Oh Sally Sparrow, you look so sad and old; it must be that ugly dress; it would depress me too….

    • gabbilevy

Maybe an angel sent her back 10 years.

  • CarolinLA

She looks so unhappy in photos lately. Is she channeling Daisy? UPDATE: I think she’s just read the reviews for the film…

  • That one safety-pin-like piece of hardware, at this party with this theme, just makes me laugh.
Also, if this is the most warpaint she can muster for a punk themed party, I’m fed up with her.
And her hair just says office.

    • MsOlympia

Agreed. I’m thinking the punk theme wasn’t in her wheelhouse. She looks like she tried, but couldn’t execute.

    • SewingSiren

The theme of the exhibit is Punk : Chaos to Couture. In other words they aren’t celebrating actual punk clothing, but the way that punk music and clothing has inspired and influenced couture and high end pret-a-port designers over the course of years.

      • I know. I just think the one safety-pin looks funny in its singularity. Aside from Hailee Steinfeld’s masterful dress, it’s pretty much the only one despite myriad designs that have nodded to that use of hardware in punk.
Plus, I think this dress deserved more zhuzhing than office-hair and cat-eyes with nude everything else. That’s just bad styling, PLUS it failed the theme of the venue.

        • Spicytomato1

I thought the single safety pin was funny, too. In fact I’d assumed she (or her stylist) added it as a very overt nod to the theme but then I see the model’s version has it so it was clearly part of the entire concept. Which makes me feel a little better for some reason.

  • Barbora

Pretty. Also, her hair looks more healthy and shiny.

  • It’s a little bit aging. She seems to be very into her new Tilda phase

  • Jecca2244

I adore her. and she played a great Daisy Buchanan.

  • shelley514

I like the dress except not on her. And she always has a simpleton look on her face. irritating.

    • It doesn’t seem “simpleton” to me, but her expressions almost always read as deer-in-headlights, or frightened, or uncomfortable.

  • clatie

These shoes, while pretty, look especially painful. Cannot approve.

    • MoHub

My toes curled involuntarily at the sight of those shoes.

  • Lesley

i actually like this dress, and i think she looks great in it but it it would have done the dress a little more justice on someone a little bit taller. she’s been keeping her makeup extremely minimal lately, and she has a beautiful face to pull it off but she should have went with bolder makeup esp. for the event

  • Those shoes are horrifying.

  • Julie

It’s a beautiful look. Love how the lines in the shoes call back to the angles in the dress.

  • aeb1986

    LOVE this!! She looks incredible

  • It seems she (or her gays) doesn’t put effort on her face at all.

    • Hetha Innis

She needs a new make-up team. She’s always so underdone and it comes across as her looking sad and dowdy.

  • SewingSiren

This is a very good example of a punk inspiredpret-a-port look.

  • alyce1213

Those shoes are cruel devices of torture and I can’t even look at them.

  • Introspective

she seems to believe that the no makeup makeup is the way to go. the bottle blond hair and the disappearing lips and the pale skin creates a whole lotta whiteout around the head/face. which doesnt always work.

this dress could have been a start toward the punk theme, but needed more hardware, different shoes and different face.

whatever, so many attendees purposely missed the punk memo that its time for us BKs to stop trying to understand their inspiration.

  • I LOVE this dress. I think the shoes are KILLA, and her hair and makeup look TONS better (though still not perfect) than they have been lately. This is a time when cutouts on the side of a dress aren’t the work of the devil. I think the dress is really flattering on her, and with just a little bit of edge. The giant safety pin looks like an afterthought, though, even on the runway version. This hairstyle is so much better than the severe pulled-back looks that she’s been wearing, but her hair COLOR is wrong. It’s too.. yellow. And I like that she paired a bolder eye with a simple lip, but I think a pinkish lip would have served her better than the face-matching nude.

  • Not too punk, but this is PERFECTION. LOVE.

  • This is lovely…. please tell me who those shoes are by!!!!

  • i guess her feet in those high heels are extremely uncomfortable.

  • lbl

This is the most effective of the pieces she’s been wearing in recent weeks. And while it looks nice, it’s a bit underwhelming for this event.

  • alyce1213

They shot the film a year and a half ago, so I’m guessing she’s over it. She has been looking wistful lately or she just doesn’t like to smile (just barely). Tight, pursed lips are not the best RC look for anyone.

    • j_anson

It’s like she’s decided to never show the world her teeth again or something.

  • I’m loving this a lot. That Balenciaga is perfect for her. And I like her hair for this. To use an outdated term, its kicky looking.

  • Sara

She’s like the blonde Rooney Mara to me.

  • kayleymaybe

She looks like she knew that she couldn’t top her dress from last year, so she just didn’t even try…

  • She looks like the kid from the grudge

  • 3boysful

I think it’s an optical illusion, but the bodice looks large on her, which is weird considering how much skin the cutouts reveal. I think you have to be tall and long-waisted to pull off those cutouts.

  • Is that a hotel room door sliding lock on her collarbone??

Stop showing us these boring, non-punk dresses. Some of the ladies really brought the crazy, though not always punk. Miley Cyrus said, “Punk equals fishnets, so I will be one with fishnets. I will BE The Fishnet of All Time!” The Olsen twins, Linda Evangelista, Rosie Huntington Whitely, Paloma Faith, these people all need help! And that pic of Chelsea Clinton, I thought was her mother.

  • She annoys me. Also, I’m surprised she didn’t get a custom/couture outfit out of any of the houses seeing as she has a huge movie coming out this year.

  • lilibetp

    I like the shoes.

  • Boring.

  • Odd, but it does at least have a safety pin. More punk than most.

  • MilaXX

Love her face, but the styling took all of the edge out of this. On the model I see the punk influences. On Carey? Not so much

  • Imasewsure

I love the top part of the dress but I would have preferred a full length (maybe even a flow-y skirt). I happen to love her face and hair so no complaints from me about this. It’s not awful, it’s just another missed opportunity at a potentially fun event

  • Melanie

I love this hair on her, but for the love of God, would a colored lip kill her?

  • I love the dress, the hair, the make up and even the shoes but had she worn the shoes on the model that would have felt slightly punk.

  • decormaven

The shoes were the wrong choice here. Something fierce would have elevated this look. Not sure about the style, but something much edgier than these. The narrow straps on the shoes don’t balance well with the strong geometry of the dress’s elements.

  • MzzPants

Sweetie, you need a nap. And you need to leave these things to Rooney Mara.

  • LaSylphide

Does she ever look like she’s enjoying herself? She looks bored, so she looks boring. What’s with the arms always straight at her sides? This woman needs some serious lessons from Solange Knowles on how to WERQ a look.

  • Shoes are interesting.

  • formerlyAnon

I love this as a very daring (bare back and sides) ladies-who-lunch dress. Which leads me to wonder at what occasion it would fit perfectly. Slightly arty cocktail party?

  • She never opens her mouth anymore. I can’t decide if she had her teeth knocked out or if she’s afraid of being featured on on celebrities with out teeth.

  • If only she or Emma Watson had changed up the black for a nice union jack-inspired gown. The English should be owning punk.

  • She always looks like she wants to cry. Sad pale little girl.

  • Victoria Anzalone

  • When does she star in the Twiggy biopic?

  • She is not quite 28 years old, but she looks older in this outfit/hair/makeup. I find that hair color incredibly unflattering to her skin tone also. So sad.

  • crash1212

Must confess, she’s rapidly becoming an Irrational Hate for me. Nothing can be THAT sad…right? This sad, pale girl with horrible hair is getting really OLD. Also, I hate that dress. The shoes are….interesting?

  • Darlings, I *must* have those shoes! Please spill. xo

  • nannypoo

This is a woman who needs to practice her picture face in the mirror before she goes out.

  • demidaemon

Her hair looks much better here. That is the sum of my praise.

Hate the dress. The shoes look like she put them on sideways. And she should have gone balls to the wall on the make up. She looks a bit underdone.

  • bluefish

I actually quite like the dress, love the shoes, and am happy to see her hair looking SO much better. One of my favorite looks of the night.

  • conniemd

This woman totally bores me. She’s like the wallflower I wouldn’t like to have a drink with as she’d make me fall asleep.

  • quiltrx

She looks fine, I guess, but sadly underdone and missing the point of the event. You don’t go to the Met Gala to look like “Sexy Convention Center Hostess.”

  • I may be alone, but I j’adore this! Finally her hair and makeup seem like time was put into it. Her fresh face here is great! And that dress is the closest thing to punk we’ve seen since Christina Ricci’s dress… Just Saying… 🙂

  • She must have just read the reviews for “Gatsby.”

  • Feet of pain. Face of sad. ‘Do of boring.

  • TLJezebel

I think she found her conditioner because her hair doesn’t look so fried.
    Still hate the color.

  • akprincess72

Will someone please give this young lady a tube of colored lipstick? The lip just fades to nothing & having it more defined would be flattering.

  • pattycap11

nice dress but the look really ages her and whites her out. she looks like a dame something or another. odd.

  • Um…..I like her hair?

  • tereliz

Love the dress, glad she went with stronger eye makeup, where are her lips, I hate her shoes.

  • did she break a tooth or something?? geez

  • judybrowni

Someone get that girl on anti-depressants, STAT!

  • altermyego

Her hair looks beautiful but what a wasted opportunity! You’ve got a pixie cut and the theme is punk…did you run out of gel to spike it in every direction? Look at some old pics of Laurie Anderson.

Love the dress and would like to see on someone else. Some bitch needs to steal her look.

  • bitterk

Fierce punk dress, why so sad?

  • kathrineb

I can’t help liking this. Not sure why, but it looks so…I guess…. sharp.

  • Why on earth does she want to look ten years older than she actually is? Hair and makeup? No, No, No!

  • Aurumgirl

I know the cut outs are supposed to give it a sexy edge but she really looks old in this outfit. Maybe it’s the hair colour, which does nothing for her.
