Carey Mulligan in Soho

Posted on April 22, 2013

Aw. So cute. She’s like a little urban elf.

Carey Mulligan seen out walking in Soho.

Proenza Schouler Fall 2013 Flat

The outfit’s nothing notable but those shoes are really, really cute. Which is odd, because we normally don’t like pointy-toed flats, but something about the proportions are just right.

Man, that’s an awful outfit. Those pants should be burned. I hate her hair color – it washes her completely out. Shoes are cute….and I normally don’t like pancake flat shoes. Also, I may need coffee, hence the negativity!

  • jetpackdino

And her smile in that second picture is so sweet. Love it.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I covet those shoes with the heat of a thousand supernovas. She looks cute but waaaaayyyy toooooooo thhhiiiiiinnnnn.

    • lizajane1776

Ezzackly! That smile? I only see the neck tendons sticking out. WAAAAAY too thin! Sally Sparrow, eat something please!

      • Kat

Hey, we don’t talk about weight on this website. Body snarking is not
allowed. It’s incredibly rude to say ‘go eat something’. It doesn’t
matter if you’re bigger, or smaller, it’s not discussed here. This blog is about fashion, not weight.

        • lizajane1776

You are right, and I apologize.

  • Lori

Pleated pants are a big ol’ N.O. and I don’t like the shoes either. Pointy toed flats with bows on the ankles. I just can’t. The sweater is OK and she looks comfortable, so there’s that.

    • Agree on the pants. I thought they were track pants? And that’s not a good sign.

  • Not loving the pleated pants but I do like the sweater and shoes. Much better, Sally Sparrow, but please step away from the blond hair dye.

  • ann greiner

what the hell happened to her neck? It looks like baby snakes are trying to escape. EEK.

  • Pants_are_a_must

I disagree. Those shoes are can be werqed by one person, and one person only. And that person is Björk.

    The sweater is cute, though.

  • Very cute in real world way.

  • Jill

Is that hair color natural or for a role? I think it washes her out.

    • CT14

Her hair makes me so sad. She needs a better blond, or maybe back to brown.

  • tween00

I wore pants like these the other day and I hoped no one would take my picture because I knew they weren’t a good look. Too big and baggy. I thought my imaginary uncles (TLo) would disapprove. Do you have to be Carey Mulligan to get away with them?

  • MK03

    Those shoes look craaaaaazy uncomfortable.

    • fursa_saida

They look a lot like my all-time favorite flats (in shape, not in color), and I’m here to tell you they were super-comfortable. (And I have really wide feet.) I was so sad when they finally bit the dust.

  • Tatiana Luján

Why is she doing that with her neck? It’s creepy.
    I don’t like the shoes.

  • formerlyAnon

She’s wearing really nice clothes and really, really nice shoes and looking dead solid ordinary. For someone who’s quite attractive and whose garments are expensive, that is.

  • jilly_d

That sweater is adorable but sorry uncles, the shoes are hideous. Coming from a fan of pointy-toe flats.

  • d4divine

She looks cute..,just needs to have a kiki with a tailor.

  • TheAmericaness

She looks cute to me. Sweater isn’t my favorite, but then I don’t have many issues if people are just out for strolls.

  • alyce1213

    Bad pants. Bad, baggy pants.
They ruin an otherwise cute look.

  • Sara__B

She’s a cutie, but the pleated, tapered leg trousers are AWFUL!

  • MilaXX

    I think it’s a cute look.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

That’s what Michael Kors calls “crazy crotch”.

  • Indovina

She looks a little Emmitt Nervend in a couple pictures, but otherwise she looks quite normal. I’m not sure about those pants or shoes, or those pants and shoes, though.

  • Peeve

I LOVE the look of the shoes, and I usually don’t like the pointy toes (pizza toes) either, but when I looked closer, they barely come past her toes, especially her pinkie toe. That could be really uncomfortable to walk in, especially in NYC.

  • pugluv

She is adorable and I LOVE the shoes!

  • PrunellaV

    Happy shoes. Sad pants.

  • Ack my only comment is my irrational hatred for those shoes.

  • This is perfect.

  • PeaceBang

She stole that entire outfit from my closet in 1983, didn’t she? And she SAVED it until today, thinking I wouldn’t remember. Well, Miss Mulligan, I DO remember.

  • Jecca2244

Cue seeing a ton of her for the next three weeks! but can she bring Marcus out, too?!

  • nannypoo

Her pants and her sleeves are too long and I don’t like her hair this way. After looking at the sweater again I realize I really hate it.

  • ankali

Those shoes are perfectly cute and perfectly her.

  • i’ve got a pair of shoes that are somewhat in that style (in GREEN!) and i get compliments on them *all the time*. 🙂

  • lizlemonglasses

I do that weird thing with my neck in pictures sometimes too, Carey! But that is not what is making you look silly. #pleats

  • Imasewsure

Love the big dorky sweater and the shoes but not them fug pants

  • fursa_saida

The shoes are making me very nostalgic for my lifetime favorite hall-of-fame flats, which died a few years ago and left me and their siblings bereft for all time. But mostly I want to say that I love that sweater, though I wish it had a little more shape to it. I dunno, I’m a sucker for a yoke. Turn those pants into, say, maroon skinnies and we are IN BUSINESS.

    • Qitkat

I like because that is such a perfect sentence about how we all feel when our favorites of any wearables go to the great yard sale in the sky.

  • If you hate pointy toed flats I think you are going to find the next season or two very taxing. There seem to be a lot of them around at the moment!

  • carnush

    LOVE. So cute.

  • The pants hurt me. 😥

  • momogus

Bleh. Boring, ill-fitting sweater. Boring ill-fitting pants. Adorable shoes. She’s a very pretty woman, but this outfit is not doing her any favors.

  • CommenterFormerlyKnownAsR

Not a fan of how the shoe looks from the front–seems like she’s wearing floating toe caps. Just odd.

  • tereliz

Don’t really like the pleated pants, but the shoes, shades and sweater, spectacular!

  • Noelle Haland

Yuck! Those shoes are hiddy! I love me some nice little flats (truly) but those were ugly when I saw the pointy toes, and then I saw the BOWS. No thanks.

  • Love the shoes. Love the sunglasses. Adorable.

  • marilyn

She needs better fitted pants, then this would be perfect.

  • christinewithanx

It is freezing here! She must be an ice elf. I don’t like pleated pants, though, ugggh.

  • trixietru

Knuckle-grazing “Daddy” sleeves on anyone over 18 really make me cringe. When its done in pairs, boy that’s even worse.

  • poggi

I am not sure I like the shoes and the baggy pants together. maybe the pants with oxfords or the shoes with a skirt?

  • stubbornthoughts

I don’t mind the look for Carey (and she really does look like a real living elf), but I’d never want to wear that outfit for myself. Sweater, yes please.

But I disagree whole-heartedly on the shoes. I hate those with the burning fires of Mordor.

  • I love pointy flats! They are salvation on summer days when work doesn’t require a suit but does require lots of walking.

  • She looks cute for walking around the neighborhood. Too bad that her sweater and pants are both a size too big. The shoes *are* cute, though.

  • I’m pretty sure you will kill a kitten if it runs into those pointy points.

  • Trisha26

If I hate one thing it’s waif-like women who hide their hands in their too-long sleeves. Juvenile.

  • kathrineb

I love the sweater and sunglasses! I really dislike the pants. I’m ambivalent about the shoes.
