Solange Knowles in Roberto Cavalli

Posted on May 22, 2013

Girl, no.

Solange Knowles attends the Belveder Party in Cannes, France in a Roberto Cavalli printed silk blazer and trousers paired with a Vionnet clutch.

Even you can’t make this work.

We’re a little disappointed because we think a smart fashionista would know to pair that super cool jacket with something else. Pairing it with the matching pants (which are kinda hiddy) and the matchy purse smacks more of “fashion victim” than fashionista. Tsk. You know better. We’ll chalk it up to jet lag. Or contractual obligations.

    crotch wrinkles.

  • Introspective

cackled when I saw TLo’s opening greeting of “girl, no.” then I scrolled down, shuddered at those senseless pants and realized there was nothing else to say but that.

  • Griffinqueen

Is there heart shaped orchid placed oh-so-delicately on her ladybits? Please, Bitty Kittys, catch me, for I swoon.

  • MilaXX

Those pants need to stay on the runway. Solange should have paired them with a pair of black skinny pants

    • boldprint

My thoughts exactly! The top half is fabulous.

  • Clueless_Jock

    Not anyone’s pants.

  • Janet B

She can keep the jacket, the pants are odd and the shirt is oddly boring.

    • demidaemon

And weirdly unflattering the way it is tucked into her waistband.

    • ConnieBV

Black cigarette pants would have killed this.

  • lexilexi

I would love it if she would try a little bang thing… her forward is ample… just for fun.

  • Le_Sigh

For some reason I saw Nathan Lane’s character in the Birdcage rocking the pants.

Oh Solange – all you needed was a chic skinny black pant.

    • RebeccaKW

      Those ARE his pants!

As much as I liked that role, if your wardrobe choices are calling to mind Nathan Lane’s lady man-pants, then you have taken a wrong turn.

      • Starina will wear the pants, and Starina will not disappoint. Now, let’s sprinkle fairy dust and have some schneken.

        • Denise Alden

          Agador, my pirin tablets, please!

          • He can’t chew gum while I’m singing!!

          • sugarkane105

            Gum helps me think.

            Sweetie, you’re wasting your gum.

          • Le_Sigh

I cannot wear shoes, they make me fall down.

        • sugarkane105

          When the schneken beckons!

  • Cathy S

I love the jacket. Those pants are horrific. A serious case of scroll down fug.

  • zenobar

Yeah but the clutch. Such a pretty pretty clutch.

    • filmcricket

      Right? I covet it.

    • Vanja

The clutch is gorgeous and I love the colour and shape of it.

  • Different pants, and she’d be on fire here.

  • decormaven

Mommy, hold me. Those pants, a travesty.

  • SewingSiren

    Excellent lady pants.

  • Keep the top, the makeup and the clutch and pair it with black skinny pants and fab shoes and this would be excellent. But the pajama pants–no, no, no!

  • sagecreek

I didn’t think there was anything she couldn’t pull off.

    I wuz wrong.

  • Love the idea, but not the reality.

  • PastryGoddess

Grrr I was so looking forward to scrolldown FAB and got those pants instead.

  • aeb1986

VIP Room. Cannes. How much more elite sounding does it get?

  • Anniebet

Good grief. That gave me a fright. And I’m wishing she’d change up her hair and makeup once in a while.

  • Literally up the ying yang!

  • Tatiana Luján

I love the look on the runway. On Solange, the pants aren’t working with the jacket.
But I thing she could choose either pants or jacket and pair it with something else and would rock.
    Love the clutch.

  • crash1212

Scroll down fug for sure. Love that clutch with it…actually love everything going on except those butt-ugly pants.

  • alyce1213

Absolutely agree. I picture a pair of fine, slim black pants and it would great.
Also, I’d have liked her natural hair (which I adore) pulled back because the jacket is so wowee.

  • Kikishua

LOVE the fabric. Don’t like it’s behaviour.

  • quiltrx

Seeing the thumbnail and the “girl, no”–I thought “why??? this appears to be a gorgeous jacket!” Then I opened the post. OH. I SEE.
I still want the jacket to be my friend and go on outings with me, but the rest is just sad/bad. And judging from her cooter origami, she did NOT ride in The Fashion Popemobile to the event.

  • Buffy

yeah, the pieces would have been so much better paired with other things. Hate that purse

  • IAmJ

Agreed. Since we’re scrapping this whole look, I’ll have the clutch, please.

  • TheAmericaness

I thought the nail polish was pretty. All I got.

  • Elleachaudaucul

Clearly a reference to the 1930s silk lounging pyjamas. I say IN, and Pulling. It. Off.

    • I agree. I’m surprised with the passes she usually gets, that more BKs don’t love what she’s going for.

  • DarkWillow

I kind of like it from the waist up – but it maybe needed to be black cigarette pants on the bottom. Or even mint green cigarette pants, or skinny jeans or something other than THOSE pants.

  • Just god awful!

  • Anathema_Device

I tried on a knock-off of this jacket (w/o that enhanced shoulder) at Zara yesterday. Kicking myself for not buying it.

I sort of agree that this is a whole lotta look, but I think the pants and jacket could work together, with a more subtle (lower-cut, relaxed) blouse, and the jacket buttoned.

  • MartyBellerMask

    Shorty shorts would’ve worked better.

  • amaranth16

I need this neon orange lipstick trend to be over.

  • frederieke

Ohhh I love the jacket, she just needs some plain black pants.

  • erinbinek

If those pants had been skinny, it would’ve been perfect.

  • conniemd

Love the 3rd pic showing the jacket and blouse and not the pants. Really beautiful. The bottom no. The runway model looks good as the pants are flowing and clinging to her legs. On Solange’s pictures they look like lounging pants with bell bottoms.

  • LaSylphide

She looks long-waisted and short-legged. Like a corgi. Which she isn’t. Either one.

  • Kiteway

“Oh it’s Solange love her…” *click*

“‘Girl no?’ Honestly it’s Solange I’m sure it can’t be —”

    WHY GIRL WHY :'(

*goes to Tilda Swinton post to rinse out brain*

    • demidaemon

  • Nicole Little

    waist up werq

  • Beverly Kozma

Solange looks fine, but that model’s scaring the piss out of me!

  • Contralto

I don’t understand. Why, Solange? Why?

  • kimiakay

Those are some of the strangest pants I’ve seen. The way the waist? comes up with that black strip around it looks unfinished and distracting. My eye immediately goes there. The model has another black strip, a belt through the loops that makes it better. The jacket doesn’t hang right I don’t think, are shoulder pads coming back? She’s worn them before, but boy these are obvious. I like the colors here, love the clutch. But those pants are doing her no favors.

  • kategs

Oh girl YES! She looks wonderful.

  • shegotgame

    She hired JLo’s stylists. Really!

  • Claudia

What is with her wearing that shade of lipstick?! It is NOT flattering. Or maybe its just me…

    • mmc2315

      It’s not just you.

  • unbornfawn

I can’t figure out why, but I’m irrationally liking her so much more than that other Knowles girl.

  • demidaemon

ICK. It’s like a giant, floral booger.

  • I love the jacket! This is a Scroll-down fug if I ever saw one.

  • julnyes

I actually like the pants (without the wrinkles of course) I think the problem is that all the pieces of this outfit deserve to be the center of attention. She should have worn one of these attention seeking pieces, not all of them.

  • tereliz

Good Lord, that jacket is so freaking beautiful but WHYGODDIDN’TSHEPAIRITWITHBLACKPANTSINSTEAD???!!!1!

  • librarygrrl64

YES! My first thought was, “keep the jacket and the FABULOUS clutch, lose the pants.” Ugh with the matchy-matchy pattern.

  • TooTrue2b

I like the pants (sans wrinkles). I think I’m alone in this. I’d have put her in a black tank with the jacket.
