Sarah Jessica Parker for Harper’s Bazaar Russia

SJP goes B&W.

Sarah Jessica Parker covers the June 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Russia in an Oscar de la Renta gown photographed by Simon Upton and styled by Juan Cebrian.

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Frida Gustavsson

Dolce&Gabbana Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Grace Hartzel

Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 Collection/Models: Maja Salamon (NEXT) and Jeneil Williams (IMG)

Vionnet Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Irina Kulikova (IMG)

Black and white’s not really her thing, is it? It should be, going by these pics, but we don’t seem to recall it being something she does very often. She’s way more about the prints and textiles and juxtapositions. But she might want to look into boldly simple looks like the above-featured. They really work well for her. Love her in the Oscar gown.

I know I sound like a broken record but can we PLEASE get some different eye make-up on this gal??? All that black liner makes her look like a raccoon.

  • Eileen Duffy

I desperately want that D&G dress! Would some kind person please buy it for me? :)

    • l_c_ann

Instead buy yourself a sewing machine, take a couple of sewing classes, make the dress, and take a great vacation with the money left over.

      • Sarah Adams

I’m with you. I haven’t sewn any clothes for myself since I was 18 (homeschooled, pioneer mom before it was cool) but I’m pretty sure I could make that D&G dress for myself almost without a pattern. Butterick and Simplicity probably have exactly that pattern on sale right now for summer dresses.

        • sagecreek

Same here, Sarah, but summer does make me want to drag out the machine…unsculpted and simple I’m pretty sure I can still do!

  • Jessica Freeman

I have loved that ODLR dress since it was on an Elle Fanning post (she wore a beautiful green chevron one, but TLo had the runway photo of this one). It’s in my “if I’m brave enough to try and copy and sew it” pile.

  • homofascist

Whew, they cranked up the Photoshop to 11, didn’t they?

For some reason I like the Vionnet, even thought it is sort of complicated. It gives her a lovely shape.

    • Knightley

And didn’t even bother to do a good job of it. Her hands in that third picture are just terribly awkward. It’s like they pasted the hands from a Barbie doll. Otherwise, the pictures are great, and I’ve never been a fan of SJP.

      • homofascist

Yes, that hand in the third pic is insane. And they are killer pictures.

  • aeb1986

the D&G gown is almost the same as the Oscar one…couldn’t they have found another B&W outfit? She looks really great though. and im so happy shes not in that checkered LV outfit

  • crash1212

Love me some black and white. Those two striped numbers are among my favorites. She looks great.

    • Mary229

I have been going crazy over all the black and white stripes that are in the stores this season but I always hesitate to buy them because I fear they will make me look heavy. But when I see them in pictorials…I adore them.

  • hughman

“And I asked myself, just because we’re in jail do we have to be prisoners to bad fashion? Can’t a Prison Suit suit a cocktail party as well? Because in the end, whether we’re behind bars or hitting the bars what we all want is to look fab. I could Sing-Sing the virtues of my D&G all day but when lights are out, all I know is I want to look my best. Isn’t that really what gets us The Rock in the end?”

  • gabbilevy

Theres something very Robin Wright about her face in that last photo.

This makeup and hair gets worse every time, doesn’t it?

  • Mary229

This is the best pictorial I’ve seen of her in a really, really long time. I love this.

  • clatie

I love every single thing about this – I’m SJP’s age and I LOVE it when someone looks chic and great and grown-up.

  • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Like all the outfits but the Vionnet, which I find kind of odd, but black and white does suits her. As for the Photoshop work, here’s a hint: when your subject’s skin begins to look like plastic, you’ve done too much Photoshop.

  • marlie

She looks great! I’m so glad the features the full length shot of that gown on the cover – I love it! Also, I’m really glad she’s not showing stomach in the Louis Vuitton outfit.

    • annabelle archer

Re the LV outfit – I thought the same thing. I bet you anything she told them hell no, who do you think I am, GOOP? That cover shot is fantastic.

  • flamingoNW

I’d love to see her on the red carpet in any of these.

  • Terri Smith

For the love of TLo, can we please give this girl some softer eye makeup? Some of these shots look like she actually doesn’t have eyes!

  • Dam_Angel

You would think fashion editors could get her to change up her hair

  • alyce1213

The clothes are stunning on her. My mantra for her is “haircut, haircut, haircut . . .”

    • Pixiequeen

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a nice below the chin bob? Hold the bangs.

  • gracedarling

I love the way they’ve reworked the D&G for her – it’s flattering on the runway, but spectacular in the editorial!

  • acevedob

TLo, I beg to differ. I think she looks amazing.

  • Gloriana Reginata

She’s so much more striking when she’s not dressing herself (the recent Met gala mohawk excepted).

  • carpediva

My only quibble: I’m just not sure freakishly photoshoppped mannequin hands go with any of these outfits.

    • kmk05

Since you’ve pointed them out I can’t unsee them. They are totally ridiculous :(

    • EveEve

the smooth Playtex glove Photoshopped hands were the first thing I noticed, given that her real hands are so…different from these.

  • unbornfawn

Agreed. She looks wonderful in these black and white, unfussy outfits.

  • LearnedFoot

THIS is the dress I wanted Anne H. to wear to the Oscars. The moment I saw pics from the de la Renta show, I hoped her stylist would grab it. Oh well…

  • conniemd

I love all the outfits. My fave is the Vionnet.

  • PeaceBang

    So much love this. Inspirational.

  • PrunellaV

The Photoshopping is terrible. She looks cross-eyed in every shot. Too bad, because the clothes look great.

  • Qitkat

This may seem like a strange thing to say, but I think as SJP ages, she will continue to look very striking. She has very strong bone structure, and although they don’t look anything alike, there are elements that remind me of Carmen Dell’Orefice, in her ability to project herself in glamourous clothing.

I really love her in all of these looks.

  •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She should really err on the side of simplicity more often. She looks great here.

    • MilaXX

agreed and the less fussy looks we’ve seen her wear lately look great on her

    • guest2visits

My thoughts! Simple and clean are working far better than a lot of the fussier, aging ensembles she gravitates to. I like the LV jacket and skirt best. Although her eyes are seconds away from emitting 1000 photon power death rays.

  • out for a walk

The photography for the cover shot strikes me as pretty bad – the angle she’s at means the skirt stripes are entirely vertical, and the lighting’s really flat. It looks like someone clipped out a photo of SJP and started making paper doll clothes for her.

  • Mona_Visa

In Soviet Russia, dress wear YOU.

  • Imasewsure

Love these and love them on her, even the fabulous tent she is wearing in the first pic…I must have that short dress… I must have it!!

  • Karen Dickerson

Hmmm…It looks like someone’s gone and pasted a new head on each body. Dear god, can we please Old Yeller whoever did this ghastly Photoshop job??

  • Jeff Warhurst

Carrie Bradshaw is off limits, lol. Seriously, the second look reminds me of the look she wore to Paris in Season 6.

  • GoAwayKardash

What’s wrong with a bit of jewelry? I miss jewelry.

  • LuisaNL

that Oscar de la Renta gown is to die for. She looks great!!

  • Aurumgirl

I love the D and G and the Oscar de la Renta. Going to take a little sketch of the D and G to the seamstress right now.

  • decormaven

These clean, unfussy looks are so much better for her! That Oscar gown is gorgeous.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

sort of obsessed with the Oscar gown.

  • Zorkness

I am not a big SJP fan, but she looks great here. Well played zebra…

  • Jessi03

I think she’s standing on a step stool on the cover. She looks fabulous, though.

  • lundibleu

You know what? She looks pretty great, but…

    – there’s too much photoshopping/airbrushing going on here.

    – I want to get a go around without the heavy eye makeup and with something different for the hair. Can’t help thinking that Louis Vuitton would’ve looked even more stunning with clearer makeup and a much sharper cut – maybe a very short bob.

  • Sunraya

Love the gown, hate her eye make-up.

  • sagecreek

She looks so much better when she simples it down.

  • Maryanne525

Oh…I actually really enjoyed this. I think she looks lovely, and that Oscar gown is absolutely stunning!

  • pop_top

I like these looks – though I hate that it looks like they photo-shopped her hand into her pocket on the cover because they were so determined remove any trace of wrinkles/veiny-ness.

  • AlinaValero

i am STILL obsessed with that oscar de la renta. literally haven’t gotten it out of my mind since i first saw it.

  • ballerinawithagun

Wow, I want them all and the black and white checked shoes!

  • Not applicable

love it. still wish she’d update the hair & make up tho… Just sayin’

  • librarygrrl64

That striped gown does wonders for her. :-)

  • Candice Booth

Her in the Vionetta is just so soft and beautiful as well as edgy at the same time.

  • kimiakay

These clothes, all of them, are flawless. It’s unusual for me to see an editorial where I like every style in every shot. The fact SJP is wearing them is irrelevant. The clothes speak for themselves.

  • Caterina Maria

She gets these so much more right than the models do. SJP, you done good.

  • marshmallowjane

I wonder if Sarah is standing on a foot stool underneath the first dress. Are her legs that long? I’m exaggerating a bit, but I don’t think this dress would look as good on the Red Carpet. It would no doubt be shortened a bit.

I prefer black and white with black hair, maybe blonde. Not brown.
