an unusual garment with a great fit. shows off her figure quite nicely.

im not sold on the white shoes and bag. too jarring. and that clutch is a damn trapper keeper its so big.

but still she looks more good than not…

    • http://twitter.com/FlyoverFi FlyoverFi

I liked it until I reached the mosquito netting around her knees. But she is one gorgeous woman.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

Kind of reminds me of Katy Perry’s recent Prada flub. Not feeling it. The white Loubs also seem wrong, somehow. There’s just too many elements in that dress.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

LOOOOOVE this. I don’t even mind the sheer part, because it’s not like the dress is trying to be short and long at the same time. That color of purple is gorgeous on her. And it’s a bit of a Franken-dress, but it’s actually not too much, this time.

Now, I don’t know how this is going to look for a sit down interview, but here, I think it looks fantastic.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Agree. I didn’t mention the clutch and shoes… they don’t bother me, but they’re certainly not perfect for the dress.

    • JP

Oh lordy. I am so over that sheer skirt trend. That said, without it, it would be gorgeous. I think the thumbnail look was fab — if only the purple was more than a bib on the front. But I’d take it like that, just without that bottom netting.

      • ballerinawithagun

I agree. A beautiful, unusual dress until her “slip” was showing.

    • j_anson

This is a WERQ for me. It’s interesting and incredibly flattering; the colors are gorgeous on her.

    • charlotte

I don’t get the point of this skirt.

    • MilaXX

I was amazed at this look, because it was the same day as the Metgala (hence the purple stripe in her hair) & I was impressed with her transformation. Besides I kinda love Kerry right now.

    • hughman

Placemat in the front, business in the back.

    • makeityourself

Satin in the sunshine. A tough look for anyone to pull off. I bet the bodice looks great when she’s seated next to Dave, but I’m not sure that peplum/bib thing is going to work well in that position. I guess we’ll see . . .

    • alyce1213

At first I thought there’s one thing too many — what looks like a purple napkin tucked under her belt is nonsense.
Then I looked again and thought there are two things too many — the sheer bottom is not good.

Without those features, it would be a plainer dress, but much more chic.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

That bottom strip of sheer fabric is killing me. I’d absolutely adore this otherwise.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

There’s far too much going on in this dress.

    • decormaven

Outdoor light not kind to that look. Wish we had a screen cap to see how it looked under the stage lights.

    • Tracy_Flick

Tooooo much. The purple part looks like stage curtains, and the sheer is unnecessary. Take those two elements away, and I think it would be nice. The iris print is pretty and unusual, and the shape is nice.

    • http://twitter.com/nyazgirl NYAZGIRL

I swear, my first thought when seeing this was “Amish Whore”. Maybe it’s the apron, and the well placed curtains at the bottom. lol. I need a nap.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Pretty color for her. I would like it better without the transparent extension on the skirt. It doesn’t add anything, just distracts.

    • Hetha Innis

Take away that lap curtain and sheer panel and I’d love this.

    • Rand Ortega

Love it. Interesting, flattering, the color is doing amazing things for her. Even love the white accessories. What a gorgeous woman. Her full, beautiful lips are giving me life.

    • crash1212

Saw the show and my first thought was – wonder if this get up will make its way to TLo, and here it is. Take away the apron at the waist and the sheer and we might have something here.

    • judybrowni

      Frankendress.

    • 3boysful

She’s beautiful, and looks great in purple. However, I hate the dress–too many elements, so over sheer overlays, etc. Hate the white accessories (I still adhere, in general, to the adage that your shoes should never be lighter than your hem, although silly putty pumps may be a small exception when correctly deployed), and the clutch is too large.

      My, I am grumpy today.

    • flamingoNW

Yeah, I think the sheer bottom is a bridge too far. Just one too many elements. I like the top and the belt, would be okay with that paneled skirt if it weren’t for the sheer part.

    • stubbornthoughts

Cut off the sheer hem and uterus curtain, and you’ve got yourself a nice dress.

Seriously, that is the most awful ruffle/peplum/curtain/thing design I’ve seen. NO. REASON.

      • Patricia Gillett

I can live with the uterus curtain (puppet show, later?) but the sheer panel at the bottom needs to go!

    • VeryClaire

That dressed is confused! And confusing.

    • frannyprof

If it didn’t have that extra piece of sheer fabric hanging off the bottom, I would love it.

    • nannypoo

This has several elements I usually don’t like – the transparent overskirt, the napkin still stuck in her belt from lunch, purple streaks in her hair, a huge cheap-looking watch – but I like it anyway.

    • aeb1986

after that debra messing post, i like everything else i see

    • fringebenefit

      monstrosity

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alexandra-Glorioso/10025811 Alexandra Glorioso

      This dress is truly hideous.

    • http://www.linkedin.com/pub/anne-mccandless/1a/238/38a Anne

yup. My girl crush on her no longer allows me to judge her objectively. I say YES to everything, because I’m only looking at her face.

      • http://twitter.com/FlyoverFi FlyoverFi

I have a total girl crush on her too. I would *kill* to have that mouth.

        • oekmama

And the lip quiver. Poetry. :-D

    • Maryanne525

It’s a bit much, but she’s genuinely one of the few women who would be able to pull it off. Without the sheer element to the bottom, I think it would look stunning on her! Love that purple on her skin tone, and I continue to stand by the fact that she’s one of the most beautiful women in the world.

    • Bluesgirl22

      Say no to coochie curtains.

    • Anniebet

It’s just a teensy weensy bit past the “this is weird as shit” line.

    • BrooklynBomber

      I miss the dumpster.

    • Sara__B

How can she look so good in such a weird dress?

    • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

      Scrolldown fag.

    • Claudia Fernandes

getting nostalgic of her sexy hipster days

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

Love it, even the sheer panel at the hem. It’s “girl, this is your (and only your) dress.”

    • jennifervney

Love it all! She is making it all werq!

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Ohhh, I don’t like this. And I like the white pumps even less.

    • teensmom99

Kerry is the rare goddess who can make a silly sheer panel and white shoes work. I’d even say WERQ.

    • Janet B

Pretty, but she can make just about anything look good.
(The purple kind of looks like a scarf tucked in her belt to cover a revealing top.)

    • jmorino08

Frankendress if I ever saw one!

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Why shoot her at the service entrance? What an awful back drop for such a lovely look!

      • alyce1213

Because they don’t let the paps inside. Everybody gets shot at the stage door of Letterman, usually in front of the big green garbage dumpster, so this is actually better.

    • KayEmWhy

She has something to wipe her hands on at dinner. Don’t like the peplum or the sheer panel. The shoes and handbag are too jarring.

    • E. D.

The sheer hem doesn’t work as well as it does on the model. Otherwise no major complaints.

    • Adriana_Paula

I don’t usually have truck with the complicated garments, but I love this.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

        i loved this comment

    • formerlyAnon

She appears to be wearing a complicated and whimsical apron over her little black dress. Fortunately, she is so elegant otherwise, that no one will mistake her for any thing less than the “hostess with the mostest” in the “applicable to [mid-century Washington socialite] Perle Mesta” sense.

    • LaSylphide

Against the odds, I really like this, thanks mainly to her ability to make almost anything look good. Anybody else wearing this would look like a waiter. And I love her hair pulled back like that.

    • demidaemon

A frankendress she almost makes work. But that weird loinclothy peplum and the unnecessary sheer hem just makes all the design decisions half-assed. Good try, Kerry, but this dress needs a reboot.

    • CommentsByKatie

God yes. I love this. Even the sheer bits and the awkward length. One thing I do hate is the seam in the sheer panel….that easily could have been one piece. There’s hardly a curve at all, and only a curve would require seams. WHY. This is becoming a fashion pet peeve for me!

    • Crystal

She looks beautiful, but I dislike the white shoes and the sheer weirdness.

    • Lesley

initially my first reaction was whoa too busy, too much going on but the more i look at it it’s kind of growing on me. or maybe it’s just that i think she is beyond beautiful and therefore i’m being generous..

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I am just going to sit back and wave as the white pumps train passes me by…

    • quiltrx

Those three dresses are pretty. :) Seriously, it’s a bit frankedress for my taste, but it’s alright.

    • ankali

That “I tucked my napkin into my belt” design element is weird, but it’s not bothering me. I think she looks stunning.

    • kimiakay

It looks like a halter napkin tucked in. I wonder if it would all work better if the colors were different. That purple is screaming at the black, the white shoes and clutch are shouting back at the dress. Who will win? No one, because that panel in the front of the skirt takes it to a whole different territory. It’s different, striking, but too many disparate pieces.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kathleen.ayres.37 Kathleen Ayres

She’s so lovely… I don’t understand her affection for odd, and not in a good way, dresses.

    • Tatiana Luján

she looks beautiful in spite of the dress, not thanks to the dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

She looks great but would have looked much greater w/o that sheer black bit. The mosquito netting cheapens the whole look and makes it too busy.

      • fursa_saida

I was thinking that too, but then I tried to picture the dress without it and the purple part became overwhelming. I came around on it. I also think it actually is working better on her than on the model; not sure why, in this case.

      • oekmama

The reason the netting(?) didn’t work is because it just kinda hung there. Whereas, it was stretched taut on the model. ie, they put in a split for Kerri.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

Maybe an interesting runway dress for a tall woman. The overskirt is plain weird. The white shoes are all wrong in most cases period. However, Kerry Washington is the IT-GIRL now. She should have been People’s “Most Beautiful” this year. She’s beautiful and relevant and humble.

    • Anniebet

Love her hair bun. She’s lovely as usual. The dress could use an editor, or perhaps an undertaker.

    • Colleen

pretty and interesting. don’t love the white shoe.

    • StrandedFashionista

All I can really say is I never thought I’d see the day that a floral loin-cloth/cocktail dress looked covet-worthy and chic, but by GOD it does.

    • librarygrrl64

AWFUL Frankendress, white pumps, NOOOOOOOO!!!! I wish I could un-see this.
