Rita Ora covers the May 2013 issue of ELLE magazine in a Chanel couture dress photographed by James Whiteside and styled by Joe Zee.

Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture Collection/Model: Bette Franke (VIVA)

Valentino Spring 2013 Couture Collection/Model: Julia Nobis (ELITE)

Love every little bit of it. This bitch was born to wear couture. She naturally brings the drama good couture requires to work its best. That cover is serving up vintage Vogue realness to us. Joe Zee did it again, bless him. Look at how he made that Valentino dress sing on her.

Yes, we’re kind of rambling but ohmigod you guys look how PRETTY.

    Editorial WERQ!

  • Chartreusite

The best I’ve ever seen her look. Her eyebrows on the cover are giving me such life. Absolute style.

Joe Zee serving up Avedon with a side of demimonde realness.

  • tereliz

That Valentino! She really loves a fluttery, romantic dress, doesn’t she? She’s got the face and the poise for editorials like this so I hope to see her more often.

  • up with pod people

    she’s glorious.

    A CD couture papaya!

  • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

So much prettier when they tuck those brassy ends (no RuPaul lol) and throw some proper clothes on her. I don’t understand why her people want her to look like a knock off Rihanna- this is SO much more interesting.

    • Aurumgirl

I agree, she looks like she’s being styled so badly so often, it’s like they want her to fight her own innate elegance. She reminds me of the Marchesa Cassati here.

  • Sobaika

(Even if the Dior looks like a floral shower curtain.)

    • barbarienne

Totally shower curtain, but I can’t believe how much I love that crazy bubble butt! The angle of Ms. Rita’s body is perfect, making it look as if the dress is just hovering there around her.

      • judybrowni

I know this is crude, but the Dior shape reminds me of nothing so much as I’ve Taken a Dump in My Diaper Romper.

And yet, she even makes that dress look good!

    • Aurumgirl

Or the classic “Big Fig Newton!” costume from a series of commercials in the 70’s. Just more speckled.

      • barbarienne

Now I am totally earwormed! “Ooey gooey rich and chewy inside / Golden flaky tender cakey outside…”

  • jennifervney

Wow! What a face! Usually you can’t tell because it’s buried under 10 lbs of crappy make up and cray cray outfits.

  • beebee10

Agreed! ramble away, as this is pure gorgeous fashion.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

    Oh honey, you’re a model!

    • Introspective

lurv the satc reference. And this cover. Makes her seem like way more of a serious artist than Ive ever thought her to be…

  • MK03

I just can’t with that Dior dress. It looks like a day-camp project.

    • random_poster

Agreed. It’s truly awful. The rest of the spread is stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/ryenerman ryenerman

Seriously, it’s one of single the most unflattering pieces of clothing I’ve seen in a long time.

    • http://geekentertainment.tv irinaslutsky

maybe they made it for gaga

  • alyce1213

I have irrational (no so irrational) hate for her, but this is better.
I’ill never get it with her, but at least I can look at these pictures without getting queasy.
A testament to the genius that is Joe Zee.

    Speck-Effin’-Tacular!!!!! Sighing happily.

    • MissAmynae

with a side of jumpy claps!

  • Sarah

    WOW she cleans up GOOD.

I love Joe Zee because he found multiple headpieces to work with that giant ball of hair. And they’re all fabulous and quirky. LOVE.

  • keall

Love how the letter Ls of the masthead are caught up in her veil… (Sorry, can’t help it: typography nerd first, couture-gazer second…)

    • Coolekat

Good eye for detail. Love it.

  • SugarSnap108

The Dior dress puzzles me. But she looks gorgeous.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

I really love that Valentino dress. It’s sort of the effect Michelle was going for in her “sooty building” dress on PR I think.

  • MrsAtaxxia

This is stunning. Really a testament to what good styling can do and why its an honest to goodness SKILL. Girl is working the shit outta those dresses but the choices Joe Zee made were ones that wouldn’t seem perfect until you see it all together and you have a light-bulb-smashed-over-your-head moment.

  • Coolekat

When the subject photographs better than the runway models, well, it’s special.

  • susan6

Still have no clue who Rita Ora is (I take it she is a singer?), but the pictures and styling are fabulous; she’s very striking.

    • MilaXX

  • lamamu

    She gives good JLo face.

  • SewingSiren

Back in the 90’s Elle used to do the most beautiful covers, many featuring hats. This one ranks among those. She is stunning in all of these . My personal favorite being the Dior.

  • crash1212

    Exquisitely, fabulously beautiful.

  • MilaXX

She looks better than the model on every shot. Well done,

  • marilyn

The Chanel look would be great for someone who flunked out of rehab.

  • formerlyAnon

That cover? If I were connected to her in any professional or familial way, I’d beg, borrow or steal – or even buy – a portrait-sized print of the photo and frame it to hang on my wall. Since we are not connected, that would just be weird.

    • Celandine1

That cover is art. I would hang it anyway, the way people display fashion drawings.

  • Imasewsure

OK these are awesome. Love her again… just have to keep her in the mags and not on the RC

  • Rand Ortega

This is breathtaking. Rita has finally found her editorial. Kudos to everyone involved.

  • TheAmericaness

I can see Santino defending the shower curtain: “I think you’re supposed to pull the shower curtain aside and then close it, that’s what I think Nina!”

Overall: Gorgeous. Loved the cover. The last dress was little too: “Hi. Welcome to the afterlife” on the model, but Rita Werq’ed it.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

    She looks AH-MAZING here.

  • Anniebet

Pretty outrageously good. She’s not my cup of java in her usual red carpet/event looks, but here, oh my… so much to feast the eyes on. Gotta say though, that ladder nearly stole the show.

  • decormaven

    There you go! Excellent styling.

  • pulpytomato

I love it. She brings some personality to the pictures (which so few people do).

  • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Holy shit. She’s serving up some Sasha Fierce realness here.

  • gracedarling

Was it Joe Zee who cleaned up Nicki Minaj in a similar fashion? I wish we saw more Belle Époque in day-to-day life… So beautiful.

    • Anniebet

You mean… someone made Nicki Minaj into something other than a cartoon? Gasp!!

  • ankali

This is the first time I’ve ever appreciated how gorgeous she is. The clothes are stunning, her face is stunning, and — most importantly — they’ve successfully wrangled that so frequently awful, awful hair.

  • jetpackdino

Pretty pretty pretty. I love that cover. I would wear that Chanel any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

  • poggi

She’s very VERY good at this.

  • bellafigura1

The boots, mon dieu, the boots.

  • carnush

I hate the Dior dress, but she looks flawless in every shot.

  • mmc2315

    Color me impressed.

  • Town

She looks like Rihanna in that last picture of her.

  • ccm800

love the dior shot. LOVE IT

  • kathrineb

    Cover is gorgeous.
