WERQ: Olga Kurylenko in Balmain

Posted on April 08, 2013

Back-to-Back WERQs, darlings! But we just had to, because with this one dress, Miss Olga has become our new style crush and is bestowed  her Master’s in Dress Wearing from T Lo Style University:

Olga Kurylenko attends the premiere of ‘Oblivion’ in Taipei, Taiwan in a Balmain dress paired with Jimmy Choo sandals.

Balmain Pre-Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Manon Leloup (MARILYN)

Jimmy Choo ‘Lance’ Sandal

Now that’s what a movie star looks like. Granted, she’s not quite a movie star, but half the work of becoming a movie star is making sure you look like one. This is bold, eye-catching, different, and perfectly suited to her looks. You WERQ that “LOOK AT ME, FUCKERS” dress, girl! Triple snaps of RESPECT.

    Legs for days! Jealous!

  • teensmom99

Being able to pull off this dress takes her into doctorate territory.

  • Diego!

  • Tatiana Luján

She has a great attitude and and she is gorgeous, but I hate the dress.
The dress is too stiff, it looks like a Project Runway dress from an unconventional materials challenge.
Besides, the dress is too short.

    • Pannyx

That’s exactly what I was thinking. PR unconventional challenge overkill.

    • I totally agree! I think it’s unflattering in the bust area as well, she has some flattened pancake action going on.

    • I totally agree! I think it’s unflattering in the bust area as well, she has some flattened pancake action going on.

    • shelley514

      You nailed it. Thank you.

  • tereliz

Eeep! I love the drama of a good Balmain! She looks fab!

  • Eh, I don’t know. I think that dress is wearing her — it’s so costumey you can barely notice her face.

  • Interestingly enough, this dress is from the same summer collection as Princess Leia’s bikini.

  • I feel like I just got a glimpse into our distant future and I’m impressed.

  • charlotte

It does look like her head is…stuck.

  • AndresB

She’s been milking her shot at (Non-!)Oblivion for all its worth, and while it might be argued that she throws in everything including the kitchen sink, this is fabulous indeed.
I find the Brigitte Helm ‘Metropolis’ robot neck of the dress disturbing on the frosty model – thanks to Kurylenko’s sheer enjoyment of the poledancing, which is anything but robotic, there’s a perfect contrast to the rigid style, an attitude which elevates the dress.

  • Beverly Kozma

It looks like she has little trees on her head!

  • stubbornthoughts

She looks stunning! But I hope she brought some sweats to slip over for when she sits down post-red carpet.

  • Lauren Frankel

Playing it to the locations of each of her premieres. Attagirl.

  • gabbilevy

Before you think to yourself, “too costume-y,” consider: Sci-fi movie premiere in Taiwan.

  • Robin Krug

A dress with this much geometry going on would look better with softer hair. In that first picture all I can see are neck tendons and a forehead vein. The skirt is too short — it looks like the Balmain model is wearing this “dress” as a tunic. To me, the entire look sneaks a sandalled toe into Tackyland.

    • Cathy S

I agree almost completely. Softer hair would be good plus I love the fringe earrings the model is wearing and thing something like that would have been cool. She should have worn it as a tunic too–it’s way too short. But I don’t think it’s full on into Tackyland just yet. She looks more classy than that, I think.

      But it’s close.

  • So pretty. I love Balmain. I think I might have preferred a stronger, sleek bootie rather than the sandals though. That dress is so short it could use a heavier shoe for balance.

  • snarkykitten

    that is some battle dress

  • formerlyAnon

I’d prefer softer hair, and it can’t be said she looks entirely comfortable. But it is impressive and gets the WERQ for event (& location) appropriate.

  • j_anson

Hmm, I dunno. It’s an interesting dress, but it’s kind of stiff and awkward, and the hair seems unnecessarily severe in a way that is less “sleek” and more “I didn’t know what to do with this so I pulled it as far back as I could.” It looks amazing on the model, and less so on the starlet.

    • alyce1213

And she forgot to wear her pants.

      • drdarke

If I had her legs, @alyce1213:disqus ? I’d show them off every chance I got, too….

  • MzzPants

That’s a ‘standing only’ dress if I ever saw one.

  • werika

Wish Xena had kicked ass in this dress.

  • rosie5215

The thing I like best about these pics, and the shots from all of the premiers for this film is the fact that she a) looks like a movie star and b) looks like a movie star who is happy to be a movie star opening her movie! I’m so sick of young starlets being grumpy, mailing it in style-wise, or both – do they not realize that a year or two from now, chances are nobody will remember who they are?

    • CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT!!! So glad you arrived! So easily said from an armchair…

      • rosie5215

Erm, WTF are you talking about?

        • Young people = not much experience = not very wise = oh my goodness! stardom WAS harder than I thought! I should have listened to mom = Captain Hindsight! – so this actress looks like she’s having a good time. Cool. She could also be puking her guts out every night after eating.

Armchair talk = Easy to talk when you’re not having to do it yourself. 🙂

          • Uh.. armchair talk is kind of the whole point to this site.

    • I’m with you rosie5215! If they are going to take my movie-night-money, I want them to be happy about it!

  • Pants_are_a_must

She looks like a shrine for her own awesome.

And I hope she wore underwear.

    • alyce1213

I think she looks like a Russian Orthodox religious icon.
And Pants are ABSOLUTELY a must here.

  • MilaXX

WOW! That is a lotta look for such a little dress and I must say she is wearing it well.

  • sleepycat

way to stiff for me. I understand she is at a sci-fi movie premiere, but it just doesn’t work.

  • Stunning dress! I’m glad she doesn’t have to share the spotlight with Tommy Boy very much. She’s much better on her own.

  • It doesn’t look like Balmain thought this was a dress.

  • laurenoodle

What is with the massive Sweet’n Low advertisement?

    • Coco Cornejo

Revenue for TLo, darling. The dears have to eat like everyone else.

    • alyce1213

That stuff is REALLY BAD for you and should not be encouraged.

  • I’m having a hard time getting past my ‘wow that’s short’ reaction.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

  • alyce1213

Iccch. This has to be a COSTUME for the upcoming remake of “The March of the Wooden Soldiers.” It’s overdone, overworked, way too short, and absolutely hideous for the red carpet. WERQ? Far from it, more like a joke.

  • Sci-fi, futuristic and GORGEOUS. Love this!

  • jencapture

Though I enjoy the overall look, it is a bit reminiscent of a gilded cockroach carapace…

  • filmcricket

Hmm. It’s a great “dress” and her legs look fabulous, and as others have said, it’s nice to see someone so obviously happy to be on the RC. But it feels a skosh too short, and not in a pearl-clutching, “cover yourself Missy!” way. When the sleeves almost meet the hem, the proportions feel off. I think I would prefer this with short sleeves, or a couple more inches on the bottom. Darker shoes (or even a rich red pedicure) might have helped balance the look a bit.

  • warnerave

as i have said, she is the new fan bing bing “)

  • I can’t even decide if I like it or not because all I can think when I look at it, is that the girl looks like she’s been skinned by Buffalo Bill. :_(

  • Kari Garcia

I know I am probably crazy for thinking this, but it just reminds me of that Bodies exhibit. I think if it was a different color it would not squick me out so much.

  • understateddiva

sick! Love. Can only use one word-sentences. Respect.

  • Imasewsure

I’d prefer it as a tunic and with softer hair but the fact that she did neither is what makes this a WERQ. You go ROBOGirl!!

  • I only see a stiff dress and not Olga
    It could have been anyone.

  • Hmm….oddly I like the dark hose on model better…sort of grounds it and takes it out of the totally Start Trek orbit! HATE the shoes…to bright a gold…LAZY stylist!

  • ankali

Mag-fucking-nificent. She looks unreal in all the best ways.

  • guest2visits

I know she’s gorgeous, I know it’s appropriate for the venue, I can see her fans are loving it, but…
I was disappointed by the scroll-down. I think the dress is too short and I would like to have seen
this dramatic fabric to the knee, and different shoes. Or boots. Or super short and over pants, like the model.
I love how she is enjoying the moment, though.

  • MissAnnieRN

Love this! Best part: how much fun she appears to be having.

But what in the name of photoshop is happening in that pic of the model?! Good god. Her head is floating!

    • Noelle Haland

Ha! I looked more closely, and you’re right – her head DOES look separate from her neck. It’s a funny optical illusion, though, due to those dangly earrings and not due to Photoshop, I think. 😉

  • Contralto

Why is that girl wearing an end table?

  • Jackie4g

I like the dress and she looks fabulous. Now, when are exposed zippers going to be over?

    • sisterb67

      Not soon enough.

  • BuffaloBarbara

I know my head shouldn’t go there, but there’s an artist on deviantart who did evening wear based on the Avengers costumes, this looks just like the Iron Man dress. (Which is not bad. All the dresses were actually kind of adorbs. But I’m sure it’s not what she was going for.)

  • Carly Warnock

    This reminds me of C3PO.

  • CommentsByKatie

I adore the dress, but I hate the thin sandals and the hair/jewelry. I get that the dress is very busy, but to go SO simple on the hair/accessories gives the impression that she took a shower, put her hair up, and slapped the dress on. Classic ‘dress is wearing her.’ I think the model looks far better.

  • I like it. I like it a lot. I have no clue how she sat down, but I don’t mean that as a criticism, just mere curiosity. Nice to see something different.

  • nannypoo

It’s a fabulous dress and she has the body for it, but I think it’s too short. It seems unbalanced. It needs more length or pants.

  • It’s too much. And from the back it looks like it’s made of cockroach shell. Kinda gave me the heebie-jeebies.

  • I really love this dress and think it would fit right in with the Game of Thrones costumes if you layered a skirt underneath. Gorgeous sci-fi fantasy looking armor.

And she has some beautiful legs going on there. But it is her delight in being at the premiere that takes her into goddess territory.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

What’s with the Sweet’n Low? Hope you’re reaping a fortune from it because it’s sure ugly!

  • Anniebet

Definitely 2 to 3 inches too short. And, someone’s stylist should have realized those shoes are so freaking cliche now. A slightly darker shoe would have been nice – she doesn’t have to do the whole nude shoe thing to make her legs look longer.

She, though, is a fantasy princess. Never heard of her before this round of premieres but wowser, she’s got our attention now.

  • AmeliaEve

Perfectly suited to the occasion. She looks amazing. But that exposed zipper makes me sad. That’s how we know the future isn’t quite here yet.

  • MoHub

    Don’t bend over, Olga!

In other words, this needs to be just a tad longer.

  • disqus_sZRDWtvvVD

Risky! I’m very surprised at how comfortable she looks in that stiff sci-fi extremely short dress. She is working it!
I’d also like to see how it would look with black hose and black boots.

  • carnush

this is stunning. she has the legs for it.

  • FancyPhilly

Love it, and though I know she is wearing it in Taipei (where it was in the teens Celsius), I do wish she had worn dark tights on the bottom. I love the look of this “dress” though I think we should size it up and send it off to Brienne so she can have some fancy “night armor” for her time with Jamie Lannister.

  • Looks like she borrowed that garment right off Tyrion Lannister’s back. But she’s doing a great job of pulling it off.

  • shanteUstay

The dress could earn a werq on a man, it’s THAT sensational! looooooove!

  • As long as she doesn’t sit down, because that is not a dress, that is a shirt.

    Also, too robotic for me.

  • ldarras103

Looks like C3PO got a makeover.

  • Trisha26

Considering that the “dress” is actually a top, it’s stunning.

  • wow, this is truly amazing.
if i were a sword-&-sorcery-based drag queen, and also super rich, id be wearing that.

  • WOW. She is so fucking hot. I want to bang the shit out of her (boyfriend).

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

True – only because it’s a sci fi movie premiere. But I still hate it.

  • I saw Olga in person at this event, and when she stepped out onto the red carpet, three little girls (roughly varying 7 to 10 in age) let out a collective “Wow” at the sight of her.

  • Is that … architectural leather? It looks kind of like trussed meat. I’m afraid of this dress, I mean.

  • Kikishua

She looks like a fabulous ornate cabinet.

  • MilaXX

Just saw screening. Movie surprisingly good.

  • Love it. TLo, you’re right as usual.
