Emma Stone on the Spider-Man 2 Set

Posted on May 30, 2013

We hate Emma because she makes us blurt out things like “Adorbs!” when we see her. And we hate “adorbs.”

To play “The Girl in a Superhero Movie” is not often a rewarding thing for most actresses. It’s a rare gal who can punch through all that cliche and make a part her own. It’s an even rarer gal who can make the part essential to the story. We weren’t over-the-moon about the Spider-Man reboot but we thought Emma made just about the very best “The Girl in a Superhero Movie” we’d ever seen.

This getup makes a perfect little “Girl in a Superhero Movie” costume. It’s got moxie. And it’s colorful. And the shapes are simple in an almost cartoony way. Also: moxie. Because we love that word.

  • Jennifer Ford

Moxie is generally the perfect word for Emma Stone, in or out of “girl in the superhero movie” character. She had moxie in that ridiculous and yet weirdly enjoyable “House Bunny” movie, after all. She just has THE MOXIE!

    • Amy Lawson

So glad I’m not the only human being alive besides Mr. and Mrs. Stone who find the “House Bunny” movie enjoyable.

Emma is totes adorbs. I just threw up in my mouth a little…but she really is.

      • Jennifer Ford

She really is. *makes Emma-ish face of adorable disgust at use of “adorbs”*

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Oh, no, not just you – I love “The House Bunny”. It’s one of my secret shames.

        • Amy Lawson

This pleases me to no end. This is a safe place. No shame.

      • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the house bunny. it is one of my “bucket of chocolate ice cream” movies.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

      She IS the MOXIE!

  • You gotta love moxie, also, chutzpah. a current fave though is fanfaronade.

She does look adorbs, which I do not love. lol

    • StellaZafella

I like “moxie”…but so rarely find an appropriate situation to use it without raising the Yiddish eyebrows on some of my Jewish coworkers.
I was stuck on “panache” for a while until it started to sound like I’d gotten the pages stuck together on my word-a-day calendar…now I’m back to just saying “ballsy”.

    • I use “adorbs” inside my head, but I’ve never had the moxie to say it out loud. I’m afraid of sounding like I live my life on the internet.

  • Is that her boy’s dog? Such a cutie!

  • teensmom99

And my teen will be wearing this ASAP . . .

  • mjude

i want those shoes. she is “adorbs” (cant believe i typed that)

    • editrixie

I just typed that! I want those shoes…I have no idea how one even goes about finding the damn things.

      • Seriously. I never knew how badly I needed pale pink oxfords in my life until I saw these photos.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

I know! I’m with you, I have got to have those shoes! I love oxfords, they’re kind of my go-to shoe anymore, but pink ones? Must have!

          • rajf

I had some like those back in the eighties (toes were not quite as pointy)…totally forgot about them until now, and now I miss them. a lot. I had some beautiful bone wingtips too.

          • halleygee

Me too, we used to call them “jazz shoes” lol

  • Cz

    Gah, girl crush.

I’ll take the bag, the jacket and that gorgeous redheaded dog to go, please. Tout de suite!

    • Meg0GayGuys6

And it’s refreshing to see a bag that costs less than a rent payment (or two)!

      • RedRaven617

But the jacket is running in the $1800 range. that sort of ruins it. Is she dressed for her part or just on set? Either way it works.

        • Meg0GayGuys6

Yea, I chose to ignore that price lol. Ignorance is bliss? I was wondering the same- I’m not sure if the person whose style I love is Emma Stone’s or Gwen Stacy’s.

  • etselec

Coveting that bag and those shoes. Love the jacket but it wouldn’t work for me, so one less instance of one of the ten commandments broken for me. (Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s… anything.)

  • shirab

That jacket is so pricey! But that bag is within the realm of the possible!
Meanwhile, I am always entertained by the fancy ads that pop up for me after I’ve clicked on TLo-provided product links.

  • gabbilevy

Seriously, adorbs. I do miss her auburn hair though.

  • editrixie

what are those shoes I must have those shoes

    • MilaXX

They remind me of LeBunny Bleu shoes.

      • shirab

They remind me of the jazz shoes I wore in jazz dance class circa 1984. But mine were white.

        • MilaXX

I’ve had my eye on a pair with tassels.

  • StellaZafella

Adurble! That’s what I call my dogs so that’s for the Golden…Emma’s pretty damn cute, too!.

  • lexilexi

    She’s okay, but the dog… that’s adorbs

    • porcupie

And she’s a rescue dog! So cute.

  • Sobaika

And you have just convinced me to give the Spiderman reboot a shot.

    • MilaXX

      It really wasn’t half bad.

      • Sobaika

This might be blasphemous to say, but I was sort of superhero-ed out when it first hit theaters. But a good movie is a good movie, and I like Emma Stone a lot.

    • SassieCassy

if tlo didnt convince you then that blue blazer might have

  • MilaXX

I hope the hat is because the movie is set in the Fall because knit hats in the summer like this make my head seat in sympathy.

  • hughman

Those shoes seriously give me Early 80s Disco Seizures. NOT THAT I HAD ANY LIKE THAT. IN WHITE. NOT ME.

  • carnush

I want that jacket. And that dog.

  • RebeccaKW

I love those shoes. Unfortunately, I wear a size 10, so any pointy shoe like that is out for me. I look like I’m wearing canoes on my feet.

  • out for a walk

The important question here is, will the dog be in the movie? Because it should.

  • uprightcitizen

And she looks like she’s keeping her cool so well … probably not the easiest thing to do in a wool jacket and knit cap in May in NYC. The obviously empty purse really bugs. I sure wish the detail people in films would put actual stuff in a woman’s purse when they’re in a movie. The empty purse (or the one with only a cell phone and say, a gun, in it) is just the kind of thing that kind of sharply reminds you that you’re watching a movie and kind of ruins the illusion. Sort of like someone giving out their phone number as “555” …

    • Caitlin

I will say that I own a Cambridge Satchel Co. bag, and they are incredibly structured, bordering on annoyingly stiff. So unless you stuff it to overflowing, it will always look like it’s empty.

      • ToniMacAttack

How long have you had yours? Mine got noticeably softer and less “stiff and empty looking” with time.

        • Caitlin

Over two years, but it is from their neon collection, so I don’t use it as an everyday bag. It is so bright, definitely requires the correct outfit. It has gotten better as I’ve used it, though.

  • susan6

Yes, Emma Stone is adorbs (although I prefer her as a redhead). I also like the silver fox walkie-talkie’d umbrella-wrangler.

  • filmcricket

There are humans in these pictures? Because all I’m seeing is the dog.

    • conniemd

Golden retrievers are always more adorbs than even the cutest celebrity walkers. I know, because I’m on my second (6 months old) and they always get petted, admired, etc. when you go out with them. And trust me, they know how to pose to get the maximum adoration.

      • Googling is telling me the dog is a Golden Retriever mix – I’m seeing some irish setter in there too (along with the adorable Golden qualities), which are also beautifully photogenic dogs.

  • ToniMacAttack

I looooove the Cambridge Satchel Co. I have two of them — one 15 inch in yellow and one 13 inch in blue metallic. I always get compliments on them and random people asking me where I bought them.

    • swiss_miss

I am thinking about buying one for soooo long- I just haven’t done it because I can’t decide on a colour and I feel like I can’t afford more than one. Somebody mentioned that they are quite stiff, do you think that they are too stiff or just right?

      • ToniMacAttack

They definitely start out stiff. But I think that’s just what happens with very structured leather bags like these. My yellow one I’ve had for almost two years is really soft now but holding it’s shape. My blue one is still a bit stiff, it’s newer. So yeah, it starts out stiff but as you use it it gets softer and aged-looking and awesome. I really recommend them. My favorite grad school to ad school accessory.

        • swiss_miss

          thanks 🙂

  • crash1212

I want those shoes – also if the man to her right in the first picture could bring them to me, that would be great.

    • barbarienne

He’s also in the last pic. Very pleasant to look at, but I note a wedding ring. Looking only!

  • Ann VerWiebe

Costumers who do really good modern dress work rarely get the credit they deserve. It’s almost more difficult to work inside a world the viewers inhabit on a daily basis.

  • BITCH I STILL WANT THAT DAMN JACKET. Er-hem sorry. (For explanation, see Katie Holmes on Jan 18 and Marion Cotillard on Apr 12). But seriously, it’s paining me a little to keep seeing it because I want it so, and it’s so far beyond my budget. ALAS.

I like the idea of Gwen Stacy as a girl who wears a beanie. Girl had flair for headpieces, it only makes sense to update it from the black headband.

Emma, tiger, you hit the jackpot (with this role).

  • barbarienne

    Love the lavender shoes!

I’m interested in knowing more about striped-shirt guy. Bit of a silver-haired fox, yes?

  • alyce1213

She looks fabulous. I agree about Emma being a super girl in a superhero movie — that she is.
And I’d put Margot Kidder right up there as well.

    • alyce1213

      Howdy, cowardly downtick stalker/troll.

  • Sheneve Butler

Does she get to keep the clothes?

  • Julie Chase

WHY IS SHE SO CUTE?! I want to brush her hair and drink margaritas with her.

  • Anniebet

That is so damned adorable. Makes me want to do a happy dance and take her to the dog park. Emma’s pretty darned sweet looking too.

  • NOLA_gal

So cute! But come on, Uncles, fess up, it’s really the dog that’s adorbs, right…?

  • NYCGlamourpuss

OMG, just ridiculously unbelievably fucking cute from head to toe, AND she has a dog with her? Is she just trying to slay everyone on earth with her adorableness? Because the whole look is fabulous enough – she didn’t have to bring a dog into it! That’s just kicking us mediocre bitches while we’re down.

    • StellaZafella

I have a feeling that “mediocre” is not an adjective likely to be connected to you, NYCG…
now, as for “bitch”…well, come sit next to me, first round’s on my tab.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Aww, love – you’re the sweetest! And the same goes right back to you, you amazing creature you! Xo!

  • MzzPants

Yeah, yeah, Emma’s cute..blahblahblah… But, to quote you TLo, look at that WoogieWoo! He’s back and he’s so fluffy and adorable and loveable and I will keep him and call him ‘George’.

  • decormaven

Such a natural, unaffected look. Love that satchel!

  • That dog is so like “bored now.”

  • gsk241

I love that she’s carrying a purse that normal humans can afford. I may have to have one.

  • frannyprof

I have an irrational pet peeve: when prop purses/satchels/backpacks look like they obviously don’t have anything in them. Can’t a low-level minion be deployed to stuff said props with tissue paper or something to give them shape and heft?

    • Gwyndall

      That’s bugging me too!

      • frannyprof

Glad I’m not the only one!

  • elizabethann1

When was this? Her hat looks crazy-pants when its 90 degrees here.

  • 3boysful

In the pics where she’s looking up, it makes me want either (1) for her to throw her hat in the air a la Mary Tyler Moore; or (2) to sing the That Girl song.

    • dashransome

      Ah – yes!

  • majorbedhead

I covet that bag. Actually, I think I could even afford to buy that bag. Under $200? Yes, please.

  • Airkisses

Blue and green! Blue and green! Cheating and/or emotional disconnect!

Wait, what? You’re saying that only applies to Mad Men posts? Oh, alright then.

  • Louise Bryan

She is totally cute in her outfit, but I’m afraid I only have eyes for the dog. Who’s a pretty puppy dog?

  • All she needs to do now is throw her hat up in the air and sing, “Who can turn the world on with her smiiiiiiillle…”

  • snarkykitten

So is she just posing with the dog…?

  • Emily

That is the same dog her boyfriend was walking a couple weeks ago. Is it in the movie or is it actually their dog? Or both?

    • bellafigura1

The dog looks very worried! Distracting me from the clothes!

  • Tonight I will dream that I am Emma’s room mate. I will borrow her blue Chloe jacket under the auspices that I am ‘just using it for one night and promise not to order anything with red sauce.’ Then I will keep procrastinating about returnig it to her (‘It’s at the cleaners. I’m so thoughtful’) while I secretly wear it every night till I am sick of it or it’s frayed at the cuffs.

  • pattycap11

  • kimiakay

Oh that jacket! I’ll take the jacket, and the dog, too.

  • stephbellard

Want the bag, want the jacket, want the dog. Hell I even want that perfect red chair!

  • TheAmericaness

They use the word moxie in “The Sting”. I know because it’s the first time I heard it as a kid and remember asking my dad what it meant and he explained it to me. Weird thing to remember.

    Cute outfit. Moxie.

  • whats that guy doing to her feet? cute shoes.
