Olivia Munn in Michael Kors

Posted on April 24, 2013

We need a shot of sunshine to get our motors running this morning. Miss Olivia? Could you help us out here?

Olivia Munn attends the 2013 Time 100 Gala at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City in a Michael Kors floral lace gown paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

That’ll do.

If you were to, for some odd reason, bark out the phrase “T Lo! Lemon-yellow lace!” we would almost certainly start vomiting on the spot (so please don’t do it). And yet, we really think this looks great on her. We could do without seeing the gap between her thighs, but we have to admit, she’s rocking that color. Not many women could. But man, the shiny face and limp hair make us sad.

Yeah, she does look good. I think the background color helps the yellow, though!

  • Kappyapp

generally speaking, I do like it. But I’m always a bit thrown off with these lace dresses “Is there a lining? Yes there is a lining…or isn’t there? What is going on???” and I find it distracting to the overall look.

    • editrixie

It’s like a test that none of us will ever pass.

  • MoHub

A full lining and better boob support might make this a WERQ

    • Sobaika

Better lining and some setting powder.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

        So say we all.

      • raininmai

And a warmer lip color would help too.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Has the use of powder or blotting papers become passe in Hollywood?..Everyone is always so…shiny…..

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Seriously. Most of their favorite recreational and/or vocational drugs make them so sweaty, you’d think their handlers would have plotting papers on hand at all times.

  • Nimerha

I understand that “sex kitten” is her thing, but… seriously? Lace with a fully nude lining that shows every contour of her body and practically begs the audience to play “Spot my nipples”? Ugh. Combined with the plastic-shiny make up and hair, I will pass.

  • kmk05

Love the dress, hate her makeup. Oooh, that blush colour/contouring job isn’t her friend. Maybe it’s exacerbated by the oiliness?

    • gabbilevy

She looks like she’s got a nasty sunburn… just on her cheekbones. Im good with everything else, even the hair — probably because it looks so very healthy (all too rare on a red carpet full of fried- and bleached-to death locks).

      • kmk05

I don’t mind the hair at all either, probably because it’s not in the mermaid or cocker spaniel hairstyle that’s always everywhere. But that fake sunburn contour is just really garish. The more I look at it the more I cringe!

  • lehen

it definitely could have used a more substantial liner. but overall, a really pretty dress.

  • aeb1986

crazy- i just opened this post as i was watching her interview on the todays show! i think she looks stunning

  • http://twitter.com/knitgrlnyc Maureen

I really don’t like this color on her at all. It just seems harsh. Plus the lace and the mermaid train just completely kill it for me.

    • Jangle57

I’ll go a step further; I just don’t like this color. Maybe it if was a lighter yellow but there’s just enough of a touch of gold to ruin it for me. I can’t imagine this color looking good on anyone.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

An opaque lining would make this so much better.

    • barbarienne

I think there are strategically lined bits, but they are insufficient. The whole thing needed to be lined.

  • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

I like the dress (and it kind of goes with the background) but her face looks orange! And with pale arms!!

  • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

I’m not so much worried about the shiny face as the vapid expression. Maybe snork down a 5-hour energy in the town car before you arrive. I LOVE that dress, especially since that’s my favorite yellow, but she could have used some earrings, even if it were a pair of tasteful studs.

    • VeryClaire

Everything about her suggests there’s nothing going on behind the pretty face, unfortunately. These pictures don’t help that perception!

    • Heather

She always looks totally stoned to me. And here she looks sunburned as well (as posters above note). Did she get high and fall asleep by the pool?

    • MK03

Sh has exactly one expression: “Hey, wanna fuck in the kitchen when I’m done here?”

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Love the color. The fact that you can see through it takes it to Tackyland for me. Maybe I’m a secret prude. It feels a bit vulgar.

    • Tatiana Luján

I find it more cheap than vulgar.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Sad really, considering how wildly expensive it no doubt is.

        • Tatiana Luján

          Yea, really sad.

      • AmandaCathleen

I couldn’t agree more. To me, she’s one of those people who always makes whatever she’s wearing look cheap, but in this case, I think a lot of the fault lies with the dress itself.

    • http://twitter.com/EmFairbank Emily

It’s sheer. The lining isn’t even well placed. It’s trashy.

    • librarygrrl64

No, I agree. I keep going back and forth as to whether or not I can see her ladybits, and that’s never a good sign.

  • Pennymac

I wore a lace dress to a fancy event last year. I thought to myself, “Self, you look hot. Everybody is looking at you.” Then I realized folks were staring to try and determine my stance on nude linings vs going commando. Needless to say, that dress has been retired. Death to lace dresses!

    • demidaemon

This should be a PSA for all those who even think about wearing a lace dress.

  • MartyBellerMask

I wish the color of her face matched the color of her arms.

  • Tatiana Luján

I don’t think the hair looks limp; it looks sleek, clean and shiny.
That color is great on her, even though I don’t like the dress or the fact that the fabric is lace.
The skin of her face and torso looks orange and the arms look white ¿is it makeup, is it my screen, is it a bad spray-tan?

  • Apocalipstick Now Redux

She matched her blush perfectly to the backdrop. That and her visible bellybutton pain me.

  • VeryClaire

Everything about this is fugly – yellow lace, tacky see-through, the shiny orange face that clashes with the awful yellow and the dead expression. Definitely a giant OUT.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Am I the only one who thinks that her spray tan contrasts oddly with the backdrop? I think that when celebs do these step repeats, it would really help their stylist if they could check out the backdrop and lighting first. It might help guide their choices. As to the dress, very pretty on her but I agree with the general consensus – I would like it better if it were lined all the way down, and not just to the top of her thighs.

  • http://twitter.com/herong Heron

    Butt. For. Days.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Yeah, no. If the lining isn’t enough to cover your nipples, you are trashy. And it was such a lovely concept.

  • BrooklynBomber

Same here: “yellow lace dress” horrifies, yet this is working. Except for the undergarments, some of which seem to have gone missing.

  • oldbobbydraper

why is she at this event?

  • Jackie4g

It’s a wonderfull color, and she wears it well. That dress needs a more opaque lining.

  • decormaven

Don’t the stylists get a memo on the colors for step/repeat, flooring, and lighting for these events? None of this is working for me. It looks like mustard on ketchup.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=651385034 LoJoSo

I remember my grandmother having a plastic tablecloth just like this in 1975

  • mmc2315

I’m very distracted by the lining (and lack of) in the dress. It takes away from the overall look. Hair + make-up looks like she is headed to the beach.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

She looks like Barbie’s brunette friend.

  • NiseiShonagon

This works for her in such a bizarre way that I can barely describe it. Despite the eye-assaulting color and bordering-tasteless material, it winds up making her look great because it somehow makes you eyes goes right to her face, which in my opinion looks lovely. She looks so perfectly sun-kissed and radiant that even her freckles are working. It’s kind of beyond belief how a dress in such a screaming yellow could produce that effect. Laboratory experiments may be necessary.

  • B_C_J

This dress needs a lining! I can see things I should not be seeing!

  • formerlyAnon

This is definitely a case where the designer should not just be loaning the clothes out free, they should be paying a modeling fee. There is an infinitesimally small number of women who could make this look this good.

  • MilaXX

This is really good for her but still a bit lacking. Is she afraid of lipstick? I don’t mind the straight hair, but any other lipstick color other than dead would be a welcome change.

  • Sara__B

I prefer my sartorial morning sunshine lace-free, or at least lined. (I’ve never seen this woman in a movie, or even heard her speak, but for some reason she’s top ten on my irrational celebrity dislike list.)

  • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

She needs to hair pointers from Partridge Family-era Susan Dey.

  • j_anson

She’s on my rational hate list.

  • mhleta

If this were pale yellow, it would be wretched. But this saturated color is really exuberant. Love it.

  • frannyprof

    Best she’s done.

  • another_laura

Shiny face, limp hair, too much tanner and the freaking thing is sheer!! gaak. I’m just thanking gawd for her spanx. It’s awful.

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

If I can see nipples, the dress is tacky. I can see nipples.

Also? Stop with the spray tan. You look like an Oompa-Loompa.

  • Connie Harbor

Does anyone else not think it looks like her face and the crown of her head were photo-shopped onto someone else’s neck and long, shiny hair?

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Lace in primary colors is always going to say the clearance table at JoAnn’s fabrics to me.

  • Qitkat

I love this, for the color is smashing on her, but possibly it is also because it reminds me of a crocheted mini dress I had back in the, errr, olden days of yore, one that I loved, and which complemented my coloring, which is similar to hers (no spray tans though). At least mine was lined, in the same yellow so it didn’t look nude.

On another note, I am appalled at how everything I comment on here lately reminds me of my olden days of yore. I had better watch out for ice floes.

  • Trisha26

    Hate yellow. Awful.

  • unbornfawn

She needs a slip and a couple of well chosen accessories, then, I’ll sign on to the sunshine.

  • SewingSiren

‘Tis a pity that it wasn’t lined. It would have been ever so much more elegant.

    • http://www.facebook.com/pamela.hunt.796 Pamela Hunt

I’m with you-and would it kill her to wear a pair of earrings?

  • http://twitter.com/ThingsToShea Jenn Elting

Just because you’re wearing Michael Kors it does NOT mean that you should match your skintone to his.

Holy hell… is it possible that there is someone in this world more orange than MK?

  • http://figgylicious.blogspot.com/ Figgy

    And overabundance of bronzer.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Hate that color. Hate it. Her skin is of the gorgeous tone that she can wear it, but I still really hate it. It screams School Bus Chic.

  • l_c_ann

At least she didn’t have to pay real money for it.

  • guest2visits

I like her hair and make-up, very fresh and pretty, imo. But I hate the see-thru lace, I hate that is cheap looking see-thru lace.
    CheezWiz tablecloth.

  • Coco Cornejo

The lack of a lining all the way across her torso is really distracting–even more than the color.

  • LaSylphide

Oh good, another transparent dress showing us ladybits we really didn’t need (or want) to see. Love the yellow, though.

  • demidaemon

    Agreed on all points.

  • Anniebet

Note to Olivia M… google Tanning Mom pls. Also, see-through is gauche, hairdressers should be your friends, not your enemies.

    PS. Your dress is lovely.

  • http://onionjam.tumblr.com SkipperJane

This reminds me so much of the (beaded yellow lace) dress my grandmother wore to my parents’ wedding in 1968 that I can’t see anything else. Of course, my grandmother’s wasn’t see-through.

Still, I almost like the yellow lace, but she needs a necklace as her décolletage is rather bare. Totally agree about the hair and makeup, but it’s par for the Olivia Munn course.

  • librarygrrl64

That’s a great color on her, but the sheerness is hella distracting.

  • ccm800

I love her hair here – esp for the dress. The makeup initially impressed the hell out of me that they covered her ever present dark circles but left the freckles to shine – but the rest of the shine is a problem
