Julie Bowen in Monique Lhuillier

Posted on April 25, 2013

Good heavens, Miss Bowen. You’re beautiful.

Julie Bowen attends Oscar de le Renta and author Kelly Florio Kasouf invite children to shop the Spring 2013 Collections and Limited Edition ‘Sophie Party Dress’ at Oscar de La Renta Boutique in West Hollywood, California in a Monique Lhuillier dress.

Monique Lhuillier Resort 2013 Collection

We’re not used to seeing her look so … soft. She tends to go for the harsh when it comes to her public appearances. Normally we think yellow-blondes should stay away from bright yellow dresses. But this is more of a yellow-green than a true yellow, so maybe that’s why it’s working better on her than we would have predicted. We still think it’s not the best part of the color wheel for her, but like we said: she looks soft and pretty. We can’t hate.

I love it. Her hair needs a little conditioning, but she looks great anyway.

    • Little_Olive

      Generic lady who lunches.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

It’s very “ladies who lunch,” but look at the event she’s attending. It doesn’t get much more “ladies who lunch” than that.

        • Little_Olive

Its is. Anyway, I’d take (inane) ladies who lunch over ladies who “invite children to shop the Spring 2013 Collections (…)” any day.

          • MilaXX

I still don’t quite understand the event. Do they expect children to buy designer duds?

            • Little_Olive

I assume the parents of those children are not very much in touch with reality, as they are willing to dress their kids in Oscar de la Renta; but they should be a bit offended that the invitation is extended to the children, thus implying that they are the controllers of their parents’ wallets (yes, I know it’s a reality, it’s just that it baffles me to see it as accepted and positive).

    • Janet B

      Lovely dress on her.
Less yellow and more green would have been better.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s pretty and springy/summery, and – while not Earth-shattering – still looks nice and works for her.

    • Calinda_L

The title of this event is… insane.

    • MissAnnieRN

I love this dress. I want it. I have brown hair. I can’t afford it. Must find a knock off.

    • ashtangajunkie

Love this dress! She looks very pretty, although I haven’t yet figured out whether this hem length we keep seeing is an intended thing or simply a lack of a proper hem.

    • Violina23

There’s a slight urge to “grade on a curve” from some of her red carpet appearances, but I love the dress, and especially the hair and makeup. I wonder if she intentionally avoids softer looks for the red carpet since she plays a disheveled mom on TV?

    • Off Topic

Is that not the strangest event description TLO ever did feature? Took me like 3 times to figure out who hosted what for the children (which, BTW should still be walking in nature).

      • demidaemon

You know, I usually just skim them (because they are either extraordinarily obvious, narcissistic, convoluted, or some combination of the three) so I actually had to go back up and read this one. I actually think there was a stranger event description back in early winter, but I would definitely place this in the top ten, if not the top five.

    • Dam_Angel

So close!! Five inches off the bottom and a minimal black sandal.

    • Sobaika

Oooh, really lovely on her and the print is so pretty and artsy. Maybe she’s better at daytime looks?

Fellow kittens, remember the lemon dress Solange wore at Coachella? I have found a bargain version for those who were salivating over it. It’s the Yellow Skater Dress by Dorothy Perkins, it has a similar summer-y vibe as Julie Bowen’s here.

      • Introspective

thank you thank you thank you!! googling it now.

oh and yes, love julie in this look.

      • MilaXX

Oh that’s a steal at $49. Good looking out!

      • http://twitter.com/MixedupBek Rebekah B

You are trouble. Now I must have it.

      • Nicole Chubb

Girl, if you could find a reasonably-priced dress for every (good) dress TLo features, you’re website could be a gold mine. Nice work!

      • http://twitter.com/kitchenflails Cassidy Olsen

Thank you so much! I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

    • Rand Ortega

The dress is giving me life. So perfectly springtime. Her makeup & hair are nice if a little too casual. Love the clutch. Hate the shoes.

      • jennsilentcrow

    • tereliz

She looks great. I love this color, so I can understand her attraction to it. She fills it out perfectly and love those sandals. I know folks are not in love with this hem length, but Julie’s got the height and the calves to pull it off.

    • jennsilentcrow

I think kudos are in order.
      1. Its an unexpected color and it doesnt look crappy on her, which it could on most. It’s a classic silhouette that looks unexpectedly interesting here. The print is bold but not shocking! While i don’t LOVE the other elements, they don’t distract. IMHO the hair could use a bit more attention, but thats just me.
      2. She seems to have eaten a cracker or two, which is wonderful. In the past, her skeletal frame gave me great concern.
      3. She looks happy and warm as opposed to uncomfortable and cold.

She’s not my favorite but i give it a hardy thumbs up.

    • lehen

she looks so much better without her sternum as the main attraction.

    • decormaven

Are children being invited to shop couture? Be sure to invite their parents as well, because somebody’s gotta pay for those designers duds. Anyway, this is a very pretty dress- one of her better looks.

    • StellaZafella

In this venue, for some reason, my eye gets usurped to seeing everything else that’s blue…I have trouble focussing on her as the subject of the pics, lovely as she is. They might, at least, have moved the cobalt champagne bucket out of the shot. It feels like it’s photo bombing her…and now I keep hearing the Manhattan Transfer oldie “Blue Champagne…laa da dee da da…”!

    • MilaXX

I think she looks lovely. I sometimes think she tries too hard during the awards season. This looks more like something she would wear in real no celebrity life.

    • Imasewsure

Very pretty look on her. Even like the nude shoes (maybe because they aren’t white pumps!). Prefer this to her harsh fashionista looks any day

    • jw_ny

Very pretty. I think the dress and colors work perfectly on her.

    • Sara__B

A sleek and sunshine-y dress worn with the wrong shoes and clutch. Still, it’s a lovely look.

    • TAGinMO

What, exactly, is supposed to happen at this event?!

“Hello, little girl! Isn’t this dress pretty? Do you like it? Well, it costs $4,000, so I hope you brought mommy’s credit card. Oh, you did? Good!

“Now. Let’s find you some Spanx.”

      • http://www.facebook.com/vlasta.bubinka Vlasta Bubinka

If loving that is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

    • julnyes

She looks lovely and event appropriate. Kudos to you Ms. Bowen!

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I love me a good Thomas Dolby reference. And she does look nice at what seems to be a totally insane event.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

We were going to weep if no one got the reference.

        • jw_ny

I did get the reference right away, in fact it was bugging me that I couldn’t think of the real name, so I finally had to google it…Miss Sakamoto! Now I can’t get that song out of my head…curses. ;)

          • H2olovngrl

I did the same thing! Could NOT remember the name! Seriously though, this is a personal best for her, in my opinion.

    • BrooklynBomber

One of the rare times this currently popular in-between length is working.

    • crash1212

Possibly the best she’s ever looked. Ever.

    • TheAmericaness

Kids in the Sudan must be SO excited to finally get that Oscar de La Renta outfit they so been wanting!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UCLO5V2YD36T7QMPKOC7YXPOFU Erica

And if they DID invite needy children, and give them some insanely expensive clothes, how does that help, exactly? Maybe proceeds from rich kids going on spending sprees go to a charity? Otherwise, I don’t get why a well-paid actress is there.

        • TheAmericaness

I’m sure it’s more along the lines of the charity thing. They do need to brainstorm and come up with a new name though…. it’s… lame.

Edit: My husband just suggested the Make a List Foundation: It’s a Mall World After All

    • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

      I covet that dress.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Personal best for her. The softness of this look really allows her to shine. Maybe those harsh looks she favors are too distracting.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Looking great! California Blonde werq for me! Your move, Elizabeth Banks!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002718877231 Bert Keeter

      SPRING has arrived! Thank you!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Erin-Hines/620149309 Erin Hines

I’ve never seen her look lovelier.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1582777135 Melanie K. Morgan

She looks great! Wish it were three inches shorter.

    • Tracy_Flick

“Invite children to shop the Spring collections.” That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Did they put Benadryl in the organic juice boxes?

The dress is beautiful. Could it be a couple inches shorter, though? And obviously, different shoes.

    • http://twitter.com/omg_dora Dora K.

She’s a beautiful, beautiful woman, and that’s a cute dress, although the color is problematic. I think these pictures are a bit over-saturated, too — she looks very red.

    • http://twitter.com/Chucko78 Chuck Barthelme

Crush on Julie Bowen, intact. Raaawwwrrrrr.

    • bellafigura1

      Ooh, love, including the color.

    • Qitkat

      I LOVE this. Watercolor painting.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

i applaud anyone who can wear bright yellow. She looks lovely!

    • unbornfawn

The best I have seen her in a while. She looks great.

    • stubbornthoughts

The epitome of a MILF. Is she a mother? Doesn’t matter. That is MILF material if I’ve ever seen it.

    • another_laura

I think it’s great. Except I don’t like the shoes. I’m really having a problem with ladystar shoes lately. Need to speak to my shrink about it…

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

      Want dress.

    • VicD

So much cuter when she is not trying too hard.

    • Jan de la Rosa

We can hate the shoes. I think we must

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

One of my favorite looks on her ever. I hate it when she goes severe and this is just plain pretty.

    • Damien W

      She blinded you with science!

The makeup is attempting to look natural, but it looks worked instead. Then again it could be the intense lighting. But I love this look on her.

    • Trisha26

    • demidaemon

Isn’t it bad form to wear one designer to another designer’s event? It just seems like, when they have these “so and so designer’s” event, that everyone is wearing the honored/hosting designer at said event. Just a clothing etiquette question for everyone.

That said, I think this is a near personal best for her, if not a personal best. Although she does tend towards shoes that seem to make her poor feet look tortured.

    • Jecca2244

i am confused. she is at an Oscar de la Renta store party in a Monique dress?

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

      She’s aging. It’s refreshing. :)

    • Kristy Evans

She’s the embodiment of a cool glass of lemonade on a hot summer day.
