  • I’m not in love with the shoes (though I couldn’t give a specific suggestion for improvement) but I do love this dress on her!

    • aeb1986

i felt the same way! i didnt like it in the first shot but thought she looked great in all the others. must be the shoes. she’s pulling that dress off like a champ though!

  • Sarah

I think she looks cute, but I am a little bothered by the white whiteness of that V on the collar. If it wasn’t SO white, maybe?

  • I thought this was adorable from head to toe.

    • I agree with you. She looks totally fine both for her age, and the venue.

    • I was going to say she looks great head to ankle. Those shoes give me nightmares.

      • drdarke

I think the shoes look fine for Spring/Summer, @twitter-14454473:disqus – and the overall outfit is clever and cute both.

      • ballerinawithagun

The silver shoes would have been much better, not quite as heavy looking as the black.

  • Patricia Gillett

Should be a WERQ. This is HER dress.

    • Emily Rose

agreed. on anyone else it would look ridiculous.

  • She looks really washed out. And I’m not liking the shoes.

  • MilaXX

Hate the tendrils on her hair, but the rest of the look is really cute.

  • Sobaika

That’s the perfect dress for her. Something about the shoes paired with it though – doesn’t it seem off, proportionally speaking?

Anyway, she was really charming last night (except for when she ragged on her Hermione hair which excuse me, that is the way it’s supposed to be and she’s just lucky they didn’t stick her in some fake buck teeth so whatever).

    • ballerinawithagun

I agree about the proportion issue. As I said above the silver version of the shoe would have been much better, no as heavy looking as the black. With this shoe she need a little more leg showing, about 4″ taken out of the white at the waistline. The hem detail needs to stay. It is still a great, unusual dress!

  • kayleymaybe

Wait, so she grew out her hair and then pinned it back so it looks just like it did when it was short?

Dress is ok, less crazy than a lot of what she wears.

  • Diego!

She looks nice and young (duh!), so it’s an IN for me, but I miss her short hair 🙁

  • Stine Vejen

Too much is going on. It looks like a mixed media painting: Speedmarker combined with watercolor.

Is it me, or has her hair grown out really fast? (I’m just envious – I’m growing out a pixie cut.)

  • Jessica O’Connell

Not in love with the shoes but I think she looks great overall. The dress is pretty adorable, it’s the perfect mix of edgy, sexy, and demure for her. Not in love with the tendrils by her ears but still amazed at how well she’s managing growing out the pixie cut while in the spotlight the entire time.

  • That is seriously adorable. I even like the shoes.

  • I think she looks terrific in that dress. My only quibble if that the thick belt loops make it look like she has an odd black strip at her waist. I think a non-black belt, like the model’s, might have served the dress better, or just lose the belt loops and belt entirely. But I like the bodice and collar; I don’t think it’s too much, but rather, just enough to keep me looking.

  • I think she looks really cute and age-appropriate here. Now I’m sure that I will watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower yet-again tonight.

  • librarygrrl64

I would have loved a piece of jewelry with this, but otherwise she looks great! It’s interesting, it fits her, the proportions are good, and it’s age- and venue-appropriate. I don’t even mind the shoes because the length of the dress balances things out a bit. Cute!

  • padma sallah

Those shoes are side view fabulous. From the front, they look like clodhoppers. But from head to ankle, she looks very lovely. All clean lines and gracefulness.

  • The shoes mimic on her ankles what is going on with the bodice and it’s a bit much, but overall it’s a great look on her.

  • Why is there a jewelry credit on this look? She’s not wearing any! Hair is tragic. Shoes are a little much. Too bad cuz cute dress.

    • If you squint, she’s wearing two itty-bitty rings.

  • teensmom99

A better version of this: http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2013/01/emma-watson-in-peter-pilotto.html–but I’m not loving it. It’s a little too much of what she’s been wearing lately and she looks so much better in other things.

  • erinbinek

    Personal best.

  • The bright spot in what was otherwise a completely dull awards ceremony.

  • Io Vee

This is aaaaaaaaaaaalmost really cute, from my perspective. I think the problem is the dress’, not hers. Namely, the black and white collar aspect is just a skosh too big, which is forcing the bust to sit just a skosh too low and for the torso of the dress to be just a skosh too short. I just want to tug the top half of the dress up an inch, leaving the waist where it is.

    I know; I am the nit-pickiest of all nit-pickers.

  • MarissaLG

So cute, excellent makeup and perfect for MTV!

  • This is really her thing isn’t it? Girl has never met a cut out she didn’t want to try. Who would have thought “short” and “edgy” would have become her to go to aesthetic?

  • marilyn

This is an improvement. She is dressing better than in the past.

  • It’s cute, and just right for the MTV awards. There’s like one element too many, but I still like it, though I’m not sure this look would work anywhere else. Her hair and makeup are cute too.

  • I adore this on her!

  • maggiemaybe

She looks pretty flawless to me. That girl really knows how to wear clothes…

  • elemspbee

    Nicely done.

  • Imasewsure

In the minority here… I don’t like it on her at all, plus I hate the hair and shoes with this outfit

  • LaSylphide

Like everything but the shoes, which should have been drowned at birth. And for somebody who isn’t tall, ultra-skinny, and drop-dead beautiful, she sure knows how to wear clothes, and even to make them look better than they deserve.

    • Tatiana Luján

Oh, the drowned at birth remark was so funny.
I’d agree with you, but I think she IS drop-dead beautiful.

    • Unvacuous

I agree on all points. I wish the collar was blue or all black though. It looks like she has lost some weight in her face, she looks gaunter than I remember. She could use some lipstick too.

  • NOPE.
That’s an optical illusion in dress form. To be fair, my main gripe is the décolletage cutout which is far too distracting and just ruins what probably would have been a lovely dress without it. Also, the shoes are too on-point.

  • Sadie-Ann

She can be really hit or miss when she does complicated necklines like this one, but she ended up with a hit this time.

  • oldbobbydraper

    what trails has she blazed?

  • JanieS

The dress is cute, but I hate the shoes.

  • Love this girl. Perfect outfit.

  • JMB_edits

Is it sort of weird that it looks like she IS the runway model???

  • stubbornthoughts

Love this. Love her. Perfect dress for this occasion.

  • Cz

It’s interesting that the cut outs on the dress mirrors the cut outs on the shoes (or vice versa).

Also, that model looks like Marion Cotillard when you first scroll down.

  • capybara_cafe

I guess I’m alone here, because I feel like that dress is a total wreck.
Not that she isn’t adorable as always, I just don’t care for the dress.
Did anyone watch this? What has she done that was trailblazing?

    • Laylalola

Something tells me she’s going to be the Hillary Swank of her generation. A lot of awards, a lot of best-dressed lists. But especially as she moves from the Harry Potter years fewer and fewer people who’d name her a list of their favorite actresses.

    • For most people, she’s still Hermione.
That’s the reason people voted for her.

  • kikisayshi

I love this on her. Every bit.

  • She’s gorgeous from the ankles up. Those shoes are hideous.

  • jetpackdino

Very well done. Perfect dress. I want a teensy bit more from the leg-shoe area, but that’s a minor quibble here.

  • She looks cute. She has a knack for pulling off somewhat complicated dresses.

  • Trisha26

Wow! Emma Watson in a look I actually like. Pretty amazing from head to toe.

  • bd73

she reminds me of ally sheedy here… my feelings on this look differ depending on the angle. love the hair and makeup.

  • berkeleygirl

Love it – not for everyone, but she pulls it off… She and Anna Kendrick both have a knack for pulling of modern looks that don’t overwhelm their tiny frames.

  • Anniebet

Appropriate for the event, not outrageous, but edgy. Love the shoes, hair, makeup. Miss Emma is one smart cookie.

  • quiltrx

I really like the dress–complicated but not overdone, and it looks great on her!
I’ll even sign off on the shoes (though the silver would have been even better) because they echo the black cutout at the neck.

  • demidaemon

This is one of those dresses that feels like a puzzle that hasn’t been properly solved.

  • Apocalipstick Now Redux

I’m uninterested in the hair, but I kind of like the dress. With Gatsby Redux coming out, I kind of wish she’d be cast as Jordan Baker.

  • Melanie

    Look at her adorable freckles!
