Yea or Nay: Dolce&Gabbana Fall 2013 Shoes

Posted on March 21, 2013

“The shoes of the Mosaics Collection are as intricate as the clothes. A huge variety of materials have been experimented with, from wood, to metal, velvet and lace. Exquisitely fashioned, crystal embellished, encrusted with mosaic like tiles and even a golden birdcage with delicate flowers; collection inspired by the mosaics of Sicily’s Cathedral of Monreale.”

We’re keeping this one real simple after that mega-recap we just wrote:

Dolce&Gabbana Fall 2013 Shoes: YEA or NAY?

Maybe a touch on the flashy side for us mere mortals, but stunning art objects in their own right.

  • jetpackdino

    YEA. Verily.

  • YEA!!!!

  • moppet

They’re flashy, but quite a few of those shoes look remarkably wearable. I like!

  • CommenterFormerlyKnownAsR

yea! They look like came straight from a museum (in a good way).

  • Yay! No platforms!

  • gabbilevy

YEA! (Well, maybe not the cagey/flower ones.) But where this collection looks a little nuts in the clothes, it’s GORGEOUS as shoes.

    • conniemd

Agree yea to all by the cagey/flower ones which were just strange. But I loved the mosaic and jewels on the shoes.

      • DeborahJozayt

I could see Zooey or one of the kid starlets going apeshit over those flowercage shoes.

        • as long as zooey doesn’t wear them with heavy black tights.

  • Maryanne525

YEA. Couldn’t necessarily find many reasons to wear, but they look like pieces of art.

  • carolynmo

I really like the kitten heel slings.

    • Deb Oswald

I am always looking for cute, stylish kitten heels, they are hard to find!!

  • has there ever been a NAY at these kinds of posts?

  • MilaXX

mostly YEA! Hate all the birdcage ones and the mosaic with the face. Otherwise I could get behind quite a few of these.

  • Rachael

Yes, with the exception of the ridiculous platforms (they would be a yes if they weren’t quite that high) and the strange cages

  • teensmom99

Love ’em and want to send some over to the Mad Men ladies (though Jessica Pare could have used a monotone version of the kitten heeled slingbacks). Think how much more fabulous some of these would have been with Christina Hendricks’ black dress. Okay, I’m a shoe person and some of them are crazy but a black dress is a great time to go for crazy.

  • formerlyAnon

  • Bleu06

Hell YES for the last pair of gold pumps, I may be a bit bored of Dolce at the moment but no one does decadence like they do…Bravissimo!

  • PeaceBang

YAY. Not all of them, but many of them are ex-quee-zeet.

  • Nice to look at, but not wearable imo, except the last one- I want!

  • thelovelydove

I hate kitten heels, but I love most of these, especially the birdcage ones!

The red lace pair with the beading would have looked incredible with Christina Hendrick’s black dress. 🙂

    • Chickadeep

YES to the red lace shoes with CH’s black dress (which has also been shortened to knee length).

  • These shoes give me life.

  • Isabel

Maybe – if they tell me how to keep them immaculate on a dirty city street, then I will change my vote to Yea

    • lovelyivy

Yup. These are the shoes I’d wear to a ball, not the shit-kickers you need to run around NYC in the snow.

  • notterriblybitter

Yea to all of the them; they’re just gorgeous.

  • JulieTy

Love (and I’m not usually a D&G fan) — especially the gold kitten heels and the velvet ones with cloisonné heels.

  • Missy Covington

Am I showing my age when I say that I think they’re tacky as hell? It’s like they were designed by the people who wanted the Versailles house. Maybe I just need more coffee. These are making me cranky.

Edit: Exceptions=the red lace pair and the last pair skirt tacky by a hair.

  • LOVE

  • Boo to whoever had ashy heels in slingbacks. No bueno.
The last pair are the only pair I really love- they are everything i love in a shoe. The others look like old couches, with the velvet and the chunky heels. Not for me. Not a fan of kitten heels- they feel like heels that didn’t try hard enough.

  • bbates62

I think kitten heels and slingbacks are always dreadful, so the kitten heel slingbacks are a nay, but yay yay yay to the rest. I’m a sucker for anything that’s so unabashedly ridiculous.

  • Tamara Hogan

I love all of the kitten heeled sling-backs.

  • YEA fun!

  • UsedtobeEP

These are beautiful. Many of them are not wearable but some really are. Would want all of the low heels.

  • With the exception of the mega-high platforms, I give the rest of the collection a “YEA.” They’re beautiful and elegant and lady-like. I want them all.

  • Jessi03

Wooooo! (That is a very excited Yay)

  • hughman

I miss the infamous lucite heel with a live goldfish.

    • susan6

Was that an ACTUAL real thing? I thought it was just a fictional joke in “I’m gonna get you sucka”.

  • Practically: NAY, artistically: yay.

  • Yea!

  • Monabel

Talented amateur craft projects. Pretty craft projects, though.

  • I also loved the birdcage ones… I would wear pretty much all of these with demure clothing though.

  • mary McCall

Absolutely gorgeous low heeled shoes!!!! It proves women don’t have to risk deforming their feet to have elegant shoes.

    • Louise Bryan

I was just thinking how marvelous that the shoes have a variety of heel heights, with the kitten heels just as styling as the super-heels. It’s just a shame they don’t make them in my size.

  • rumcg66

YEA. I mean, yeah, some of them are works of art and not particularly practical, but most of them are actually quite wearable and they’re all gorgeous.

  • deltabronze

Nay. Interesting as art, but mostly a bitch to wear.

  • Yay!!!

  • Kimmu

I would cut someone for the low heeled caged pair 4th from the bottom.

  • RedRaven617

Yeah. I’ll take one of each one with a kitten heel. Gorgeous.

  • Huh. Not sure. Some are amazing, some are crazy, and some are (dare I say it) kind of dowdy. Huh. So a tentative maybe for me.

  • I saw the thumbnail and thought ugh, but I love almost all of these. Every pair that doesn’t have a face.

  • I say Yay but only about half of the lot is wearable…

  • Wellworn

Love the slingback kitten heels. Would love them if they were flats too. But I have never loved high heels.

  • Those saffron-colored wedges!

    I. DIE.

  • Alyssa

I’ll take all the kitten heels and the last pair!

  • RebeccaKW

I love a good platform wedge. Some of these are very ‘Clueless’ to me.

  • myristica_fragrans

i’m down with everything but the kitten heels.

  • Mistie Holler

Love them. Especially love the woman on shoe #10’s earrings. And the mosaic-heeled shoe.

  • Chickadeep

Insanely refreshing to see the lack of platform pumps. The birdcage ones look like costumey, 1940s-era experiments (fun, if not street-ready). Loving the lower heels and classic pumps in the mix! Especially digging the low-heeled, pointy-toed slingbacks. Wouldn’t complain if someone gave me No. 2, 6,8,9,11 & 14.

  • mjude

YEA! i dont care i want them all & the ones i cant wear i display as art 🙂

  • susan6

A mix of yay and nay. Yay to the embellished-yet-dainty kitten heels. The chunky/clunky/ridonk overly ornate platforms would be improved by application of a flamethrower.

  • Wow. Definitely YAY. Works of art. My favorites (and probably the only ones I could actually wear, but who cares about practicality!) are the red lace pumps.

  • I love the baroque look to these, though I agree that the bird cages are a bit much. The mosaics and lace are lovely though.

  • zenobar

Those birdcages are batshit cray…and I LOVE THEM.

  • mhleta

YEA! And praise Jesus for the return of a sensible, but sexy heel! I love the low kitten heel but they’ve been really hard to find. I really hope these trickle down to us mortals.

    • Jojojo

      My exact thought!

  • marilyn

Nay, except for the last one. However, 1 good shoe is not enough to save the whole bunch. With the exception of the last one, you are looking at what will be donated to charity and snide comments will be made about this tacky fad that comes and goes very quickly.

  • VicD

The flower cages and the 7 inch heels are ridiculous, but most of the rest are awesome. Particularly happy to see kitten heels back.

  • SewingSiren

They’re all over the place as far as silhouette, heel height, heel width, and toe shape go. A bit schizophrenic as far as season goes too.

  • peachy

wow these are fantastic. i love all of the embroidered ones especially. the birdcagey looking ones, not so much.

  • VicksieDo

    YAY! Gorgeous

  • MoHub

Wait! The beaded red one looks like an actual shoe!

  • another_laura

I’m surprised to be writing that I really like these! Small exception are the birdcage ones. Those velvet Mary Janes with the ornate heels are cute and the final, gold ones? Wow!

  • Tory

I want the pretty princess shoes give them to me noooooowwwwww!!!! *tantrum*

  • samo_samo

Yea! I would absolutely wear most of these. Beautiful!

  • I really like the blue velvet ones but the platforms and birdcage things are a bit too nutty for me. And I’m also irrationally opposed to kitten heels.

  • They are all insane and over done and crazy and I want every single one of them.

  • Imasewsure

Yeah to all but the gigantic heels which belong on a shelf but not a foot (ok Yeah to those too)

  • jilly_d

This collection really runs the gamut from stunningly gorgeous to ungodly hideous. For that, I’ll give it a YEA

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Yea!!! Lower heels and kitten heels….I’m so glad they brought ’em back! This collection may not be completely wearable, but it sure is pretty!

  • MissAmynae

    Shoe Porn.

  • ankali

YEA, although the most exquisite of these (the birdcage platform!) are also the least wearable.

  • unbornfawn

Yea. Although some of them should only be seen on shelves and not on feet.

  • MzzPants

YEA! Some of them look like they could be worn by real women and they are gorgeous.

  • libraangel

YEA for the mosaics and kitten heels and velvet, but the birdcage I would rather have on my head

  • Anniebet

Hope there’s a special heaven for inspired designers who get things so damn right that all we can do is gape in awe. Most of those are magnificent. From the shoe shown on the front page, I thought this was going to be freak footwear time, but we get this beautiful assortment, kinda like a candy box.

Too bad those models don’t have a bodyguard a la Gaga to hold on to when they walk in those super high platforms.

  • jetpackdino

These shoes are so beautiful I keep logging back on to stare at them. I want to buy them just so I can have them and look at them, I wouldn’t even wear them. Dear me I know that sounds crazy but LOOK at those SHOES!!!

    • jetpackdino

And the irony is that just yesterday, my fabulous and beautiful gay nephew said, “I can’t let you out of the house in those sandals Aunt M. Everything above your shoes is great, but I can’t let you wear those sandals.”

Truth be told I was wearing them with socks, so.

Dolce & Gabbana would solve everything.

  • ConnieBV

I would cut any of those bitches for even the ugliest pair.

  • Airkisses

    Lovely! IN!

  • rloliveira

Oooooooh, I’m kind of loving these. Most of them anyway. The jeweled ones feel very Russian.

  • I don’t care for the blocky heels but the more delicate shoes are gorgeous!

  • Th_xx

I’ll give my life for the last pair.

  • HELL YES. Have them all wrapped up and sent to me. Well, I suppose you can keep the ones with the solid platform heels. They’re not really me and I wouldn’t want to seem TOO greedy.

  • spooki C

Clunkers! But there are a few hidden gems and the kitten heels were refreshing.

  • Yosa Addiss

  • watchmeboogie

YEA!! Almost every pair is to die for.

  • MK03

    YEA. Fucking fabulous.

  • alyce1213

ART SHOEGASM for me. I covet all and could actually wear about 4 of them.

  • yea to the max this is walking arT buy me annnnnnnny one

  • unpious

The caged-heel sandal: I want to get married in those shoes.

  • Trisha26

YEA.The birdcage/mosaics are way over the top gaudy, but better that than boring. Love the gold filagree and what looks like wood-inlay platforms and the gold and red more conventional pumps and slingbacks.

  • allie wallie

    These are gorgeous.

  • lrhoff

  • Big fat YAY on that one. These are marvelous. Much better than last year’s collection of black widow clothing & accessories. I will be happy to NEVER see another person wearing those messes.

  • I’m desperate for those birdcage shoes. Actually, I’m desperate for a lot of these.

  • Pterodactyl111

  • sleepycat

Iove the birdcage wedge/platform. Oddly I like these better then the actual clothes.

  • crash1212

YEA. Gorgeous. I gravitate to the kitten heels, but that last pair of heels and the wedge 11th up are TO DIE.

  • yea

  • Goooorgeous. Can’t wait to see them on the red carpet!

  • a_liking

I don’t care what all y’all say, the wire cage & flower platforms give me LIFE. would wear them in a heartbeat if I could pull them off.

  • Carly Warnock

Nay. This are tacky looking and something no one under 60 should wear.

  • Contralto

YES YES YES, especially the last pair.

  • carolie_king

Yea! Very pretty, and thank Gabbana for kitten heels, says the already-tall-enough girl.

  • geans

    Also, YAY!

  • lobsterlen

Yeah! Furthermore for the most part you wouldn’t need a handler holding you up while wearing those shoes.

  • YEA!

  • elemspbee

  • YEA. Such a nice variety of heights, so much intricacy–such an anodyne for the putty plain pumps that have been overwhelming us! Put one of these with a LBD and it would be amazing…I want almost all the kitten heels!

  • ballerinawithagun

Yea! Reminds me of shoes that I wore in the Seventies, except they didn’t cost a fortune back then.

  • MoreShoes

The shoes YEAH, th clothes of that collection, NO. I’d feel like a priest wearing them. But the shoes have the right amount of bling.

  • hellkell

YEA!!!! They are so Italian, I love them. Except the kittens heels, those things are deathtraps.

  • matthewmaurice

A bit much with the baroque thing, but it’s better than Prada’s S/S 2012 “Hot Rod” collection.

  • librarygrrl64

Nay to the chunky heels and platforms, but the others are pretty. Velvet!!!

  • lalahartma

    Giving it a yay!

  • Vickiefantastico

Wiping the drool off the floor… That goes beyond fashion, gentlemen. That’s art.

  • maggiemaybe

The birdcage with roses are totally batshit but the rest of them fab. I love the big chunky mosaic heels and the velvet.

  • momogus

*fainting* Those shoes are spectacularly beautiful. And I don’t even love shoes.

  • mmc2315

Surprisingly myself, for the most part, it’s a YEA. I dig the decorative chunky heel on the simple velvet/suede tops.

  • sweet_potato

    I love them all.

  • Indigo54

Wow. Why couldn’t I have been born rich?! They’re just beautiful!

  • Buffy

    yes please!

  • barbarienne

They’re all much too intricate and glittery for standard wearing, but even in their extravagance they’re well balanced, pretty, and fun. Also, they make the European History major in me giggle happily.

I like the variety–something for everyone.

  • up with pod people

holy fucking god every single one.

  • Puckndc

    Kittens are adorable..

  • CommentsByKatie

Love them. I love the birdcage and flower shoes more than the Catholic symbology ones, but I love them all.

  • chitowndg

yay, some are great shoes, some are wearable art, and some are just art.

  • NNgela

  • silaria

These are gorgeous and I want them, and I rarely care about shoes. The birdcage heeled sandal, though, is about the most perfect pair ever made. <3

  • YAY!!!

  • RuthGo

Are you insane? As in as in can be, yes, yes, yes.

  • AmeliaEve

Swoon! J’adore. So much rich color and texture, and the low heels are wonderful bonus prize. YEA.
