Katy Perry in Dolce&Gabbana

Posted on April 15, 2013

We’ve gotta give the girl credit. She really does have a knack for taking her cartoon-and-Kool-aid-flavored manic pixie act and make it look chic:

Katy Perry attends the Lacoste L!ve Desert Pool Party during the 2013 Coachella Music Festival in Dolce&Gabbana.

Of course it helps when you’ve got a couple queens like Stefano and Domenico churning out crazy high-end fashion that most woman would have a difficult time pulling off. But if you’re Katy Perry at Coachella, why wouldn’t you want a Dolce & Gabbana skirt with faces all over it, to go with your Italian-tablecloth bra and Carmen Miranda purse?

Brava, you nutty gal. Well done. Love your shades.

Gotta say, I’m digging this outfit a lot. my only quibble is the color of the shoes. I would have loved red, instead of white.

    • gabbilevy

They’re just going to end up all grass-stained.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Or maybe go the whole Latin fantasy route and do espadrilles?

        • MilaXX

yes, an espadrille wedge would have been perfect.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And quite possibly a bit easier to walk in.

    • PastryGoddess

You beat me to it. I actually don’t like the shoes at all. Pair the outfit with another pair of shoes and it’s comfortably chic. With those shoes, it’s a bit much TRY for me

    • drdarke

I think the white shoes work with this outfit, @kiltdntiltd:disqus – they’re not great, but they’re not an eyesore either, and they blend innocuously into the rest of the outfit.

I agree with what @disqus_i1POlFakBe:disqus said above – nothing I like in this outfit, but She Makes It Work. On her, it’s flirty and stylish – on anybody else, it would be a fashion trainwreck.

To paraphrase the great Jack McFarland: She’s so Katy. She’s so Perry. She’s so Katy Perry.

  • teensmom99

Only Katie would wear this and have us say: “that again.” But I love it. There’s something to be said for sticking to what works.

  • stubbornthoughts

Only at Coachella, huh? I have no opinion then.

  • Sobaika

I don’t know that I would call this chic, but it is perfect for Katy and perfect for Coachella without getting into floaty maxis and flower crown territory.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Her beard has a mustache on it!

  • Janet B

    Love this on her.

  • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Love it. She looks adorable and, just, fun. I’d want to hang out with her. I have no clue how she’s walking all over Coachella in platform shoes. Put me in a pair, on any uneven surface, and there goes an ankle. But it’s all totally Katy, she’s certainly a girl who knows how to have fun with fashion.

  • AndresB

There is absolutely nothing I like in this outfit, and yet there’s absolutely nothing I dislike about her appearance.

    • formerlyAnon

      Dead on.

    • guest2visits

      There you go…

  • http://www.facebook.com/ann.verwiebe Ann VerWiebe

I think the bra actually goes with that skirt – same fabric. You have to give Katy credit for staying so fit – she has a great mid-section!

    • AmeliaEve

Yes, I remember the bra top from the collection. And she was very smart to alter the waistband of the skirt.

  • E. D.

It’s a pool party, so not that far out of whack. Still, those shoes are no good.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I’m a bit excited at this opening to the Coachella nuttiness.

  • Sheri B

Is that Tony Orlando on her skirt?

    • Amelia

It appears to be Vlad the Impaler to me.

  • newleaf1

Those are some wicked awesome sunglasses.

  • carolynmo

    Those sunglasses must be mine!

  • anotherintro

    Love it

  • Chartreusite

iggy azalea wore this look too. love it as a quirky spring summery outfit and a perfect outfit for sweltering Coachella

    • Chartreusite

      also holy crap that bag!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

She’s the only one who could pull this off. And a perfect example of the right clothes for the right venue. (Though I do hate the shoes.)

  • nannypoo

I love everything about this. My favorite part is the purse. So perfect. And is that a bottle in her right hand? I can’t imagine what’s in it, and I don’t want to know.

  • MilaXX

Love everything but the shoes. I barely like white shoes in the first place, and chunky white are a new brand of hiddy.

    • fursa_saida

My kingdom for a flat sandal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I’m so happy she’s amping up the crazy. I wasn’t digging her more subdued looks.

    • Sadie-Ann

She looked so unhappy in them. I like her better when she reminds me of a hyper puppy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571205045 Kent Roby

I, too, love this outfit on her, but I don’t like the shoes or purse with it. Regardless, she looks cute, relaxed, and happy.

  • Imasewsure

Love it all on her until…. those fricking white shoes… hate hate hate

  • kayleymaybe

You can tell I’m a ginger because my first thought was whether she has sunscreen on.

    • formerlyAnon

I definitely thought “bet she bathed in the sunscreen, hope she re-applied.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

Even the dreaded white shoes work with this outfit on her…

  • http://twitter.com/amelialouisa amelialouisa

I just love that she came with a pineapple. No pineapple, no go.

  • JuliaInBlack

I’m loving the shades, too, and the plastic pineapple cup (which is the *only* part of the look I could conceivably pull off myself.)

  • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

That pineapple cup is calling my name. I don’t even know why.

  • snarkykitten

I do like her fashionista side. But her music irritates me

  • MoHub

Interesting how the faces are deployed differently on Katy’s version from the runway version Katy’s looks as if one of those faces is eating her ladybits..

  • Tatiana Luján

I’m sorry…Chic? the skirt had a fantastic shape and she ruined it.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

This. She turned a cute high-waisted mini into a high-waisted gynecological skirt.

  • formerlyAnon

I like this better than her last few photographic airings on this blog. I guess I should say, I don’t like this schtick at all, but she’s making it work for her, she’s looking good.

  • conniemd

I still hate faces on clothing.

  • clairellis

I hate everything about this from head to toe. Even the earrings. She does however have a nice body.

  • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

This is the only woman and the only context that that outfit would work. Brava, Katy Perry. You look amazing.

  • jetpackdino

How on earth she can look that great in that get-up is mystifying, but there ya go. I like it.

  • Trisha26

Hmmm…don’t want to ever tell someone to grow up or “dress their age” (whatever that means) but this cutesy/whacky thing is beginning to look a bit juvenile on her. And that shrunken-head purse will give me nightmares.

  • Anniebet

I was just thinking how much fun being her stylist must be. Kudos to Stephano and Domenico.

  • MissAmynae

    So cute, So Katy!

  • Guest

Am I the only one who sees Megan Draper all over this?

  • fursa_saida

Has she lost weight recently? Maybe it’s just the cut of the top, but her boobs look less bountiful to me. As everyone has said, she looks inexplicably fantastic except for the shoes, which look like they’re meant for actual cows who work in medical facilities. I need whatever lipstick that is. Badly.

  • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

Cute outfit. Those shoes don’t look good for a music festival.
