Selena Gomez Double Shot

Posted on April 15, 2013

It’s hard out there for a starlet, darlings. Miss Selena had a busy weekend of c-list awards shows to attend, but bless her attention-seeking heart, the gal put the effort in on some finely rendered image crafting.

First, for the event that (theoretically, because really … MTV)  will have hundreds of thousands of teen to college-age young men watching in pools of hormones, Miss Selena went the sexy-sex route.

Nothing particularly earth-shattering here, but it gets the job done and she gets to keep her dignity intact.

But when it came time to party with the gays, she switched over to full-on fruitfly mode, opting for diva pants, a crazy ass top, and taking the opportunity to fuck around with her makeup because she’s not getting laid that night:

Attagirl. Know your venue; know your crowd.

The fierce is strong in this one.

Who knew that the little Disney starlet would grow up to have such a command over style (or the insight to find a really good stylist)?

  • charlotte

I didn’t know Pocahontas and Linda Ronstadt were attending award shows.

  • werika

She is such a baby face, that half the time I feel like a perv looking at her in her short dresses and exposed legs.

    • JasmineAM

This. I’m only maybe 2 years older than her, but it squicks me out to see her look “sexy”. She could still play a 13-14 year old.

      • I am still seeing her on PBS Sprout in “Barney” reruns! I wish she wasn’t in such a hurry to fill the baby JLO void.

  • ralish

While I appreciate the change in style for each venue, I don’t think either of these looks do her any justice. The color, shape, and FRINGE of the first one (combined with the terrible hair) earn an OUT from me. (Not that you’re asking.) And in outfit number 2, the blacks don’t match and proportions seem off.

    • ankali

I don’t mind the first look, but I agree completely re: the second. Also, Peter Pilotto sucks. And those pants aren’t doing this gorgeous, perfectly formed girl any favors.

  • AndresB

Sorry, but would ‘her crowd’ really agree?
In outfit No. 1 she’s ready for a provincial ice skating tournament, in outfit No. 2 she’s ready for the laughs (it’s a very ugly top to begin with, but its waist is not meant to sit where it would sit if was a very ugly dress) – in the end, ‘her crowd’ might find both looks extremely un-cool.

  • She looks totally right on the money in each case. Hell, this is nearly a double WERQ.

    • alyce1213

I agree, fully acknowledging that she can get away with a lot that others can’t because she’s so young, stylish, tiny and adorable. She has guts. That second outfit could be a nightmare on someone else, but she’s WERQing it.

    • drdarke

Yeah – she’s selling both those outfits, even the Voltron top, @kiltdntiltd:disqus .

  • The first one is fine, but the color is wrong for her… it completely blends into her chest/shoulders (but not into her legs). The second one… It’s an interesting top, but at least she didn’t wear the pants from the runway. And I’m not against leather pants; I just don’t like THESE leather pants.

BUT, she definitely did well on the “know your venue” part.

    • gabbilevy

      Agreed , 100%.

Hair terrible in the first one, hair and makeup terrible in the second. I’m not seeing near-WERQ here at all.

  • Sara__B

I’m enjoying watching her learn how to work that baby face and grow into a more mature, but still youthful, style. Someday she could be as interesting to watch as Solange Knowles.

  • MilaXX

Nice looks, but her songs and performance at the show was cringe worthy.

    • Sobaika

Let’s join hands and thank our benefactors Tom and Lorenzo for not subjecting us to those images.

      • MilaXX

  • nannypoo

She looks like a Rockette in the first one. I love the top in the second one but something is not right about the pants.

  • LongTall_Sally

I don’t really care much for either look, but I do appreciate her ability to change up her style in an appropriate way.

  • jetpackdino

I think it’s time for a come-to-Jesus meeting with this Peter Pilotto individual. What we have here is a very, very lovely girl in some sort of advanced-level Gymboree garb in that second photo… Well in any case, she I bet she did get laid. Got a few numbers anyway. 🙂

  • hughman

Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and (allegedly) Talent.

    • alyce1213

I like her. She takes risks, occasionally misses a bit, but rarely if ever makes a complete ass of herself like so many others.

    • Sartorial_She

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn’t mean to come up with an utterly abhorrent acronym for this young woman.

      • m c

This is a reference to RuPaul’s Drag Race – it’s one of the tongue-in-cheek tag lines for the show. Ru tells the contestants they must have Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent to win. So, no, no one’s calling Selena a cunt.

        • hughman

Thanks mc. I figured this crowd would get it. 😉

          • m c

No problem. And although I don’t know much about this young lady, I find her to be kind of a BITCH (that is, a Being in Total Control of Herself ™ Latrice Royale).

          • hughman

Lol. I don’t know anything about her either. I was just going for the obvious Logo schtick. Hee hee.

  • Ugh, again the ugly Peter Pilotto Voltron-head top. I think I may have bought into it when Cate Blanchett wore it, but she’s a goddess. Selena, while cute, is a mere mortal who isn’t quite capable of making it work.

    • drdarke

Uhh – I don’t entirely agree, @twitter-102113798:disqus . I think her pairing it with the leather pants ups the “Cute-Kitschy” factor just enough to save it – though I’m thinking she might look more at home in a picture of Anthony Bourdain when he still smoked T-shirt as a sort of tunic top….

  • Fashion Padawan.

  • Tatiana Luján

I love the diva pants. I would wear them on a heartbeat.

  • conniemd

The Pilotto pants with that top on the model absolutely make my eyes bleed. The top could be found at Target, but at least is passable with the black leather pants.

  • MoHub

Heidi Klum wants her gold dress back.

    • TheAmericaness

I dunno. Is it short enough?

      • barbarienne

It may be short enough, but it doesn’t show enough of the boobs for Heidi.

  • dulcinea86

She also coordinates with the step-and-repeats! Gotta give her people some serious credit for that.

  • Imasewsure

More ugly Pilotto – not loving that look overall either but she still looks cute. Love the first dress and hair

  • Pamela Hunt

Did she braid that hair herself while wearing mittens? That’s one jacked-up, flyaway braid.

    • decormaven

      Pinterest braid.

  • maggiemaybe

I sure do hate that top she’s wearing.

  • crash1212

I love that first look – top to bottom (although I do covet the shoes the model is wearing); second look is fierce, but that top looks SO heavy with the beading and the no shape. Still – good effort.

  • bd73

look #2 is like BAM!!! work it, kiddo.

  • Little_Olive

None of them do it for me.

The first is a bit slutty (I want to burn those platforms) and I hate the fauxhawk braid.

The second is too many elements, not right for her coloring, wrong hair.

  • formerlyAnon

First look is fine, but does nothing special for her, at least in still shots.

The Peter Pilotto top is so aggressively shiny that it looks like cheap trendy mall clothes to me. The flat-ironed-look hair is not helping the cheap-stuff-from-the-mall impression. A pity, because those pants and shoes were a perfect blank canvas upon which to build.

  • Anniebet

I like the Choos in the first look because they aren’t the omnipresent strappy sandals.

    Second look is clunky.

  • She looks really 80’s on both. In a bad way.

  • Trisha26

Look 1: There should be a rule that if you can’t sit down without showing your nethers it’s not a dress! The entire look is also heading in to Kardashian territory.

Look 2: The Pilotto top is so busy it’s not remotely pretty and it has a peplum (shudder), I guess we should be glad she didn’t wear those “matching” pants.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

So, if I ever go on Project Runway, when the unconventional materials challenge rears its head, I’m loading up on ramen noodles and gold spray paint.

    • TheAmericaness

      lol – for which look?

  • AmeliaEve

The gold dress looks a lot better close up. I think the lights really wash it out. I bet it looks much better in a cozier setting.

The Peter Pilotto top makes no sense, but it’s bright and fun and IRONED — I appreciate how wrinkle-free she looks.

I think both of these looks are “almost” there, and both of them are essentially rookie mistakes.

  • My ONLY quibble- the hair in the 2nd look. Honey, pull that shit back. Man do I hate cocker spaniel hair. Or in this case, Afghan (the dog) hair. Too much going on up there.

  • lobsterlen

Rut Roh! JLo the younger Latina divas in waiting are nipping at your heels. J Lo is probably pissed she wore that gold dress.

  • Kristy Evans

I wish she had worn the Pilotto pants with a bright blue top, that would have been so much more fun.

  • Jessica O’Connell

“The fierce is strong with this one.” Oh you guys kill me. LOVE it!

  • tereliz

And THAT is how you wear a piece of Pilotto. Just fab.

  • Melanie

    That’s not a dress, it’s a figure skating outfit.

  • eight_of_nine

Wrap up a pair of those leather pants and send them to my apartment, please.

  • bellafigura1

Both, terrible. I wish Peter Pilotto would go away now. Even his runway model looks exhausted by the prints.
