Posted on April 04, 2013

Services at the Church of Cate are starting. Please rise for today’s sermon.

Cate Blanchett covers the May 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Australia magazine photographed by Steven Chee.

FACE, MOTHERFUCKERS. BOW DOWN IN THE PRESENCE OF THE FIERCE.

And now, the choir will take us all out with a hymn.

    truly, we are not worthy….

She’s perfection. And she also comes across as interesting and nice!

Her eyes are hypnotizing. LOVE her.

  • Deb_Lynn

End this service without closing ceremony or hymns; we need to all quietly depart in silent contemplation.

  • PinkySlinky

    Amen Sisters!

  • PrunellaV

    World-class beauty.

  • AndresB

Cover girl? Cover WOMAN. Thank God for that. Hymn proposal: ‘Thou art gone up on High’.
Wonder if someone had to fight tooth and nails behind the scenes to let the lines around her mouth stay… thankful for each and every one I see.

    • formerlyAnon

YES on the lines around her mouth.

The noticeable absence of the [much deeper, much more visible] lines/grooves on Kim Gordon’s face (in the YSL shoot discussed here yesterday) really diminished the impact those photos could have had. (I’m not saying they shouldn’t have photoshopped at all, just that they overdid it.)

      • BrooklynBomber

The Kim Gordon one will not load on my computer. Not yesterday, not today. Not on Chrom, not on Firefox. Spit!

        • Sobaika

          Do you have an adblocker?

          • BrooklynBomber

Oh, you know, I guess I do. I don’t know why I can see everything else, though. Thanks for thinking of that.

          • eight_of_nine

I had the same problem, I guess it was one of my Firefox extensions. Not sure why it only blocked pictures on that post, though.

          • Sobaika

Because those images are technically ads – it happened to me with the Jennifer Lawrence for Dior post. I wonder how it can tell the difference though.

          • BrooklynBomber

            Ah! I see. Thanks.

        • lovelyivy

I could only see it on IE.

          • BrooklynBomber

            I’ll try it. Thank you.

    • musicandmochi

Truly. This is how you separate the women from the girls.

Because it won’t matter what outfit you put her in (though I pity the fool who dresses her in anything short of flawless). Her face will still look perfect.

Not that her gloorious mane doesn’t help.

    • PeaceBang

I was going to suggest “How Great Thou Art” for the hymn.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

    She is an absolute goddess.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=49702581 Susan Bullard Mayer

I love that they left the little creases around her mouth. Most excellent Photoshop restraint!

    All hail Cate!

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

My worship of her may border on unhealthy. Fucking magnificent!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Cyllenius Maurice Depestre

Am I the only one to find her make up unusual?… It looks as if she’s been scuba diving all day in sunny Caribbean waters…
The more I look at it however, the more it looks like a poorly executed attempt to emphasize her eyes/gaze using Photoshop’s dodge tool.
That aside, she is lovely, as always.

    • kmk05

Now that you’ve said it, I am not able to unsee it…

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Sweet Baby Jeebus on a Rocking Horse!!!!

  • Kim O’Neill

Uggghhh. SO. GORGEOUS. It almost makes me queasy.

  • Sobaika

I could stare at that face forever, it’s so expressive. Part of why she’s such a fantastic actress.

  • MilaXX

♬ All praise Queen Cate ♬

And with that, here’s the benediction! WERQ!!

This morning I spoke of my bitterness over Gwennie snatching the Oscar from Blanchett (“Elizabeth”), and so you reward me with this post. Thank you, TLo; you made my day!

    • http://profiles.google.com/claudiaberry Claudia Berry

Right? It’s been years and I still complain about this! The Academy wanted to give it to GP, period, ’cause that vote sure wasn’t based on talent!

      • Eclectic Mayhem

It was a classic Academy eff up: they should have given the award to Dame Judi (for Mrs Brown) the year before so she was given the consolation prize of Best Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth in (let us not forget, the heavily Weinstein backed) Shakespeare in Love.

I honestly think that the Academy voters balked at the concept of having both Best Actress gongs going to two women playing the same character albeit in different movies and at different ages!

        • Introspective

Thanks for code cracking that for me. Because Cate was a fucking BOSS as Elizabeth in all installments of the series. Gwynnie was so forgettable as whomever she played in whatever movie that was for her pink dress moment.

          All hail Cate the great…

          • PeaceBang

I still curl my lip in disdain when I remember that night and Gwynnie’s puerile sniveling in that ill-fitting pink gown.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571205045 Kent Roby

There was also the general feeling that Gwennie got the statue for the combination of her work in Shakespeare in Love and Closing Door, since they both came out the same year. Closing Door was a cool movie IMO, but 100 Paltry (oops, Paltrow!) performances will never add up to “Elizabeth”. Of course, Blanchett herself was later rewarded with her Supporting statue to “make up” for the Elizabeth oversight, but it’s still not the same! Anyhoo, ALL HATE QUEEN CATE! And, yes, she is gorgeous here!

    • Snailstsichr

My sister and I have had a private joke for years that on the set of the Talented Mr Ripley, every time Cate looked at Gwen her eyes were saying, “You Bitch, you stole my Oscar.” Now that I’ve said that, I dare any of you to watch that movie and not see it!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571205045 Kent Roby

        hilarious!

    • Sunraya

Biggest f up ever by the Acadmy. Really? Really? Cate was incredible as Elizabeth in both movies.

  • Qitkat

For anyone interested, I found an excerpt from the article on the Harpers Bazaar Australia website. I didn’t link because it takes time to moderate. Pretty easy to find though.

Here’s one of her quotes that I like.
“Couture is a cabinet of curiosities. It’s a place of experimentation and I think the red carpet is a great place to display it.”

  • jorinde

I just have to show off a little: my best friend made hats which Queen Cate wore last week while playing with her kids in the park!
My friend sews for a children’s clothing designer (a tiny 2-women-company who only have one small atelier for all their work), the boyfriend of which works on the film set with George Clooney and Cate and Matt Damon, and he gave everyone of them some children’s stuff out of the line. Next day Cate was photographed in the park with the hat on that they initially gave her children… I’m so excited. Cate has been my heroine for decades.

    • AnneElliot

Ooh, post a link!! I’d love to see the photos. Congratulations to your friend!

    • Sunraya

Who did George give the children’s hats to? Stacy?

      • jorinde

ahh good question! didn’t ask about that. I’m quite convinced they gave him sth out of the tiny grownups line they have included. mostly for mommies though.. hm

  • charlotte

If I were her, I would frame this picture and put it up in my living room.

  • StellaZafella

One picture, worth a thousand posts.

  • Pterodactyl111

    ELF QUEEN

  • Pants_are_a_must

Our Cate in Australia, gorgeous be thy name. Thy movies come, thy acting be done in film as is onstage. Gives us this serving of WERQ fierceness, and forgive us our fugs, as we forgive those who fug against us. And lead us not into pattern clash, but deliver us from jumpsuits, for the awesome and face giving our yours, amen.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

      *crosses self* Amen.

    • PeaceBang

Sheer genius. Now if I could only get away with sharing this from the pulpit.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Tomorrow I have errands to run. When anyone speaks to me, I am not going to say anyting. I am going to give them this pose and this face.

  • Coolekat

    She looks gorgeous.

  • CarolinLA

Shouldn’t the choir take us out with a HER?

  • GorgeousThings

Even though they have done a lot of photoshopping (too much highlight on the cheekbones), she still looks amazing, and not plastic. Luv. Huh.

    • filmcricket

Is it me or does her face look stretched?

      • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

        Like yeah!

      • alyce1213

Five o’clock shadow — poor lighting (and on the COVER!)

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

    Hallelujah!

  • prettybigkitty

    Bow down!

  • Airkisses

I love the tagline… Chaos is My Friend as opposed to Gwenith Paltrow’s All Is Good or whatever from yesterday.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    We are unworthy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

You all must be looking at a different cover? Her face is oddly plained, elongated and colored….I love her but did not recognize her!

  • Mlzx

Love her, but she looks like she has a ski goggles tan line. What is up with the lighting?

  • jetpackdino

All shall love her and despair!

So much talent, so much beauty, she can’t be mortal. She is worthy of worship.

  • Tuneful54

It’s odd-looking, because it looks stretched vertically.

  • carnush

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

I feel sorry for whoever designed her dress. It’s being totally overwhelmed by her radiance. She might as well be wearing a white tank top, I’d never notice.

  • http://aimstar-thrives.blogspot.com/ Aimée Van Zile

    she is so stunning.

  • ConnieBV

Though I walk in the valley of putty pumps and exposed zippers, I will fear no evil, for Cate is with me. Your FACE and your FIERCE comfort me.

  • PeaceBang

Out of nowhere I suddenly remembered going to see “Bandits” and being totally riveted from the first moment I saw her onscreen. I had never heard of her. And then again in “The Shipping News.” Cate, I love you long time!

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

oh my…..I feel silence an awe are the only appropriate reactions

  • Sunraya

She gives great face without looking angry. She is also aging beautifully, although I now,she is still young. When I co,pare her to Gwenyth, I laugh.

  • alyce1213

She is stunning and unusual, but the lighting on this cover gives her a five o’clock shadow, not a good thing.

  • DesertDweller79

    Sigh. She’s my fashion hero.
