Zoe Saldana in Givenchy

Posted on April 15, 2013

We’ll give her all the credit in the world for coming as close as humanly possible to making this work but … no, honey. Just no.

Zoe Saldana attends the 2013 MTV Movie Awards in a Givenchy dress paired with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Nancy Gonzalez clutch, and Emily Faith and Graziela jewelry.

Granted, pairing it with a top that looks like something you wear under your ski clothes isn’t exactly how we’d have taken things, but then again, we’d never have let her wear that skirt in the first place. And if she insisted on it, we’d “accidentally” set it on fire.

Yet another in a thousand-item list of why we’ll never be celebrity stylists. We just care too much, darlings.

judging by her expression in the first picture, someone got fired for putting her in that outfit

  • stubbornthoughts

It looks like the moths got to the skirt before Zoe did. She’s way too gorgeous for this kind of monstrosity.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Zoe honey, if you’re that pissed off about it, don’t get out of the limo. It’s just the MTV movie awards, no one gives a fuck, I promise.

    • MilaXX

She had an on stage appearance to intro a clip of new Trek movie

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Oh my, that’s awkward. Ok, I stand corrected. Someone on Team Saldana needs to have their head promptly removed from their neck.

  • MarissaLG

It may be ugly, but the top wicks away sweat to keep you cool and dry while you run!

    • judybrowni

Whereas the top the model’s wearing would have your sweat flinging out in droplets on all and sundry.

Zoe’s choice of top is somewhat less heinous.

    • H2olovngrl

Really? And here I was thinking it was to prevent chafing and rashing while surfing!

  • jetpackdino

TLo, if you guys can’t or won’t be celebrity stylists, I am in a state of grief. Please tell me you will reconsider this at some point. Just… take a moment… think it over.

Because Zoe is in a Chico’s traveler collection top. And a Givenchy skirt that makes me certain the apocalypse is now.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

But how would they chose? Who would be worthy of their styling talents? Do they take on an A lister and roll with the cream of the crop? Or do they take a young starlet or two under their wings and turn them into divine creatures? Really, it just wouldn’t be fair, best they stay here and amuse us all with their spot on critiques and gold standard humor.

      • jetpackdino

Hand-to-hand combat. Seems like the only fair way to choose.

      • DeborahJozayt

I think the clients would be laughing so hard around T&Lo all the time, they’d split all the borrowed clothes.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

The skirt is an abomination before the Lord, and whoever designed that monstrosity will be cursed, yea, even unto the 7th generation

    • KayEmWhy

      ROFLMFAO!

    • zenobar

Mmmm-hm. (slow, somber church-lady nods of assent)

    • MissAmynae

      sing it honey!

    • PastryGoddess

      Preach!
Should I start talking in tongues?

      • drdarke

I think I just did, @PastryGoddess:disqus – you are welcome to join me, if you like….

I have to stop looking at those pictures now – that…is horrible.

    • drdarke

KEY-Hrist Jay-Zus! For-GIVE That Poor girl her transgressions, that have put her into what Brother @kiltdntiltd:disqus rightly calls “An Abomination” of a skirt!

    • maggiemaybe

      Amen!

    • julnyes

Amen and pass the collection plate…. to buy Sister Zoe a new skirt.

    • rottenkitty

Thank you! This. No one could work something this hideous. It should be burned and the earth salted where its remains are laid to rest. Gah.

  • crash1212

FUG. That skirt is offensive on every level and paired with that top? Oh lord – SO bad. Only good thing about this get up is the shoes, which you can’t even see. Also, nice lipstick.

    • http://twitter.com/herong Heron

And yet, and yet I am almost convinced!!! Because she is Zoe. And her mere presence inside a garment will make me double check my own fug-dar.

  • kmk05

    …at least it looks comfortable?

  • clatie

her facial expression is decidedly pre-barf. she must have realized what she was wearing.

  • Sara__B

    Nice shoes.

  • http://twitter.com/ThisMersLife ThisMeredithianLife

i LOVE the model’s outfit! so fun, textural, interesting on a bright, uncomplicated pretty face.

  • ralish

That’s too funny– I was just thinking that top looks like the one I wore the other day… to hike up a mountain! Geez. Mine cost $30 and no one saw it but the wildlife.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It totally looks like thermal underwear. Why, oh why wear something this heavy and wintry-looking in mid-April?

      • Little_Olive

Remember our dear celebs wore the spring/summer collections during the winter, so now they ran out. They are so ahead of the time, they don’t even need to dress season-appropriately.

        • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Silly me. I forgot that celebrities are immune to the seasons. :P

  • MilaXX

    The dog ate my skirt

  • http://www.facebook.com/rocki.rhodes Rocki Rhodes

She’s so annoying! Someone should slap her and her stylist with a thick September Issue of Italian Vogue.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

That skirt is being consumed by The Nothing from the Neverending Story in fabric form.
ETA: Disqus is acting super wonky lately, huh.

    • DeborahJozayt

I’m starting to reach a point where I just don’t comment as much anymore because of disqus. I keep getting new notifications from old replies that were made months ago. I no longer refresh comments to see what everyone is saying. I’m made complaints to disqus, but no one responds or even sends something to say “We hear you.” I kinda wish T&Lo would just find a new platform :( I totally get your frustration!

      • Gorg

Have you tried contacting the disqus twitter account? Granted, it’s been awhile, but I’ve found them to be responsive there. That said, I feel your pain. I really dislike disqus. I know why it’s popular but in my experience it’s only detracted from any site that uses it.

        • DeborahJozayt

I will definitely give that a shot, because I don’t just want to whine and then sit on my hands. Maybe they will patch some of this in the near future, but this is really bothersome. it’s not like all the changes they made were to make tablet users happier at the expense of non-tablet users. Some changes hurt both markets equally.

      • Little_Olive

We should sign a collective petition, because really, disqus people. Why fix it if it ain’t broke? Comments disappear and when you try to load more you go back up on the page; you get old notifications; you cannot know who liked your comment, and so on.

I made a comment about this the other day (on the Mad Style post I think) so I didn’t want to insist because I think uncles T and Lo are well aware and sufficiently aggravated by this :( So consider this just a reply of support to you, not a new complaint.

  • Mlzx

I’m honestly way more offended by that top. At least the skirt is trying to be something interesting and missing the mark. The shirt is so ugly, boring, unflattering, and incongruous that I almost appreciate the skirt just for not being running shorts.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

At least she’s not wearing the sweater that the model is wearing.

    • schadenfreudelicious

      or the wig….

  • Little_Olive

And the slit is on the “other” side! I’m all for recycling your wardrobe, but this is too much.

  • another_laura

Oh for the love of god. NO!!!

  • http://twitter.com/carelessriver Caterina Maria

The skirt already looks like it’s been set on fire!

    • Lori

I was thinking more bitten by a lace shark, but fire could also explain it.

  • newtonGOTbeaned

At least her lipstick is nice?

  • Anniebet

Model’s shoes/boots are pretty darned striking. Which cannot be said for anything Ms. Zoe is wearing, and she appears to be aware of that.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She looks totally buzzed…which explains the outfit completely.

  • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

At least she looks better than the model.
    But it’s still ugly.

  • zenobar

    Serving up Cuddl-Duds realness.

  • Trisha26

What a horrible combo. But for this event she really should have duplicated the runway look.

  • nannypoo

I wonder why she chose to wear this. She looks like she is wondering the same thing.

  • TheAmericaness

I can’t tell which is the disease: the 80′s polka dots or the 80′s floral print.

    • formerlyAnon

Floral print. In another context the polka dots might be a great fabric. The print will always be reminiscent of bedspreads of a certain era.

  • P M

The bitchface she’s giving says ‘One word, you bitches, just one word, and you’ll be sorry’

  • MRC210

Why bother to wear a darling pair of shoes with a fugly skirt that completely hides them?

  • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Hubert needs to get his derrière back into the atelier and show them what GIVENCHY was all about!

  • ankali

You know, I can live with a Givenchy skirt looking ugly. But I WILL NOT STAND for a Givenchy skirt looking cheap. My Congresswoman will be hearing about this, I assure you.

  • PastryGoddess

Thank you! When I saw this on another site all I thought was 1. scrolldown fug and 2. Uncles T and Lo need to have a little chat with La Saldana

  • H2olovngrl

My first thought was “rash guard”

  • http://twitter.com/Sinead_Doyle Sinéad Doyle

Ooh, finally I have something I can bond with Zoe Saldana over, we both have the same Uniqlo thermal top!

  • demidaemon

    Sad Zoe. :(

  • drdarke

Okay, this is a general question: Did somebody break out The Fugly Stick since I was on this morning? I do not think I’ve seen such a run of truly AWFUL outfits on this page in – well, since PROJECT RUNWAY had a full complement of drama queens designers….

  • decormaven

Off to gather kindling to burn that skirt. Let’s remove all traces of it and never speak of it again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

“And if she insisted on it, we’d “accidentally” set it on fire.”

You know, if you ever came to visit me, the song playing in the background would be “Burning Down the House”!

  • Call me Bee

Well–where else to wear the weirdest skirt ever? MTV Movie Awards of course! I think she looks fierce, though she seems to be pissed off about the whole thing.

  • Diego!

I’m sorry guys but I disagree. She has the body and is rocking it, she is lacking attitude tough. :P

  • http://twitter.com/Mylynka Mylynka

the fact that her hip bone is jutting out past her boobs is freaking me out.

  • Snailstsichr

It looks like she had an accident removing her 70s wallpaper. The black lace I can’t explain. It is just weird.

  • http://roxyturtle.tumblr.com/ roxyturtle

I cannot lie, I love this. She is rocking it! I love the sleek top.

  • marilyn

Would purple hair and a brown sweater covered with buttons help? Well, maybe not. The runway model looks worse than she does.

  • barbarienne

“I dressed in the dark in whatever my hands found in the closet first.”

At least she turned on the lights to do her hair an makeup.

  • guest2visits

I thought this would be a pretty cool look (for MTV) if the skirt retained the high slit but lost the giant lace insert.

  • librarygrrl64

WTF is going on with that skirt?!? *shudder*
