Sarah Jessica Parker in L’Agence at AOL Event

Posted on May 01, 2013

Sarah Jessica, we’re just gonna say it, because girl? You need to hear it.

Sarah Jessica Parker attends the AOL 2013 Digital Content NewFront in New York City in a L’Agence cap sleeve shift dress accessorized with a bejeweled statement necklace and Manolo Blahnik pumps.

L’Agence Cap Sleeve Shift Dress

When you keep things simple, ten years fall off your face, dear. We can’t put it any more plainly than that. The Carrie/NYC socialite drag is no longer your friend. Clean lines and simplicity should be your motto, darling. Granted, we know our Bitter Kittens, and some of them are going to say you look like you’re wearing an old-school nurse uniform, but don’t listen to them, hon. You look fabulous.   [Photo Credit: Getty, lagencefashion.com]

      So much better!!!

      • Kristin McNamara

Best she’s looked in I don’t even KNOW how long…

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Further proof that very often, pushing it really far is not your friend. She looks relaxed, comfortable, and lovely.

      • StellaZafella

I only WISH my old school nurse looked like this…brava SJP!

I wanna steal that necklace right off her…them’s good drag! :)

        • RebeccaKW

Slightly related to your comment re: the necklace. I attended a drag show about 10 years ago, and one of the queens complimented a ring I was wearing. BEST COMPLIMENT EVER.

        • drdarke

TLo beat me to it – but it still looks like a nurse’s uniform.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The hair ages her, too. Time for a new ‘do, SJP.

      • http://twitter.com/lolacestmoi Lola Channing

agree. All I can say is ‘woof’.

      • 3boysful

It does, but the mane looks better here for some reason. I think because for once she hasn’t used an entire kohl pencil around her eyes.

        • VeryClaire

She got rid of the harsh bleached blond. This is a much softer color and her face likes a softer color.

          • 3boysful

Oh, you are so right!! There are some (lots) new lowlights on top. HUGE improvement.

      • maretha2

I think it looks better here than it has in years. The color suits her better, and it’s smooth and soft and not in those artificial barrel curls or stick straight. I think she could try something other than a center part, though.

    • Flooolia

      Dat smile.

    • erinbinek

Not a fan. This makes her look bigger than she is. And, girl, what’s up with the hair??

    • http://twitter.com/marghardin23 Margaret Hardin

      She looks wonderful!!

    • jw_ny

SJP looks fantastic! She really does look younger here. hair and makeup are perfect. dress..eh, but works well with that big gaudy necklace.

    • Patricia Biswanger

Not loving that necklace with the dress though.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

The necklace is a bit gaudy. the look would have worked even better without it!

    • http://ICFashionChic.tumblr.com/ ICFashionChic

She does look better! She even looks like Sex and the City series days!

    • filmcricket

She’s also obviously gotten her hair done since we saw her last (like the colour, btw) and perhaps has had several naps and fruit smoothies since then?

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I like the hair, a lot. She’s never going to have a short do. Ever. So if she’s going to keep the length this is the way to do it.

        • sweetestsith

I’m not sure she should go shorter than this length, I think her hair really really suits her face at the medium length. Too long drags her face down, and I can’t imagine her looking good with a short do (even as a lover of short hair). However, I would really like to see a side part. Really, really, really.

Pretty color though, I am in love with it on her.

          • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I completely agree. Shorter would be…less than flattering. I know folks give her eyeliner grief, but I get it. Her eyes are going to be small regardless. Darkly rimmed really makes their color pop.

            • 3boysful

Yes, but as Very Claire pointed out the darker hair color to me, when there some contrast between the hair and the skin, you don’t need raccoon circles to define the eyes. She’s used less liner here, and her eyes do pop and look great.

          • j_anson

Yeah, absolutely, her face is way too long for short hair. She needs the length to balance it.

    • TheAmericaness

I was going to say that it reminds me the scientist lab coat she wore in Flight of the Navigator, but now I’m laughing remembering that she was in that.

She looks nice. I love the necklace.

      • Sara L.

        She was in that? Huh!

    • Cathy S

I really like the dress, but the necklace is just too much.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Better. Soft, relaxed, and with an air of effortless is a much more flattering approach.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

      I love this so hard.

    • Sobaika

She looks DIVINE. Pretty and effortless.

    • http://twitter.com/kawadjan kawadjan

      Hiding her hands!

      • Adriana_Paula

I know; this makes me sad. I know she doesn’t have hand-model hands (and never did) but it’s a shame that she gets so much shit for them that she feels she has to resort to this.

    • In_Stitches

I’m all ready to argue, but only because you called that look simple! She’s wearing a 10lb necklace and a dress with interesting, prominent seaming, produced in a very textured fabric. The jury is out on the shoes; I can’t get a clear reading on them when they blend into the carpet.

    • VeryClaire

The softer hair & make up is so much better for her.

    • Snailstsichr

She is just glowing. Love it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

Take your hands out of your pockets!!

    • Tatiana Luján

that dress is awsome, the shoes and hair are great.
      Now, the makeup…

    • http://frockpaperscissors.blogspot.com/ kvlm

So much better. *but* that dress does not need pockets.

    • GorgeousThings

      Best she’s looked in ages.

    • http://twitter.com/Forev45 Kristen

I couldn’t figure out which way you were going here, because I couldn’t ever call ombre highlights, a blowout, dime-sized diamonds, spider mascara, and a statement necklace, “simple.” It’s all relative, I suppose. As for looking younger, credit is probably due to Botox and other dermatological wonder drugs.

    • fringebenefit

      Agree, TLo. She looks divine.

    • tereliz

She looks ten pounds lighter without all that hair. Cute dress. Just lovely.

    • Yosa Addiss

Didn’t she just go way public with the fact that she can’t wear stiletto heels anymore? Ah, vanity. She does look great though!

      • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast janinedm

She can wear stilettos; she can’t wear cheap.

    • Pants_are_a_must

She is perhaps the only person who can make that ombre hair work.

I don’t like the dress, but it works for her.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      *applauds*

    • RebeccaKW

My first thought upon seeing these pics was how much younger she appeared. Softer hair, softer face. Looking good, SJP.

    • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast janinedm

As long as she continues with the Avril Lavigne raccoon eyes, I don’t see a difference.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Karen-Clark/1087334861 Karen Clark

Oh, for a minute I though you guys were going to hate it. Whew! She looks fab! Love a simple aesthetic.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Chic on a stick. Lovely in every way. Couldn’t agree more.

    • butterflysunita

She looks great. Love the dress on her.

    • stubbornthoughts

This is a WERQ for me. She looks effortlessly chic and cool. I want it ALLLLLL.

    • Trisha26

      Love the dress.

    • MilaXX

I like the dress and shoes, I don’t even mind the face. I think the necklace is a bit heavy for the dress, but otherwise I like this.

    • nannypoo

What a great dress. Beautiful lines. The shoes are a good choice and I can even live with the necklace.

    • Qitkat

Aww, why did you have to go and mention nurses? I liked it til I read that ;-)

    • Tracy_Flick

I hardly ever like anything she wears, and this looks great. If she would just tone down the eyeliner/spidery-mascara a bit, and maybe do something with her hair so it doesn’t look so fried, it would be perfect.

    • beebee10

      beautiful, sophisticated, YES, sjp! YES!

    • Isabel

Textile experts – is it raw silk?

    • Imasewsure

I thought this was great… and i thought TLo was going to berate her for it for some reason. Hope she listens to our dear uncles because I love this look on her

    • Anathema_Device

Love everything about this look. Doesn’t hurt that this is a case of “I would wear that.”

    • Sara__B

If she’d ditch the center part hair styles and the liner encircling her eyes, this would be nearly perfect.

    • Jarethee

Yes, she looks lovely, but the real question is this: AOL is still a thing? A Thing still in existence with money enough to throw events with celebrities? That’s my surprise of the day.

    • http://www.rebeccamckeownwrites.com/ Rebecca McKeown

She always looks years younger without bright-blonde hair. Not digging the dress, but her makeup looks great!

    • LauraWL

When you feel good it obviously shows. She obviously thought she had found the balance between kicky, fun and relaxed. FWIW she looks pretty damn good. WERQ. :-)

    • crash1212

She looks fabulous. I love that neck piece and the dress is fabulous! Well done!

    • teensmom99

Yes–no longer looking like a Nan Kempner wannabe.

    • LaSylphide

This is the first time I have ever like the way she looked. Even the makeup isn’t bad, for a change.

    • understateddiva

girl that is SO your dress

    • Dan_In_NYC

She looks fab, but I’m def on the “time for a new ‘do” bandwagon.

    • Hetha Innis

Totally! I was scrolling down thinking “what are they going to say that’s negative? she looks amazing!”… and you did not disappoint. Love this look and love her hair.

    • formerlyAnon

She looks so good that her hair almost looks right, here. I love this whole look. Being able to look this good makes the work I’m sure it takes all worth it.

    • Cynica

I love it. Now take your hands out of your pockets.

    • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

She looks great! But I think it’s that the lighting is more flattering.

    • sado

      She looks beautiful

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Why won’t she do something else with her hair? Even a little bit? Honestly.

    • prettybigkitty

      Pretty!

    • unbornfawn

Darling, LISTEN to your gay uncles!

    • http://www.facebook.com/ann.verwiebe Ann VerWiebe

I love this dress! I could actually wear it (and that’s almost never true).

    • BrooklynBomber

      Great look for her.

    • http://twitter.com/RaankyRaank Raanky

Light, breezy, and pretty. I love it! She looks great. And soooo RELAXED!

    • MK03

      Night and day.

    • ankali

Yeah, this is a WERQ for me. She looks chic, interesting, healthy, and comfortable.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

      NECKLACE LOVE.

    • lizajane1776

      She looks SO GOOD!

    • formerlyAnon

Late to think very many will see it, but this is a real question: it is described as “a bejeweled statement necklace.” That means high-end costume jewelry, yes? Or is it jewelry with real precious stones, described vaguely?

      • Qitkat

I can’t be of any help here, but my guess is that given the event, it means high-end costume jewelry. That would be a LOT of real bling for the non red carpet.

    • kathrineb

Yes minimal works so well for her. What a massive improvement! She looks fresh and modern!

    • alyce1213

I love the dress on her and the accessories. The hair’s much softer and sleeker, but i still say it needs about 5″ off the bottom. She doesn’t think so, but she’d look even younger and it’s better for the shape of her face.

    • bellafigura1

I love this look (and the shoes are lovely) but gawd GET A HAIRCUT.

    • MoHub

      Proof that less is more.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

She looks fresh and her age. The dress is certainly not near as bad as some of the recent atrocities.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

This is great. Best she’s looked in a LONG time!

    • Tuneful54

      Great haircolor job.

Don’t care for spaniel hairstyle or the white swimsuit cover-up, though.

    • geans

I love that dress. She looks beautiful.

    • Judy_S

She looks great here. the “bejeweled statement necklace” is adequate flummery.

    • MissAnnieRN

I absolutely love this dress!! I wish she would take her hands out of her pockets for posing though.

    • Victoria Anzalone

LOVE that dress, especially on her.

    • carnush

      AMEN. She looks fantastic.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

      Yeah she looks fab

    • Damien W

      She looks GREAT.

So what’s her deal with heels now? Does she wear them on the red carpet only, and then once the flashes stop, she chucks them and hops into a pair of fuzzy slippers?

    • BPlease

I love her look – the darker, simpler hair, the dress, the makeup — and I think the somewhat unusual choice of a beautiful, plain, brown suede non-platform shoe shows how much style SJP has. I have always loved that her choices never look like the result of a committee meeting. And she just looks great here, and pretty, and cool.

    • melissaisasnob

      She needs a hair cut.

    • xmixiex

she looks GREAT. the softer hair is so much better, and she looks super happy.

    • Not applicable

And blotting paper, please some blotting paper!

    • Zaftiguana

      Best she’s looked in fuhevuh.

    • Melizmatic

Agreed; this is the best she’s looked in ages.

    • guest2visits

Agree, a very good look for her. Usually have to brace for the overpowering onslaught of colors, textures, whacked materials in heaps….with too much of everything; this is BETTER.

    • H2olovngrl

She looks great, except…I wish she would tone down that make-up! It is so heavy and dark looking that she almost looks dirty.

    • ccm800

      agreed!

    • ballerinawithagun

How did she find my 7th grade sewing project in my mother’s basement??? Having said that I like it, maybe I need to make a new version!

    • http://twitter.com/JaniceMSmith joy peace

Nice! But I would take the hands out of the pockets. A+

    • lilazander

Damn, as the Bitter Kittens community member, I shall agree with you TLo and I say contrary to your prediction, she looks FAB.

    • librarygrrl64

      Agreed, gentlemen. :-)
