunchy-looking crazy hair?

I always want to give her a hug. I think she looks cute and I get what she was trying to do with the hair and generally can sign off on the style and shape…just the crunchiness needed to be toned down a bit.

I agree- just like I have unjustified hate for so many starlets- I have weird unjustified love for Miss Ryder… maybe it’s a generation thing that goes back to Beatlejuice & Heathers- but I’ve always found her both stunning and an excellent actress. Feel like she got swept under by a scandal that seems so silly by comparison to some of these other ‘actresses’

      • Little_Olive

        Unjustified love here as well.

And is that Stephen Fry in your picture? <3

        • Not applicable

yes- he cracks me up- this face alone.

  • teensmom99

I think she and her hair look amazing. I also think that this is the kind of weather that makes you lean on black. It’s been coldish and it’s hard to wear super-spring colors in this weather. On the other hand, it seems crazy to wear fall-like colors (which is the color of many of my clothes that are suitable for weather in the 50s and 60s). And so we default to black. Of course I’m no stylist and if I had navy I’d wear that . . .

Jesus honey, relax. She looks like a poodle. A permanently surprised poodle.

    • Patricia Gillett

The surprised part is her surgeon’s fault.

    • 3boysful

Anyone else think she now looks like the actress Jessica Walter (who is a couple of decades her senior)?

  • hughman

She’s serving major Julia Roberts realness in that last pic.

    • Little_Olive

      Is there such a thing?

  • Delaney Davis

Why so much black? They’re all Doctor Who fans who aren’t getting their TLo Doctor fix ;)

  • LauraWL

I am guessing that its because all the f/w 2013 shows in February are filtering down via the stylists to the starlets? (Is it sad that I know that…)

  • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

    I hate Botox.

  • Jangle57

I assumed TLo isn’t feeling the Clara vibe; it happens. As for Winona, my first thought was, WTF is going on with her hair?????? It matches the ruffles of her dress too much. With a dress that busy, simpler would be better.

  • everest19

“What did you do to get this role? Did you SUCK his COCK?”

    Iconic.

    • MK03

She made that weird-ass movie even weirder.

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

She’s channeling Lydia Deetz. I like it.

    • Rand Ortega

Yay! Me, too! I’m still hoping for a ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel where adult Lydia has to deal w/ sending her crazy now dead dad & step mom to the other side.

I love her and I think she is rocking that dress.
Now, to the important matters, will this woman ever age?

  • blueberrypanckae

black dress or not, her stylist should be given an award for choosing something that looks good standing AND sitting! This is a hard concept, as we all know, for stylists! cute all around!

  • Pants_are_a_must

She looks a bit manic, but she is mid-press tour for I’m not exactly sure what. The dress choice is pretty fab for late night interview purposes. The hair is yogatastic in the extreme.

    • blueberrypanckae

the crazy eyes are part of her charm !

  • MK03

Did they style her hair with a weed whacker?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kim-Elmore/1308422874 Kim Elmore

No. What the FUCK happened to her face???

    • Coco Cornejo

Oh my gosh, I thought she was Tina Fey!

      • carpediva

I saw that first profile shot and thought Julia Louis Dreyfus was having a bad hair day.

  • sado

    She looks great

  • formerlyAnon

She’s looking cute.* Hair is weird, but I don’t actually dislike it, as I do the dress.

*”cute” considering that I think she’d be prettier if she’d aged more naturally. She had a very interesting face for a pretty girl and I am not sure she can get there from here, anymore.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I sortof love her crunchy hair. It goes with the hold 80′s vibe.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

She looks cute, though the plastic party lei thing is dead-on. The hair for some reason is making me think of Julia Louis-Dreyfus via Helena Bonham Carter. Not great, but not terrible for Winona’s general persona. Spooky used to be her thing before Helena took over that role with Tim Burton.
Now I want to rewatch Beetlejuice and Heathers.

  • anonymous

Winona looks amazing in a weird but adorable way..she looks happy and I’m happy when she’s happy..Gob bless you..

  • MilaXX

I thought she looked cute last night watching the show, but in stills it doesn’t looks as great. I’m chalking this up to not photographing well.

  • prettybigkitty

She and Tina Fey should play sisters in a movie.

  • http://twitter.com/TVcastingcall Reality TV Casting

oh my god that hair is cracktastic. she looks homeless. who thought that would be okay?!?!

  • procrastinatrice

Actually, I love the hair. The whole look is cute, youthful, classy.

  • bd73

love it. winona ryder is, was and ever-shall-be the prettiest with the best build. she’s make 40-something look awesome.

  • PrunellaV

Two white streaks and she’d pass as the Bride of Frankenstein.

    • formerlyAnon

On a kick back, cocktails on the deck sort of day.

  • pepper76

When has Winona not worn black?

  • Contralto

    I think she looks adorable.

  • ankali

Really like the dress, but dear sweet baby Jesus, what has she done to her lovely, lovely face?

  • VicD

I’m getting a mutton dressed as lamb vibe here – and the hair really doesn’t help that.

    • teensmom99

I think it’s mutton as lamb since the dress and hair are very youthful (even if it’s not the look of today’s youth)–but I think she pulls it off well. Kind of helps that she is petite.

    • hac51

Yes. She’s cute, but this is a dress (maybe in a color) for Kiernan Shipka or Chloe Moretz.

  • lrober03

Has she aged at all since Heathers?

  • BigGirlDownNow

She’s so fragile, I just want to tell her that being in one’s 40s it’s okay to feel ‘grounded’ and ‘rooted’ to the world. It’s hard to believe she made it through break ups with Johnny Depp, that guy with the frizzy hair Dave Something from that band in the 1990s, and on and on.

  • kathrineb

hair is fug and im not loving the dress.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

In the picture of her walking in she seems to have stolen Alyssa Milano’s face.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

    Damn, she has aged well.

  • Melanie

She does not look like herself at all.

  • lobsterlen

Winona looks great. I am happy for her. That little blip derailed her career. Compare that to what goes on now and they don’t even act ashamed.

  • carnush

I’m not into the crunchy looking crazy hair. It totally doesn’t go with the outfit. A basic blowout would be so much classier.

  • Rand Ortega

It’s all very Audrey Hepburn circa the late 1970′s & films like “Bloodline”.

  • Rand Ortega

What project is she pole-dancing for? Anybody know?

  • Little_Olive

The (terrible, terrible) hair weirdly resembles the dress; everything is curly and messy. Kudos for picking out something ladylike, though.

Having said that, I love her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

I’m just happy to see her. Without her, my whole life is darkroom. One. Big. Dark. Room.

  • OrigamiRose

So glad to see her back. And she looks like she has barely aged a day since The Age of Innocence.

  • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

The hair is making me sad.

  • Candigirl1968

That’s straight from the gym and decided to grab groceries hair.
Cute dress, although a bit froofy for a talk show.

  • tereliz

Eee. Um. Her face looks nice.

  • Spicytomato1

Her dress looks like something Elizabeth McGovern would wear. Which makes me think how great it would be if Winona could re-invent herself with an obscure Masterpiece project.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=713709401 Randy Noak

She actually looks amazingly young. I wonder who her doctor is.

  • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

She is Spock’s mother. She can do no wrong. Ever.

  • YayaGurl

She reminds me of people I saw at my high school reunion who had sort of peaked in high school, maybe college, and never really moved on. I’m so happy that I am not growing older in the public eye. Dress is cute as hell though.

  • ccm800

crazy hair for crazy face! come on!
