Emily Blunt in Victoria Beckham on ‘Jay Leno’

Posted on April 26, 2013

You’d have to pay us to watch Leno but if we did, and saw this interview, barely a word of it would register because we’d spend the entire time looking at her outfit.

Emily Blunt makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ in a Victoria Beckham dress.

Victoria Beckham Fall 2013 Collection

That’s not necessarily bad, considering looking at outfits is kind of our thing, but our initial reaction and final takeaway were both the same: “Hunh. Wonder why she chose that?”

It’s nice, though; a little odd, the combo of brown, black and an almost purple-blue.  And she’s so covered up. We suppose we like it, but she looks a little like a lawyer on Star Trek.

Cannot wait until this jerk is off the air. I like her outfit, but I think her hair color is a bit too light for her.

    • MartyBellerMask

“This shall keep your pervy eyes off my boobs, thankyouverymuch.”

    • Little_Olive

I like her so much she can almost do no wrong in my book. And in fact I dig the dress and lovelovelove that she’s not in a gyno skirt or boob-flooding.

The makeup does not go with the dress and the hair is to light for her.

Totes agree. I like the shape of the dress more than the colors, and the lipstick is just flat wrong. Still, it’s refreshing that I don’t have to feel nervous about what’s going to happen if she leans forward or uncrosses her legs. Not that I’m a prude — gay as I am, I’ll take a gander at Salma’s rack any day — but on a talk show the camera is often almost at knee level, and that requires a good sit-down dress, and that’s what this is.

I don’t really know why but the dress is very distracting. I think maybe the brown/black cutout is not working here. I have to say it is an OUT for me, for reasons I don’t even understand.

    • Golfkat

It gave me sci-fi vibes too when I watched the interview. It’s actually very ‘her’, she tends to go for more simple designs and slim fitting silhouettes with long lines.

    • crash1212

      Girl has great posture.

    • lrober03

Yep, she looked great in Devil Wears Prada

    • amian3

Aaannd it is not even May and the stars are showing up in fall outfits that look like fall outfits. Do not like.

      • demidaemon

Seems about par for the course.

        Climate change!!!!1!!!1

I don’t know about CA, but the weather in TX has been crazy. For example, this week will be in the 90’s. Until Thursday, when it will be in the 50’s. It’s been like this all spring. A couple of weeks ago, it was 80 during the day, then a front came through and I had icicles on my roof when I woke up the next day.

    • Coolekat

The Star Wars analogy is spot on. Emily’s definitely in a class with Seven of Nine.

      • EAV

She’s cosmic in any universe…whether it be in the 24th century, or a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, apparently.
        :-)

Star Trek lawyer is the look I am from now on going to aim for, sartorially. Because this is uhmaaaayyyzing.

      • http://profiles.google.com/claudiaberry Claudia Berry

right? i wanna be a layer in Star Trek, too. An evil lawyer who gets to shag Benedict Cumberbatch in the next movie.

        • http://bowtiesare.blogspot.com Meg Smitherman

Yes! I’m sure he needs representation if he’s going to be wreaking havoc all over the galaxy. Sexy bastard.

If shagging BC is the direction, I’m on for any role

      • drdarke

“STAR TREK Lady Lawyer” nails that look, TLo! It’s – nice, but it really does look like Conservative Wear – In SPAAACCEEEE!

Maybe her outfit could get together with PROJECT RUNWAY Winner Michelle’s “DOCTOR WHO Collection” for a drink sometime….

    • musicandmochi

Honestly, I really like this dress! Love the unique color combo. Nore proof that you don’t have to bare all to look like a star.

That being said, I wouldn’t be opposed to the black in the center being cut out to make a nice V. It’s spring, after all. And either way, I wish the top had looked either more blouson or more form-fitting. Because the fit on her shoulders is really quite awkward.

The pink lipstick actually looks pretty great! And I usually hate it because it reminds me of those nauseating Barbie chapstick/lipstick things.

      Her hair hurts my heart.

    • SugarSnap108

I love it actually. Nothing wrong with being covered up when you’re covered in pretty.

    • Tatiana Luján

      I like it.

just curious: do you like letterman? or conan, or craig ferguson?

      • Qitkat

Nobody can ever come close to Johnny Carson.

    • bellafigura1

Two thoughts: wrong season and WHERE ARE THE SHOES.

    • girliecue

Star Trek lawyer?…. I think Counselor Deanna Troi dressed better than this. Emily still looks great, though.

    • Anniebet

A very odd choice indeed. You’re getting millions of people to look at you for several minutes on national (US) television, why not dress with some pizzazz? The colors are baffling. Plus, she was so gorgeous as a brunette, wish she’d stuck with it instead of this medium, wishy-washy blonde.

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

      I kinda love it.

    • Hetha Innis

VB’s dresses just demand that the wearer be standing for full appreciation. It has no presence whatsoever in this scenario. She could be wearing some TJ Maxx outfit and we’d not know the difference. And what’s with the phoning it in on the hair?

    • http://www.facebook.com/conysoledad Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

Oh God, this is awful!! A huge NO!!!
Is that a nipple you can see on her left boob on the second picture?

    • Monday1900

It is a little Star Trek but I like it. I had a skirt from Target in the 80s that was that precise shade of blue. I feel old.

    • jetpackdino

She seemed self-conscious in the dress, too. She kept her arms folded over it the whole time.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1229199146 Tara Gray Burkholder

My impression with her hair is that when it was darker, she got lumped in with all the other brunettes with big blue eyes, ie, Zooey Dechannel, Katy Perry, etc. I think she went lighter to differentiate herself.

    • gurl boy

      She’s stunning!

    • BrooklynBomber

I kind of like it, especially that it’s not cleavage-spilling, thigh-baring talk show typical.

      • Jackie4g

I kind of like you for appreciating that. OK I like you anyway, but I’m glad you said what you said.

        • BrooklynBomber

          smooches :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

Exactly! Star Trek-anything isn’t a bad look to aspire to…

    • rainwood1

I love that shade of blue, but agree about Leno. He’s smarmy and lame at the same time, which is not an easy combo to pull off.

    • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

“like a lawyer on Star Trek” – that’s why you are world-famous bitches, TLo.

    • Vickiefantastico

Black and blue together?! Black and brown together?! My grandmother is rolling in her grave. Seriously. Those were two of her main fashion no-nos.

      • 3boysful

I used to think that way; now, black and brown is a fav combination. Black, brown and blue or purple together? Now that’s a whole different story.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

Is there something wrong with a lawyer on Star Trek?
      She looks wonderful!

    • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

I always imagine it’s really cold on talk show sets. Anyone?

      • Jo Miller

David Letterman once said that he likes to keep the temperature around 48 degrees in the studio. I imagine other studios are kept just as chilly. The lighting for the cameras creates quite a bit of heat so the temperatures must be kept lower to compensate.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

It’s a nice change to see a lady star dress like a lady, and not just like a star. Emily is insanely lovely and an insanely good actress. And I will knock everybody out of the way to shag Benedict Cumberbatch.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

It’s just so anti-spring. This is seasonly wrong to me. And the brown vesty-thing with the black turtleneck reads as “flying nun”.

    • Trisha26

      I really, really hate brown.

    • Cindy Claussen

it’s not really a spring outfit, very much fall-winter (VB fall collection)

    • Thathoodwink

After seeing Beyonce’s hideous fake/real glitter encrusted “The Blonds” boobs on Fashion Police Friday night, I need to see “covered up” until I recuperate.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

I think that’s the perfect skirt length for a sit-down interview

    • http://twitter.com/lolacestmoi Lola Channing

She looks fabulous. Simply. Fabulous. And why do all the Bri’ish girls seem to get it right? Like not having knicker and boob problems. You can look sexy while being covered and not having to worry about a crotch shot.

    • anotherkate

I like the dress, although I agree the colors are a bit strange. She has magnificent posture.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

emily blunt looks good with any hair color. thats the only positive thing i take away from this

    • shelley514

This isn’t one of Posh’s best designs. In fact, I think it’s her worst. Emily’s stylist should have rejected this one.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

My boyfriend would say “What’s wrong with looking like a lawyer from Star Trek? Or anything from Star Trek?” To which I would probably show him the grotesquely revealing alien costumes, and he would probably still say “I don’t see anything wrong with that.”

That said, I see nothing wrong with Star Trek lawyer fashion.
