Pairs Division: Moore and Moretz

Posted on April 19, 2013

Aw, how cute. They really do look like mother and daughter. We look forward to loving scenes between the two of them in the movie.

Julianne Moore and Chloë Moretz attend the ‘Carrie’ Photocall in Cancun, Mexico. Julianne is wearing a Dolce&Gabbana dress paired with Tabitha Simmons shoes. Chloë is wearing a Marni dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.

Brown Pineapple Printed Twill Dress. Christian Louboutin V Neck Pump. Tabitha Simmons Bailee Lace-Up Sandal.

Railing against remakes of classic movies is pretty much yelling into the wind at this point, but we can’t say we’re salivating over this one.  DePalma’s original was a perfect representation of seventies horror. We don’t  relish the idea of an update, but we suppose every generation deserves their own little psycho telekinetic and Sissy was getting a little long in the tooth to be a figurehead to anyone born after 1985. Fine. Go update Carrie. We’ll probably watch it when it’s on HBO and begrudgingly admit that these two were very good in their roles. But to love it more than the original? It is to laugh. Nothing will ever beat that excruciatingly long moment backstage, when Amy Irving figured out was about to happen. Give-you-chills film-making. And the hand? At the end? Genius.

Harrumph. Onward, and from the left:

SHE: Is, praise Jesus, NOT wearing something cracktastic and too complicated for her. Can it be that she’s finally learned her lesson and realized that just because you like a garment doesn’t mean you should wear it for pictures? The thing with Julianne is, she’s all head. If you’re Julianne Moore and you’re getting your picture taken, then you naturally rest the look on your beautiful features and striking head of hair. Which is why a simple white lace dress makes her look spectacular. Know your style strengths. Score: 8.5/10. We don’t much love the shoes.

SHE: Looks adorable. And she makes a nice counterpoint to Hailee and her catsuit today. It’s nice to see her relaxing a little on the style front and seeing the value in looking your age. After all, in 20 years, if she’s still on the scene, she sure as hell isn’t going to want anyone assuming she’s older than she is. All of this is working pretty perfectly on her; yes, even the silly putty shoes. Score: 9.5/10.

Combined Score: 9/10. Excellent work, ladies. We can’t see your dirty pillows.

      They’re called breasts, mama!

        HA!

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

        And everyone has them.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

They both look great, though I think I might have switched their shoes. And stop with the duck face.

      • http://dorothydamage.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

I think that is actually just her face.

      • MartyBellerMask

Yeah, the shoes were the first thing I thought!

    • Victoria Anzalone

This is the best Julianne Moore has looked in ages, but the best part about this post is the dirty pillows reference.

    • Tatiana Luján

I wish Chloë’s shoes were a shade darker and that the waist of her dress was a bit lower.
Julianne is one of the few people that could pull that dress off without looking boring or like it’s her wedding day.

I love Chloe with a passion, but the way she smiles irks me.

she’s going through a hardcore duckface phase. she is 16 though, I’ll give her a pass on it for a bit as the teens loooove them some duckface and I’m sure it really appeals to her fans in that age group!

        • http://onionjam.tumblr.com SkipperJane

She’s even doing the duckface in the photo on her wikipedia entry!

    • decormaven

A pleasing pair indeed. The putty pumps aren’t even giving me eye twitch.

    • AndresB

‘We can’t see your dirty pillows’ deserves to become an instant classic in TLO speak!
I can’t wait for the next chance to use the immortal Kluminator line ‘Flattens the titsen’ either.
      Gorgeous, guys.

    • gabbilevy

Those pumps are this month’s Flavor of the Month Louboutins aren’t they? Better than the plastic/cap-toe pumps all the ladies were wearing last month.

    • Guest

Chloe, follow your movie mama’s lead and give us a fresh smile without the duck face! You’re so pretty and dressed so well; you don’t need the pout.

    • nannypoo

Julianne Moore has a beautiful face and she looks gorgeous here, although I hate her ugly shoes. Chloe is adorable in that dress, which is absolutely perfect for her. I’m not so sure about her shoes. They seem too high and too sophisticated for the dress. These are great pictures of her, except for the one with the major duckface.

    • Trisha26

I’d like to see Julianne wearing the white & black version of those shoes as shown. I’d like to see Chloë wearing the black version. I”m going to admit that I’ve never heard “dirty pillows” as a euphemism. Does that make me old or young or simply uninformed?

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I think it means you’ve never watched Carrie.

      • MissAmynae

I would have liked the white and black version as well. Purty shoes.

    • lehen

I like Julianne’s shoes with that dress. Keeps it from feeling like a courthouse bride (an upscale courthouse bride, but still.)

    • Kristi Mitchell

Am I the only one that thinks Chloe’s feet look like they’re too big for the shoes? They look like they are squished into them and highly uncomfortable. But they’re cute shoes though.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I can’t get over the fact that Chloe is nearly en pointe in those heels. Ask Vicky Posh how that works out for you after a few years. Ouch.
They both look lovely, I have minor quibbles, but I like them both so much it’s easy to let them slide.

      • pop_top

Seriously. It was painful for me to see the top part of her forward foot by the strap.

        • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

          I agree. It’s distracting.

      • maggiemaybe

Right? I felt my knees seizing up just looking at those shoes.

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

          Nighttime charlie horse Hell.

      • http://onionjam.tumblr.com SkipperJane

I recently broke my leg – no heels for me for several months! – and I swear it’s made me even more annoyed at designers and their sky-high stiletto torture devices. Also, she’s 16, and that seems a bit early to be developing a life-long podiatric condition.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1582777135 Melanie K. Morgan

I wish Julianne’s dress weren’t so long; the longer length is fighting with the ankle straps of the shoes.

    • MilaXX

Love the looks on both of them. Agree on the scores. Nice to see Chloe not giving us duckface.
Speaking of remakes, I saw a bit of that film with Karen Black where the little voodoo doll is in her apartment trying to kill her and she finally kills it by tossing it into the microwave. Man that thing actually scared me back in the day and now the special fxs just look lame.

      • schadenfreudelicious

Trilogy of Terror, I still think about that damn doll (though i think it was an African doll and she tossed him in the oven since i dont think microwaves were even around when it came out :)

        • MilaXX

          yeah that’s it.

        • Melizmatic

It was an old microwave, the type that would still work even with the door open.

    • capybara_cafe

They both look pretty amazing. I don’t personally care for the print of Chloe’s dress, but the style is very cute and looks great on her – age appropriate and adorable.

    • Imasewsure

Kind of generous scoring but it’s partly a reward for not looking like ass… that being said, this looks like a really boring wedding guest photo

      • demidaemon

True, but certain celebs deserve rewards for not looking like ass. These two could easily have give us a doubleshot of yesterday’s string of outfits all in one post. And yet, they didn’t. So reward well desrved, I think.

    • carnush

They both look great, but it’s noticeable that Chloe is wearing very heavy makeup, which is puzzling. Julianne looks much more beautiful and natural.

    • butterflysunita

Julianne Moore is so beautiful. I thought at first that I didn’t like her dress because it was too weddingish, but I see your point about simple outfits being best for her. She really looks stunning.

    • PastryGoddess

      Dirty pillows HA!

I HATE Julianne’s shoes, but hey at least she looks fab from the ankles up

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Yes, and yes. Julianne looks great in white as we red heads tend to do. Chloe, thank you for not wearing a lace jumpsuit. Nuff said.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

She just loves those ankle strap shoes! I think they should have traded. The beige shoes are more sophisticated and mature.

    • schadenfreudelicious

ha, i was so hoping you could work in a dirty pillows reference, perfect!

    • Sarah Thomas

IMHO, the best seventies horror film was Rosemary’s Baby. If they ever remake that I just might weep.

    • quiltrx

Thank you for my gigglesnort of the day, saving that ‘dirty pillows’ bit for the last minute. :)
And I am really kind of hoping that Julianne chews every single piece of the scenery, doing Piper Laurie proud.

    • TheAmericaness

Julianne Moore’s shoes are a big NO for me and since Miss Chloe is only 16 I’ll say she’s very pretty!

    • Apocalipstick Now Redux

Let’s hope Chloe gives Julianne some fashion pointers during their pole dance tour.

    • MK03

I’ll admit, I’m looking forward to the remake. I’m a hug Carrie fan, and I like to compare all the iterations. I wish I had been older when the cracktastic Broadway show was playing; it was so insane and weird that it holds a sick fascination for me. What else can you say about a show that has a huge production number dedicated to slaughtering pigs??

      • zelavie

How on earth did I not know there was a Broadway version of Carrie?! Sounds hilariously awful!

        • MK03

IT WAS. Just go to Youtube and search for “carrie musical.” Make sure you see the 1988 version; they did an off-Broadway revival/reimagining last year that was actually quite good. But the ’88 version…oh man. So deliciously terrible.

    • pepper76

Speaking of actors who look alike, someone needs to cast Chloe and Michael Pitt as brother and sister.

    • http://remedialstitcher.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

      I want the Marni dress!

    • finnishmaria

do you think chloe’s heels are so high because her handlers or whatever wanted her to be the same height as julianne?
When people are getting photographed in pairs, do you think they coordinate shoe heights to match? Huh. But yeah, those shoes are so high they are distracting.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

I would sell my kidney on the black market for Chloe’s outfit. Chic, fresh, and cute as hell.

    • Melizmatic

“They’re all going to laugh at you!”

They both look good, but I just cant with yet another Carrie remake.

No, not just ‘can’t’; I WON’T, and nobody can make me…
