Emmy Rossum in Topshop

Posted on April 16, 2013

We’re thinking that any step-and-repeat backdrop that features cute puppies and subliminal messages to drink more tequila can only help any outfit that stands in front of it.

Emmy Rossum attends the ‘Saving Tails’ Fundrwaiser in Hollywood, California in a Topshop top and skirt paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and a Stuart Weitzman bag.

Fortunately, Miss Emmy doesn’t need the help. Love the shoes, love the skirt, love the blouse. Do NOT love the out-of-control Pinterest braid on steroids, though. We like the bag but we think a metallic gold was a really odd choice to pair with brown shoes and a yellow skirt. Also, that’s a whole hell of a lot of makeup there, girlie. Between the paint and the braid, we want a new Emmy head for this look.

That bag is so cute. Want.

“We have contained the rogue toe. I REPEAT, we have contained the rogue toe.”

    • ballerinawithagun

Darn I’m too late, I wanted to say that!!!!

    • BuffaloBarbara

I think we may have a rare creature here. Those may actually be her own shoes, thus with the (barely) toe containment. (You can’t expect more than a barely with straps that thin.)

  • ralish

That barrette single-handedly ruined the entire outfit for me.

  • ChaCha_70

I think she looks great! I really like her makeup. She just needs a little less blush.

  • thecitysleeps

I will disagree and say I love EVERYTHING. Except the pins on the hair. I have a major girl crush on her and her style.

  • kittenwithaquip

At least she’s not looking like a consumptive anymore.

  • formerlyAnon

Less than the sum of its parts. Though the overall average IS better than that disintegrating braid. I’d have paired a white blouse sans lace with the skirt, but I like the purse better with the blouse than the skirt. And those are nice shoes but it seems that particular light tan brown is spring’s neutral this year and I already am starting to reject it on principal.

  • Emmy Rossum is/as Marnie Michaels.

  • The outfit is adorable… I think I need that skirt. Hair and makeup need work, and the purse is all wrong.

  • In_Stitches

I’m not getting annoying waves of twee off of this outfit and yet, I definitely should be, no? I think it’s the heavy face of makeup that’s doing it for me…

  • Sara__B

Very cute, but very department store. The young women at my place of employment dress like this, minus the super loud lipstick.

    • drdarke

Agreed, @Sara__B:disqus – it’s a nice outfit, but I think every young woman who wants to show a little leg in warm weather without looking trashy has one just like it. The gold purse just doesn’t go with that outfit, at all – and while the heels are okay, they’re straight out of Payless Shoes.

If she weren’t Emiily Rossum, you wouldn’t give her a second glance….

I don’t understand why this is called a “calf skirt”…it doesn’t hit at the calf. Is it made of calves, or the skin of calves? Help me understand. I want to know what love is. I want you to show me.

    • Vickiefantastico

I think it’s supposed to hit at the calf, but Emmy, or someone who works for her, more likely, hemmed it higher to show off her legs. So the calf skirt becomes a way to show off her calves.

  • SewingSiren

Not only do I love the skirt, blouse, and shoes. I also love the fishtail braid, the dogs, and the tequila.

  • MissusBee

Agree – make-up way to heavy for such a fresh, springtime outfit. A sheer lip in a cooler shade would have pulled it together better, although the whole style from eyes to base says classic/mature, which Is fighting the look. Not that she’s too mature for this, just imagine it on a fresh-faced Fanning, with some kicky flats and a nonsensical bangle, and all of a sudden poor Emmy looks like a secretary in a heat wave.

Also, her legs and arms are not the same color. Legs and shoes are though, so kudos for that.

    • formerlyAnon

      “secretary in a heat wave”
EXACTLY. Aided and abetted by the fact that that shade of brown shoe was very popular in cheap summer shoes, back when I was young enough to wear high heeled sandals to work and didn’t know about any other kind of shoe than cheap ones.

  • nannypoo

Does she have another facial expression? One that makes her look a little less vapid?

This is not really a look. It’s a skirt and a blouse that anyone could have put together and shoes that don’t belong with either piece.

  • jetpackdino

Adorable girl. Her face just loves the camera, and it always seems like she’s really “there” in photos.

And if TLo likes the shoes I will accept their ruling, but if it were just up to me, I might be confused.

  • MilaXX

Hate the Katniss hair, the red lip and the disco bag. Cute outfit though.

  • Corsetmaker

I just can’t get my head round Topshop on the red carpet. If this is coming from stylists then I’d be miffed if I was the actress that I was getting palmed off with flippin’ Topshop and not a designer number!

  • The makeup is too heavy for the look.

  • demidaemon

Seems like wackadoo braids are the new hair trend. Oh boy.

  • jmorino08

Agree 100%. That hair is just sad. She deserves better.

  • quiltrx

Emmy, you know I adore you…but I think you need to hire a lip-color stylist.
And I wish this shitty, incorrectly-done-looking braid would vanish into the ether. It looks neat, said no one ever.

  • adnama79

I <3 reading TLo reference a "Pinterest braid."

  • kathrineb

I think its all cute. I love this look on her and she pulls off that lip colour so well!
As a small lipped girl I wish I could wear red lipstick without looking stern and silly.

  • KC

I think the braid is cute. Its not nearly as complicated as a lot of braids I’ve seen on Pinterest. It’s actually relatively simple and messy (which I think is the point). I think it works with the outfit.
