Joel Edgerton in Ferragamo at Cannes

Posted on May 17, 2013

Happy Sausage Friday, darlings. To kick things off, let’s gaze at a man in a too-tight summer suit. Here’s Joel, serving up some “Kurt Russell circa 1980” realness:

Joel Edgerton attends ‘The Great Gatsby’ photocall during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a Salvatore Ferragamo off-white suit with two button peak lapel jacket.

And serving it up well, we might add. We could talk about the ways in which his suit is pulling too tightly, but we suspect you’re all focused on his butt in that sideshot so we’ll leave you to it.

  • Mmmmmmm,…Joel is just my kinda sausage; even in a too tight casing. We’ll just have to help him out of his “hampering things”, shan’t we?
On the style front, I like everything about this, aside from the fit. WANT them shoes, stat.

    • decormaven

Ditto on the shoes. Very fine choice.

    • Pennymac

Much guffawing from my office at “tight casing”. This summer suit is a wonderful choice for a Gatsby photo call. I’m of the age where I think of Farrow and Redford when Gatsby is mentioned. I’ll have to see this version in the hopes of getting some more peeks at this particular sausage.

  • He was so perfect in “Gatsby”; can’t wait to see him in other things (including more tight-fitting suits.) Can we talk about how awesome his “Gatsby” polo costume was?!

    • Jecca2244

Yes! He was actually one of my favorites. and totally the Tom B I imagined all those times I have read GG.

  • I’m also getting a Russel Crowe vibe here. I enjoy tight pants on (most) men. More, please.

  • quiltrx

I’m not familiar with him, but he’s giving off a Russell-Crowe-ish vibe that I definitely respond to. And if he had left the button undone, we would never have known the jacket was too tight. And I’m just glad the pants don’t have the “crazy crotch” (looks like he’s wearing numerous pairs of underwear) like the model’s!

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Rent “Kinky Boots” with Joel and Chiwetel Ejiofor! He’s great in that.

      • MilaXX

        I prefer clean shaven Charlie.

    • conniemd

I was actually amazed that he could pull the front of the jacket enough to actually button it. In the first shot the sides look too far apart to come together.

  • TheAmericaness

You had me at “circa 1980”. No really.

  • Diego!

Nice, but he should shave that beard, it makes him look “neck-less”.

    • MilaXX

And his eyes are too pretty for all that grizzly.

  • Hello Sausage Friday! I’m eating an egg white wrap with bacon and I feel like I’m cheating!
He is a manly man with a sweet smile, well trimmed scruff and hair I want to grab a hold of.
More of this would not hurt my feelings today.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

I think this time, Ilsa is grabbing Baz’s ass.

  • A bit more color would have been nice somewhere – his shirt perhaps? Otherwise, he does look like Kurt in the 80s – maybe he’s getting ready for a Snake remake?

  • SRQkitten

Russell Crowe + Kurt Russell = Joel Edgerton. And I think you boys are being way too critical – look at how many pictures you have and not one has his hands in his pockets! (The fact that they wouldn’t fit in those very nice snug fitting pants is completely beside the point.)

Thanks for the new Friday tradition!

    • “And I think you boys are being way too critical”

      You’re kidding, right?

      • SRQkitten

Tongue was planted firmly in cheek there! Your comments are totally on target re: the jacket; when I try something on that fits like that, it’s a pass for sure.

  • carnush

The jacket is a tad tight, but a great look overall. Perfect for Cannes! And I dig the pocket square.

  • Crystal

I actually kind of like the beard. It makes him look friendly.

  • MilaXX

I’d give him a pass on the pants if he didn’t look ready to hulk out of that jacket any minute.

  • He kinda looks like a trim Donal Logue here

    • eowyn_of_rohan

+1 for the Donal Logue reference. Don’t see a lot of those around here.

      • Donal Logue, exactly! Kurt Russel, too, but he has the…gah, I don’t know what the word is. Sweetness? Approachability? Kurt Russel always seems like he’s inwardly mocking everything.

That hair is just begging to have fingers run thru it, isn’t it? Mmmmm…..

I’m loving sausage Fridays. LUH. VING.

  • I’m awake now.

  • Chris

He looks like the love child of Kurt Russell and Russell Crowe. Russell Russell perhaps?
ETA: Just saw SRQkitten beat me to it below.

    • SRQkitten

Great minds think alike! Russell Russell, too perfect!

  • Heather

MMM. Much cuter than Kurt Russell, in my opinion, who was never my cup of tea. Beautiful suit even if it is a bit tight.

  • Heather

BTW is ‘sausage friday’ a regular feature now? Oh joy! A girl can never have too much sausage. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Julie Fountain

Awesome. He’s wearing it better than the model!

  • Czarina5 Czarina5

TLo, So what type of footwear do you recommend to men wearing a white summer suit?

  • SewingSiren

  • DocLynn

There’s something odd going on with the jacket lapels… Did he sleep in it and then attempt to iron them himself? And the fit of the jacket is so dodgy it’s distracting me from looking at the tight tight pants. Love the shoes, though.

  • Best part of The Great Gatsby is his performance.

  • I still can’t believe this is the same guy who was Luke’s uncle in the “Star Wars” prequel.

There, that nerdiness out of the way, I wish his pocket square was in a more attention-grabbing color. Maybe something to set off those baby blues?

    • FrigidDiva

I did not even connect him to that role in the prequal. Wow.

  • frannyprof

He is the best part of that movie. Great performance.

  • DaveUWSNYC

    Not enough sideshot

  • PastryGoddess

I love a man in a white suit

  • boweryboy

    Oh, he’s a Monet.

The photo of him getting out of the car I was all “Damn!”

Then when I got to the close up photos I was all “Hells no!”

  • Jecca2244

wow. he looks SO different in GG. No wonder i couldn’t place his face when i saw the movie.

  • MikeW_Vegas

Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my chin and keyboard

  • ErmengardeGreen

  • Mrs. Julien

Beards. Beards. I love beards. Beards are back. Yay beards.

I hope Isla Fisher is okay. She always looks soooo unhappy.

  • OrigamiRose

Mmmm hmmmm. So glad I am playing hooky to see Gatsby this afternoon, with this photo spread as my warm-up ๐Ÿ™‚

  • maggiemaybe

  • e jerry powell

I will eat that sausage every morning with my eggs and toast, thank you very much. But yeah, fit issues. Like, 1970s-worthy fit issues in a 1980s color.

Let’s see it wet! Like, Liz Taylor in Suddenly, Last Summer wet!

  • RAWR! Love the look so much I don’t even care about the fit issues.

  • I love a man in a light colored summer suit, but the man IN the suit isn’t doing it for me.

  • nycfan

He actually played a quasi-Kurt Russell circa 1982 in the recent remake of/prequel to The Thing, and proved a wan substitute, but he looks great here.

  • j_anson

Ugh, no. That facial hair. Some guys rock beards, but he is not one of them. :

  • Sorry-I’d rather have Kurt.

  • Gloriana Reginata

I do prefer him carrying the extra muscle he had on for “Warrior”, but otherwise I think the reddish scruff goes quite nicely with the light suit ๐Ÿ™‚ Shame he didn’t keep the touch of colour in the shirt from the runway look, though: even a pastel would have relieved the white versus cream that’s going on between shirt and suit.

    • Patricia Gillett

I agree, I was just going to post about the sadness of paring a white shirt with this suit.

The beard looks good, not quite as well groomed as Chris Pine’s but a step up from many of the sad efforts guys put in on the red carpet these days.

  • CatherineRhodes

    Kurt Russell 1980s. Precisely!

    • NYCGlamourpuss

      I know, it’s perfect!

  • When did Conan get hot?

  • Hello, Uncle Owen!
