  • I covet

  • Wait, what? These are purses inside of purses? Yuck.

  • Sobaika

They’re cute and fun, but I can’t say I would pay top dollar for them. I much prefer the more whimsical ones (like the crown).

  • so it’s an overpriced clear clutch showcasing where you keep your “lady items”? ok…

  • MilaXX

I think they are cute and fun. If I had the wardrobe for them, YEA!

  • When I worked in a mall, the department store ladies had to have transparent purses. They hated that everyone could see their tampons. OUT.

    • Worked at Bloomies. You used your Estee Lauder gift with purchase bag to hide the time of the month items

      • And since the inner part of these clutches look exactly like makeup bags, I’m picturing them full of tampons.

    • Therese Bohn

Worked at Sears — Yup, we had transparent bags for our stuff too – hated it! But at least these give you a little style and privacy! Yet I’d be happy with just the insert, hate the clear plastic- too clinical. IN for the cosmetic bag part – OUT for the clear plastic case.

    • j_anson

…Wait, why did they make them have transparent purses?

      • Sobaika

So employees wouldn’t steal, I’m assuming. I worked at an Express a while back and they would search our bags after our shifts.

        • j_anson

          Geez, seriously? Man. :

        • Qitkat

I hope the men had to empty their pockets or murses too.

      • too prevent employee theft.

  • Very cute. We’ve already seen more than a couple of lady stars carrying these and I’ve liked them every time.

  • Nah. Not working. What bugs me how often the insert bag, (which has its own zip, so that’s two things to open to get to anything), looks lumpy and misshapen.

    • About the inner bag, that was my thought exactly. If I need to get to my phone, how cumbersome! And I have never been a fan of makeup bags as purses, which is what the inner purse resembles.

      • conniemd

This. Who wants to open two purses??

  • Janet B

I assume the inside bag would get less pretty with my money, keys and lipstick tucked in.

  • Donna Tabor

They are basically all the same shell, it seems, with an interchangeable insert.

I like them, but they are probably hideously overpriced for what amounts to a plastic box with a makeup bag inside.

    • mshesterp

And yet–think how filthy fabric purses can get–this would protect them! I think they’re kinda cute.

      • barbarienne

Yes, but that clear plastic won’t look good for long, either. Crud tends to get in the corners of boxes, and they’re going to show every speck of it. I would be armed with a can of compressed air if I were someone’s stylist and thinking of giving them one of these purses.

That said, I do love the look, at least when they’re new.

        • VictoriaDiNardo

And they get scratched and nicked. Assuming they’re some form of lucite, easy to ding. Drop it and they crack. Plus, that box shape is uncomfortable to hold or tuck under your arm. No.

ETA: I say this as someone who had an epic lucite bag collection. If you love it, buy an old one on eBay and stick a make-up bag inside.

          • I agree, the lucite is going to look terrible with some wear. At least with a fabric bag you can have it dry cleaned.

  • Roo Roo

They look like cute coin purses you find on Etsy all the time, except they’re in plastic vitamin pill boxes for some reason.

  • charlotte

I want to take them out of the box.

  • It’s a cute enough concept, but it would annoy me to no end to open the plastic, then unzip simply to put on lipstick.

    • THANK YOU. Why the clasp AND the zip?

I mean, I know why – so you can interchange the inner clutch. But that’s just annoying.

      • What you don’t see on the inside is a padlock with a key on a chain.

        • Wait- a lock AND a key? This is just getting stupid.

          • And inside that, a tiny three-headed dog you need to lull to sleep with flute music.

          • Mistie Holler

And a magical old knight with a long beard who says ‘I shall let thee pass if thou canst answer me these riddles three…’

  • Rachael

LOVE!!!!!! I must have them all!!!

  • Introspective

nay. clear plastic anything feels cheap and strip mall to me. designs of the insert bags feel run of the mill.

bag #3’s insert is giving me all kinds of blanche and dorothy kiking on the lanai realness. but that’s not enough to make me buy (or rather covet since my budget makes none of these designer things you show here Uncles TLo a real possibility for yours truly), since these clutches feel more fug than fierce.

  • I like the bamboo one, but the idea is still rather stupid. Better if the inside purse opened along with the shell.

  • hughman

The concept is cute but her fabric choices on some of them are, um, “questionable”.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I like the look of the bamboo one. But I can’t think of an opportunity to carry one of these. Could be used as a weapon I suppose.

  • Justagirl

Too twee for me, la la

  • PastryGoddess

    A good idea poorly executed

  • MzzPants

I feel these need more futuristic inner bags. The only one that really works for me is the gold lamé.

  • Monday1900

They cost between 595-1100 pounds a piece — there’s a sucker born every minute!

    • Qitkat

    • WAIT WHAT????? That’s almost $1200 – $2200 for plastic??? Hell to the no! I pay that much for a clear tiny-ass clutch it better be made out of blood diamonds or something ridiculous. (I really don’t want something made out of blood diamonds).

  • deliadee

    $895-$995 for these. Ridic!

    • lovelyivy

As cute as these are i can’t see any justification for that price point. Yeesh.

  • Nay. Not paying for plastic bags or shoes (i’m looking at YOU, Loubou) ever again in life. The 80’s were a fun time to grow up, but i feel no burning desire to cop plastic, see-through bags or jelly shoes any time soon.

  • crash1212

I like most of the fabrics used, but I don’t really understand them. Does one open the plastic part and then have unzip the insert? Is the insert attached to the plastic part? It seems way too complicated to me – sometimes I like way too complicated, but not with a clutch.

  • MissAmynae

Inception clutches! A purse within a purse within a purse……

  • I like them. Seems to me you could purchase one, then change the insert to go match your mood. I’m all for a multi-purpose clutch.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

Kinda looks like you half-way pulled off a museum heist.

  • rkdgal

Finally, a holder for all of my Clinique bonus bags!

  • I like the concept. I’d never spend that kind of money on one of these though.

  • These are kind of fun, so I say “YEA.”

  • Qitkat

If I were an Etsy-minded person, I would be charging off to Michaels or the Container Store before this trend goes away.

  • formerlyAnon

    Oh, yes yes! Yea!
I don’t know why, but the soft/hard contrast grabs me. I really like the 1st and 4th. Especially the 4th. I’m lusting after it, and I can’t really explain why.

  • You could probably go to Michael’s and buy stuff to make these as a crafts project. And think of the possibilities of the insert.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I wish they had one that had a living ant colony in the lucite. I’d LOVE that one. Or Sea Monkeys.

  • marilyn

It is an interesting concept, but I would be driven buggy by all of the fingerprints. This is a fad, and those purses will be thrown out next year.

  • ankali

Yea, I guess. I don’t want to burn them with fire or anything. They’re not very exciting, though, and skew juvenile a little too easily.

  • fringebenefit

Neither yea nor nay. I would say HOORAY! I love them. Elegant and practical, in that the lucite protects the beautiful fabric, which would not last 10 seconds in the real world without getting dirty and dingy.

    • librarygrrl64

“Elegant and practical, in that the lucite protects the beautiful fabric, which would not last 10 seconds in the real world without getting dirty and dingy.”

      Exactly! 🙂

  • Trisha26

    NAY. Ludicrous.

  • jetpackdino

Nay for me. They look cheap. If they ever come in contact with a hard surface I’m sure they’ll crack faster than I do when I’m trying to diet and my husband bakes chocolate chip cookies.

  • It’s like when old people had an upholsterer use plastic to protect their couches.
Aw, I kid. I like these (didn’t we see a ladystar wearing one last week?), but would probably take the insert out (though those are cute too).

  • yay for cute. nay for price, i’m assuming.

  • unbornfawn

  • Zippypie

Nay. Cheap looking. Plus how annoying. You have to open it, then take out the zippered thing, unzip it. Five minutes to dig out your lipstick from under your cell and all your loose bills and cards because you can’t possibly fit even a change purse in there. They’d be cute if they were just the printed inside part made boxy like the clear outside part with the clasp.

  • JanieS

  • I don’t get it. Looks like a pretty stupid gimmick to me.

  • Louise Bryan

Looks to me like someone forgot to remove the security box.

    • My thought. I feel like they forgot to take the anti-robbery device away

  • Anabag

If I tried to use one of these, a lot of my stuff would end up inside the plastic container but outside the inner pouch.

  • fursa_saida

I like this idea, but I hate almost all the inner-layer insert things, so it sort of ruins it.

  • librarygrrl64

YEA! I don’t love all of the patterns, but I would carry several of these. I’m not even going to look up the prices…..

  • Two bags to open, just to get your stuff out? No thanks. Also, the fabric bags inside look quite small. How much could I put in there? My phone only? Keys and a credit card?

    • l_c_ann

Another vote tied to the lack of practicality (for my world).

They are cute, but I’m not even tempted to copy them.

  • I love them! They’re adorable.

  • demidaemon

    These are so stupid.

  • YEA especially the one you chose for the thumbnail.

  • Wait, are there spiders on top of the clutches? Being used as clasps? If so, f*ck spiders (no offense meant to spider-lovers).

  • Corsetmaker

Love! I love the 50s lucite bags but they’re really expensive when you find a decent one. Plus you’d never need another clutch! Just swap out the inner… and it’d be easy to make/have something made other than their designs.

  • The whole thing makes me think of a gal who carries around a spare pair of racy underwear in her purse. The Britannica ones make me want to stab myself in the eye. That’s a NAY.

    • Corsetmaker

Oh I agree with you on the union flag one, but I generally have an aversion to it.

  • ccm800

    fossilized clutches? No. NAY!

  • CLUTCH-CEPTION. What would be perfect is if it had a smaller coin purse inside. That’s how I’d do it.

  • Anniebet

Yea. So much fun there. And some clunkers.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties
