Carey Mulligan in NYC

Posted on April 25, 2013

We are just loving Miss Carey’s hipster-elf springtime street looks, but this one may just be our favorite.

Carey Mulligan (pictured with husband Marcus Mumford) leaves the Bowery hotel in the East Village in New York City.

Of course that’s more “grunge elf” than “hipster elf.” We look forward to “punk elf,” “disco elf,” and “hippy elf” in the coming days.

If we sound like bitches it’s only because we’re a tiny bit covetous of that jacket she’s wearing.

HAHA! I was feeling like a bitch the entire time I was looking at these pics wishing I could afford that jacket!

      She’s adorable, of course.

    • Kimberlini

      Yes, that jacket is fantastic.

    • misstressofsylar

I covet the jacket and her husband! that 2nd to the last pic, I wish i look that cute AND adorable when I pout!

    • majorbedhead

She doesn’t look too terribly happy, but that jacket is very nice. Also? I didn’t know she was married to the guy from Mumford and Sons.

    • Danielle L

Those sunglasses are the best thing I’ve laid eyes on all week, after Bomer in plaid flannel.

    • JasmineAM

She does look adorable. I LOATHE her husband’s music, however.

    • jw_ny

She looks cute. His belt buckle looks ridiculous…but I like his cap. ;)

    • http://twitter.com/bobfoxsky Julia Fox

She looks fantastic. I love her. I love her husband and his band.
But, being from Philly, I am definitely NOT loving that Yankees hat. It’s a shame – these two were almost perfect.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I LOOOOVE Mumford and Sons, but I immediately thought… “it’s a shame about that hat.”

      • Jacqueline Wessel

Well, they are walking the streets of New York so a Yankees hat seems like a good idea.

      • http://twitter.com/VersatileChef The Versatile Chef

        It’s not even a real MFY hat – it’s a knockoff. Pffft.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

I’m a Yankees fan (sorry) and even I’m rolling my eyes at the hat.

      • librarygrrl64

Hahaha! Philly, represent! I thought the same thing. And I covet her husband.

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

Cute look. I love that jacket and covet it. A lot.

    • Spicytomato1

Cute, in a “Michael Jackson meets grunge” kind of way.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Not loving the shirt (too much 1996 for me), but the jacket is gorgeous!

    • BrooklynBomber

That is one fabulous jacket, isn’t it?

    • crash1212

I am SO not diggin’ the blonde hair on her. Is that her natural color? If so, she should smack Mother Nature and hie to the nearest salon and go darker…suits her MUCH better. If it’s for a role, she should simply refuse to accept any more jobs that require blondness. Cute outfit, though.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

This particular shade of blonde is really unflattering. Even a darker, less… yellow… blonde would work better.

      • Anne At Large

Check her out as Sally Sparrow on Doctor Who, my favorite hair I have ever seen on her EVER. Also a much more natural color for her.

      • Billie_Dawn

Did anyone see her in “An Education,” where she was wearing (I think) a brown wig? It’s amazing how much younger the brown hair made her look, and not necessarily in a good way. I wonder if she doesn’t want to go brunette because it ages her down so much (although the length of the movie wig undoubtedly was a factor in the de-aging). I do agree that this is not her shade of blonde, though. Her Sally Sparrow hair is much, much better.

    • Breatheinthegood

I like the sunglasses too but I’ll admit that the reflection in the lenses of the swarm of photographers around them makes me uncomfortable. No wonder she’s looking a bit stressed out.

      • Sobaika

Whoa – I hadn’t noticed that but they’re swarming around her!

        • MartyBellerMask

Maybe they’re swarmed around him? He’s a bigger star in the US than she is.

    • jetpackdino

Love. Adorable. Much-approving mommy-snaps of happiness from me. They grow up so fast! Holy hannah.

    • Nonmercisansfacon

What I wouldn’t do for that jacket!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Ironical accessorizing makes me stabby.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

That is a great jacket, but where did she get one of my father’s plaid flannel shirts?

    • MilaXX

The jacket is fab and she looks great.

    • Rand Ortega

A bit covetous? I’d cut a bitch & her family for that jacket. It’s amazeballs.

    • PastryGoddess

I have an idea. Someone hold her down and I’ll rip that jacket off of her. Then we can each have it for 48 hours to wear and show off.

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Wow, first picture I’ve seen of them together! I met Marcus and his bandmates in Philly a few years ago; they were all super nice and I can’t believe how they’ve blown up since then! Anyway, I along with the other BKs COVET that jacket, and those shades. She looks adorably disgruntled in that second photo from the bottom. I’m wiling to bet that’s one of hubby’s plaids that she’s sporting, too.

    • mellbell

There is something incongruous about an Englishman wearing a Yankees cap and Western-style belt buckle.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

        AND a bombers jacket.

    • http://profiles.google.com/rosatcollege Ros Clarke

I knew Marcus Mumford when he was 11. And now he is on TLo. My day has been made!

    • http://twitter.com/AnniNoone AnniNoone

Damnit! I did not need to know that Marcus Mumford had shoulders like that. HE IS NOT HALF MY AGE PLUS SEVEN! (sob!) Carey looks cute; since I’m too old for her husband, I’m glad he scored himself a darling hipster elf.

      • MartyBellerMask

“Half my age plus seven” That is a perfect cutoff point. For lusting anyway. I wouldn’t actually *date* someone that young…

    • alyce1213

      Grunge? Where?

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

A tiny bit covetous? I just threw my green one (that I stole from Olivia Munn earlier) on the floor. gimme-gimme!!

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Weird, right? Apparently they met at church camp when they were kiddies back in jolly old England, and got back in touch a few years ago.

    • E. D.

      Love the jacket!

    • Anniebet

She’s cute – covet the jacket – but let’s not kid ourselves… it’s him we’re looking at. And if I squint a little, he looks a bit like my BF. Honest.

    • http://twitter.com/VersatileChef The Versatile Chef

She’s cute. The husband would be cuter without the hat with the Insignia of Evil.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Ha! As a Red Sox fan, I have to agree with you.

    • Imasewsure

I’m not cool enough to rock that jacket but I will take all the rest, starting with those shades

    • Jecca2244

I love him. I love her. I love that they were pen pals long before either of them became famous. He is insanely talented. Heard him recently sing a capella in front of 15 k people. heaven.

    • Janet B

He wears his jacket very well, so I’ll forgive him for the silly Yankees hat

    • Beth513

I did not know that they were married to each other! I totally approve of this coupling and her jacket. I love his music, but his outfit not so much.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

I’m bracing myself. I think I’ve enjoyed everything Carey Mulligan has done so far. But I’m so nervous she’ll up and Anne Hathaway on me once Great Gatsby comes out. Please please please, God. She was in my favorite episode of Doctor Who! It would be so cruel.

    • julnyes

As a life long New Yorker, lifelong Yankee Fan, Doctor Who Fan (who wishes Careyhad become a companion after Blink) and a Mumford and Sons Fan – I heartily approve of everything going on in these pictures!

    • demidaemon

      Why?

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Celebrity relationship time is so different to other people’s relationship time. Wasn’t it only a year ago that she was living in hotels after a bad break-up?

    • bellafigura1

They are perfect. I absolutely love HIS looks too — a real guy, not a narrow sprite in a tiny suit. I heartily approve of him. And I’m thrilled you love her look — it’s pretty much my go-to for trucking around the city.

    • Heather

Wow, didn’t realize that she was married to the Mumford and Sons guy.

    • MartyBellerMask

His belt buckle has an “M” just in case you weren’t sure. ;)
No, really I love that they are a couple. I love being surprised at couples because it means they really are succeeding at keeping private lives private. And it’s not just BS they spout off in interviews.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

      I want those sunglasses!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

ya, that jacket is gorgeous. so is his, actually.
