Aaron Yoo at the CW Upfronts

Posted on May 17, 2013

Haven’t the slightest clue who this guy is but he’s cute and we liked his look. Sausage Friday can’t just be guys in suits or guys in jeans, after all. We’d all get bored quickly.

Aaron Yoo attends the CW 2013 Upfront in New York City.

Now, we don’t know if we’d go so far as to say this look is red-carpet-ready, but then again, the CW upfronts aren’t exactly the Directors Guild Awards. But it’s cool and it suits him perfectly. You need to be tall and thin to pull off length like that in your shirts and jackets. We really dig that sort of dejallaba-light hoodie he’s got there, and we love it paired with that long jacket. The whole look’s got a 21stC, multi-culti vibe that’s refreshing, because most male stars are wallowing in western masculinity tropes – all broad shoulders and manliness.

Having said that, we’d like it more if it was just a bit more polished a look. And someone needs to tell him to stop acting like the class clown on school picture day on the red carpet.

He is adorable, and this is probably his first time at anything big, so I’ll let whipping out the iPhone slide.

  • crash1212

    A shirt-hoody hybrid. Shoody?

  • Carrieanno

Not exactly the direction I would have hoped Sausage Friday would be heading.

  • He’s quirky cute. And I sort of love that he’s having fun on the red carpet, though now that the novelty is over, I agree with TLo that he can start acting a bit more mature.

    • MilaXX

As long as he doesn’t do this ever RC, I’m okay with it.

  • everest19

Now this is the kind of look I think could be classified as “fashionable” for men – it breaks conventions and moves fashion forward.

I, for one, am so sick of menswear being a competition for who can make the best banker’s suits. Lets leave those “western masculinity tropes” in the 80’s where they belong!

  • random_poster

Looks like he’s having fun with the look and the paps. He might as well keep it light while he’s still allowed.

  • Think he was Shia’s friend in Disturbia. And yes, I hate myself for having seen Disturbia.

    • He was also the awesome friend/band mate in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. So adorable. I like him better with a little more hair on his head and his frame a little more filled out, but he is a cutie pie regardless.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

That’s him?! Loved him in that!

      • (A week later…)

He was also Brian McBrian in the second Traveling Pants flick. He’s got abs for days, and the internet seems to be withholding those pictures. It is tragic for all of us.

        • (Minutes later)
          Dick move, internet.

          • I mean, seriously. Isn’t that what the internet is FOR?

I might have to get out my DVD and take a shitty screenshot and make the internetworld a better place.

    • Sobaika

I saw that too… and didn’t hate it. Quelle horreur.

  • Rand Ortega

    Shoody wouldy couldy?

  • julnyes

He is cute and that hoodie / shirt thing is cool.

Also have no idea who he is, perhaps he will be appearing on a new CW show? Which means I will continue to not know who he is.

  • Pennymac

No criticisms here. He looks just delighted to be there, and I find that endearing. Any clue as to who he is? I’m too lazy to Google….

  • hughman

“Most Fun at a Party” is a great look here. He and Robert Downey Jr. can both come sit by me.

  • Barbara Woodruff

Even after I looked him up I still don’t know who he is. What’s the male equivalent of a starlet? He is cute though and seems like he’s having fun. And I like his outfit.

  • Nariya

Cool. I love that you guys featured this. Maybe a different shoe, though, instead of a plain ol’ semi-shiny black leather dress shoe? To serve as a counterpoint to the shoody thing?

  • MilaXX

In one of the new CW shows The Tomorrow People, another one of those shows about young, pretty people. They have “powers” from what I gather. Sounds like Heroes, or Alphas, but on CW.

    • He’s yummy looking! Maybe I’ll tune it. CW programming though… hrm. Maybe not.

      • MilaXX

When you watch CW just don’t get your hopes up for serious programming. I’ve had a nice time watching Arrow that way.

        • ItsDicey

          Yeah, Arrow is mindless fun.

    • Horribly dating myself here, but The Tomorrow People was originally a British children’s TV series from the 70s which I TOTALLY loved. Had no idea they were remaking it.

      • MilaXX

I remember hearing about it, but I don’t think I ever watched it. I may see if I can find old eps online somewhere.

  • Meg0GayGuys6

While I can appreciate the 21stC, multi-culti vibe, my loins still go for broad shoulders and manliness. And loins win

  • He’s cute! I like this outfit. Too bad my boyfriend can’t pull it off – he’s short and broad (not out of shape or anything, just, broad)- a brick house, mighty mighty.
I like it when lanky guys find cool looks that don’t make them look like string beans or 12 year olds.
Now I need to dig up who this guy is.

  • He definitely stands out in that look. It’s not polished, but it’s not reminiscent of the captain of the DoucheCanoe, either. I like it!

  • Anniebet

Aww, he’s cute. Thanks, uncles, for giving us someone new.

  • YAY!!!
    Asian is the new black!!!

  • This makes me want to check his Instagram and look for the “Pappin’ the paps” pic that must be there.

  • nannypoo

I love his outfit but I think he might be the only person in the world who can wear it. He seems to be having fun and I like that too.

  • j_anson

Super-cute look that 95% of guys couldn’t pull off.

  • I like this! He’s cute, and the outfit doesn’t look ridiculous, which it should.

  • He looks like he’s having fun! I wish guys here dressed more daringly, I love that coat and hoodie combo!

  • Chris

He was so cute in Nick And Nora’s Infinite Playlist and this outfit, for once, doesn’t look like the same suit every other male actor is wearing, I am giving him two thumbs up.

  • he’s like an asian theon greyjoy. don’t take winterfell, theon!

  • StrandedFashionista

It’s a bit Yohji Yamamoto, all things considered.

    • ItsDicey

Yes, just a wee bit. I adore YY.

  • quiltrx

    LOVE the jacket!

  • JMEL

Dejaballa is my word of the day. I promise to use it in a sentence this week. Thank you, TLo Intl, for nourishing logophiles around the globe.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I am sorry. It’s because I am old. But I HATE IT that is is wearing a hoody under what appears to be a nice jacket. It’s time to put me on the ice floe now. Because I can’t go with this at all. Not at all.

  • drdarke

Aaron Yoo’s on THE TOMORROW PEOPLE reboot the CW’s doing – along with Stephen Amell’s cousin, Robbie.

  • formerlyAnon

Ooohhh very, very cute indeed! I really, really like the jacket + dejeballa look on him, as you note he’s built for it. For reasons that escape me, I wish the “hoodie” portion had the hood without the dangling ties. But ’tis a quibble.

P.s. I am enjoying the heck out of the new Friday theme. Thanks!

  • ItsDicey

Cute as hell, and at least he’s having fun. I’m assuming he’s a nubie, so he gets a pass on the corny, geeky posing.
