Audrey Tautou Cannes Double Shot

Posted on May 28, 2013

Miss Audrey serves up the gamine thing and nails it both times.

Audrey Tautou attends the premiere of ‘Venus in Fur’ during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a Lanvin dress.

Love it. Although we will say this: those shoes somehow make the whole thing go a little “flamenco dancer.”  We think the hem length is pretty much demanding a more delicate shoe than that. And we think either a color or a metallic was called for here. Still; love the dress.

But not as much as we love this one:

Audrey Tautou attends the Palme D’Or Winners Photocall during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a Prada gown.

Serving up late sixties Audrey realness. LOVE. This would look downright silly on a lot of ladies, but somehow the simplicity of the dress looks insanely chic on her. We never got the impression she was all that much of a fashionista, but when she keeps things simple, she can hang with the best of them.

    Double WERQ

  • Jilli_Beans

That second dress is what every Project Runway contestant thinks their dress looks like — she looks great.

  • Pepper Collins

I like both dresses, but the first looks like two bed skirts sewn together and the front of the second looks like an apron.
But somehow, I still like them both…

    • JosephLamour

I feel the first one feels like the texture of party streamers.

  • MK03

Putting a full skirt on the Prada dress really helps to take it away from “boob apron.”

    • I was about to say – Miuccia was really in love with boob darts in this collection, no?

  • Oooh la la.

  • homofascist

I hated that detail on the chest of the Prada dress when Anne wore it at the Oscars, but something about this works better for me. Maybe because it isn’t light pink? It still isn’t my favorite detail but she looks so cute I can’t be too mad. Maybe I’ll watch Amelie tonight and dream about being in Paris…

    • l_c_ann

We watched Amelie last night and today just seems dull, even though our sun is bright and my roses are in full bloom.

    • RebeccaKW

I think it’s the placement of the darts on this dress-it works better with the bodice. In addition to a better color (as in, the light pink was NOT AH’s color), a better skirt, etc.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Finally! Her first attempt at Cannes left me underwhelmed, but THIS is just chic as hell

  • sagecreek

    Jeez, does she never age?

  • frannyprof

That last one is a WERQ

  • Nyltiak

COVET that Prada dress. Too bad I have nowhere to wear it, and it probably costs about 4 months’ rent.

  • Qitkat

I’m curious as to what the back looks like, but this ribbon detail makes a huge difference with the *side boob* issue. lol, I mistyped *slide boob*, don’t want to see that. I actually prefer the Lanvin, although it has a bit of *witchy* vibe about it.

    • bd73

what you call “witchy” i call moorish

  • AnniNoone

How is she still that fucking young? Was she 12 when she made *Amelie*?

    • Donna Tabor

      She’s French.

      • marishka1

Maybe her evening regime is to splash cool water on her face, just like her mother.

        • TheAmericaness

That made me chortle. *chortle* -see?

  • lundibleu

Love the second one. See, Nicole Kidman, this is how you do a backless dress.

  • marlie

I’m not a huge fan of the Lanvin gown. It looks a size too big, and I don’t like the way the length and volume of the skirt make her legs look.

J’ADORE the Prada gown, though. Just gorgeous!

  • nannypoo

She always looks fresh and beautiful. That red dress is spectacular.

  • MilaXX

First look, I think a metalic shoe would have been better, 2nd look. I completely love. She’s making a tit seam look good.

  • Joyce VG

    Oooh major crush on her….

  • rloliveira

    Stunningly beautiful.

  • procrastinatrice

Both dresses are giving me life, but the second look is something special. And she knows.

  • E. D.

Second one is a WERQ. I wish my hair was thin enough to pull that haircut off. Unfortunately, I have photographic proof I’d really end up with a blond Afro helmet.

  • CT14

    Se looks great.

The second dress is how Morena Baccarin should dress!

  • MsALVA

OMG I love those shoes on that first dress. Agree that maybe they’re not perfect for that dress but holy crap they’re gorgeous.

  • kirkyo

She achieved both smoking hot AND totally adorable. That red is one of the best looks of the year, I think.

  • Joey Melliza

the boob separation on the first dress was a bit focus pulling

  • shirab

Love her hair! I would totally cut my hair short if my stylist could promise me it would always look just like this.

  • Andrew Schroeder

Lovely lady! I actually really like that black dress – very New Look.

  • bd73

::gratitude:: the red dress is amazing! she just seems so young no matter how much time passes. the black is nice, but i liked the icy blue full-length she wore on day one to open the ceremonies better. she was just… tinkerbell!

  • amanda lynn

Love both dresses, and Love the hair.

  • She’s allowed to be something other than gamine?

  • siriuslover

and it doesn’t hurt that she’s being photographed at golden light when everything is more beautiful!

  • SewingSiren

Both looks suit her to a T.

  • kimiakay

The black dress is very interesting to me. The way the top almost puffs out around each boob looks a little strange, but I don’t know how else they’d have done it. I like the dress, but not sure about black for her. The red, on the other hand, is perfection. I’ve always loved her hair, and flawless complexion with those dimples.

    • The black dress is giving me “Halloween cupcake” vibes. Something about the pleating in the fabric and the stiffness of it just reminds me of a “couture cupcake” all the moms are making these days. (side note – why do we need couture cupcakes? Can’t they just taste good and have awesome frosting on top? They need not be sculptures for a baby’s first birthday party. Besides – fondant is gross anyway…)

  • Anniebet

Absolutely great. Both. She’s had longer hair over the years, but this is the look we associate with her. Too cute for words.

  • BrooklynBomber

Oh, the red is fabulous! I used to have a Cacharel dress (not gown) that looked sort of like that (the bodice) but I sure never looked like that in it. The Lanvin is cool, but it doesn’t seem quite her; I think someone with more height could better handle all that rufflage. Love the shoes, though.

    • DuBey2

Yes, especially about the black shoes. I think they HELPED the cupcake dress. Love them. But more height would be great. wonder when there will be surgery to add height? The next big thing?

      • BrooklynBomber

I’ll be first in line for that procedure.

  • demidaemon

I prefer the second one completely. The first one looks like three black cupcake liners sewn together. Not appealing at all.

  • PeaceBang

Fashion redemption!! I was so worried! The last few appearances were so grim, and this is just delicious. I can’t love the second look enough! Exclamation point!

  • LOVE THAT GOWN!!! And that hair style is perfect for her as well. That is a hairstyle that I have always wished I could pull off but I don’t have the right bone structure for it. Luckily for her, she does.

  • The second look is utter perfection, but the Lanvin really isn’t working for me. Too many tiers and next thing you know you’re a cupcake liner.

  • GillianHolroyd

    Oh that Prada is gooooooorgeous.

  • decormaven

Flove! And her hair- that’s the way to make short hair sing.

  • hac51

*picks up phone to make appointment for pixie cut, realizes lack of gamine face, hangs up phone and weeps bitterly*

The black reminds me of the look Winona Ryder had a couple of weeks ago, but here it is done correctly. She looks cute and fresh and still age-appropriate.

    • EdithP

I would love to wear my hair like that, but my face is not gamine in the least. Weeps.

    • I try to wear my hair like that, only it doesn’t look like that.

*must work harder on styling extra short hair*

  • omg_dora

She’s a pretty pretty princess!! What a great gown. I love the red and the pink together (or is it two pinks?). I wish the bodice weren’t so stiff and the darts not so pointy. I realize that’s part of the concept but it’s just not as pretty as the rest of the dress.

  • MoHub

And to think I grew up being told that one should never wear red and pink together!

  • thecitysleeps

She’s so French and fantabulous. I love the Prada so much.

  • JP

Perfection. And I love the shoe — I had an instant case of shoe lust when I saw them.

  • She’s beautiful and stunning!

  • miagain

oh that red dress… it leaves me breathless…. sigh….

  • carnush

Beautiful. I think the second look would have been better sans the earrings, but still really lovely.

  • Chuck Barthelme

Yowza. Perfect on both counts. And one of the few lady stars who looks great with the pixie cut.

  • Double WERQ indeed. I love her hair.

  • Sara L.

Her hair, I love her hair so much. And that second gown is amazing, what a great color for her. I am not so sure about the first one, it looks good from some angles, and awkward in others.

  • MarissaLG

I really love them both. The second one is surprising but is so chic and sexy. It reminds me of what Anne Hathaway wishes she wore for the Oscars.

  • formerlyAnon

I think these two average out to a WERQ. Or at least, a “werq.”

  • LadyLuck777

Now why can’t Morena Baccharin dress like this?

  • Diego!

WERQ two times! I disagree with you guys, her shoes (on the black dress that is) are amazing! She looks stuning!

  • Carla_Charlton

    Wish I had her hair…

  • Lilyana_F

    She’s so damn cute!

  • melanie0866

love love love, especially the second one

  • I want my hair to do that in the worst way. THE WORST WAY.

  • oohsparkley!

I love both dresses, especially the shape of the Lanvin. The colors of the Prada are what make it special.

  • guest2visits

I so love those black shoes – and wow they actually look like they fit her feet too. There may have been other styles of black shoe that would have been a touch better… but those just look so good on her. I have a problem with the black dress itself; somehow it almost looks overpowering, I don’t know if it needs to be shorter or longer… the proportion is a tiny off for me. The Prada gown is stunning on her. Adorable close-ups.

I don’t really know who this woman is, but she is the cuteness.
