Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior

Posted on May 29, 2013

We are BEYOND bored with the trend this spring for black and/or white looks. But we have to say, sometimes someone comes along and nails it so perfectly that you can see why everyone else keeps trying to do it.

Marion Cotillard (pictured with Director James Gray and Jeremy Renner) attends the premiere of ‘The Immigrant’ during The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a Christian Dior gown accessorized with Chopard jewelry and Christian Dior pumps.

Gorge. We’re not even all that impressed with the dress. It’s just that she’s incredibly well suited to it. Oh, and the silver pointy-toed pumps make for a pretty fabulous bit of punctuation.

She looks amazingly ethereal. WERQ for me.

    • lobsterlen

      An ethereal WERQ!

    • Reality TV Casting

bump this should have been a WERQ

  • Introspective

that dress is milky white, parisian chic, tailored to a tee perfection. and the shoes?? FIERCE.

    luv this and luv huh.

  • sugarkane105

I LOVE shiny, silver shoes, and these are a great example. I so wish they would replace the nude platform peep-toes we see so often. She’s so beautiful.

  • unbornfawn

Love the shoes too. And all that GOOD grooming! They all look great and they make each other look better.

  • aeb1986

its hard for me to understand the construction of the dress because of the color. but she looks really wonderful

  • I can’t get past the bustier over the top of the dress. It gives off a visual illusion that her bust/torso is really thick, especially in the head-on shots. Sorry, I can’t get behind this one. But I do like the silver shoes, and the back of the dress is beautiful.

Also, Jeremy Renner needs to use less hair product.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

His hair reminds me of Johnny Bravo.

      • NinaBoo

I see Bob’s Big Boy in that ‘do.

        • H2olovngrl

I saw the same thing. A Leettle too high, I think…

    • Heather

But at least he seems to be wearing less foundation these days.

      • decormaven

        Thank heavens for that.

    • Emily Giovanni

From the front, it kind of looks like she is wearing a white long-sleeved shirt under a strapless dress.

      • filmcricket

Yeah, it’s another of those “T shirt under a dress” gowns, even if it’s Dior & not Chanel. It also gives off more than a whiff of Princess Leia.

        • Mismarker

          I can smell it, too!

      • Mismarker

RE the white tee effect: I don’t understand the construction of this dress and I won’t respond to it.

    • I totally didn’t even notice the bustier on the dress until I read the comments because I was so preoccupied with HER FACE. She is beautiful to the nth degree. Now it saddens me to see that construction because before, I thought this was perfection.

      • I know. SHE looks gorgeous, as usual. One of the few ladystars who knows how to do minimal hair and makeup WELL.

    • Kirsten Kirsten

Yeah, I had the same reaction: the bodice looks stiff, bulky and awkward. Loving the silver stilettos though.

    • AmeliaEve

      Convenient crumb-catcher feature.

  • MilaXX

Gorgeous! I would be more likely to get married in a dress like that than most of the wedding gowns out on the market. I was all ready to also compliment Renner until I saw the hem on his pants.

  • moppet

She looks just fabulous, but the construction of the area around her bust is a head-scratcher.

My boyfriend Jeremy Renner is looking kind of weird, too. And hem your pants, goofball.

  • quiltrx

I’m very over this trend of “strapless gown attached to t-shirt” looks. This is beautiful from a distance (though it looks a bit bulky around the middle), but when I get up close I really don’t care for the design.
Marion, on the other hand, is a vision. And I’m just impressed that she walked in those shoes without taking a header–they’re obviously several inches longer than her actual foot!

  • The chest shield is just weird. I’m not really all that fond of this at all.

    • YoungSally

Looks just a bit orthopedic…like a boobie cast.

  • Ashley Ellen Wilson

Oh I think this is a BEAUTIFUL gown. So classy.

  • kim bunchalastnames

… iono. the dress looks great from every angle — except the full frontal. in that first pic, it seems to widen her waist and do something odd to her breasticles. in all the other pics, she looks great, though, and those shoes? TAKE A LESSON, almost every one else in red carpet world.

    • Sara L.

Yup, in the first pic I was like, “what? they like that weird boxy thing?” and then in every other angle it’s like “Oh okay I get it.” Strange dress, but she does look amazing.

  • shirab

Why are the pointy-toed shoes so very long?

  • Lori

I would have liked this a lot more if it didn’t have the weird boob shelf. I looks great from straight on and the back is beautiful. Unfortunately the side view shows the shelf and that sort of kills it for me.

    • conniemd

This. But she still looks gorg.

  • Cameron Turner

Love her, love the shoes, like the dress….. are we done with Cannes yet????

  • BrooklynBomber

  • Can I be her, just for one day?

  • Poeta Paz

She looks like Princess Leia, even the hair channels Star Wars. I like it in black a lot better.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    Gorgeous. Excellent travail Marion!

  • j_anson

Eeeeehhhhh… I liked the Kidman one better. This is nice too, though.

  • nannypoo

She’s so pretty and so elegant. She almost always looks perfect to me.

  • kipper

really ? Im seeing scoliosis bride…..

  • TSkot

    WERQ and a half!

  • SewingSiren

Stunning. WERQing it in every possible way.

  • More than the sum of its parts. She lives in a parallel universe with Tilda and Cate and Zoe and they can wear things that us mere mortals cannot.

  • trisker

    Perfect! A total WERQ

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

    What’s up with his hair?

  • bertkeeter

Love the simplicity of the look at first glance. Detest that odd bustier effect over the blouse portion…n the pleats on waist are also a bit contrived looking. Back is perfect!

  • decormaven

She is working this look to perfection. Happy sigh!

  • Just remind her not to eat or drink anything all night! Or brush by anyone.

  • sagecreek

Would it have killed her to wear some earrings?

  • bd73

much better from the back. head on, that corset completely blocks her figure. why is there a foundation garment outside the dress?

  • kimiakay

Man, imagine the crumbs that’ll get stuck in the boob shelf. It is so weird. Otherwise the dress is elegant, and shoes are a perfect touch of color against all that white. Her makeup is just right. But she isn’t wearing any jewelry. Earrings maybe?

  • jmorino08

Head? Perfection. Waist down? Stunning especially those shoes! From the back? Va-va-voom! For the most part she’s a delicious filling for that man sandwich, but I do not care for whatever is happening in the boobular region. Is it a long shirt under a strapless dress? Is it a zipper pocket to hold her lipstick and blotting papers? Why is there a shelf on her chest?

  • elizonthelam

    I WANT her shoes!!!

  • Levedi

I’m not a huge fan of that gown, but she has magnificent carriage so she pulls it off well. Can we start a feminist revival of posture and other finishing school standard classes? Something like Ms Cotillard’s Finishing School for Self Actuated Young Ladies and Gentleman where students would learn to project poise, independence and self-respect through body language. Ms Cotillard’s mantra could be “I don’t care what your gender is, darlings, there is no excuse for slouching. Shoulders back, heads high.”

  • bellafigura1

    His hair is nutzo.

    • NoGovernmentName

      Total Bob’s Big Boy hair.

  • PeaceBang

Ethereal. Very “Joan Of Arc Walks The Red Carpet.”

  • titaness25

Permit me, oh great ones, to fix that first paragraph. “We are BEYOND bored with [insert random] trend. But we have to say, sometimes [Marion Cotillard] comes along and nails it so perfectly that you can see why everyone else keeps trying to do it.”

  • elemspbee

    STUNNING. This is super WERQ!

  • SassyKansas

Am I the only one who thinks her feet look enormous? I love the color of the shoes, but the toe is unflattering. P.S. I am such a worthy judge, as I sit here at the computer wearing 5-year-old khaki shorts, old T-shirt and Mephistos…

  • procrastinatrice

My obsession with her continues…my heart flutters a little when she appears on the thumbnails on the home page. I could look at her for hours.

  • Here comes the bride, all dressed in white. She looks beautiful but this is so bridal. Jeremy Renner……..sigh.

  • DuBey2

  • Imasewsure

She looks beautiful. Didn’t know Ed Grimley was in this film too though….he looks ridic

  • Colin

The three folds in the front ruin. it. completely.

  • carnush

What I love about Marion is that her makeup is always perfect and appropriate for whatever look she is wearing. She always looks so poised and radiant.

  • Austen Jane

I wish I got married in that.

  • katiessh

you’ve got to be kidding. yeah the back is nice and shoes are awesome but the construction on the front is so weird! It looks like some weird breast-plate. and the front-on photo makes her look really wide

  • Pterodactyl111

Oh man, I WANT those shoes.

  • stubbornthoughts

I don’t fully understand this dress, but I completely understand that she looks amazing in it.

  • Dress aside (and I actually love it): she and Jeremy Renner would make a delightful couple…….they have that “look-alike-ness” that makes their faces a nice fit together……(darn, now I’m gonna want this to happen…..)

  • shelley514

I’m thinking Marion Cotillard is a very down to earth and fun gal. That’s just the feeling I get from her photos.

  • PinkLemon

  • guest2visits

I do love the shoes but I’m only half on board with the dress. The back is svelte, but the front is at times widening and tricky. More distracted by the guys’ puddling pant-length.

  • H2olovngrl

Gorgeous! The silver pumps are the cherry on the sundae; well, if the sundae was upside down, anyway.
