Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Jay Leno

Posted on April 09, 2013

We think everything about this look is perfect for a Leno appearance, but…

‘Veep’ star Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ show to promote the new season of her show in a Stella McCartney dress.

Stella McCartney Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Sara Blomqvist (VIVA)

She kinda lost us a little with the cartoon boobs.  We love ourselves some color-blocking – and we’re not even saying we don’t like this – but the effect is a little distracting, especially when she sits down and the seam  doesn’t quite rest where it should. Most of the time when we’re looking at pictures of ladystars, we have to fight the urge to somehow reach into the screen and yank her dress up. This might be the first time we want to do so and yank her dress down.

Still, it’s a sharp, cool look that suits her well. And she is absolutely freaking hilarious in Veep. She’s essentially playing Vice-President Elaine Benes, but we don’t mind. She’s good at it and she’s got a phenomenal cast. We probably laugh loudest and hardest at her show than anything currently on the air.

Bitch don’t age.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

      She really doesn’t. She’s beautiful.

    • Imasewsure

I can’t wear any shade of orange so I absolutely love it on women who can. She looks gorgeous even with the slight cartoon boob. Love it in white too

    • schadenfreudelicious

she truly doesn’t age, whatever work she may be getting done to her wonderful face, it’s some of the best in Hollywood.

    • Jecca2244

love her. and love Veep. cannot wait for it to come back on. we have to watch it twice because we have so hard.

    • PastryGoddess

Between her, Andi McDowell, and Halle Berry it’s enough to make you want to just give up.

I think I like this dress in white better. I can’t believe I said that about a Stella McCartney

      • Tatiana Luján

        And Helena Bonham Carter.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Does. Not. Age.

    • surfergirl70

She has got to have an aging painting of herself up in her attic. The woman looks phenomenal. And yes, the cartoon boobs bug a little bit, but overall it’s a good look.

    • Zippypie

Another WTF Moment brought to you by Stella McCartney.

    • charlotte

Love her, don’t love the boob outline.

    • GorgeousThings

I LOVE Veep! She is sharp as a tack in it, and the supporting cast is equally awesome.

    • teensmom99

I love her and the way she dresses but the boob outline is a rare mistake. Courtesy of course of our Stella.

      • teensmom99

and you are too funny, gentlemen, about wanting to pull down her dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

Someone from her wealth shouldn’t age…but still, jealous of her genes/skin care regimen/plastic surgeon.

    • Carly Warnock

I prefer this dress in the white but it’s Stella McCartney so I’d just rather her just be wearing something else. The colour of this is great on her but the outline of her bust is odd.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000088447181 Sam Smith

like the dress and agree, she doesn’t age, but she also doesn’t appear to have had work done (meaning she still looks like herself, I don’t know her secret but she looks great).

    • CheriCPat

I bet the link doesn’t work, but I’ll try just in case. Trisha Yearwood wore this dress, with sleeves, at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Her boobs looked silly in it too. Make the color blocks, well, blocks!

    • nannypoo

It’s too long on her. I want it to have those little plastic eyes that jiggle and maybe a mustache hanging down in the middle.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

A big, tangerine colored baby bib is covering the top of her dress…..oh, wait, that IS the top of her dress. If it had been just the two colors it would have been really cute. Props for not wearing something too short, too revealing, too uncomfortable looking, or otherwise inappropriate.

    • prettybigkitty

Bad Stella! Bad, bad! She ruined a perfectly good silhouette.

    • Deb_Lynn

Aww, when I saw the first picture, I thought it was an ombre style dress. I was mostly happy with this, but then I saw the boob-cupping of Le Stella. No! STELLAAAAA!!!

    • Trisha26

I was okay until I saw photo 2. Why do stars continue to wear Stella’s designs? They are so difficult and often uncomplimentary.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=49702581 Susan Bullard Mayer

I love it on her. Those of us with small boobs could use some emphasis.

    • MilaXX

Oddly enough this is the second recommendation to watch Veep. I may have to check it out.

      • PastryGoddess

        It’s hilarious and addictive

        • SRQkitten

Between game of thrones and veep, am seriously considering HBO subscription.

My understanding is that veep is by the wicked mind that was responsible for The thick of it, a UK dark comedy that I loved.

          srq

    • Rand Ortega

Wow. Even w/ cartoon boobs she’s spot on.
“Veep” is the only show where even the dialogue walking down a hallway has me in tears from laughing. I wonder if they pitched to the network as “Imagine a really cynical & snarky Elaine Benes as Vice President”.

$10K for that painting under her bed.

    • dorothea_brooke

LOVE her on Veep, love her in general. This dress is a solid 6, bumped up to an 8 by the JLD awesome.

Apropos of – something – I adore her clothes on Veep. A primer on apres 40 sexy. The pink dress she wore in the finale was so gorgeous.

      • VictoriaDiNardo

I agree about the wardrobe and also Robin Wright’s clothing in the Netflix “house of Cards”. Simple clean adult sexy. Major envy.

        • dorothea_brooke

I’ll have to check that out. Also Connie Nielsen on “Boss.” (Though I think that’s been cancelled.) Yes on the envy. And “I need a hair cut and color. And a manicure. Basically I need a new life.”

          • VictoriaDiNardo

yeah, watch Wright in this and you immediately need a haircut, color, well also her bone structure and build. It’s all a little severe, but with such a modern classic vibe. I’m older than she is, but I felt if I stood next to her I would feel like a messy naive child. I need new clothes……

    • Funkykatt

This looks like a Project Runway winner which makes me think the PR judges must be SM fans.

    • PrunellaV

      It’s too long.

    • http://twitter.com/AnniNoone AnniNoone

For some reason, all I can think of is “I HAVE SEEN THE NIPPLE ON *YOUR SOUL!!*”

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=621974740 Carolyn Wilson

I love Julia, I love “Veep” and I am in awe of the genius Armando Iannucci who created this and the equally hilarious and profane filled “The Thick of It”.

      • the_valkyrie

Malcolm Tucker is my number 1 rage filled shag fantasy…

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=621974740 Carolyn Wilson

          Can you imagine?!!!!

          • the_valkyrie

Well we probably already saw his orgasm face…I’m imagining it being similar to when he’s suffused with rage

    • ballerinawithagun

Peach and orange boobs will always be a no! The subtle look on the runway is quite nice. She does look great over-all.

    • Fordzo

I agree that Veep is the best thing on TV.

    • alyce1213

The cartoon orange boobs ruin a potentially nice dress.
Typical Stella McCartney gimmick that just doesn’t work.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

      Stellllllllaaaaaaaaaa!

    • Jennifer Coleman

I loathe this dress. that ‘place boobs HERE’ bodice looks good on no woman, and many a ladystar has tried to wear it. Stella McCartney just always gets in the way of all of her designs, doesn’t she?

      • mhleta

My parents used to throw wild parties in the 60s. They had a pin the boobs on the Playboy bunny game. Your comment reminded me that this dress reminds me of that game.

    • BrooklynBomber

Okay, I know I’m a dope, but is she on two series at once, or is New/Old Christine not on anymore?

      • semirose

It got cancelled a few years ago. I actually really liked that show and of course Clark Gregg makes everything better.

        • BrooklynBomber

Oh, thanks. I see it in reruns, but somehow I thought they were still making it. It was a good show.

    • Tracy_Flick

Hmmm. Didn’t Kate Winslet wear something just like this several years ago? Was that also Stella?

      • Tracy_Flick

Ah yes. November 2011. I think the more muted color combo on the Kate version worked better.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I was wondering about that. Is this the same dress in different colours?

    • ccm800

bah! How such a simple dress can still be so effin wretched.

      • SRQkitten

How such a simple dress can be so effin wretched?

        Easy, answered in one word….McCartney.

        srq

    • jencapture

Though I love Julia, that dress makes her look like a live action Tom Wesselmann nude.

      • VictoriaDiNardo

        I love this! It’s true!

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I agree with this comment so much.

    • LaSylphide

      It’s a McCartney, ergo it’s ugly.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I have a Calvin Klein dress that looks like this but instead of being curved to my boobs, it’s just a black line at the waist. I don’t get the boob contouring, that’s just silly.

    • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

She looks better now than she did in Seinfeld. I have no idea how she manages to look YOUNGER than she did twenty years ago.

    • patticake1601

This is the third celebrity I have seen wearing the same dress. It looked best on Trisha Yearwood on that awards show this past weekend.

    • filmcricket

Kate Winslet wore this in the runway version a while back. I think the more neutral version works better (and I’m a girl who loves her colour) but JLD is making this work as best she can, that’s for sure. I bet she owns it, rather than was loaned it.

    • http://twitter.com/MarfMom Maya

trisha yearwood wore this at the ACMs. the boobs are too weird for me.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I hated Seinfeld, so I wasn’t a huge fan of hers either, but I’ve totally fallen in love with her since then – she’s SO smart and funny, and beautiful, to boot. And nope, she clearly made a deal with the devil, because she hasn’t seemed to age one bit.

Oh, the dress. I like the color, but the seam under the bust is a little distracting. Though otherwise, just right for a sit-down.

    • http://twitter.com/mannahattamamma MannahattaMamma

look at those biceps in that last picture! I think she could probably wrestle Madge to the ground with those guns

    • mhleta

You know what? If it were standard color-blocking there would be nothing to talk about. JLD knows how to dress her body, always, and she knows how to take a calculated risk. She’s enough of a wag that she can pull this off with a wink. I’m in for whatever ride she’s taking us on.

    • Lilyana_F

The way it is cut on the shoulders on the model the shapes make more sense. On the version Julia is wearing the whole panel looks too wide and weird. Other than that, she looks radiant.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=783500814 Amelia Pitts

It’s the color combined with her long hair which makes her look hunched and booby-challenged. The dress on the model with the smaller boobs, white dress, and up-do look better, though that seam to grey is still really distracting in a annoying way… so it’s better? That’s all I can say.

    • carnush

Agree. And I love the show too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

The first picture looks SO GOOD. So disappointing to see it from every other angle.

    • Little_Olive

      Bitch don’t age Bitch don’t age Bitch don’t age Bitch don’t age….

Plus she seems really nice. Ironic how “real” she is when she is rich (on her own, apart from her career) and talented.

    • MoreShoes

The white version of the dress is much better but it wouldn’t work for JLD. Although it was perfect for Kate Winslet. I also saw an all red version of the dress, with black sides and no cartoon boobs. That would have been much better for her.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

In the first picture her arm obscures the line between the cartoon boobs and the rest of the dress. So at first I thought the color was a gradient from light to dark orange. I liked that vision better than the reality of this dress. She looks great but the cartoon boobs are distracting.

    • Frank Lithium

My thoughts exactly on the weird under-boob line.
