i want a different color for this. more subdued bc the sequins already tack it up. shes looking good though

    • DinaSews

The sequins and bright blue color makes it resemble a dance costume to me.

  • Lori

I hate this dress, but I sort of love that she wore it, if that makes any sense at all.

    • Missy Covington

Kinda my thoughts exactly. Dress is not good, but she looks fabulous anyway, and I love that she went for it.

      • drdarke

The blue looks less tacky than the black one on the model did, and she sells the dress completely.

        • Missy Covington

Agree on the black/blue…which is kind of amazing, considering black is usually the “safer” choice.

          • drdarke

Absolutely, @facebook-13953311:disqus – the black dress on the model looks like a wardrobe malfunction, while the Sky Blue on Jane Fonda looks like a Westernized homage to a sari.

Now all she needs is Amitabh Bachchan to show up so they can do a number together….

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Yes. I don’t particularly like the dress, but Ms. Fonda looks fabulous in it.

    • Rand Ortega

Miss Jane has always had chutzpah. It shows in her fashion choices even today. I used to work for her & she always dazzled the crew w/ her workout & street clothes choices.

    • barbarienne

Yes, this is a dress that can only work on someone who stands tall and radiates, “I’ve seen things you can’t even imagine. I could show up in a plastic bag and you would still worship me.” Fortunately, Jane is one of those people.

      • drdarke

Not if you watch Fox News you wouldn’t, @barbarienne:disqus !

They still hate her guts for things she said before most people here were born….

    • poggi

YES! Exactly. I love that she is demanding to be noticed and not hiding in a boring, black dress that is “suitable” for age.

  • Deac82

The color and shoulder pads take the dress into a Blanche/Rose Golden Girls mashup…and not in a good way

    • Qitkat

It’s such a shame that any reference to the Golden Girls comes across as negative. The older I get, the more I understand some of their sartorial choices, and the less I’m inclined to make fun of them. They were four awesome broads, no matter what they wore!

      • Deac82

don’t get me wrong, I LOVE The Golden Girls. Its just that this dress seems so dated on her and this dress has a color that I would image Rose would wear, but just slutty enough for Blanche.

        • Qitkat

Lol. Maybe that’s part of the reason I like it.

  • Qitkat

Elegant, beautiful color, classy. I LOVE this on her.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

DAYUM. She looks fabulous. I don’t care that there’s a cutout on the side and in the back; she looks AH-MAZING.

  • aeb1986

I know this dress is Versace but it looks cheap to me…still love her though

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It has to be said, Versace often look cheap.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

For me Versace is synonymous with cheap-looking, I’m afraid.

  • ghopping

I think the color of this dress makes her seem dated, if that makes sense. That’s an 80’s bright blue.

    • MoHub

Actually, that ice blue seems to be the up-and-coming color. It’s showing up more and more of late.

  • Missy Covington

Ruching is an older-lady’s best friend, methinks. This is extremely flattering on her. Not that she doesn’t have a fabulous body all on her own (and not even “for her age”).

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

yeah, i don’t think she needs the ruching, though. DAT ASS.

  • Tatiana Luján

This dress would have been great if it didn’t have the cutouts of the ribs and the lower back. The sequins are a bit too much with that color.
    She looks amazing, anyway.

  • TSkot

Wonky dress, yes, but the whole picture? Amazing.

  • homofascist

75 years old people! 75! She could wear a granny panty dress and I wouldn’t even be mad at her…

    • random_poster

I would. I’m so very glad she didn’t go there.

    • Rand Ortega

    • AmeliaEve

Not only does she look good, she looks like herself. So many of the mature lady stars have become plasticized caricatures of their former selves. Jane still looks like Jane and not a reconstructed burn victim.

      • Spicytomato1

This is what I came here to say. But it does make me wonder, if she can have the work done so subtly, why can’t most anyone else?

  • PastryGoddess

That cutout on the ribs is problematic. But looking at her from a different angle she looks great.

  • SewingSiren

She still has a great body. You can’t fake that. The dress is super cheap looking . I generally think that about Versace.

  • Anniebet

Lookie here, BKs. Anyone who was born in 1937 who can look this amazing deserves our respect and kudos. So I, for one, think she’s absolutely gorgeous. Brava, Jane.

  • carpediva

    Putting the model to SHAME.

  • Sara__B

Such an ugly gown, but Jane Fonda still manages to look amazing in it.

  • OrigamiRose

I hope to look so good when I’m *forty*-five.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Which devil do you think she sold her soul to? She looks AHmazing. The topic of hands comes up here so often, and how they often betray a woman’s real age, as they are such a difficult body part to maintain cosmetically or naturally, so the fact that she has the hands of a woman half her age or younger is no small wonder. Brava darling.
The dress is so 80s but most of her appearances lately have had that feel, so clearly she re-enjoying a great decade for her.

    • Karen Tully

I was just thinking the same thing about her hands–no tacky Madonna half-gloves required!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Her hands may show her age, but I appreciate that she’s not trying to HIDE them. Instead, she’s wearing a ginormous honkin’ diamond, as in “yep, bitches, this is what you get to wear when you’re my age, so you can all suck it.” Plus, I don’t think that her hands look… bad, for lack of a better word.

Also, she’s had work done on her face, but she doesn’t look like she’s trying to be 40 here. I think she looks fabulous all around. And that figure? You can’t fake that.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Psssst….I said her hands look terrific.

        • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Oh – I was in total agreement with you. Everything about her is fabulous.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Wow. She looks amazing. I just read some of the comments, and am surprised that people aren’t loving the beautiful color. We see so much black at these events, the blue really stands out. And it makes her eyes pop! I say more color on the step-repeat, please!

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I agree. That color looks divine on her.

  • http://twitter.com/commish24 commish24

All honor to her. She makes that weird cut look good. And women a quarter of her age couldn’t do that.

  • Dan_In_NYC

She is 10 kinds of fierce, but this dress is completely Project Runway – and not in a good way. It’s conjuring serious flashbacks to Rami’s bubble gum pink ruched wrestler outfit – only in 80s blue instead of pink.

Still, she looks amazing – love her hair and earrings, but the dress is not my fave. Agree that it looks chip.

  • alyce1213

The gown is fiercely ugly (and cheap-looking), but her ferocity trumps it. She is a living wonder.

  • Janet B

    Ms. Fonda, you look lovely.

I’m not a fan of the dress; that many sequins says Dynasty.

  • fringebenefit

Incredible. She has taken a hideous gown and made it spectacular–at 75. AT 75!!!!! She should get the Nobel Prize for WERK.

    • l_c_ann

      Or for work done.

  • http://www.facebook.com/CameronETurner Cameron Turner

Not a fan of the dress, but she is SHUTTING IT DOWN!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=603005248 Jeff Warhurst

    I like the stain, personally.

  • Coolekat

I hope my derrière looks like that when I’m 70 something.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I love the colour but the dress is a bit pageant-y, no? And not Miss America either, something a few rungs down.

  • PrunellaV

Lord have mercy. I call it a WERQ.

    • Jillybean

Me, too. You WERQ that hot bod, old lady! Dayum!

  • mjude

its jane, i will bow the fuck down.

  • nannypoo

Don’t like the dress much, but she’s making it look fabulous.

  • titaness25

This is such an ugly dress- in a lovely colour for her, though.

  • kimiakay

Sorry. Hate the dress. Cut-outs? Color? It’s not her age, either. Just do not care for her at all. Her face and expression say “Trying too hard, and I got it right.”

  • MilaXX

Her plastic surgeon deserves a lifetime achievement award. She looks good but I really don’t need to see granny rockin the cut outs

  • Buffy

That is a very strange dress. However, she looks fabulous in it and I’m glad she went for it.

  • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

I love her! She looks great! Don’t like the cutouts on the dress, but she can get away with it, which is amazing on a 70+ woman.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I know it’s been mentioned but it must be stated again. SHE’S 75!

  • Daisy Walker

The dress is ugly, but she still looks fabulous.

  • http://twitter.com/carelessriver Caterina Maria

    It’s like Picasso made a mother-of-the-bride dress.

  • decormaven

My only pick is probably the earring choice. I would have liked to have seen an earring that rested on the earlobe, instead of dangling from it. But day-um, that is some wonderful, understated facial work- both from full front, side and back view, there’s no visible pulling of skin. Special props to the hair stylist- her hair looks fab.

  • j_anson

It really is amazing how color can take something from… “Twilight extra” to “rather daring elderly lady at a cruise ship dance.” Can’t say she doesn’t have the bod for it, though.

  • TheAmericaness

In the thumbnail, I thought it was Carol Burnett.

    Love me Jane. :)

  • MoHub

    bride of the Blue Mummy.

  • VicD

WERQ – she classes up this dress big time

  • AlinaValero

    her poor, poor earlobes…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I think the cut out on her ribs looks out of place. Otherwise she looks fantastic.

    • conniemd

This. Agree totally. Like that she didn’t do the leg slit like the model.

  • http://www.facebook.com/poyznelf.thompson Poyznelf Thompson

oh wear clothes with wrinkles to detract from your own!

  • E. D.

    She looks good.

  • YoungSally

    Bless her heart.

  • l_c_ann

How nice to see Carol Burnett enjoying the sun at Cannes.

  • lizajane1776

Is it bad that I thought immediately “Carol Burnett?”

  • CommentsByKatie

Lol, I thought from the preview that her arm was in a sling.

  • GoryDetails

I wanted to like it, but the asymmetric cutouts at the top just made me think “Your dress is broken.”

  • jw_ny

oh no…adding shoulder pads, more sequins, changing the fabrics, and changing to that awful color, took that somewhat interesting and edgy gown into pageant tacky town

  • Peeve

Sorry, for me it’s a Frankendress, made up of bits and pieces. I don’t know what contract with the devil Jane’s made to look so young (particularly her neck and hands), but it’s still a fugly dress!

  • M. H. Leader

I dunno…I am blown away that a 75-year-old looks so damned good. We all should be able to wear a cut-out dress at that age!

  • e jerry powell

That is a sickening look. I can’t keep myself from bowing down.

I might be inclined to take the shade down a couple of notches, but those eyes of hers would probably cut me in half because they like that look in that specific color.

  • unbornfawn

Jane looks fantastic. The dress looks like crap.

  • bellafigura1

Holy mackeral, insane. Love it all, especially her adorable ass, all high and perky! Mad good, Jane, mad good.

  • PeaceBang

Stupid crooked dress, fantastic, elegant woman. She should give lessons on how to just stand there.

  • crash1212

Damn if she isn’t making what could be a tacky dress work! I am worried that she’s about to lose her right earring though. I hope the Jewelry Patrol was following her.

  • http://thatswhatthemoneyisfor.wordpress.com/ lizlemonglasses

    I’ll have what she’s having!

  • guest2visits

It was hers until the second gap in the back, and the one on her side. Just a bit more than needed.

  • MissMariRose

I think I would’ve liked this dress if it weren’t rendered in that absolutely hideous color.

  • Louise Bryan

I love the color, and she looks amazing, but that dress is tortured. Overworked to an extreme.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002718877231 Bert Keeter

Does Debbie Reynolds know Jane swiped her dress? JF looks awesome…but not living this Vegas number on her.

  • LaSylphide

If a 75 year old ladystar of JF’s magnitude wants to wear tacky, trashy Versace in an obnoxious color, she’s earned it. And let’s face it: she looks great.

  • lilyvonschtupp

Look we all know JFo is fabulous. But that dress is not.

Helen MIrren maybe. Jane Fonda no

  • plinkiedoodle

Come on, people. Give an older gal a break. She looks wonderful!

  • quiltrx

It’s a REALLY odd dress (built in pulling and awkwardness!), but she is working it hard (especially from the back–damn, girl!). And her hair looks fabulous.

  • silaria

I know the point of the Whiteboard is to show stuff TLo doesn’t actually want to talk about, but I like to think that some things end up in this section because they just don’t want every other entry to be nothing but, “…yeeeeeeeeeeup.”

  • ankali

Jesus, that bodice is a mess. Nice color, but that’s about all I can say for the dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-Charlotte-Siewierkiewicz/503556621 Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

The side-slit should have been closed.

  • Tuneful54

Love Ms. Jane, but I felt like I was looking at a cubist painting, under the influence of a controlled substance. Out.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=594362374 Rebecca Clifford

Well, she’s got the bod for it but 1985 was kind of a while ago.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

It’s okay. I much prefer the raspberry gown she wore yesterday.

  • Melanie

Her hands are gorgeous. And this is a great color for her.

  • http://twitter.com/RaankyRaank Raanky

    Lady can do NO WRONG!

  • http://www.facebook.com/tremainewheaton TJ Leo Wheaton

The version made for her looks light years better than the runway version and god only knows how I feel about the runway version… That said LOVE and the color on her, wish she was wearing a different dress because I can’t do it anymore with Loud and Tacky, I mean Versace!

  • Gwyndall

The runway version looks interesting in a BDSM way, while the red carpet dress with the bedazzling looks “Vegas walk of shame”… (I got dressed too fast to put my gown on correctly).

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I don’t know if TLo plan on covering more of Jane Fonda at Cannes, but she’s been looking spectacular on the red carpet this week. I’m in envy.
