Josh Holloway at the Disney Upfronts

Posted on May 24, 2013

Boy, do we miss Sawyer. We didn’t realize it until just now.

Josh Holloway attends the Disney Media Networks International Upfronts in Burbank, California.

Our Lost DVDs sit in a cabinet, patiently waiting for the bug to hit us again. So far, it hasn’t happened. We keep saying we’re going to do an entire watch-through again someday, but we don’t think enough time has passed. We were never pissed about the finale, but the entire final season did kind of sour us on the franchise. Still, every once in a while, we’ll find an episode playing on some obscure channel we never heard of (and can’t seem to ever find again when we look for it), and goddamn, if we don’t get sucked right back into it.

Anyway, we figure a couple of LOSTies in the crowd probably miss Sawyer too, so here you go. We can’t say we’re in love with the look. Not every guy can handle multiple undone buttons in a dress shirt, with a suit.

But hey, at least he’s got something in the can. We always did think it was odd how badly the Lost castmates managed their respective careers. Five years ago, we could have sworn several of them were heading for major movie careers.

Wow does that jacket ever not fit him! Its at least a size too large. Also, if you insist on showing up with no tie, press your shirt, so the placket doesn’t sag like that.

  • carnush

I really hate his hair. And I miss Sawyer too. Him and Sayid. I wanna see Naveen Andrews on the red carpet!

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      All of the above.

    • lrober03

The Sawyer hair was good to him

    • MartyBellerMask

Oh heck yes. Where is Naveen Andrews??!

      • JasmineAM

I’ve never seen him in a show for more than like 15 minutes, but he is soooo attractive. And I’m jealous of his curly hair

        • MartyBellerMask

Oh, you want hair? Watch The English Patient. Naveen plays a Sikh and his scenes with Juliette Binoche are beautiful.

        • http://twitter.com/sillytwigg twigg

He did a guest spot on Law and Order SVU a few seasons back and his hair was straight and it was divine.

    • maggiemaybe

      THIS! So much THIS!!

    • Melissa

Poor Sayid really got a shaft ending, didn’t he? What a waste of excellent acting!

  • TAGinMO

I don’t know who you are, and that suit looks kind of sloppy. But you, sir, are sex on a stick.

    This way, please.

    • http://twitter.com/hmbscully WendyD

Oh this is “Sex on a stick”-lite as far as Josh is concerned. Imagine him with longer hair, sweaty, dirty, and shirtless. Oh yeah. That guy.

      • Jessica Freeman

Please. Just. Stop. I have work to get done today. Sawyer. For the love of all things sacred….

      • Allison Drury

I want to have 10,000 of his babies… with the longer-haired version. I LUSTED him in his Lost days. I would still turn into a puddle if he dared breath in my direction. It’s getting hot in here.

    • barbarienne

I never watched Lost, so don’t really know who this guy is either, but I’m kind of loving his rumpled charm.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Wow – he looks barely dressed – everything is kinda half falling off it seems. Odd for a Disney photo call, but fine, JUST FINE for a Sausage Friday post heading into a long weekend!

  • mjude

hey sawyer, its so nice to see you again. i forgot how much i missed your dimples. thanks tlo for reminding me of my never ending love for LOST

  • iheartbuffy

TAKE YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR POCKETS

  • Jessica Freeman

Lost is also on Netflix and I tried to re-watch it recently, and couldn’t make myself do it either. I stopped watching after the first episode of the last season, I just couldn’t.

Anyways, Sawyer was always my favorite and he looks so dang cute (fit of suit notwithstanding). I miss his quips.

    • tessasouthworth

Sawyer was my favorite too. Not only am I a Netflix subscriber, but I also have the entire six seasons on DVD. And what has prevented me from a rewatch thus far is the foreknowledge of the series’ disappointing ending. Like Tom & Lorenzo, I was never a rabid Season 6 hater, and I will still stop on the stray episode that pops up occasionally in the upper regions of the cable universe. But now that the guys have tweaked my memory, I may just have to revisit the Island this summer and spend some time with the shirtless, sweaty, brooding, long-locked and smoking (hot) Mr. Ford!

  • jw_ny

He looks so much better with short hair. I never really thought much about him before, but this made me stop and say “hmmmm…”

The open shirt suits his casual style, and isn’t too undone. His shirt collar is nicely stiff too. Too bad about that jacket being over-sized, but overall he looks decent…

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

He’s pretty. I also like the demonstration of range – blue steel to cheesy grin is epic.

    • Spicytomato1

I think he was a model before he was an actor. Guy knows how to work a camera, I think.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

        He sure looks the part!

  • marlie

Sawyer, I missed you! The suit seems like it’s a size too big on him. I like the color of the suit, but I wish he’d worn a shirt in a color other than white.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

I think enough time has passed for me and I’m going to re-watch over the summer when nothing else is on. There hasn’t really been a show on since that has been a replacement for Lost for me (Mad Men and the Walking Dead come close). I just saw a headline about this being the 3 year anniversary since the conclusion of the series and they had a picture of Jack and Vincent in the final scene–still brought a tear to my eye.

Anyway, I too am surprised not to see Josh Holloway in more things. He’s devastatingly handsome and could surely pull his weight in action movies, etc.

  • Nicole Chubb

If you don’t watch Community, there is a hilarious Western-themed episode in which he guest stars and is FREAKING SEXY in. (I don’t know why I emphasized that – it’s a given)

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      yes!!!

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Adorable. I prefer him scruffy and beachy, but this isn’t too bad either. If the fit had been dead on, I don’t think my ovaries would have been able to stand it. Hopefully a smart someone in charge will remember him and put him back on watchable TV.

  • MilaXX

Not crazy about the hair. It’s like half an inch too long or too short.

    • nannypoo

      Looks like a baby bird.

    • Spicytomato1

Exactly. I always wanted to see him more clean cut but this style doesn’t quite cut it (no pun intended!).

  • tessasouthworth

Thanks, guys, for some Lost Pretty, no matter how badly fitted! Like you, I was a hopeless Lostie. In fact, what made me a regular visitor here is the fact that you combined witty & insightful analysis of both Lost and PR back in the latter’s good old days. I understand that CBS just picked up a spy-themed pilot called “Intelligence” starring Mr. Ford to air in early 2014 (which is probably what this appearance is related to). If so, I’ll be there, just as I am for Person of Interest starring Ben Linus and Hawaii Five-0 starring Jin Kwon, Bates Motel starring Richard Alpert, as I was for 666 Park Avenue starring John Locke and as I will be for Mistresses starring Sun Kwon, no matter how schlocky this last one promises to be (as for Claire’s/Hurley’s and Juliet’s current incarnations on Once Upon a Time and Revolutions, I tried, but I just can’t). I agree wholeheartedly with your point about how disappointing as a whole the former castaways’ career trajectory has been since they escaped The Island, so I hope that Sawyer’s new venture is a success.

    • Spicytomato1

What about Hurley in Alcatraz? I always meant to watch it but never remembered when it was airing.

My 12-year-old son and I just finished watching the whole Lost series on DVD about two weeks ago — his first time — and we love spotting ex-Losties. We squealed when we heard about “Intelligence.”

Upon second viewing, Lost holds up really well, last season included. I’d have to say I enjoyed it almost as much as the first time. Pro: Not having to wait months between seasons. Con: Not having a kick-ass recap/analysis to savor and discuss (I occasionally looked up old ones but it wasn’t the same).

      • Angela_the_Librarian

I really liked Alcatraz. It was just picking up steam when it got canceled :(

        • Qitkat

I did not care for Alcatraz. I wanted to like it, as it seemed like a very interesting premise, so gave it around 3 episodes, but the storyline felt so repetitive to me that I gave up on it.
I haven’t been able to get into Person of Interest either, again with the interesting premise, but too convoluted in a strange way for me. Miss how awesome Michael Emerson was in Lost, where his strangeness in a strange world worked so well.

      • deathandthestrawberry

Hurley showed up on Once Upon a Time too. It might have been a one-off appearance though. I’m not a regular watcher. edit: D’oh. I just saw that was already mentioned. Nevermind.

        • Spicytomato1

We saw that! Not the episode but a preview and my son was annoyed at what he seemed to think was the typecasting of him as the giant.

          • deathandthestrawberry

It reeked of typecasting to me too. I really like the actor, in fact, Hurley was my favorite part of Lost. Hugo Reyes will never be traditional leading man material, but it would be nice to see him in a non-fantasy role.

      • twocee

I’ve wondered if watching LOST uninterrupted would make the lesser episodes and seasons more palatable. I actually was one of the few who liked the final episode and most of Season 6, but the thought of rewatching the stupidity of Jack’s Tattoo and the cage episodes has me rolling my eyes even now.

    • kimbalala

Hurley had a bit part in Californication last season that was hilarious.

  • Sobaika

Evangeline is going to be in one of the Hobbit movies and… that’s all that comes to mind, actually. A good portion of the cast deserves a lot more work/recognition.

I was thrilled about the last two seasons, but there was one episode about Richard’s backstory called Ab Aeterno that was masterfully done.

    • twocee

Immediately after Lost ended Evangeline Lily said she wanted to stop acting for a while because Lost had been so all-consuming. Maybe she’s coming back now. I never thought she was Oscar-caliber but I do miss seeing her on my TV screen.

And anytime Richard Alpert showed up I was all and completely in.

      • Sobaika

I just googled, she’s had a baby and will be in the The Hobbit installment that comes out this December. She was one of the weaker actors/characters on the show imo.

It’s strange though, so much of the cast has ended up in the TV wasteland. Desmond was on the first season of Scandal, Locke’s show was cancelled, Richard was on Ringer but that got cancelled too.

        • twocee

I think alot of the Lost actors got pigeon-holed into shows that were trying to recreate the serialized mystery/scifi that Lost had. Those shows’ producers knew that the Lost fanbase would at least give the shows a shot in part because of the actor (Elizabeth Mitchell seems a great example of that).

Matthew Fox probably avoided that because he’d been a major star of something prior to Lost and was able to do some transition to movies.

          • Sobaika

Which is too bad, because she was easily one of the more capable stars of the show. There are exceptions though – Michael Emerson on Person of Interest (I only saw the first season but it was good and I keep meaning to get back into it) and Daniel Dae Kim on Hawaii 5-0 (never saw it but it’s been going strong for a few years now).

          • twocee

I just can’t stand Jim Caveziel on that show so I haven’t watched POI since the first couple of episodes.

I watched H50 for the entire first season and thought it was quite good, but those watching it solely for DDK were probably disappointed.

        • Spicytomato1

It is strange, almost seems like a curse of sorts. Maybe a Lost reunion would break it!

    • Melissa

Ain’t it a shame? So many absolutely awesome actors shafted into sub-par tv work after, if that. Part of it is that a lot of them weren’t white–the best roles just aren’t /there/ for a lot of actors of color. But I also agree with twocee about the pigeonholing. I’m happy about Evangeline in Hobbit though. Kate could be such a terrible part at times, but I think she has the chops to work with better writing!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Monzerrat-Ontiveros/100000216133922 Monzerrat Ontiveros

He looks like Val Kilmer! ugh! Miss the hair.

  • KayEmWhy

I’ll take him sloppy any day. :-p

  • aeb1986

    TGISF!

  • nannypoo

In the second picture he looks like Prince William. A bastard relative of the British Royal Family. Who knew?

  • formerlyAnon

    Starch. Shirt needed starch.

  • formerlyAnon

Even when they’re “just fine” rather than looking marvelous or perplexing or disastrous, it is very nice to see so many guys. I like this new Friday tradition very much. (Wanted to get that in there while I can, Disqus is randomly making the comments go AWOL for me today.)

  • Spicytomato1

Any day that features a Lostie is a great day in my book.

Love the color of the suit. And those dimples! *swoon*

  • http://www.what-the-frock.com Dana WhatTheFrock

DO NOT WATCH LOST AGAIN. I did it recently and it really doesn’t hold up a second time.

Rewatch the first season, it’s still awesome. But seriously, don’t rewatch the whole series. I was super-disappointed when I did.

I missed Sawyer, too. He was the Han Solo of the Losties.

    • Spicytomato1

Ooh, I just re-watched it, too. And loved it. Maybe because I watched with my son who had never seen it. It was fun to see him get attached to the characters/setting/stories the way I initially did.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

I re-watched the series sometime last year and it held up pretty well for me. Actually, I intend to watch the series again over the summer (Yes, I am that much of a Lostie). I think “Lost” is one of the few shows that can hold up after multiple viewings.

    • littlemissstrange

The Han Solo of Lost. Totally.

I don’t agree that the show doesn’t hold up well… I do agree that some of the fun was in not knowing what the fuck would happen next on that crazy ass show, but still, even knowing what happens, it’s a lot of fun to watch. And there’s so many things you forget about, or things you missed when you watched it before. And of course, Shirtless Sawyer.

  • Janet B

    Dimples and a smile.
    Nothing else matters.

  • fungstyle

Easily my favorite character on the show. Yay for him getting something new made!

  • pattyw

Dimples. Sigh. I just wanna hear him say “Freckles” one more time.

  • BeeBeauNYC

Funny, I just watched the “You Can’t Go Home Again” season finale from Season 3 (or 4, can’t remember) and bawled my eyes out again as that plane landed with the Oceanic 6 on it!!

  • procrastinatrice

He is soooo damn good looking it hurts. Him and Bomer. Damn!.

  • littlemissstrange

*sobbing* Sawyer, you wisecracking son of a bitch, what has become of you? That hair…. but the second to last picture is beautiful, lookit dat smile! Can’t nobody beat that.

For real though, what’s happened to the Lost cast? Jack has some bit part in World War Z… Kate has fucked off completely… Locke did some shitty show that got canceled… I’m hoping that Sayid will land a part on Game of Thrones, he’s British so there’s a possibility.

    • Sobaika

Mini potential spoiler but not really:

There is a character in the GoT books that is made for Naveen Andrews. MADE. If they don’t try and get him then they’re just plain stupid.

      • littlemissstrange

I know precisely which character you’re talking about, and yes, they would be fools not to cast him. But then there are plenty of fools in showbiz. Fingers and toes are crossed…

    • Lindsay Maki

If he doesn’t get cast as a Martell (or Daario, but that ship has sailed) I will be forced to write a disappointed comment on the Internet regarding that error.

If they make the Martells white I will be forced to write a series of disappointed comments. I’m hoping I won’t have to do either of those things!

      • SassieCassy

if they whitewash the martells there will be hell to pay

  • random_poster

Some tailor should take him and Zack G and work some magic to promote his tailoring skills.

I never watched Lost, so I clicked on a “You might also like:” link at the bottom with a picture of him to get a little context about his other looks. It landed on one with him wearing a silvery beard. He looked great that way, but man, this shaven jawline makes me want to run my hand over it and then some!

  • stubbornthoughts

    Swoon.

Forever and always a devout Lostie.

  • StellaZafella

I never saw enough of ‘Lost’ to know him from that…but I’ll take this here with a dollop of cream on the side, thanks.

  • AnaRoW

We must have seen something different because I thought most of the cast lucked into Lost and would disappear after it went off the air. Aside from Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson, none were standouts in the acting department and most of the rest of the cast are way too bland to make any kind of mark on the big screen. A bigger screen requires a bigger personality.

I do hope this new project works out for Josh but historically his acting has veered wildly from painfully bad to acceptable. I’m not quite sure he should be headlining a show.

    I hate his hair.

    • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

You must have read some other post because we didn’t write a word about anyone’s acting skills.

  • deathandthestrawberry

Lost had a quality cast. Even if the writing got ridiculous, the characters always made me care. I think that’s why newer fantasy shows like Revolution and Once Upon a Time haven’t been able to get as much traction, despite even featuring former Losties in the cast.

Anyway, one thing I did like about the Lost’s last season was the ‘flash forward’ with Sawyer and Miles as L.A. police detectives. Someone cast Josh Holloway in a procedural! I’d watch the hell out it. (Actually, I remember hearing Holloway turning down TV offers. More’s the pity.)

  • quangtran

The Lost castmates doing pretty well for themselves, all things considered. Transitioning to TV is a no go for most TV stars because these they mostly get sent horror or comic film scripts. Virtually all the main players decided to play it safe by sticking to TV and being the toast of polit season, while the main three Fox, Holloway and Lily were the only ones attempting movies. Holloway gave himself a five year plan to break into films, and despite everyone hyping him as the next Viggo Mortensen, he’s since struggled to book anything worthwhile, hence him running back to TV only three years later.

  • flamingoNW

    Yummmm. I miss Sawyer too….

  • webslice33

    he looks gigoloish..

  • Gwyndall

What a difference a smile makes. I had no idea who he was, but the first few photos had me saying “ew”… then he smiled, and I “got” it.

  • Qitkat

He does the intense brooding so well, and then throws us that smile with the dimples. I can’t resist the dimples.
I miss Sawyer too. Xfinity Streampix has Lost too, I’ve been considering a rewatch.

  • Alexandra Pimenta

Oh, my dear Sawyer…. How I miss thee… and your dimples. <3 Funny that "Daryl Dixon" is somewhat filling the void now that Lost is gone..

    • littlemissstrange

Daryl will never be Sawyer. NEVER.

      • Alexandra Pimenta

Oh, I didn’t mean that way! There is definitely only one Sawyer. I meant that there’s a special place in my heart for the “supposed to be a bad guy but has a heart of gold and kicks serious ass” kinda way. ;)

  • sk8tfan

I was never a Lost fan, but he was in MI 4 for about ten minutes and he was so compelling and charismatic I thought they could have done an entire movie based on his character. He does have charm and looks, I’m surprised he isn’t all over the big screen all the time. And I like the suit, but not the fit issues.

  • Mona_Visa

I love this guy! Did anyone else see that episode of Community he was in a few seasons ago? The Black Rider… Dayumn fine.

  • http://twitter.com/kitchenflails Cassidy Olsen

I was always way more into Matthew Fox as Jack when Lost was on, but now that he’s a drunken, (allegedly) wife-beating mess, I will take Holloway any day.

  • PinkLemon

we’ve been revisiting it lately – we’re in season 4. but it’s only as a backup. all our regular stories are over for the season. and….it’s not worth it. haha

  • demidaemon

Man, you know he knows he looks bad. He’s all, “I’ll smile and everyone will forgive me for this.” But it comes off as more, “Please don’t hit me for looking so messy.”

  • H2olovngrl

I have opinions. First off, I am not digging the Rod Stewart hair, but his 1000 watt smile almost makes up for it. Secondly, you are correct. He has been sorely missed. I would be very happy to have him gracing my TV once a week again. I will definitely give his new show, Intelligence, a chance, and the fact that his costar is Red Riding Hood (Meghan Ory) is a major bonus. She was one of the highlights of Once Upon a Time. Third, my husband just went through his own rewatch, and it really helped him come to terms with the final season. Apparently, he got a lot out of it, and he was able to tie it all together much easier. Prrhaps you fellasshould knock the dust off those dvds and give it a go.

  • kimiakay

Wow. Did he get younger? He looks fine. You just keep smilin’, Josh. We’ll keep watching.

  • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

holloway has always been one of my favourite actors on lost (along with junjin kim, elizabeth mitchell, and probably some that im forgetting) but man, does he look terrible here. the haircup, the suit… just no.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

His hair is clean. B+ for that. He has really really nice teeth. A- for that. He has a nice twinkly smiley face. A. Hands in pockets. B-. Dimples. A++++++++++++++

  • lesmaha

    That’s hot.

  • andreawey

I don’t know I think Sawyer cleaned up pretty nice, what do you think Freckles?

  • Di

Why is anyone looking at his clothes? Look at that smile! *swoon* =)

  • PLH

Through many seasons of “Lost” I wanted to make a sandwich of myself w/ Sawyer and Desmond. Yum to the nth degree w/ a megawatt smile and dimples to boot!

  • josh johnson

    bruce wayne.. nuff said
