Cover Girl Double Shot: Emma Stone

Posted on April 05, 2013

Apparently May is a really moody month for Emma. She’s planning on veering wildly from bubbly cute, colorful springtime Emma:

To a more severe, neutral-toned “Russian cinema star” Emma:

Frankly, we’ll take the first one. Serious, big-eyed Emma is freaking us out a little.

What a terrible positioning for the second cover shot. “Hey Em, now pretend like you’re strangling yourself but feeling casual about it. PERFECT. Cut, print, ship.”

    • Deb_Lynn

oh yeah! and she’s so hunched over too. That is desk-job back right there.

    • Jessica O’Connell

Where did her second hand go? Whoops photoshop!

    • DebbieLovesShoes

Plus she’s all crazy-eyed and stary, like Patricia on PR.

  • Andrew Schroeder

Well it doesn’t help that they probably photoshopped her eyes to make them 20% larger than they actually are…

    • lexilexi

And the left side of her face sunken in…wtf?

      • CT14

Ugh, when I start looking at the photoshop, I always get freaked. Anatomy is a beautiful thing; why must it be thrown out for anime proportions?

    • gabbilevy

Tyra made an app for that.

  • sablehunter

It looks like they Seyfrieded her eyes on the second cover. Freaky indeed.

    • barbarienne

Definitely. There has been some digital enlargement of her eyes in that second image.

I loooooove that first dress! Does anyone know what she is wearing?

    • Jennifer Allen

It looks like Erdem Spring 2011, but that would be weird.

      • CommentsByKatie

You are right, I found it when I Googled ‘Erdem Spring 2011.’ Thank you!

  • everest19

I am cracking up at “(On peut le refaire?) MON PLUS BEL ORGASME” …Good old Cosmo.

    • snarkmeister

I originally misread one of the French headlines as “le journal d’une fille au fromage” — the diary of a…cheese girl?

  • annabelle archer

Sigh. I reallllly miss unique, curvy, red headed Emma. This Emma is just like the rest of the easily forgettable and interchangeable, blonde, saltine wisps.

    • bd73

curvy? i’ve only known her to be a tall, slim and not remotely curvy. that cleavage shot is…not.

      • annabelle archer

Euphemism. One must tread carefully when discussing bodies here.
When she first came on the scene, she was slightly fuller in figure than she is now. More of the hot girl next door type.

    • VioletFem

Agreed. She looks so much better as a redhead, the blonde kind of washes her out.

  • H2olovngrl

Those are SO not her teeth.

  • kingderella

that skirt fabric is crazy cute.

  • MilaXX

Kinda ironic that Marie Claire is featuring someone wearing a white top.

    • annabelle archer

I studied that cover for the answer, but I’m missing it…why ironic?

      • MikeW_Vegas

Because Nina blasted Michelle last night on PR for making a white top for her editorial look.

        • annabelle archer

          thank you

        • MilaXX

        • DebbieLovesShoes

          Ah, good point.

  • charlotte

The first one reminds me of Michelle Williams, the second one looks like Amanda Seyfried. Where’s Emma?

  • mightbewrong

On the plus side, I’m learning some great stuff in French.

  • BrooklynBomber

What a bizarre pose in numero uno, and who’s face is that on the second one?

    • Kristin McNamara

It’s Cosmo. You’re surprised they hunched a girl over, aiming her cleavage right at the camera?

      • BrooklynBomber

        You have a point.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Picture 2 appears to be a computer rendering of what Lindsay Lohan would have looked like had she just said no.

    • JosephLamour

      Aww. Real talk.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

  • Martha Jones

The second cover is scary, but I LOVE the first cover – its the first photo that I actually like Emma as blonde. She really needs to go back to being a redhead.

Is it just me or has Emma lost a bit of her spark? She’s noticeably slimmed down in the past few months, and that’s a trick starlets use when they feel they’re losing their career edge. Emma doesn’t need to do that, she’s better than that; I think what she needs is another vehicle like “Easy A” to remind everyone of how adorable and spunky she is. From what I’ve read, everyone in the industry still adores her, so it probably won’t take too much effort to get back in the spotlight.

    • MilaXX

I think she is trying to move away from the Easy A type roles and into the more serious roles.

  • Rand Ortega

Does anyone remember those big eyed pop art paintings from the ’60’s & ’70’s? That’s what ES looks like in the 2nd picture.

  • formerlyAnon

Still don’t really think the blonde suits her. I would like the 2nd pose better if it looked more like her and less like her cousin, the one who mesmerizes you with her gaze. First pose strikes me as an awkward attempt to combine a Marilyn-esque sexpot vibe with the fun! fresh! fabulous! tone of a perfume ad for young teens.

  • alyce1213

Both beautiful. She happens to have large, wide set eyes, so big-eyed Emma is here to stay.

  • cowper

Possible Cover 1 tagline: “Make Your Boobs Bigger by Squashing Them Together with Your Elbows!” Cover 2: “Cover Small Boobs with Your Elbows!”

  • guest2visits

    Gorgeous face.
And of course, no matter where on the planet…. Cosmo is talking about orgasms.

    • formerlyAnon

Cosmo is so consistent. They’re like the MacDonald’s of magazines. Anywhere on the planet, any language, there’s a core familiarity.

  • PeaceBang

Both bizarre covers. The first is Naughty Milkmaid Who Has to Pee and the second is “Land of the Lost” glamour sleestak.

    • formerlyAnon

Oooh you are On Fire! And dead right.

    • Magatha

I think 80% of Marie Claire covers look so ‘shopped, stepped on, chewed up and spit out, that I’d never ever venture an opinion about the looks of any woman featured. The covers are not always, or even usually, ugly, but they don’t seem like photographs or portraits to me. They’re more like an obscure artist’s rendering of what a photographic portrait might look like. If I got Marie Claire’d, I’m sure I’d look way prettier than I actually am, but I wouldn’t be me. You know? It’s like why bother? Just put graphics or cartoons or CGIs on the cover.

      But it’s not a bad magazine….

    • jmorino08

Naughty Milkmaid Who Has to Pee! Brilliant! And possibly my next Halloween costume…

  • jmorino08

I much prefer the second one but both poses are ridiculous!

  • BuffaloBarbara

Did MC Australia actually photoshop her eyes to be that… weird?? Because those are bordering on Disney eyes.

I’ve never understood why she’s gone blonde. It’s just not that good a color on her. That said, she’s so pretty, I guess it doesn’t matter if she makes one bad fashion choice.

  • nannypoo

I don’t know why she’s strangling herself in the second picture, but I definitely like it better than the Girl With the Overbite at the Hoedown shown in view #1.

  • Gotham Tomato

The big eyes are Photoshop. I guess they’ve gotten tired of whittling waistlines and have moved onto making everyone look like big-eyed aliens.

    • marlie

I don’t know about the eyes, but they definitely did a number on her right arm in that picture.

  • crash1212

    I think both are lovely.

  • Andy Morris

Ugh that second cover- ‘511 ways to update your wardrobe’, would it have killed them to think of 9 more.

  • shanteUstay

I’m not in the least a fan of her face, it’s not what I consider aesthetically pretty IMHO but the make artist did a beautiful job making her up on the top cover
