January Jones in Sam & Lavi

Posted on April 12, 2013

January Jones continues to give the most epic bitchface in all of celebritydom. Bow down.

January Jones attends the 3rd Annual Coach Evening to benefit Children’s Defense Fund in a Sam & Levi dress paired with Coach heels.

Seriously. It’s almost disappointing when she smiles.

As for the outfit, every piece she’s wearing is cute and/or chic, but in the words of our great muppet philosophers, “One of these things is not like the other.” That coat, chic as it is, absolutely takes everything away from the look, rendering a colorful dress and pair of shoes somehow drab. That dress is kind of on the skimpy side, so we’re all for adding a little coverage, but you can’t just throw any coat you have on, if you’re hitting the red carpet. Especially if the sleeves are way too long. It’s not a coincidence that she’s not taking her hands out of her pockets. If she does, those sleeves will unfurl to the floor.  It also doesn’t help that we hate her hair. We don’t mind a sloppy loose ‘do, but that centerpart is not her friend; not in this case, anyway.

This needed a cropped jacket in a different shade of blue or yellow than the ones in the dress. A little tone-on-tone without being matchy. It would bring the look together and let the colors of the dress stand out more. She really shouldn’t ever wear garments the color of that jacket. It washes her out completely.

I am having a strangely positive reaction to this. From the side/up close I love the hair. Face on/at a distance it looks borderline awful. And displays her roots more prominently than needed.

      • http://twitter.com/kerryev kerryev

Me too! I like the hair from the side and I’m not a fan of the braiding trend.

        • fursa_saida

I do Creative French Braiding or whatever the hell we call it to myself kind of a lot (gets my bangs off my face!), and I am here to tell you there are infinitely better ways to get a similar effect to whatever she was going for. It’s sort of killing me.

I can’t wait for Betty to lose weight and bring back the bitchface. Weight gain has mitigated the bitchy power of her eyes.

      • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

methinks it’s part of her current character…

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

*sigh* But they never give us what we want, do they? I think if Betty were going to lose weight, she would have already.

        • TheDivineMissAnn

Well, I kinda wonder about her weight. In some of the promo shots for Season 6, they show her down to the dress size she wore before she woke up one day and said omigodihatemylifewhointhehelldidimarry and started eating.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Vella/666619877 Matthew Vella

She’s definitely already lost a lot of weight, so I’m assuming by mid-season she’ll be considerably slimmer.

    • Jessi03

She and LiLo both in braids. Are they in again?

    • tereliz

Cute earrings! imma leave it at that.

    • alyce1213

I love and want all the pieces. They are gorgeous, just not together.
I think she could wear that color coat if something underneath it — at her face — were colorful or contrasting.

    • AndresB

Her face is channeling Annie Lennox fierceness (which is great) while her clothes are fighting said fierceness from various style corners (which is a shame). Go edgy, girl.

    • Kyle Crawford

Come on guys! She got a chill at a garden party and her Edwardian husband gave her his jacket….

    • gabbilevy

The shoes are the only comment-worth part of this otherwise generically cute set of pieces (not an outfit, really). They are FAB.

      • teensmom99

Shoes look much better on than off.

      • girliecue

Houndstooth heels – where have you been all my life?!?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

AND they look wearable and comfy.

      • jetpackdino

Yep, her shoes look perfectly fab. Much better than the shoes the model is wearing in the pic. I want those shoes.

    • nannypoo

That day-glo lipstick makes my eyes hurt.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

All I can see is her lips (and how eerily they match the backdrop). Not the right makeup for these clothes.

      • Vlasta Bubinka

I keep thinking: Why did she kiss a traffic cone?

    • http://twitter.com/TVcastingcall Reality TV Casting

bet you a dollar thats nars heatwave on her lips

    • Little_Olive

“in the words of our great muppet philosophers, “One of these things is not like the other.””

With this, Ladies and Gentlemen, I gleefully close my workweek.

    • schadenfreudelicious

i could do without the Fraulein Von Trapp hair…..

      • girliecue

        Yeah. Maria wore it better.

    • marilyn

It is bizarre that her lipstick matches the Coach sign behind her. The dress might be nice in the summer if she had a tan. The shoes are okay. Bad raincoat color.

    • MilaXX

The hair is a crime against humanity. I know she’s working around some damage, but this ain’t the way. Completely agree about the coat. The dress and shoes are cute.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I found myself wishing the dress was a romper. I don’t know why.

      • Imasewsure

Kinda had that same thought… I had an Express romper like that in the 80’s (luckily I was in my 20’s!!).

    • ralish

Hmm, wonder if the coat is Coach and was a last-minute add on. Might explain how it doesn’t go/fit. Not that it’s an excuse, but perhaps an explanation.

    • Qitkat

No one ought to ever wear anything the color of an ace bandage.

    • Trisha26

I love the coat, absolutely gorgeous. And the shoes are cute. The dress is so Summery…we saw Spring looks last Winter, Summer looks now, will we see a bevy of sweaters during Summer Step & Repeats?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

But you know what? I am thrilled looking at this because it’s not dark Betty/ Mama Francis. But SHE should be happier and dressed to kill.

    • Alyssa

I just love her bitchface. It’s the best part of this look.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Was she paid to wear Coach brand-ID lipstick? Because if she wasn’t, that is not your shade of tomato, honey.

    • Tatiana Luján

I disagree. She looks lovely and chic.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I love the shoes. The coat and dress are fine, but what I noticed was the catalogue-esque pose of the model in the dress.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

That dress is cute, and gets bonus points for having pockets.

    • j_anson

The lipstick match with the roses is uncanny.

I love that hair from the side. But yeah, they let it get too puffy and messy to look good from the front.

    • Anniebet

      Shoes! Love. Her? Meh.

    • ankali

I actually love this. I love the androgyny the coat brings, and I love how tossed-off her hair looks. The whole thing looks so much more effortless than she usually looks. I actually can’t remember a look she’s worn that I liked better.

      • ZnSD

        I’m living for her coat.

      • http://twitter.com/Sinead_Doyle Sinéad Doyle

Completely agree and January is really working that dress. It looks so much more high end on her than the model. I’m lusting after those shoes too and I’m one of those odd women who rarely lusts after shoes.

    • trixietru

Ahhhh skinny Betty! Can forgive the coat because of the AstroTurf. The center hair part is a killer. The whole head doesn’t work for me. Very WWII.

    • sekushinonyanko

She looks a lot like Brie Larson here.

    • Sweetpea176

I think this works so much better for her than when she goes for those edgy Versace looks, which I generally hate on her.

    • gracedarling

I do love that she matched her lipstick to the step-and-repeat logo and wore the Coach heels. I can’t help it, I kind of love her. I also think she suffers from the same problem as Rose Byrne, who notoriously looks miserable on the red carpet because she gets really nervous about it.

      • bellafigura1

I love her too, and am soo happy when I see her not in the fat suit.

    • E. D.

Love the shoes and the earrings. Like everything else but the coat. Was she planning on going flashing on the way home?

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Burnt orange cropped jacket, in a tweed. That’s my prescription.

    • decormaven

Oooh, for a cropped jacket, and a less orange hue of lipstick. This would be in WERQ-worthy territory for sure. Those shoes- le sigh…

    • Elleachaudaucul

Sorry but I think she looks cool! A cropped blue or yellow jacket would be so Talbots. Or ladies who lunch. Agree that the center part is doing nothing for her.

    • carnush

That jacket is calling my name. I want it so bad. I think she looks cute. I agree that in this case the jacket doesn’t go with the look. She should give it to me.

    • carnush

In case anyone is curious, the coat is Givenchy. Drool.

    • stubbornthoughts

I’m going to have to disagree. I absolutely love the jacket with this outfit. It’s a power trip if I’ve ever seen one, and she looks like she could kick my ass from 50 feet away.

I love the idea of the hair, but the middle part with the bitchface does make it seem like she’s got horns. Devilish, fuck-off horns.
