Too much monotone, and that necklace is too busy to go with an also busy dress. The dress, I liked, until I got to the bottom, where it looks like a couple of swans may have just climbed inside.

  • Julie

I love a good swan reference. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leda_and_the_Swan

  • sekushinonyanko

I mean this is a great dress in which to poledance for the Black Swan film. Otherwise…

  • jw_ny

Ruined it with accessories! No to the necklace, no to the matchy clutch, and those shoes make her feet look ginormous! I’d like the dress a whole lot more if it didn’t have those stupid angel wings peeking out from the underside. ugh…it’s kind of an overall mess…

  • charlotte

Marchesa does not disappoint when it comes to disappointing.
At least the booms are still gone.

    • Introspective

marchesa are experts at fug. but what’s most disappointing here is the unending assault of that dead horse known as jessica biel: fashionista.

put her in some rag and bone skinny jeans, combat boots and a big summer scarf and let her trot about manhattan hugged up on j timberlake. she’s so much better at casual. and so much more believable.

  • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

Nope. Not working for me. Something is off. Actually, that’s it! Take off the necklace! Doesn’t go with the dress. Also, the shoes are kinda bland.

  • Synnamin

Is there a Black Swan sequel coming up?

  • Julia Dunne

Would be fine without that ridiculous necklace, which looks like something By Adrienne from the Home Shopping Network. The Bulgari version is a bit better, but it’s still a lotta necklace with that dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1067922432 Mackenzie Miller

As a total HSN (and QVC addict) I am somewhat embarrassed that I totally know to whom you are referring. That woman is really, really scary. And agreed on the necklace.

  • hughman

    Who’s laughing now, Bjork?

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      All. Of. Us.

    • RedRaven617

My thoughts exactly. I was having a horrid back flash.

    • JulieTy

Bjork taps into her Slytherin roots.

    • MoHub

Exactly where my beady little mind went.

    • NOLA_gal

C’mon. Bjork did it with WAY more panache.

  • steeg of their own

It’s Cannes, honey, not the Oscars. That just seems like an awful lot of dress and an awful lot of bling to carry off at a summer film festival. She looks gorgeous and I like the dress, but I’d like it a lot better if she was wearing it to something like the Globes rather than just to a film opening at Cannes.

  • blogless

And yet, this is the best I’ve seen her look in a while.

  • hmariec19

Yes, Jessica. We see your ring.

  • Sara__B

Overwrought and bland all at the same time. How did she manage that?

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      It’s her special gift.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

This woman has the fashion world at her finger tips and she manages to find the fugliest stuff and throw it all on at the same time. One upside, no booms.

  • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

The dress is interesting except, as noted by @twitter-201349512:disqus, for the dead swan bottom but it absolutely obliterates her boobs and makes her look completely flat chested. I could deal with the matchy accessories but that necklace really kills the look for me.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Well. Disqus took Chuck Barthelme and turned it into some odd twitter addy. Whatever, Disqus!

  • Griffinqueen

I think the overall effect is lovely, although it does like like a gaggle of geese climbed up her dress to seek shelter.

  • Jillybean

This is horrifying. Those feathers. The matchy-matchy clutch. That necklace that doesn’t go at all. The flattened chest. Everything about this is an utter FAIL.

  • Daisy Walker

Unattractive dress with horrible styling. Blech.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Did she just hatch an egg under there?

  • Anniebet

Honey, if you’re gonna make a statement with a (totally ugly) necklace like that, don’t go for a complicated dress with freaking feathers on the hem. And, that’s enough blusher for the entire cast of your hubby’s movie. Did I mention I hate snake jewelry?

The dress without half the avian population of Europe is fine, even lovely, but it does nothing for her chest area. Notice I didn’t say breast, ’cause there don’t appear to be any.

  • GSMSF

It looks like the snake ate a swan and barfed out its remains. Like something the janitorial crew has to clean up on a golf course in Florida.

    • ceceliadid

There is definitely a coded message here … I am a pretty princess (white dress, white breaditude), something dangerous and powerful has me in its clutches (snake necklace, jt), I am ready for a timberseed (mama’s got a nest under here!).

Or maybe it’s as simple as please, put a Gosling under my skirt. Who can’t relate to that?

  • joything

I am going to have to write a screenplay about the photographer with the sad-owl face and bad hairpiece behind Jessica in the pic 5th from the bottom, and the African-American (?) lady in the sparkly black dress behind Jessica in the final pic. A publicist and a paparazzi. It’s love, y’all.

  • Janet B

That’s some dress. Does it weigh a ton?
Go ahead and do monochrome if that means you can take off the necklace.

  • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

Why that necklace? No, no, no, no, no. Arg. I sort of like the dress, which really didn’t need any embellishment, although the feathers are a bit odd. Fail!

  • JasmineAM

She is so bland. I don’t think I’ve even heard her speak before. JT is so personable and charming, and she’s just….blah. This whole outfit is blah. Also, that blush is HORRID. And so are those abominations on her feet.

    • demidaemon

It’s kind of amazing that a silver dress that looks like it is made of bent metal with some white something at the hem can be rendered blah by the wearer. Isn’t it?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Elizabeth-Poytinger-Baumer/1516981341 Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

why cant this lovely lovely woman find any gay to dress her properly? what is her problem?

  • AlisonS

She really fucked it up with those shoes.

  • Tatiana Luján

the necklace is too much, but I love this dress.

  • crash1212

WTF? Are those…..feathers attacking her legs? FEATHERS! I could only tell on the model version – what’s at Jessica’s legs looked like, I don’t know…bunting of some sort? It’s a pretty enough dress, but she’s mucked it up with the awful necklace, and those shoes. If she had to put a serpent around her neck, the version pictured would’ve been far more acceptable than the gross thing she’s got on. At least she ditched the bangs…so there’s that.

  • alyce1213

I thought it was insulating foam under her dress until I looked closer.
WTF is with that overdone, overwrought hideous dress?
Birds had to die for that?
I hate Marchesa. Not as much as Stella, but still.

  • TheAmericaness

I know that this is the effect that is wanted, but I feel like taking a pair of scissors and trimming.. there’s little bits and loose ends that are driving me crazy! The necklace just seems like an odd choice. I can kind of see it, but the I look at it the more it just doesn’t seem to go. The necklace should be with a simpler dress.

  • PeaceBang

I am so upset that this happened.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

    Girl, no.
This a bird dress and a snake necklace. Say that out loud. See how stupid and wrong that is?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

why on earth won’t she spring for a stylist? she looks like a victorian halltree.

    • Rowena Marvel

She has a stylist, Estee Stanly… she’s just a really sucky one. Case in point, she also styles Lea Michelle.

  • http://twitter.com/commish24 commish24

Does she know Bjork is hiding under her skirt?

  • teensmom99

I know some people are against mixing reptiles and birds, but I think she looks great.

    • MoHub

It’s a lesson in evolution. Basically, birds are the next step up the chain from reptiles.

  • http://twitter.com/omg_dora Dora K.

I find this dress literally (literally literally!) nauseating. The bottom looks like there are live chicken in it and the outer fabric looks like worms or… really long nails? And the snake on her neck… It’s not an outfit, it’s a horror movie creature and I need a hug.

  • jmorino08

I think she needs to stick with one animal. Snake or swan, which is it going to be?

  • roche

This is a real head-turner of a dress with those swan feathers. But the shoes are wrong — she should have gone with black. And the snake necklace is a kind of cynical note, as if the snake is threatening the swans. She looks very beautiful, despite the styling.

  • PastryGoddess

If this dress had been on Zoe Saldana or Diane Kruger they would have slayed us with their fierceness.

Jessica Biel puts a dress on and it turns into a whole lot of BLAND. How does she do that? It’s like a reverse super power

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

      Reverse Midas touch :)
Jess is just sooo bland with her standard good looks — like a low-rent version of Amanda Knox.

  • 3boysful

I had the same thought–the snake is chasing the chickens hiding beneath the skirt.

I do love the dress material and I j’adore the clutch.

  • conniemd

I don’t get why any designer would think the swan/goose/duck feathers hanging out of the bottom of this elaborate woven dress would be a good idea. I don’t care how she styled it, snake necklace and all, the dress would always look absurd and overwrought.

  • KayEmWhy

What’s with the dead birds at the hem? Other wise the dress is only just fine and the necklace doesn’t work at all.

  • E. D.

Love the dress and hair, but she’s wearing 3X the blush she should be and the necklace and shoes are no good. The necklace is too much and the shoes are not enough.

  • http://profiles.google.com/richixcore Richi Robilotto

It’s a beautiful dress, but it looks like it’s not meant to be worn for more than a few minutes. On the runway, the feathers look beautiful, but on her, they look all warped.

  • ballerinawithagun

I thought I loved this, surprisingly since it is Marchesa, but then I came to the poor dead swans at the bottom of the dress. My grandma could pluck that for you, Jessica.

  • http://twitter.com/hmbscully WendyD

In my mind, JT was photographed with Carey Mulligan because he decided he needed to take one thing off before he left the hotel and it was Jessica.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pamela.hunt.796 Pamela Hunt

Is that a swan in her dress or is she just glad to see us? Beautiful top half and freaky dead swan bottom half.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Super interesting dress, but it looks like it’s about to slide off of her torso. And the necklace and shoes are all wrong for the dress.

  • OrigamiRose

I actually quite like the dress but… the necklace and those (OMG make it stop) flesh-toned heels are making me stabby.

  • JeanProuvaire

This was actually totally working for me, cleav snake and all, until I saw all the shredded toilet paper stuffed into the bottom. Goddamn it, Marchesa.

  • http://twitter.com/NMMagpie NMMagpie

Too much of some good things. :(

  • Pennymac

    Over-wrought.

  • l_c_ann

The Aflac duck and his family are kidnapped in Cannes. Who would have thought Jessica was in on the dastardly deed?

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

The necklace doesn’t work for with the dress. Hate the swan song hem on the dress as well. Pretty clutch.

  • ali meowmeow

Love the necklace, but the dress looks like it got to the knees and gave up.

  • AnnaleighBelle

It’s all beautiful silver and white, but I don’t approve of the feathers. Or the shoes.

  • guest2visits

I think this dress is gorgeous, but the necklace absolutely does not go – it is much too heavy and not in the style that suits the fairy/swan like femininity of the gown. It’s was tacky to throw them together. The deco style snake is nice but it appears thick and rope like, almost like a lariat. Not for this gown. Better not to wear anything like the model.

  • barbarienne

The double-loop of the necklace was an error. It shortens her long, elegant neck to have the upper loop.

I like the dress, but what is she smuggling under there? I didn’t see it as feathers at first–I thought it looked like furniture padding gone wrong, or maybe cotton candy.

  • BrooklynBomber

She looks great, though the snake doesn’t quite work.

  • Louise Bryan

Swan is better than what I was thinking, which was how much she looks (at least from the waist down) like a hen. Bwaaak!

  • MilaXX

Almost but not quite. The dress is mostly pretty except the bottom looks like a duck’s butt & the bodice seems to be a tiny bit too low. Hair and makeup are fine. I think she should have worn a pair of diamond studs in her ears, and the necklace doesn’t quite go.The bag is overkill. Something a bit simpler that doesn’t fight the pattern on the dress would have been better.

  • Scoobydrew

I really like the necklace and the rest … meh, but I think that is the Biel Effect. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen her in a movie – at least that I remember.

  • maejune87

    Swan Snake!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

A friend of mine is really into snakes – she breeds ball pythons. So on her behalf, I’m going to complain about that snake necklace. Snake scales point the other way! They layer away from the head so the snake can move forward. If Bulgari is going to put that much craftsmanship into a snake necklace then they should have thought about the aesthetics of how a real snake moves. This snake looks weirdly frilly instead of sleek and edgy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

Jess didn’t have the balls to go full-Swan, huh? Sorry, hon, Bjork owns this category!

  • Ummy

I like the top half. The texture of the dress is very cool. The hair might be a bit dull for it.

But every time I see the bottom it’s like “Oh my lordy a chicken flew up her skirt and got stuck.”

  • nannypoo

I like the fabric. The top is pretty. The bottom is bizarre. The feathers are bulky and the place where they begin is awkward. The necklace doesn’t make sense with the dress and the shoes are not at all attractive. And she has way too much blusher.

  • quiltrx

You can either be a dove/swan princess OR the chick with a snake around her neck. NOT BOTH. I love the *idea* of the gown, but it’s kind of a Monet. And I think the feathers would have worked better if the skirt were fuller.
And those shoes are AWFUL. I don’t think this is the dress for a big “pop of color”…but maybe a subtle color, like a darker grey or a pale pinkish or bluish or lilac shoe, would have done something for the look as a whole.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Erin-Hines/620149309 Erin Hines

That necklace is amazing and I love it a way that might be wrong. The dress is meh.

  • demidaemon

That is one seriously f-ed up dress. It’s all “Silver Christmas” on the top to “Now we’re in the clouds. WTF!?” on the bottom. Also, I just don’t think she is the fashion girl she is trying to be. Still, nice to see no hair on the forehead. Small favors.

  • drdarke

Come on, everybody! Give it up for @sekushinonyanko:disqus ‘s “poledancing for BLACK SWAN” – I’m still cackling over that one!

  • kipper

THE WOMAN IS SMUGGLING CHICKENS !

  • drdarke

Yeah, Chuck Barthelme – from the waist up and the clutch, it’s pretty in a princess gown kind of way. I even kind of like that the clutch matches perfectly – there’s a time when matchy-matchy works, no matter what Nina Garcia says!

But that hem – oh, my stars and garterbelt! It truly does look like a swan took up residence in front, doesn’t it? And it looks like she’s wearing high-heeled clown shoes that neither match well nor complement the dress.

And WTF is up with her stylist? Her blush makes her look like she has Rosacea – and somebody needs to save her before that snake around her neck strangles her!

  • dschubba

I like the gown, but everything else–shoe, necklace, hair, inhabitant–can go.

  • jetpackdino

Unless you want to have the next icky thing scientists discover under a microscope named after you, do NOT, repeat, do NOT wear a dress like this.

  • Qitkat

There is something just so wrong about this dress, and yet, I love it. It looks better from the front though, that chicken is molting in the back view. Shoes are bland, and need more style to complement the dress, such as what the model wore. Better to have kept the snake at the shorter length, and picked up the green somewhere else. This minaudiere is gorgeous, but lost against the skirt, exactly why TLo have been preaching against matchy-matchy. Nevertheless, Jessica looks gorgeous and happy to be wearing such a memorable dress.

  • Mar8

I think she may has an ostrich below her skirt and she doesn’t know

  • Joanna HK Wong

I would say keep the necklace and not the swan dress …..

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-Charlotte-Siewierkiewicz/503556621 Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

I first thought the bottom of her dress was some kind of foam. Then I noticed the swan feathers in the Marchesa collection.

  • MartyBellerMask

I really love the dress. It is different, and she gets all the credit in the world for wearing something so crazy and bold.
But come on. Why that necklace, that clutch, those SHOES. Why, girl?

She went simple with the manicure, I will give her that.

  • Aurumgirl

That dress is way too literal.

  • MoHub

Is she changing her name to Leda, and is that Zeus under her skirt?

And looking at that bodice makes my boobs ache.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

Good one! I’m half-expecting her to lay an egg :)

      • MoHub

        Many eggs.

  • BPlease

A beautiful woman who never looks right to me – she has no style, it seems, and thus is always overstyled and try-hard. Also: her doubtlessly hugely expensive, huge engagement ring is ugly to me, and also try-hard and not far off from the kind of thing a gumball machine in a Chuck E. Cheese might spit out.

  • lrober03

    Scrolldown Swan

  • titaness25

I love this dress. The side view is kind of weird, but it’s still nice. Also she looks lovely.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

She should have worn a simple black dress to show off the snake necklace (which is the coolest part of the ensemble). The dress is pretty but a bit too fussy (hate the feathers)

    • MoHub

There is no such thing as too fussy for Marchesa.

  • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

I really like this look. She looks great in this dress & it’s dramatic. The necklace can go away, then I’d be happier!

  • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

I actually like it (one of my first-ever Marchesa likes), but thought it was a dress-ode to the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. Love the necklace

  • Crystal

Thank god her hair is off her forehead. She looks so much better without ridiculous bangs.

  • SugarSnap108

It’s … Serpentine on the top, fungal on the bottom?

  • Rachel Marie

It’s just too much. It does look like a garter snake is trying to eat a giant mutant swan. But it’s a shame because the dress really is cool on its own, and so is the necklace. Just not together. And those shoes are a hot mess.

  • tereliz

Great necklace, ugly dress, wrong shoes. I really don’t like the shape of this dress, the way it clings in some places and looks lumpy in others. The shoes are sorta, I don’t know, matronly with it, and the color makes the white of the dress look dirty. The necklace is too badass for everything else.

  • EEKstl

The hemline and feathers are distractingly bad. The shoes are for an office job, not the RC at Cannes. Hair is meh and for SURE she should have done a pop of color with her lipstick. She’s dishwater grey from top to bottom.

  • http://twitter.com/RaankyRaank Raanky

I’m going to be in the minority, but for some reason I J’adore this look altogether!

  • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

I love the dress but hate the accesories and the hair. They ruined it.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

    TOO MUCH. Lose the snake.

  • Weazley

The first shot from the front played with my eyes. The model’s got feathers – hers looks like mounds of shaving cream.

  • Monabel

I get what she (or her stylist?) is going for, and I love it. Poetic, strange and witty. May I have the necklace when she’s through?

  • amanda lynn

it’s pretty! she looks so incredibly tightly wound though, right?

  • librarygrrl64

The necklace and clutch are competing with, rather than complementing, the dress. And the dress is about 100% more interesting to me than she is, unfortunately.

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

Snake eats bird. It’s like rock, paper, scissors.
