Girl, That’s Not Your Dress: Katy Perry in Givenchy

Posted on May 06, 2013

Oh thank God. She’s been dressing so well lately that we feared an era had ended and we’d only ever be able to praise her from here on out.

Katy Perry leaves her hotel in NYC in a Givenchy t-shirt dress paired with Jimmy Choo boots.

It’s nice to see she can still fuck one up.

Oh, Katy-honey. This is not your dress, girl. There’s a LOT within your style wheelhouse, but we’re afraid you can’t pull this one off. The black hose and biker booties were not the best choice for the look, dear. Nor is your somewhat limp-looking hair.

But don’t feel bad, honey. It’s just not your dress and it needs to be set free on the wind, where it can fly away and land in Chloe Sevigny’s backyard. She’ll know what to do. Now go put a Smurfette dress on or something. You’ll feel better.

Somebody’s been playing in her bestie Rihanna’s closet again…

    • Kiltdntiltd

And for a woman with such a slammin’ bod, this is doing her no favors whatever.

      • gabbilevy

It may just be the way the dress is moving as she walks but it’s creating the illusion she’s hiding something under there. And if, in a few months, we learn it’s not an illusion, well, this will be the dress that first tipped us off.

        • Kiltdntiltd

I think you may be right!

        • Rhonda Shore

it looks like the dress is superimposed on a picture of her vice her actually wearing it. The boots are cute.

      • aeb1986

i think i hate the open sleeves the most, they totally throw off the proportions and leave my eyes confused

      • foodycatAlicia

But dear god she looks comfy! This is a perfect “I’m having seconds” dress.

      • drdarke

        There’s a bod under that dress, @kiltdntiltd:disqus ? I wouldn’t have known….

Wrong dress on the wrong woman, and the styling isn’t right for it at all, anyway.

    • Corsetmaker

I like the boots. That’s all I can say.

    • Jane

      That’s a bad scarf times 6!

    • Katelyn Page

To be fair, it looks like a shapeless ornate curtain on the model, too.

      • Sheneve Butler

I agree, “Would that dress look good on anyone?”

    • zenobar

      …just because it says “Givenchy”…

    • Elaine Lang

Those boots would look awesome with jeans. The rest? NO. From the thumbnail, I thought she was wearing a grown-up sized “Baby Surprise Jacket” which would at least get her brownie point from the knitters…

      • Kirstin McAulay

Shout out to the Ravelry massive!!

    • Gaby

Those split sleeves ruin it, which is funny because I have a special fondness for split sleeves. Despite her best efforts, it just looks ripped open. Splitting sleeves on the underside seems like an awkward design choice, though I’m not sure this material would drape in a pretty way even if it were slit on top.

    • hughman

It’s like a superhero outfit for Mrs. Roper.

      • zenobar

        Oh, Stanley!

    • Mrs. Julien

So is one of her ankles bandaged or is she wearing sweat socks under her boots? Not that I’d blame her.

      • zenobar

I think she’s wearing a pair of buffer-zone scrunchy socks.

    • annabelle archer

Her casual looks are clearly her weak spot. She can do cartoon over the top and she can do glamalicious va-voom, but take a girl out for shopping a little lunch and she is lost as to how to dress of the occasion in a Katy Perry way.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Girl, that is not your look.

    • Danielle Lisle

      Oh, dear.

    • MilaXX

That is a truly fugly dress. I dislike split sleeves on the outer arm, what possessed the to make them on the inner arm? The only thing I like about this look are the boots.

    • another_laura

Oh ugh, it’s the boots that are killing me. Those have a very very limited utility, and it’s certainly not with this dress.

    • mellbell

      How exactly is a silk button-up shirt a “t-shirt”?

    • CB

I hate the look of a completely buttoned-up collared shirt so much (unless it’s on a man with a tie). I’m not sure if this dress actually has buttons, but I just want this look to disappear forever.

      • kimmeister

Not to mention she appears to have put a tiny string of pearls right at the collar.

    • CommentsByKatie

She looks sad. Now I’m sad. :(

    • Sara L.

Whose dress is this? Besides Satan’s, that is.

    • alyce1213

The boots are great, but I laugh that they cost $1200 when you can get the real thing (new or vintage) for a fraction. I mean they’re biker boots, it’s not like you’re getting a Jimmy Choo-designed shoe.

    • TheAmericaness

That dress makes me mad and the boots on the model makes me furious.

    • jetpackdino

I really want to fix this. Would a belt help? What if we belted it, put it with leggings or jeans and unbutton the top button and… put a great big sweater over the sleeves, and… yeah I give up.

    • BrooklynBomber

That’s a terrible dress. Sorry, Hubert de.

    • Bert Keeter

Plain FUGLY on anyone! Happy Monday!

    • Susan Collier

Is that dress made of scenery from NYCB’s Nutcracker Act I? It looks as stiff as gessoed canvas. The chair rail effect is doing her no favors, which is why most designers don’t include them on outfits for people.

    • gillian holroyd

      Those boots are stumpifying.

      • Lori

That was my first though. The combination of that dress and those books makes her legs look about 6″ long. Did her hotel room not have a full length mirror or what? Also, biker booties with hose? What the heck is up with that?

    • Joyce VG

    • Raanky

Those sleeves are doing her absolutely no favors!

    • flamingoNW

Not even sure that would work for Chloe… Yuck

    • crash1212

Wow, that is one ugly dress – even looks awful on the model. There is not way to fix this. Great boots though – of course, not with this dress.

    • jmorino08

I want those boots really bad!

    • NurseEllen

Two tablecloths slapped together and slit in inappropriate places. Honey, this ain’t ANYONE’S dress.

    • j_anson

I actually think she could pull this off, with the right styling, but unfortunately, this is the polar opposite of the right styling.

    • Anniebet

I don’t think anyone could pull this one off. Pretty hiddy dress, IMO. Nice boots, though.

    • kingderella

love the boots. nice dress, too, but indeed not hers. i can see florence in it.

    • marlie

I think this MIGHT have worked if it weren’t for the hose and the boots. Really, do hose and boots EVER go together?

Edited because I accidentally typed “hoes” instead of “hose.”

      • carolclark12

Hoes and boots … I just laughed like Beavis and Butthead.

    • LaSylphide

Never thought I’d say this about anything by Givenchy, but that is one awful dress.

    • demidaemon

Did she put in on backwards? Because that slit is really, really awkward. Like vagina vent awkward.

    • ItsDicey

      I totally dig those boots.

    • sleah_in_norcal

that first shot is the worst picture i’ve ever seen of her. it almost looks distorted, like she’s squished down and bulging out at the sides. she looks stumpy and dumpy. and why do her boots look silver is the first shot and black in the rest? and how is this a t-shirt dress? so many questions, so little time.

    • Sara Leigh Merrey

That’s really nobody’s dress, shapeless with stupid sleeves. The boots are great though. Axe the hose.

    • lalahartma

I like it! But yeah, maybe not for her.
