Christina Hendricks in NYC

Posted on April 23, 2013

Clear the street, bitches. Miss Christina is SERVING.

‘Mad Men’ star Christina Hendricks out and about in New York in a Altuzarra dress paired with Stella McCartney pumps.

Altuzarra Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Nadja Bender

Stella McCartney Gold Glitter-Finished Faux Leather Pump

Walk it like you own it, girl. Perfection.

Maybe not so much on the shoes, though.

Jesus Christ. She almost proves the Barbie rule false.

    • Tatiana Luján

      What is the Barbie rule?

      • TheAmericaness

The Barbie rule shows what Barbie would look like if she were a real woman without changing the proportions of the doll. Basically she would be like 7″ tall and and her breasts would be so large she wouldn’t be able to stand. So I exaggerate on the height part with Ms. Hendricks here, but her bosom is pretty impressive.

        • Tatiana Luján

  • BigGirlDownNow

    Oh yeah!

  • She wore that on The Daily Show last night, and I liked it much better walking than sitting down. She still looked gorgeous of course, and it was nice hearing her say intelligent things.

    • Sarah

She looked a little too pilgrimmy when seated. You need the full head-to-maybe-ignore-the-shoes for this look to work.

  • CC06

She looks good here, but why is she walking in the middle of the street?

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Add that to my personal post it note list of things I could actually do that up my mere mortal chances of werqing a look-
      1. Hair flip (a la Miranda Kerr)
      2. Sun glasses (a la Eva Mendes)
      3. Walking down the middle of the street (a la Christina Hendricks)

      • Introspective

game. set. match. Christina SERVED us face and body today.

but yeah massive cluster on the footwear front Stella. I know we keep covering this here on the boards, but what in the actual fuck is with this girl??? I blame her dad and his limitless cash for unleashing her shittery on the world.

    • e jerry powell

Did you notice? She’s being PHOTOGRAPHED.

    • MK03

She wore that on The Daily Show, so I’m guessing she’s about to head backstage.

      • e jerry powell

No, actually not. She’s walking south on Broadway, a little south of the Broadway Plaza hotel (roughly, Broadway and 27th). TDS studios are further uptown, on 11th Avenue between 51st and 52nd. So she’s walking the wrong way down Broadway to get to the studio (which is some twenty-three blocks north and six-plus blocks to the west).

    • Kathy Schrenk

Traffic stops for her. She is above arbitrary rules about where vehicles go.

  • Wow! Also what perfect alabaster skin!

    • YourLibrarian

Seriously! I also have pale skin, but it doesn’t look anything like hers. Her legs look amazing and healthy, while mine look sickly. she just pulls it off so beautifully.

      • Celandine1

I am beginning to wonder what secret she knows. What is she doing to keep that perfect skin? Does she bathe in the blood of virgins or something?

  • schadenfreudelicious

those shoes looks like they come with their own footlets, way to go once again Stella….

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Yes! I see so many women on the subway with “visible peds” … they’re supposed to be inside your shoes not sticking out of them. (Many subway riders listen to ipods or read. But not me, I pick apart what everyone’s wearing.)

      • Seriously tho – those shoes are prob over $500 and they come with little baby-sock lookin’ things.

        • butterflysunita

I wish she’d worn the boots on the model instead of those ugly shoes. The boots would be more weather appropriate, too. Since it is sadly still cold here.

        • They’re also probably over $500 and made of IMITATION LEATHER. I can not get over what a complete and utter rip off the whole Stella McCartney brand is. I can get imitation leather (a.k.a. pleather) shoes at Payless. And, well, pay less.

          • MK03

Oh, but it’s so passe to call it “imitation leather” these days. Now it’s VEGAN leather. Such a chic, not-at-all-pretentious way of saying “plastic”, no?

          • Actually, to get technical (I work with the stuff everyday) Vegan Leather is PVC-free, and pleather is not, and there is a definite quality (and smell) difference.

But yeah, let’s not pretend it isn’t the hide of the plastic beast.

          • MK03

Really? Interesting. So if it doesn’t contain PVC, what is it made of?

          • There are still usually some plastic-based components (polyester, acrylics, microfibers, etc.) but not the VOC-emitting fiesta that is PVC, at least in my industry (books.) Fashion might play looser with it, but certainly anything as high-end as Stella McCartney would be using Vegetan or Florica or similar.

          • rottenkitty

Well, her mother was a well-known vegetarian. Perhaps she’s trying to continue the family tradition by not using animal products like leather. And I’ve seen crappy nylon Prada bags selling for hundreds of dollars, too. This is a “you’re paying for the name” thing.

      • capybara_cafe

I totally thought that’s what it was at first. I was shocked that no one would have pointed out to her that they were showing….and then I got to the picture of the shoes, lol.

        • SRQkitten

And like the rest of the kittens you then said “Stella McCartneh…. Of course”

      • jorinde

I always pretend to be reading – to make sure nobody notices me when I observe other people’s clothes… don’t underestimate the subway readers!

      • LaurieRoz

Do they lay against the foot when they’re being worn? If so, then they would look like peds. I thought they sat up away from the foot, making them look more like tinted windshields!

      • Jennifer Coleman

I have to salute Stella on how she creatively goes the distance on making her designs fug. She usually starts off by designing something not terrible, but then inserts an element that blows the whole thing up. That takes talent!

        • demidaemon

          Hehehehe! Also, excellent point.

  • Sunraya

I just can’t stand the no stockings look. She looks half dressed to me.

  • Frank G

I cannot WAIT until you discuss her post-pep talk-second-wave-fem outfit when she walks into the office in probably the most expensive thing she has ever worn.

I am still unclear about what her interaction with Harry meant. I tried to read the whole “morning” and his reply “afternoon” but can’t figure out. Was it her way to say “I’m a partner” or willingness to put it behind her?

    • Laylalola

As for the interaction — Harry was still daring to act dangerously insubordinate to a partner, emphasizing that it wasn’t morning at all when she came in but past noon (I want to say 1 o’clock, I did see it, but can’t recall now). But something tells me she’ll deal with him later.

    • Laylalola

As for the interaction — Harry was still daring to act dangerously insubordinate to a partner, emphasizing that it was past noon when she came in (I want to say it was 1 o’clock, I did see the time but can’t recall exactly what it was now). She’s definitely moving past certain lower-level preoccupations (like with time cards and office supplies) while Harry’s still at that level (preoccupied with the precise time she comes in) — but as a partner I think she’s going to Deal With Him Later.

  • Catiline

Please excuse me while I bow the fuck down.

  • Maryanne525

Yes, Miss Thing – from Naughty School Marm down to Drag Toes, owning all of it. (Okay, so maybe not those exact shoes with that exact dress, but I love them separately.)

  • Serving Judge Judy realness.

Love the silhouette, hate the dress itself and can’t even speak about the shoes.

  • Laylalola

This does work, and she knows it! Honestly, given how hard it is for her to nail these things, it should be a Werq.

  • Scimommy

Wow. Those shoes are just… weird-looking. The rest of her looks fab, though.

  • I ordinarily love the peplum but the one she’s wearing here looks like it’s adding onto her hips! Otherwise, kudos to her for looking decent IRL for once.

  • soxonthebeach

It’s freaking cold in NYC. Why no hose?

  • bxbourgie

Be still my heart! I am so in love with this woman. Who cares that the shoes don’t really GO with the rest of the ensemble or that the hip ruching makes her look hippier than she already is or that her little “tie” is a bit askew, or that her poor breasts look like they are being squished. She’s so gorgeous. No really this isn’t werq by any means, but I’ve seen her do A LOT worse, so I’ll take this outfit, those sunglasses and that “look at me, I’m so got damn hot I’m runway walking in the middle of the street!”

  • acevedob

If I were straight, I would have a woman like this! Gorgeous!

  • ritalinsmoothie

Almost a WERK, except that the pumps are very distracting: it looks as if her shoe liners are showing.

  • hughman

The little black sneeze guard on the pumps to hide your muffin feet is extremely distracting. “HEY BUDDY, MY FACE IS UP HERE.”

  • PastryGoddess

    Baby step…Baby steps
This is the best she’s looked in a LONG time. You go gurl!

  • deathandthestrawberry

She looks great, but those shoes look like a pre-school craft project.

    • gabbilevy

She has a 3-year-old daughter. Maybe she let her design those shoes. (Or, everything she makes?)

  • The dress is rather plain, but it fits her wonderfully! I also love how confident she looks – she so often *doesn’t* look like she’s owning the sidewalk/red carpet. Her hair and makeup look great – that color lipstick is gorgeous on her.

But her shoes look like she has those footie things in them.

  • C. C. Winslow

Bet she was getting some gawks!

  • disqus_hbdPAeXyee

I think she looks fantastic….. but… isn’t it dangerous wandering around in the middle of the street in NYC??

  • Joan Arkham

I am seriously loving this severe witch/pilgrim look that’s popping up. Now to find it in a size 18…

  • MrsAtaxxia

Feels a lot like an updated version of her last suit in the latest episode (To Have and To Hold). She looks fantastic and baller.

  • That second shot of her is MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • I WANT those sunglasses, the shoes however, she can keep. She looks gorgeous.

  • I love that she’s wearing those saddlebags on her already impressive hips. Not being sarcastic here. I love that she ignore a so-called rule and it works beautifully. Also I want to touch her face to see if it feels as soft as it looks. I am creepy.

    • gabbilevy

You’re not alone. I was admiring a still shot of her from Sundays Mad Men… lady is gorgeous.

    • Louise Bryan

I love this, too, from the hem up. The bare leg – ugly, shiny shoe with black peds showing is a tad scroll-down fug.

    • Stitches

      she really is remarkably touchable.

  • Little_Olive

Now THOSE are shoes that give you hooves.

  • Janet B

    Christina deserves prettier shoes.

    • e jerry powell

      No argument there.

  • aeb1986

    It’s Joan! Circa 2013!

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She makes Marian the Librarian look hot! The shoes are pretty fug, however.

  • mhleta

Ooo, this is good! I agree about the shoes, but I’m not sure I could have handled this if she’d worn great shoes. It might have been too much for my delicate constitution.

  • Beth513

She looks fabulous…from the ankles up. Those shoes are awful.

    • Glammie

Oh, the skirt’s fit and length aren’t quite working for me. I love her from the jacket up.

  • gsk241

She wore that on The Daily Show last night, and she looked gorgeous. My gods! Her skin!

  • GURL.

I can only be grateful to the hideous shoes, because if she’d worn the boots I’d go into heart failure.

  • formerlyAnon

Given her track record, even the shoes and the in-my-opinion-unneeded suggestion of panniers on the hips do not prevent this from being in werq territory. Lower case, but still.

  • capybara_cafe

Omg those shoes. I totally thought she was wearing those little half sock things that people wear under mules, LOL. I’d like this if the top weren’t so tight. It’s doing something weird to her boobs that’s unflattering. But on second look, it might be a bad bra instead of the top…The skirt’s great though, and she looks lovely and confident.

  • M312

Strawberry Shortcake meets Aphrodite meets one classy bitch.

  • hotpaprika

I’m sorry but black doesn’t suit her.

  • stubbornthoughts

What’s it like to have beautiful curves, Chrissy? I’m a straight girl happily taken, but my GOD – do I want to cop a squeeze of her.

    – skinny girl problems

  • Jessi03

    Yes, Mama!

  • Ugh, those shoes! Everything else is fantastic!

  • GorgeousThings

    These words:

    Faux Leather

especially when taken together, explain why I abhor Stella McCartney

  • Karen Maslowski

At least they aren’t her usual go-to peeptoes.

  • crash1212

I’m not loving any of this really. Those shoes should be burned and Stella should have all her designing licenses revoked and be sent back to school for several years. I think this is all too tight and I don’t like the white up by her face. The model version looks like a lighter colored skirt, which looks better to my eye. Meh. Shoes must die.

    • Tatiana Luján

The shade of the model’s skirt is working better for me too. And I too think the shoes are awful, but I think Christina looks grat overall.

      • The model looks like The Walking Dead compared to this vibrant Redhead.

        • Tatiana Luján

I just think the outfit looks prettier when the different shade of the skirt allows the eye to notice the details of the jacket.

  • Imasewsure

The dress needs the boots but it’s a fun (but ridiculously staged) corporate dragon kind of look for her… she’s rocking those shades too

  • ccm800

the shoes are awful and look likeshe is wearing sock booties

  • MsALVA

That outfit is pretty much the 2013 version of the black & white suit Joan wore at the end of Sunday’s episode, when she gave Dawn the keys to the timeclock & supply closet.

    • makeityourself

I thought it WAS the same outfit until I saw Altuzarra’s name. Maybe she’s taking the advice given here so freely and consistently and is trying to copy the shapes of her MM costumes.

Oh, and you can drive me out of town with an angry mob, but I like her choice of shoe. (Tim, I am defending the shoe.) We know our Miss C has bad bunions and this was a quirky and comfortable way to deal with the issue.

    • pop_top

That’s what I thought too! I thought, “yes, she’s finally echoing Joan’s style.” And she looks fabulous.

  • marilyn

If she is not going to wear hosiery, she needs to put some kind of makeup on those legs. Big pasty legs do not look good with black, or any other color.

    • Peta Jones

These photos are taken with flash, her legs would not be that ‘light’ in reality. They also are extremely shapely, no matter the colour.

    • Corsetmaker

Every time there’s someone pale featured there’s a ‘pasty’ comment! It’s her natural skintone, big deal!

You wouldn’t get away with that about someone with dark skin so why should you with someone pale? Or do you think everyone with pale skin should paint themselves oompa loompa orange?

  • nannypoo

Well she is just sashaying down the avenue, isn’t she.

  • Cynica

Stella McCartney really can’t design anything, can she? Great look otherwise.

  • JasmineAM

Her skin looks like milk. My god, she is so beautiful!

  • Those shoes…it looks like she has black ped socks on. The rest of her, though, is spectacular.

    • bellafigura1

Exactly, Her Peds are sticking out her shoes, ugh.

  • I suppose it was only a matter of time before peplums appeared on shoes as well. AAARGH. However, I think she’s rockin’ it. Tough bod to dress and she often gets it wrong, but I’m with TLo. Clear the streets, bitches!

  • AmandaCathleen

She is stunning. Even dressed as a pilgrim, she would turn my head. Sharp look with the stark black and white against her gorgeous red hair.

    No comment on the shoes.

  • MilaXX

She looks good even if I do hate the pilgrim scarf.

  • E. D.

Everything is great except the shoes. Cheapo-looking stripper shoes don’t go with that outfit.

  • rkdgal

She looked fabulous on the Daily Show last night! Her makeup was amazing. Clearly Jon loves Joan, so that was fun to ee.

    • bd73

preach. and her haircut is fantastic. if she’d worn shoes that were equally “sexy schoolmarm” she’d be on fire.

  • She wore this on the Daily Show last night. Love.

  • decormaven

Does she have a skincare deal? If she doesn’t, her agent needs to get on it, pronto. That woman has fabulous skin. And this is a super look for her. I’m even ignoring those SM shoes to say that.

  • tereliz

Ugh, so right about the shoes. They are glitterocious. I’m not 100% behind the exaggerated hips on CH, but I just love everything else about this look.

  • alyce1213

Maybe not so much on the shoes? Maybe????
Ugliest shoes I’ve seen this year. The clutch is also ridiculous for this outfit.

  • She is so beautiful I think if I saw her in person I wouldn’t be able to speak. Great dress for her.

  • Rand Ortega

YES.Whoever styled her should be continuously& generously compensated to make CH look this good ALL THE TIME.

  • She made up with her stylist! I’m so pleased.

  • allisankelly

When I read they were Stella McCartney, I said out loud, “of course they are”. Stella causes me to talk out loud to myself. (She gets an A for effort, since the shoes conceal her bunions, which is a huge deal for me with her.) She looks pretty good otherwise.

  • LaSylphide

Dear God, McCartney can even ruin a pair of defenseless shoes. CH looks fantastic, though (from the ankles up).

  • oldbobbydraper

i don’t understand why it took her so long to hire a stylist worth a damn, but thank god she finally did so photos of her will stop searing my retinas.

  • snarkykitten

You werq that Laura Bennet look!

  • Trisha26

Don’t care for the suit at all, hate the neck tie/scarf thing especially. As someone who loves SPF 150 I have no issue with her white legs, but this look just seems to want hose/tights/boots.

  • guest2visits

Everything but the shoes; they belong back on Oz.

  • alyce1213

I know I’m gonna get reamed for this, but I just can’t with her hair. I know she has fine hair and likes to wear wigs or pieces to fill it out. The color is great, she’s a perfect redhead, but the quality of her hairpiece(s) is poor. It always looks like something alien landed on her head, not like hair is coming out of her head.
I live in a neighborhood with Orthodox Jewish women who must wear wigs (sheitls) for religious reasons. These women are not wealthy, strictly middle-class, but they spend a bloody fortune on their wigs — thousand$ — and it’s so worth it! The wigs are gorgeous, beautiful contemporary styles, and most important, they look completely natural. I don’t understand why her stylists don’t see it, it’s so obvious to me.

Christina is a unique beauty and she deserves a better hairpiece, just like she deserves better clothes.

    • demidaemon

I think her hair looks pretty fabulous here, so I am a bit confused as to what you are talking about in this particular instance.

      • alyce1213

I’m sorry you’re confused. I wish I could show you how much better she can do, but I can’t post a picture.
I think her hairpieces look wonky generally, but I talk about it in this particular instance because the rest of her look (except the shoes) is so much better than usual.
But, to each her (his) own.

  • lobsterlen

Shoes by Stella McCartney. That says it all.
    Everything else perfect.

  • plinkiedoodle

You’re a beautiful woman. Walk proud. Stop carrying that clutch as if you want it to hide something.

  • Damien W

Gang way world, get offa her runway! The way she sells that suit, she can wear whatever damn shoes she wants with it.

But I have to wonder — would she still be worshipped for this look if she wasn’t on a 60’s period TV show? Would we still like it without all that visual history stored up in our heads? I’m thinking not.

  • H2olovngrl

The shoes are yet another Stella McCatny design that just looks awkward

  • kathrineb

OMG Christina is getting right! This look suits her so well. The shoes aren’t good but the rest is perfection!

  • Aurumgirl

That dress is too small, and you can see it doesn’t fit at the shoulders and at the knee. She may be walking “like she owns it” but she has looked so much better in clothes that actually fit her like a glove, and not like a sausage casing.

  • Tatiana Luján

I was cranky yesterday. Saw this again and gasped. I didn’t even care that the shoes are ugly. She looks gorgeous, sexy, amazing.

  • I saw her on the Daily Show in this. Thought she looked fab.

  • From the ankles up, stunning!

  • shelley514

Ummm, NO CHRISTINA. The whole thing is a mess.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

I feel like this is an apparition. She looks AMAZING! The shoes are ick, but the rest, the head, the attitude. A+. I’m so happy for her!

  • Corsetmaker

Not bad at all. It’s a bit tight but then too tight dresses have been a curvy stars friend since the 50s! And although I’m not fond of the shoes, the slightly chunkier shape with the platform is more flattering to her proportionally than those tiny peep toes she usually uses.
And her skin is fabulous, seriously luminous!

  • imakeart

Is her skin really that flawless?

  • disqus_hbdPAeXyee

I like it better on Christina Hendricks than I do on Salma Hayek. Blasphemy?
