WERQ: Jennifer Lawrence in David Koma

Posted on April 22, 2013

We might quibble with some of the details, but she looks pretty damn hot here:

Jennifer Lawrence attends the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, California in a David Koma black sheer panel dress paired with Nicholas Kirkwood heels and David Webb jewelry.

It’s somehow strong and girly at the same time, with a little bit of sexy woven in. We may not love the shoes, but you are WERQing this frock so well that we have no choice but to snap, girl. Nicely done. Love your head.

I guess so? The sheer panel seems really distracting.

  • Peeve

Yep, she looks hot. Love the short hair.

  • A.W.

Oh no, I completely disagree! The proportions of that garment don’t flatter her at all. Not liking the dirty hair either…

    • Adriana_Paula

I’m kinda with you on this.

      • DCSheehan

Me too. Such a shame because otherwise she looks stunning.

    • Jennifer Coleman

Serious scrolldown issues. I wouldn’t say fug, but it lost its punch with that skirt. I wish it was a sheath. Face and shoulders are fab, tho.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

    <——– unabashed fangirl

  • Vickiefantastico

I read somewhere today that when she came in and told her hairstylist she wanted to cut off her hair, he responded with “are we allowed?” This made me sad. Are starlets really that controlled, right down to the length of their hair? Or am I reading something into nothing?

I have to agree with the WERQ, though. My fellow Kentucky gal looks great!

    • Chartreusite

depending on if she was already filming something or getting ready to film a role the production wants long hair for it totally makes sense. I have friends in small college plays who arent allowed to mess around with their hair until the shows all good and done.

      • Vickiefantastico

That seems better, less controlling, I guess. I hope that’s the case.

        • Chartreusite

I hope so too. That’s me being optimistic, she could be in a situation where her agent/publicist thinks that long hair IS the look for her or that’s the way that gets her business and it’s entirely an image thing, but I like to give the benefit of the doubt :)

          • frederieke

I think they just finished reshoots for the second hunger games thing so the hairstylist probably wanted to double check that there wouldn’t be more.

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Yeah, she’s headed toward the third movie in a trilogy, so they might want consistency. It’s a cute cut, though!

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Meh. Whenever I’ve cut a lot off my hair the hairdresser has said the same sort of thing. I think it’s more about reverence for long hair, bloody Little Women “Jo, your one beauty” crap than it is a starlet being controlled.

      • mountainFashionista

I love that line! It’s so unintentionally bitchy :-)

  • Tatiana Luján

This is the black swan of her Oscars dress.

  • Sobaika

LOVING that hair and her attitude. The dress though, especially the lower half, isn’t that good for her imho.

  • Janet B

I’m not sure about her hair, but I’m sure about those shoes – not pretty.

  • MK03

    LUV. HUH.

  • crash1212

Love the new hair and make-up is killer. That’s a difficult dress, but I think she’s pulling it off quite well.

  • another_laura

Don’t like that lip and I really don’t like those shoes. I do like that dress.

    • rumcg66

I don’t like the lip either, at all.

  • http://profiles.google.com/phyllis.craine Phyllis Craine

    Did she cut herself shaving?

  • http://twitter.com/kerryev kerryev

She looks great but that dress is all kinds of weird.

  • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

    I’m sorry, I disagree.
I hate the sleeves with the sheer things and she looks like she hasn’t slept in days.
The tiny lines of the dress on the front make the appeareance of a bigger belly than she has.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=811053804 Stacy Parker Cole

Love the hair. Jennifer Aniston take note!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=621425764 Heather Smith

    Hmmm…..
I don’t love the sheer chest panel.
And I continue to be bothered by the people who mess with her makeup (like they’ve never tackled a hooded eyelid before….sigh).
AND — her hair looked a lot better when it was blasted “fluffiness” immediately post-cut (her stylist popped a pic on Instagram that made it look fabulous). Here, it looks weighed down……and awkward, that place it’s hitting at her shoulder….

  • mountainFashionista

I LOVE her, but always think her red carpet smile looks weird and fake.

I used to think it was a makeup problem (because she’s so beautiful in Winter’s Bone and The Hunger Games) but in these photos, I realized it’s actually her face.

However, this actually makes me like her more, because she’s, like, a real person who just happens to have this job that requires red carpet smiling. Stars! They’re just like us!

  • Pants_are_a_must

Those shoes are doing their best to ruin the line of legs that are already hindered by the awkward length of the dress. I’m not overly fond of this look, head to toe.

  • Nicholas

Look up her presentation with Harvey Weinstein (“Harvey Weinstein and Jennifer Lawrence present at the #glaadawards” on YouTube). Absolutely adorkable.

  • Beardslee

Don’t like the scoopy neckline detail but the mother in me just loves this girl and her sweet young smile….I know that’s not the effect she was going for, but I can’t help it.

  • Stubenville

I hate everything about this dress; the sheer, the odd length sleeve, the potholder ruching texture, the flouncy edge. Hideous.

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

    Love her.

  • http://twitter.com/mcterzakis Marianna

At least her shoes aren’t nude or tan.

  • clevergirl70

Huh. I took one look at it and thought, “lampshade.” Then I looked closer, and thought, “umpire’s vest, converted into lampshade.”

…and so, my first disagreement with Saints T and Lo. What next??

    • Louise Bryan

Lampshade was the word that came to mind for me, too. The whole thing looks stiff and odd.

      • barbarienne

I don’t know if it’s the dress, or that she still doesn’t have clue one how to pose. I think it looks much better in pic #5, where she looks relaxed and not as if she’s trying too hard.

      • http://twitter.com/vintagesewing Vtg Fashion Library

Looks like the lampshade is breaking into pieces, and cutting her body into several different pieces. Awful.

    • Little_Olive

I thought taxi driver’s seat cover, but umpire’s vest is right on.

  • TheAmericaness

That is one awkward looking dress, no matter how hot she is. It looks like when she takes it off, she’ll breathe and pee at the same time.

    • http://twitter.com/herong Heron

BEST. I’m going to start saying this all the time.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=14301272 Kate Gorton

      HAHAHA. perfection.

  • alyce1213

    Love her, love the haircut.
I’m on the fence about the dress. There are things I like and dislike about it – it’s not a dress that’s easy to wear.
I think she needs some more color on her lips.

    But, gorgeous.

  • stubbornthoughts

Short hair agrees with her! Loving this WERQ selection.

  • nannypoo

It’s a very strange dress but I like it. I also like that she doesn’t do the Igottapee pose. She never seems exactly comfortable in these appearances but she seems to do it her own way. I notice she has an owie on her leg – touch football I bet.

    • AViewer44

Yes, I loved that–a scrape or a bug bite. It just adds to the WERQ IMO!

  • http://twitter.com/MEGalasso Meg Galasso

I just don’t get it. She is an uber human, and I still don’t understand what this is doing to her figure.

  • aeb1986

she looks amazing!! WERQ for sure

  • princessricky

wow i can’t believe i’m saying this, but i actually like the deployment of sheer panels in this case! very sexy without being gross!

    • 3boysful

yes, but . . . how does one put it on without putting a fingernail thru it somewhere, a la pantyhose?

      • princessricky

tsk 3boysful. do you actually think the gods dress themselves?? surely such a menial chore is reserved for us mere mortals ;)

    • AmeliaEve

I agree. The sheer works with the rest of the dress instead of trying to disappear. And it plays with the other textural contrasts in the varying sizes of ribbed and smooth fabric. She is a sci-fi star in a sci-fi dress. Grrrl power!

  • StellaZafella

KStew (and other “edgy starlings”) take note…she looks everything you ever tried…with a bath.

  • http://twitter.com/omg_dora Dora K.

I just got hit on the head by the 1980s. Ow.

    Stupid and tacky dress.

  • Imasewsure

Would have liked a straight skirt more (but then I always do). She’s lovely here but I actually prefer her with a lot less war paint.

  • MilaXX

Love the look, adore the haircut.

  • fashionzombie

Love it, totally agree with the WERQ.

  • mmc2315

As I was scrolling down, I was hoping for a long straight column, to the floor. I’m not sure I love the skirt. Love her head, too.

  • CCAdams

She can be such an attractive lady star. This is not a flattering outfit for her in my opinion. Frankly I doubt it would flatter anyone.

The old Production Code modesty scrim would have looked out of date in the 1930s when Joe Breen was the censor.

Her hair is not tidy and her outfit seems dressy enough it needs neatly styled hair.

Does anyone care for such nude lip color on a woman older than puberty? With a black dress?

  • jetpackdino

She is so beautiful. Major WERQ here. Wow.

  • lbl

I am so surprised by this WERQ. I can’t process it. I just can’t.

  • BobStPaul

Just can’t get on board with that dress. It’s doing something weird to her figure and making her legs look disproportionately small compared to the rest of her. Hair’s okay but I’m not crazy about the makeup either.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I saw this photo earlier and thought, “Werq!” I feel like I aced a test or something!

  • Snailstsichr

She looks better sans lipstick than about anyone else. And that’s a beautiful Cheryl Tiegs smile three from the bottom.

  • trisker

WERQ???? Double blood pressure cuffs! The bodice looks like SWAT team wear, and the skirt looks like a circular rag rug died black and gathered. I love JLaw, but this dress wears her.

    • http://twitter.com/ThisMersLife ThisMeredithianLife

Double snaps to your comment! The lines (that neckline and the shoe strap) make her look STOCKY, which SHE of all women, is anything but! And her hair – I’m so sad :(

  • http://twitter.com/Iona_Watson Iona Watson

Does she have a shaving nick below her knee?

  • PastryGoddess

Can someone please get a drag queen to teach her how to pose. I like to outfit…not WERQ worthy but still cute

  • Mrs. Teasdale

That head has some Kristy McNichol realness.

  • Trisha26

She looks like something in Vegas but I’m not sure what. Casino “employee?” (wink wink nudge nudge) Desperate cocktail hostess? Wannabe call girl? Just all kinds of no to me.

  • Anniebet

Love the little boo boo on her leg. It says “hey, I’m a real person”. She looks great, the dress I find to be fresh and flattering. The odd skirt adds a quirk factor which doesn’t bother me.

  • Patricia Gillett

Ice dancey. Tanith Belbin wants her dress back.

  • formerlyAnon

I don’t love the proportions of this dress, but I have to admit that she looks pretty good. She can look better.

  • bitts

I have hooded eyes like hers — I would love a tutorial from her makeup artist for how to get a smoky eye that reads on camera! It looks great and I can never get mine to look like that!!

  • bellafigura1

Dress should be shorter or longer, but damn, yep, great head.

  • Nikko Viquiera

    meh

  • sado

She is so over rated, and who cares…….next

  • capybara_cafe

NO. It looks like she’s been outlined with a sharpie, and the weird panels in the middle, combined with the ruffle skirt, make her body look disproportionate and odd. Anti-werq.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Everything except the panel on the shoulders! She’s a healthy beauty!

  • mightbewrong

Whoa, you had me until that awful drop-waisted…thing. That’s a scrolldown fug for me.

  • conniemd

I’m mixed on this. I like the black netting, does look sexy, and the first picture until I saw the quilting in the closer ups. Like someone else mentioned, All I could think of was baseball umpire protective vest and there is NOTHING sexy about that.

  • http://profiles.google.com/claudiaberry Claudia Berry

It’s the same silhouette as her Oscar’s dress, strapless and fitted to the hips, then flaring out. Didn’t like it at the Oscar’s and don’t like it here.

  • Haley Buchanan

You know, I think J-law is hot roughly 98% of the time… but I am NOT feeling it here. The shape is odd. I find the skirt to be especially unflattering. Sorry T and Lo. Jennifer, no worries, I still have a mad girl crush on you!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Murphy.J.Colin Colin Murphy

The sillhouette is bulky, the makeup is unpleasant to me, (she exudes miss piggy in the 3rd pic), and she appears to be very awkward/uncomfortable with this look (the smile, the posing) definitely not owning it. I’m confused how this got a werq. 2 of my 3 biggest complaints of the look, were perceived as the 2 biggest strengths in your eyes. So odd

    • Little_Olive

Ding ding ding!!! Miss Piggy makeup absolutely. Those eyes are NOT her friends.

And the shoes? With that hemline? Sorry, not a WERK from me.

  • PeaceBang

Yikes. I hate it all, head to toe. She looks like a Russian hooker. This dress is disastrous on her and I hate the make-up with a passion.

  • lizlemonglasses

    Errrr– no.

  • finnishmaria

I can only wonder if she fell, tripped, and got a scab on under her left knee going up the stairs of some other major awards show…

I love her though. But that spot on her leg looks painful.

  • BrooklynBomber

I don’t like this dress from the waist down, but the shoulder treatment is disturbingly sexy.

  • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I’ve seen her look perfect. She’s a beautiful girl, but she doesn’t look great here. Her knees look weird. The length isn’t flattering. She looks like a football player. The top is cut in a very weird way. The flared skirt begins too low. It’s all wrong. She looks flustered.

  • frederieke

I can see it being an IN but def not a WERQ….Hate the hair, makeup, and shoes.

  • j_anson

I’m loving it from, like, the hips up. But I’m not sold on that sticky-out skirt.

  • jenuwefa

And so the first thing that catches my eye is her yucky hair….and then the scab on her knee…. :) I love Jennifer, but this is not a WERQ.

  • bd73

not flattering and she has a perfect hourglass figure. great haircut and makeup though.

  • gracedarling

I love her head too, but I really don’t love it here. This needs sleek hair, clean eyes, and bold lips. That is some Aniston drag right there.

  • ralish

    Arm bandages.

  • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

The hair reminds me of early eighties sitcoms. Not a good look.

  • brookemeghan

She is going to be a fabulous cougar one day.

  • Warrior89

I agree. Love it. Love the hair. She’s looking fabulous.

  • M. H. Leader

GORGEOUS!!! I happened to spot this look a little earlier today and it stopped me in my tracks. WERQ fer SURE, Katniss!

  • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Hmm, Alien-bug abdomen seems odd but my eyes are just saying, damn that’s a sexy futuristic dress yet still classy with the sheer panels..etc.

  • Martha Jones

Get rid of the flouncy bottom and make it more streamlined, then it would be perfect. But she does look pretty fantastic :)

  • Sara Brams-Miller

Yeah, I have to disagree completely. The nude lips look awful, and that dress looks ill-fitting.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Austen-Jane/100002245814326 Austen Jane

This is a WERQ? I feel like a kid that just found out Santa was a fraud.

  • lobsterlen

Take this WERQ back and give it to Kelly!

What the hell did she do to her knee?

  • christinewithanx

    Is her leg bleeding?!!?

  • myristica_fragrans

based on the illusion and the shape of the skirt, i thought this was by our dear friend stella. it’s really not so bad.

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

Hate the makeup, hate the proportions. She looks like she has two sets of hips; the ones in the slinky dress and the other ones in the poofy skirt.

  • poggi

I like it. She always looks a bit stiff and posey but that’s part of her charm.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571205045 Kent Roby

It’s a wacky dress (as Tim Gun would say “That’s alot of look”), but my love affair with JLaw continues, so I can do nothing but applaud her for wearing something so different. I do agree that a shoe in a fun color would help.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lromain Lindsey June Romain

I don’t necessarily love this dress, but I agree with the WERQ because it’s exactly the sort of thing J Law should be wearing – it’s not too fussy, it plays up her gorgeous body, it’s fun and it’s simple enough that her face and pretty new haircut are on full display. It just sort of works for her, you know? I wish she’d stop with the high-fashion Dior (even though I understand it’s a contractual obligation) and show this side of her a little more often.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Sassy! Pretty adorable for a Glaad event!

  • Qitkat

So David Koma says to himself: spandex, neoprene, sheer illusion. I’m brilliant!
    No you’re not ;p

  • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

I love you, girl. Don’t ever change.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

I’ve been waiting for this one TLo…thank goodness you gave it a WERQ ’cause otherwise, we’d have words! She looks simply fantastic.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Unlike her peers, who OVER-pose, Jen her needs a little mini-tutorial on posing on the red carpet. But she does look good.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=149100065 Virginia McMurdo

I love that even with heavily hooded eyelids she can pull off a good bit of dramatic eyeshadow. Definitely a WERQ in my book! The neckline reminds me of one of her awards dresses (was it the Oscars one?). Anyway. Pretty girl.

  • http://twitter.com/danielleRwest Danielle West

I actually love it, but girl needs some serious posing lessons.

  • Curious3D

her hair looks amazing and the makeup is perfect on her. Love this girl.

  • kathrineb

The hair is aging and not cute.

  • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

    6.0, 5.9, 5.9, 5.8, 6.0, 5.9, 5.9, 5.8, 6.0, and 2.6 from the French judge.

  • guest2visits

It’s proportions are screwed up with the ugly ruffled skirt. If only that part was sleek.. It looks pretty bad as is.

  • J Swanson

i love the fact that she’s out on the red carpet with a big ol’ cut on her left leg. didn’t even cover it up with makeup. that’s badass.
she looks hott and confident. fuck the haters.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1832126583 Mary Lauer

Love everything but the makeup. I am just not a fan of the smokey cat eye on her. She wears it not infrequently, but I just can’t get behind it.
