Darlings, we’re feeling the need for some Paris in our day, aren’t you?

Le Bar du Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris

Gorgeous and comfy. Start a tab.

Guest judge Bonnie Brooks, Nina Garcia, Rachel Roy and Heidi Klum

So Zac Posen’s really just a part-time Duchess, isn’t he?

Tim Gunn presents the ninth challenge at Lord & Taylor.

Lord & Taylor will host the show’s ninth episode challenge at its iconic Fifth Avenue flagship store. For this episode, the designers are instructed to draw inspiration from Lord & Taylor’s signature “American Beauty Rose” and create a design with the retailer’s customer in mind, finishing the look with pieces from the L&T accessory wall. The winner of this week’s challenge has had their piece produced, which will be sold exclusively at select Lord & Taylor stores and on LordandTaylor.com starting tomorrow, as well as displayed in the store’s legendary Fifth Avenue windows.

Which of this crew of unlikely misfits has what it takes to tone things down for L&T? We’re going with Stanley.

We also think it’s time for Patricia to go home and this just may be the challenge to do it.

“Lord of the Tailors?” OH SHUT UP, LIFETIME.

So? How are the kittens all doing this evening?

Exhausted and home with a headcold but nothing like TLounge to cheer up this old doll :)

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Me for Patricia going home, as well. I just can’t envision her aesthetic lining up with the L&T brand in any way. Line up the champagne glasses. Papa Kiltd is pouring. Who’s in?

And for the win on this one, for my money it’s a toss up between Stanley and Richard.

      • formerlyAnon

Oh, I’m in! Pour away and merci. I’m already putting off work to have dinner with a friend – today is just a vortex of procrastination. And I’ll go with Stanley, rather arbitrarily.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Since I’m doing this posting from work, I have no such an out, you lucky gal. In fact we are down two members of the manager team, so I’m going to be wearing all the hats this evening at work.

Stanley certainly has both the experience and the skills to pull something off. We shall see. Also wondering about the wildly contrived looking stuff in the preview about Michelle lying. Wassail matter? Designers not dramatic enough this time out?

          • formerlyAnon

It sounds potentially fraught, but I hope the virtual drink induces a mellow state from which you can command your troops and appease the public without undue exertion. Also that the evening’s quota of stupid is low.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Bless you for that. It does tend to be true that if crazy or stupid is about to occur, it happens on a Thursday. This is so often true that Thursday is now the staff word for crazy people or happenings.

              I am stalwart.

      • formerlyAnon

I could see Patricia doing accessories that might be in L&T – scarves or shawls, maybe. But not a garment. Maybe she’ll surprise us and make something wonderful, but that would just be sad because it wouldn’t stop her from going home, I think. The imposed narrative demands it.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Besides her usual mode is rather complex and detail oriented, which does not translate well to ready to wear.

          • MilaXX

yep, she does not understand that fancy doodads do not translate well into ready to wear at mid market prices

        • MilaXX

As the season progresses and she is increasingly determined to impressed the judges, her need to shoehorn a craft project into every challenge gets greater and the result gets uglier.

      • BrooklynBomber

        I’m in, baby!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Hey sweet thing! Lets get soused on virtual champers.

          • BrooklynBomber

            Yes, I need to!

      • MilaXX

        I’ll definitely take a sip…… or 3.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

          Handing over glass,…

          • MilaXX

            Thank you dear!

      • NDC_IPCentral

Me three, or is it four, as soon as I trundle out of IP C, momentarily, march half a mile to the car and motor on home. Then I’m in for the night and want to be into a lot o’ bubbly!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I promise we will save a magnum, just for you.

    • guest2visits

Oouooh… now I need some purple carpeting. Maybe I need to buy a van.

      • formerlyAnon

A van in which to put the carpeting, I assume? I vote you run it at least halfway up the sides.

        • guest2visits

I’ve only seen shady looking purple carpeting in a van, myself….and I’ve seen a few with carpeted walls!
Not that it can’t be absolutely beautiful elsewhere – like this lounge.

        • zenobar

And install some convex spade-shaped windows also.

    • formerlyAnon

Also: Daniel! What is with cut off shorts and a suit jacket? Even in Austin, that would only work if the shorts were hemmed and the jacket weren’t such a staid black.

    • unbornfawn

      Patricia is long past due.

      • EveEve

        so true…

    • BrooklynBomber

One thing for sure: Leyana’s is not the hot dress with the horrible print.

      • OrigamiRose

I’m just in horror at the heart cut out. Samantha… just, no.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Oh, jesus on a pogo stick! I just saw that…words, they fail me.

        • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Heart cut outs are cute — on three year old girls. Add the flounces and lack of length and it actually is a dress for a 3 year old.

    • MilaXX

My vote is Patricia or Dan for the auf & Stanley is definitely a L & T designer. I must say though, my local L & T underwent a remodel last year. I hadn’t been in the store for a minute and when I went in I was pleasantly surprised to less catering to the main line blue haired crowd and more contemporary looks. My second surprise was seeing all the PR designer faces. I think L & T is even having some sort of contest on their FB page.

    • formerlyAnon

Okay, I must leave in order to procrastinate from another geographic location, and before I go, I just have to say it. It’s been said, I was trying to hold back, but I just cannot: Ms. Klum, PLEASE go buy some good bras. And wear them.

      • MilaXX

My vote is just put one on. I fear she suffers Susan Saradon syndrome and still thinks she does not need one.

        • formerlyAnon

Denial. It’s time for undergarments. Or the other route: surgery.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Whoa nellie, I was just looking at the dress not being hiked up to THERE and the neckline not being shameworthy – I didn’t notice the girls in the grip of gravity. Can’t deny Mr. Newton, Frau Klum.

      • TRSmith

As usual, her dress is too tight across the thighs. Lol to everyone’s other comments.

      • Targettaste

Ah the irony of a former Victoria’s Secret model who can’t find a well fitted bra.

    • MzzPants

This kitten is worn out and ready for a quiet evening of lazing in front of the tube. Unfortunately, there is no cable. Kisses to you all. I’ll catch up tomorrow.

    • marilyn

The cast of PR (in one of the later photos) do not look like L&T people. Were they being watched for shoplifting while they were in the store?

ZP has the technical skills to be in MK’s chair, but he has no personality at all. I never thought I would say that I miss The Duchess.

    • NDC_IPCentral

I’m sorta with MizzPants; I’ve been doing BK yawns all day, which has wrought havoc with productivity at IP Central. Well, tomorrow (actually next week) is another day, Scarlett. I think Our Boys have demonstrated their Amazing Carnac powers yet again with their predictions for glory ‘n’ grief. I’ll try to keep my peepers open for the whole shebang, but it may be as I laze in my comfy bed, which is singing a siren song that’s wooing me, if a Duxiana bed could warble.

    • Lilithcat

I’d be doing a lot better without this crappy new Disqus format.

But happy to go to Paris!

      • EveEve

seriously, I can no longer post comments from my work PC >deep sigh<

      • Winter_White

It shows comments from highest-rated on down, is that right? How will that work for TLOunge, in which there is a streaming conversation?

        • Targettaste

You can order them from most popular, oldest, or newest. Look at the top left, just above the start of comments. I hate that the pages aren’t numbered. I give up on going back to look at a specific comment.

          • Winter_White

Ah, thank you, Targettaste — I hadn’t noticed that. (The selection thing used to be in the upper RIGHT. How dare TLo reverse my world this way?!! Hee.)

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

…So now I “reordered” them, and the order makes even less sense than before. I hate change!

            • editrixie

Well, honestly, I don’t think this is even about liking or hating change (for the record, I hate it too!), but the fact that they’ve kind of fucked it up and reduced some functionality. I saw this with Tumblr recently too — initiating some big changes in format that made things really difficult for many users, and clearly it was a case of a bunch of young developers thinking they were doing something cooler, and just fucking it up for most of the users. I have a good friend who has literally written the books on user interfaces, and I always ask her “Am I being just an old fuddy duddy, or what?” and she launches into really useful and interesting tirades.

      • NDC_IPCentral

I know it’s not Tom or Lorenzo’s doing, but I agree completely that this new format is unpleasant. 1. Can’t see who “liked” (now ^) your comments. 2. Too pale. 3. Posts/reply e-mails aren’t readable as e-mail at all on my BlackBerry – the format and BBY don’t agree – or it’s the trendy pale bumf.

        • formerlyAnon

Yes. I figured out the ordering thing. I accidentally (don’t know how, honestly It wasn’t by choosing “view” or “font” anywhere) darkened & increased the size of font on my work PC. But haven’t figured out the font on the home Mac and I really miss being able to see who “liked” a comment. It makes it much harder to contribute to a feeling of community by creating a personality for the regular visitors in one’s head. I complained to Disqus about all these things in their feedback form, but I doubt they care.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, I’m not a fan. I really like the old way, and it was a HUGE improvement over the commenting system from when it was still Project Rungay.

Plus I find it confusing as to how it works and the constant “new comment above/below” which then jumps you around like crazy is annoying.

        • DeborahJozayt

I discovered how to see the “liked” comments! If you click the gear, then click ‘edit settings’, you’ll go to a page with the old format in the background with a little box of all your settings. Close the small window, and poof! You’re at the old format. You can just bookmark that page to view all your comments that way instead of relying on the current notification format.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

thank you lilithcat for bringing this up ! and may i say that i think it’s hilarious that your comment is at the top of the BEST list! also, thanks to whoever pointed out that you can change the order by clicking on “best” at the top left. i seriously would never have figured that out by myself. not much of a geek here. anyway i agree the new format sucks. as i recently learned on NPR, the soldiers at war repeat to each other “embrace the suck”, a factor contributing to untreated ptsd. embrace the suck, bitter kittens.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I think I’m going to adopt “Embrace the suck” as my new motto.

      • MilaXX

As someone who doesn’t always take change well, I’m slowly getting used to it.

      • BuffaloBarbara

Yup, this. Can’t stand the new Disqus display. I was trying for ages to figure out how to find out who “liked,” and finally had to give up. I don’t like the whole “giving up” thing.

        • DeborahJozayt

Click the gear icon on the top-right next to the share link, then edit settings. The page should be there after you close a small window of your account settings. You can then bookmark that page to access it separately.

          • BuffaloBarbara

Where does that give the opportunity to show who is “liking” a post? It takes me here to the Dashboard (I have that bookmarked), but that’s one thing the dashboard doesn’t show — always had to click back to the post for it.)

            • DeborahJozayt

Hmmm, i guess it’s different for each server platform, perhaps?

            • BuffaloBarbara

Guess so. Mine just pops right over here. Grr.

      • mightbewrong

It’s the new downvote I’m conflicted on. As far as I can tell it’s just so you can deliver an anonymous ‘fuck you.’

        • formerlyAnon

I think it will be interesting to see if the BKs adopt it, and to what use we put it, if we do. So far I’ve only noticed it used twice, and once it was deserved – on a gratuitously unpleasant comment.

    • CPK1

yay for T Lounge! been looking forward to it all day.

    • CPK1

Layana bugs. As do Michelle and Patricia. Here’s hoping the three of them are charming and industrious tonight

    • Inspector_Gidget

Once again the bar is the most interesting part of the post. Make it a double!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I’m concerned that they didn’t say ‘Lord and Taylor’ enough.

      Lord and Taylor!
If everyone makes a little black dress like last time I am going to need a lot more vodka.

    • Miss_Led

I’m seeing Patti Lupone tonight! *gloats* . . . Will have to catch up online with this one.

      • http://www.lifeinspice.com/ rose88

I adore Patti Lupone! I saw her live in Gypsy on Broadway and she was totally amazing. Have fun!

    • CarolinLA

Ven must be turning over in his sewing room knowing that a rose is the inspiration.

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

        Just what I was thinking!

      • http://www.facebook.com/NicoleLittle1 Nicole Little

I feel like that was intentional.

    • Louise Bryan

Paris…okay. Just steer clear of Marc Jacobs until we can be sure he isn’t dying of something Rachel Zoe gave him.

    • OrigamiRose

I think Patricia’s time has come, but is it wrong I want her to hold out until Michelle is sent packing first?

      *settles in with French Martini*

      • tonibaloney

Thank you for introducing me to this AMAZING-sounding cocktail. Yum!

        • OrigamiRose

You’re very welcome; I keep a full shaker nearby, just signal when you’re ready for more :)

    • http://twitter.com/CaitrinofFenris Caitrin

I’m not liking the teams thing as far as I don’t feel that I have a real good sense of who is comparably good like I would before. Not that I would know for sure who would be the top three, but say what you will about Dmitry, he was an excellent tailor and compared to the rest of the group, I wasn’t exactly astounded by the fact that he was in the top. The teams for season 11 had me knowing who stinks pretty early on, or at least who might not do as well (i.e. Patricia – sorry, but doing her textiles every time for one piece of an outfit = cottage industry NOT high fashion – Michelle has been honest and dead on about her if not slightly redundant) and I feel like everyone else kinda ends up averaging out. Sure some of them have sent down individual pieces that have shined or sunk, but it’s the cumulative work that tells me what they are really about and that is harder when I see one piece that is truly theirs and all the other pieces are more blended into group challenges and influenced by more than just Tim Gunn coming in and looking aghast. Just my take on it.

      Lounge is lovely. :)

    • GorgeousThings

      Snore…

Oh, and BTW? I was up close and personal with the PR garments that L&T produced at Fashion’s Night Out and they were, to put it kindly, cheap.

      • EveEve

tell us more. Were they from this season?

        • GorgeousThings

No, EveEve, they were from the last all-stars season

      • formerlyAnon

Thanks for the first hand report. It is gratifying to have one’s baser suspicions confirmed.

    • tonibaloney

**Finally** recovered enough from the flu that I can sit up to watch Project Runway. I’ll take a virtual glass of wine, methinks.

    • EveEve

The new website format is freakin’ me out. For one thing, I can’t comment from my work PC any more :(
But here I am in the lounge, having saved up all my bitchy for the evening’s main event!

    • alula_auburn

Boring sounding challenge. Michelle’s tats still look like scales to me.
I have what I’m expecting to be a hellacious teleconference set up for tomorrow, so Paris tonight definitely sounds good, especially with no jet lag and no hangover. Also, for ongoing pain reasons I am wearing some totes stylish compression garments all over my arms and one knee. HOT.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Her tattoos look to me like a series of bruises. Which will become increasingly so as the years and decades pass, the tattoos lose their sharpness and her skin becomes less elastic. Not attractive.

Sounds like you had quite a fall or accident, Alula, feel better!

    • BuffaloBarbara

This is definitely a terrible challenge for Patricia — this is where textile construction will never cut it at a mass-produced RTW price point. Would not surprise me in the least if she went home, unless she’s got an unsuspected trick up her sleeves.

      • MilaXX

All it takes is one of the other teams imploding and she will Forrest Gump her way through another challenge

    • EveEve

This may be one of the rare episodes where we can get some idea of what the designers can really do. All that duct taping and ping pong restaurant waiter stuff, and exotic male dancer crap has left me without a clue what they are capable of doing. Nor would I be able to distinguish any of their work if I wasn’t told (except maybe Patricia).

      • EveEve

Stanley: “I’m just hoping for a fashion challenge.” Amen

        • write_light

          A – f***ing – men. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss Jeffrey and Santino.

      • OrigamiRose

If only they’d be given more than a day’s time… sigh.

    • OrigamiRose

      Hmmmm Stanley and Patricia…. interesting.

    • Jasmaree

“Spring into the next challenge. I wonder what this will be about.”

I’ll give you three guesses; you’ll only need one.

And now the judges are forming teams for max drama.

    • MilaXX

I think Dan’s gonna go. Stanley is pretty good at managing.

      • OrigamiRose

Agreed, my immediate reaction hearing about S/P was, Patricia just got saved another week.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Oh dear god. Richard’s hat! Trucker + Christmas tinsel.

      • alula_auburn

And the pants! My 80s Ken dolls wouldn’t have been caught dead in that ensemble.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Totally. Though your Ken dolls would have looked far better.

      • Pennymac

        Hiddy, Right?

    • zelavie

I’ll bet Ven is so jealous right now.

    • OrigamiRose

“My rose, my rose, my kingdom for a rose.” – Ven Budhu, somewhere tonight

    • dschubba

1 day + mass production = the best-looking shift dress wins

    • OrigamiRose

Yes, Michelle, incorporate Portland into your design… even though L&T had to close their store in the heart of downtown a couple years ago due to lack of business.

Did she even mention that Portland is the Rose City?

      She’s hopeless.

    • Jasmaree

Or you could actually listen to him, Patricia

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

“No. For I am Native American and must listen to my Spirit Guides….”

      • OrigamiRose

I know, she admitted sometimes she needs to be pulled back a week or so ago, didn’t she? Stanley is a good person to be paired with, so work well with him.

    • dschubba

Patricia is just hopeless. If there was ever a time for her to ditch the crafty textiles, it’s this week.

    • Jasmaree

Richard, aren’t you too old for the silent treatment? You realize that this isn’t good for either of you, right? Grow up.

      • OrigamiRose

Well he did hog all the gold tape that one week because he wuz mad at Stanley for not picking him, so I think maturity is not Richard’s… shall I say, Hallmarq?

        • tonibaloney

Oooooooo, Richard, you need some ointment for that burn?

          • OrigamiRose

            Oh, snap ;)

        • Peeve

          Sooooo bad! (snork)

          • OrigamiRose

Hey, my quips may be corny but I’d have come up with hell of a better name for any team I was on than any of them did! :)

            • Peeve

Nope, the commentary was meant because it made me laugh–I love that kind of humor!

            • OrigamiRose

              Oh, phew!

Getting a Richard exit interview edit feel but I also said that last week. Must be wishful thinking, hee hee.

    • zelavie

      Swatch is such a cutie!

    • alula_auburn

Swatch sighting! Yay! Nom nom nom, Swatch.

    • tonibaloney

I love it when dogs lie down with their legs all splayed out like that! Good boy, Swatch!

    • Peeve

So is Patricia (hopeless). She learns nothing from previous challenges.

    • zelavie

Can regular people go to Mood, or is it one of those exclusive to designers places?

      • EveEve

it’s retail. go to moodfabrics dot com

        • zelavie

          Cool – thanks!

    • Jasmaree

The judges’ (or should I say producer’s) team choices are working perfectly. There are arguments everywhere.

    • Peeve

Yoiks! I smell chaos and drama!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Patricia, honey, helpful =/= controlling. He’s trying to save you from yourself.

      • BuffaloBarbara

He is being pretty controlling in his attitude, though. That would be driving me nuts. But I want to slap her for doing a textile creation on a RTW challenge!

    • DeTrop

The teams are very interesting. Layana, Richard and Samantha???? Poor Samantha.
Michelle and Daniel – can’t wait.
Patricia and Stanley – I don’t want him to go.

Patricia is getting defensive. Stanley is getting anxious. MEchelle is well MEchelle. I’m getting a glass of Rose.

    • blondie65

Love Swatch!! as my Boston is in the exact same position doing the same thing (chewing on her toy)…

    • alula_auburn

Man, I’ve been cutting Patricia some slack, because I think at least some elements of her textile work are interesting, but I kind of suspect that if you can’t get along with Stanley in that group, you can’t get along with anyone.

Team Stanley/Samantha–would that be like, Team Not Being a Twelve-year-old?

    • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

Oh some champagne please! Happy to join the crowd. Paris is wonderful, n’est-ce pas?

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Can one be successful in just Textile design? (meaning Patricia) or is that a large corporate venture?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

It depends; you can either design textiles as an independent artist (think of a hand weaver or a designer of hand knits) or you can work for a large firm. I’m more familiar with home design textiles and there’s lots of cross-over between interior design and textile design. For example, Mary McDonald is a interior designer who also designs textiles as part of her work. Didn’t someone here say that Jay McCarroll was doing textile design now?

    • EveEve

Oh God the “I’m not here to make friends” comment. That means a double tequila shot in my drinking game. Damn…

      • OrigamiRose

        Bottoms up!

      • NDC_IPCentral

Looking forward to your posts post-bibulum. We need something to keep this torture bearable. The burden’s on you, EveEve! :-)

    • zelavie

Layana, the entire workroom doesn’t revolve around you.

    • MilaXX

Somehow I get the sinking suspicion that in the middle of this pissing contest with Layana & Richard, Sam ends up auf’d. None of the other teams are getting half the screen time with their squabbles.

      • DeTrop

You’re our resident clairvoyant. Way to go. How are you at picking numbers????LOL

    • guest2visits

GO TEAMS! Nice work Heidi and Co.; stir that pot.

    • tonibaloney

      That’s Jinkx’s mantra! Step off!

    • Pennymac

Ugh. Layana’s voice is becoming nails on a chalboard….

    • zelavie

Yeah, because YOUR dress is revolutionary.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

How is it that Tim’s comments – which are very similar to Stanley’s – are helpful while Stanley’s have moved from controlling to aggressive?

    • tonibaloney

Was he actually crying about that stupid jacket? Whatevs, Daniel.

      • OrigamiRose

If you love something, set it free by cutting it into pieces.

    • OrigamiRose

      Oh dear, Daniel… tears?

      • MilaXX

fake. He has got to be playing for the cameras

        • OrigamiRose

Maybe next season it should be Project Runway: Fameballs and dispense with the fantasy that anyone is there for fashion design anymore.

    • MilaXX

Is he CRYING!!!! Chile please, get your life! That jacket ain’t that special.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Wait? Was he really tearing up about taking about that Joan Collins’ jacket? That had to be acting.

      • alula_auburn

I usually give the benefit of the doubt, because Lord knows I’ve cried about superficially stupid stuff when I was under pressure, but that looked SO FAKE.

        • BuffaloBarbara

I dunno. He just came off as really, really tired to me.

    • alula_auburn

This is literally one of the stupidest fights ever.

    • Jasmaree

Wow Daniel. Way to get extremely defensive about absolutely nothing.

    • dschubba

Fall back, Daniel. Andrae is the king of crying over jackets.

      • MoHub

Andrae needs to who Daniel how it’s done. I think Daniel is hiding a cut onion in his sleeve for use in his confessionals. I’m so sick of his tears.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Taking apart a jacket merits tears? A dress is new and different? What is the obsession with what stupid thing Michelle said? And why does Daniel’s mustache grow out of his nose?

      • EveEve

so many questions, so little time

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

I knew a man whose mustache grew out of his nose some years ago. He was a local director of a student exchange program. It was hard being around him because you couldn’t help but look at his nose hair ‘stache and be squicked out.

      • tonibaloney

He didn’t want to purchase a nose hair trimmer and decided to make it a style quirk?

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i’ve been wondering about that myself…

    • zelavie

AND the producers find their winning combination. 3/3 team fights.

      • DeTrop

Please let it be Richard, MEchelle and Patricia on one team. I want to see MEchelle handle both Richard and Patricia. All that drama on one team. The snooze team will be Stanley, Daniel and Layana.

    • Peeve

Apparently, now Daniel is building Mt. Everest out of a molehill…

    • Fordzo

Am I the only one who is SICK & TIRED of hearing people the words “hard and soft” to talk about/describe a look?

      • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, good God, am I on your side there.

      • dschubba

It’s quickly approaching “old Hollywood glamour” in terms of fashion cliches that should be retired.

      • alula_auburn

It totally reminds of certain kinds of corporate-speak that gets dated really fast. “think outside the box” “leverage our credentials,” “maximize potential.”

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

          “Paradigm”

          • OrigamiRose

            Synergy!

            • Swiftlytiltingplanet

              On the same page!

            • DeborahJozayt

Just want to touch base with you!

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

          visioning. mission statement.

      • Pennymac

        You are SOOOOO not alone!

    • bringbackbeatles

Seriously, Daniel? Maybe you should stop crying about a generic jacket and verbally attacking Michelle over mothing and start focusing on the dress you haven’t even started yet,

    • BuffaloBarbara

Seriously, if L&T wants more twenty-something shoppers, they have to stop thinking of $250 as low price point. Twenty-something are editorial assistants, mucking around in the slushpile at low wages. If they’re lucky. It doesn’t matter what designs you’re selling if they can’t afford to drop the cash on them.

Since they won’t, design for your actual clientele, which is middle-aged people. Well, middle-aged people with more money than this particular one.

      • MilaXX

I think they are trying for a more youthful market. The remodeled stores, appearing on Fashion Star, this tie in with PR. They are trying to cater to first job younger people.

        • BuffaloBarbara

Then they need to drop their prices. You can’t go with a twenty-something first job crowd and charge over $200 for a single item. They need something to wear every day of the week, and a store where that $200 can cover a good bit of that.

    • Jasmaree

      Daniel’s having a breakdown.

    • Peeve

Yes, Daniel. You’ve definitely lost it.

      • alula_auburn

And I HATE to admit that.

        • Peeve

          THIS!

    • OrigamiRose

      Sniff, sniff. *drink drink*

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Oh! We can drink every time Daniel sobs. New job!

    • MilaXX

Oh Hells bells! Send this nutjob HOME!

      • OrigamiRose

Perhaps that is his exit interview talking head?

    • tonibaloney

      What is happening?!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

SHUT UP Daniel! And stop crying! As dschubba said below – You are no Andre!

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Daniel, you are a treasure. Happy, happy, happy, tears. Happy, happy, happy clothes.

    • bringbackbeatles

As much as Patricia annoys me sometimes, Stanley seems really condescending to her. Also, for someone who wants a “fashion challenge” so bad, there doesn’t seem to be much design to his dress. Ok, as I am writing this, Stanley is nice again, so I eat my words, lol.

      • EveEve

tee hee! Stanley does seem completely sane and without pretense. I’m hoping he takes it all.

      • DeTrop

You’re so right. He wanted to show what he could do so he comes up with a seriously generic dress. He ignored Tim’s suggestion to embellish it and was left with a plain old pink dress. I am very disappointed and surprised at Stanley.

    • MilaXX

I almost want Stanley to win just for being the sole grownup this season.

      • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Yes, He’s so non dramatic and about his business!

      • OrigamiRose

Shame they don’t do fan favorite (do they?). I’d totally make an effort to vote for him.

    • tonibaloney

Patricia’s definitely has a “lady-flower” aspect to it, from the brief glimpse we got.

    • lessax3

Daniel, how is this Michelle’s fault? How is her saying a figurative rich twenty-one year old wouldn’t buy bright pink shorts and jacket, her commanding you to design only for a 21 yr old. It was an example, she picked a young age out of thin air. She could have said twenty two or twenty four and made the same point. Calm down and stop blaming Michelle that you can’t make a Barbie jacket.

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Does every groups look use pink?

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Michelle actually may be worse than Patricia. Neither has that L&T feel.

    • alula_auburn

UGH stop anthropomorphizing the clothes! the vest is not calling you! the jacket was not your firstborn child!

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

I have never seen that much half naked model on PR before. You know they’re getting desperate now.

    • bringbackbeatles

Is there really such a thing as a rain vest? Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose? I don’t know. I’m from Pitttsburgh, so we get all kinds of weather, but not enough rain to actually buy rain gear.

      • alula_auburn

        I wondered about that, too.

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

A rain vest makes no sense. Who wants wet arms?

      • DeTrop

I was asking myself the same thing. Where did she get this idea from? If it’s a rainy region and Portland is, why not a jacket at the least? I don’t get it.

      • bringbackbeatles

Glad it isn’t just me, lol.

    • OrigamiRose

I must say having lived in Portland, especially at this time of year when my colorful dresses came out – well, it stands out a bit is the easiest way to put it. It’s just not a city that really sees a lot of women in very flirty, dressy clothing in colors that pop. Michelle’s snooty attitude about pink is unfortunately all to familiar to me.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

And now she has a pink tulle something in her hair…perhaps Michelle is the Judge of Pink Correctness, and we weren’t aware.

        • alula_auburn

My thoughts exactly. She’s wearing it in her interview, too.

        • lessax3

Well, maybe it was a peace offering to Daniel?

          • OrigamiRose

            An homage to an auf?

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

hi everybody!..just checking in here. won’t be able to watch the epi til later as i’m still working on a textile piece that has an end of march deadline. it involves sewing together photos printed on paper with fabric, much of it handpainted. this is a yearly photography competition and invariably my computer gives me shit every year. and yes, i know, you can print photos on cloth, but you don’t get the same high resolution and intense color. also i like the combination of textures, and paper is actually a textile, i believe. anyways, i am sitting here having a hot toddy and staring at my pice before i get back to work.. enjoy par, and everyone give each other a virtual kiss. talk to you all later, sleah.is for me

    • alula_auburn

haha the mannequins will take their revenge!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

what the fuck, disqus said my comment was awaiting moderation and now it’s gone completely. what, are we no longer allowed to talk about ourselves in the tlounge? i am steamed!!

      • OrigamiRose

I think it is just the system. I’m seeing older comments appear at top even though I have definitely selected “newest” as my sorting device (unless it is now sorting them as ‘newest’ by replies? I am clueless).

        • formerlyAnon

I find I have to keep re-selecting my sorting preference.

      • OrigamiRose

For instance, aluhas comment about “Team Not a Twelve Year Old” just popped up as the most recent comment in spite of being originally posted a half-hour ago… cray cray commenting system!

      • Targettaste

I’m definitely not liking the new set up. Is this something TLo changed, or should we blame Disqus?

        • formerlyAnon

          Disqus

          • MoHub

            Always blame Disqus.

    • dschubba

Michelle is really good at walking that line between “fricking” and “fucking”.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I’m seeing a lot more Target than Lord & Taylor. (Not to bash Target – more of my wardrobe than I care to admit is from Target.)

      • Pennymac

Sigh. What can we expect with one day?

    • zelavie

OMG. Is Heidi wearing something… tasteful and modest?!

      • OrigamiRose

        It’s a late Festivus miracle.

      • MoHub

It’s still a size too small, and she needs to acknowledge that she has a little bit of a belly now.

    • alula_auburn

I swear, that tulle in “too punk for pink” Michelle’s hair is expanding by the second! IT’S ALIVE!

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        It’s feeding off her brain?

        • write_light

You wanna rethink that explanation? XD

    • MilaXX

      YAY! Rachel gives good critiques

    • NDC_IPCentral

Alas and alack, this new Disqus format is flummoxing the faithful here. We’re without our ready means to converse with each other and share about our lives as well as the nuttiness on the tube.

YIIIII, Frau Klum, you need some Spanx – you’ve got a puffy abdomen in that beige frock you’re wearing….

      • EveEve

Yes, I hope TLo gives us some kind of a tutorial – I’m lost!

      • Qitkat

It’s really cramping our Bitter Kitten styles isn’t it? Big dislike from me.

        • NDC_IPCentral

ME TOO, I’m realizing that the comments are not appearing sequentially. I’m confuuuuuused.

          • Call me Bee

if you refresh by clicking the “Oldest” button, the comments all fall into sequence–until a new comment is posted–it shows up on top. But really–it’s a PITA. :(

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

      Patricia’s top is ugly.

    • MilaXX

Oh Stanley. that dress is pretty, but I doubt it will be more than safe.

      • EveEve

It is beautfully tailored, accessorized – the seaming details went by too fast, but they seemed really great too.

        • MoHub

It’s well made and pretty, but it’s so blah.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Dare I say? Patricia’s looking kind of okay!

      • OrigamiRose

I agree. I think she lives to see another one-day challenge.

      • MoHub

Patricia done proved she’s a real designer who thinks things through and then executes.

    • zelavie

I saw Richard’s dress at TJ Maxx 2 years ago.

      • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

I swear I was about to say Marshall’s/Tj Maxx lol

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Richard – EVERYONE has seen that before except you.

    • MilaXX

      Sam’s look is juniors

      • alula_auburn

the light pink is a little too close to nude for my liking, too.
Overall, it gives me a discount flamenco Barbie kind of look.

      • MoHub

Sam deliberately went junior, and if you’ve seen L&T’s latest ads, it seems the chain is trying to attract a younger audience and lose its traditional stodgy image. Unfortunately Samantha’s thinking is not going to fly with Heidi, who simply doesn’t get it.

        • MilaXX

Sam’s look was teenage girl juniors. I realize L & T is trying to skew younger, I posted about it earlier. However, they are aiming more the 20something, not girls in high school

          • MoHub

Either way, it’s going to be difficult for L&T to lose the wealthy matrons image it’s had for so long.

    • OrigamiRose

Yikes. Sam’s looks like rejected Brass Plum.

    • MilaXX

I don’t like the leather waist detailing on Leyana’s. Dress is pretty though.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

The print reminds me of gazpacho. And not in a good way.

    • dschubba

Richard has never seen those lines before? He should visit my closet.

    • zelavie

Oh, Daniel. That is not good.

    • MilaXX

Dan just designed for a 60 year old with a good figure.

      • OrigamiRose

And so revolutionary – a dress!

(I love dresses but I just can’t with those eighties shoulder pads.)

        • Fordzo

          It’s NOT pants! It’s a dress!

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

But, but..it’s a dress! It’s something he doesn’t do! He had to TEAR APART HIS JACKET!

    • DeTrop

Tim reminds me of Mr. Belvedere – for those of you old enough to know what I’m talking about. He has to deal with some unruly kids. He’s always proper and well spoken.

    • Fordzo

It’s a dress! Something never seen before!

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Daniel always reminds me of a cooky Christoph Waltz during the runway lol

      • dschubba

        I see it!

      • queenceleste

YES!! (or should i say JA!!!)

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

What happened to Michelle’s rain vest?

    • MilaXX

      Love Michelle’s

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

It’s the best thing she’s done in this competition and I think may be the winner. It’s really nice.

      • EveEve

        Yes, but Daniel’s was awful

        • MoHub

My biggest problem with Daniel’s was the diagonal asymmetrical pleating on the left side of an essentially symmetrical dress. It just looked like a mistake of some kind.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I swear to god – Michelle’s dress is in Target right now.

    • zelavie

I really hope Daniel’s score doesn’t keep Michelle from winning – hers is absolutely the best, but his is absolutely the worst.

    • MintaHallWriter

I really liked Patricia’s top and slacks. Very pretty and spring-like. So was Stanley’s. Actually all the teams did well.

      • OrigamiRose

Earth to Patricia: A strong manager brings out your best.

      • DeTrop

I think she’s keeping Stanley in the top. His dress is so ho-hum. I’ve had that dress on and off for 40 years. The length and fabric vary but the style is as basic as it gets.

        • MoHub

          It’s a shift—a basic, been-around-forever, shift.

    • MilaXX

Okay Team Sam/Leyana/Richard on the bottom. Sam or Richard for the auf.
I think Stanley & Patricia may win this.

    • guest2visits

Sad to say – Samantha’s was not very attractive. And looks like a production nightmare for a dept. store.

      • MilaXX

        cheerleader uniform

      • OrigamiRose

God, that was hideous. I had such high hopes. Crazily, the heart wasn’t even the worst part of it – the skirt was. I think I wore that in junior high school.

      • bringbackbeatles

I know. The whole time, I was thinking, how can this possibly turn out well and it didn’t. It’s really odd, there is just way too much going on and the skirt looks really sloppy. It got that ice skating costume shape too. Probably the worst for me, but she seems sweet so I feel bad.

        • OrigamiRose

It seemed to me that the Lord & Taylor lady really had the deciding vote. Nina and Rachel seemed inclined to keep Sam for her potential – and I wish they had prevailed.

          • Qitkat

It seems so odd that the L & T lady would have the deciding vote on who goes home. Wins, that’s totally understandable, since they would be manufacturing the look.

Ho hum, Just another Pleasant Valley Thursday.

    • zelavie

      Samantha’s dress is 100% Forever 21.

    • lessax3

I think its between Patricia and Michelle for the win so I think it will come down to whether the judges prefer Stanley’s pink dress or Daniel’s pink dress.

    • blondie65

disappointed in how Sam’s turned out based on her original sketch. HATED Daniel’s and loved Michelle’s, Liked Stanley’s & Patricia’s (well..the top…). My vote is Richard for the out. It just was a whole lot of nothing…

    • NDC_IPCentral

Michelle FTW – that WAS a fresh and attractive dress. Daniel, that was a hot mess – you’re mired in your ’80s mindset.

I LOVED Stan’s shift and its coral color. That was an impeccable garment. Subtle, classy. Patricia’s top and capris were better than I anticipated, but that top is NOT for everyone, Patricia. For the young and very lightly endowed, bosom-wise, yes, but others, no.

Layana – You shouldn’t have gone long; I think that aged that dress. I appreciate the effort at melding a floral print with leather, but… it looked dated somehow.

Richard – also looked old with that length. Had it been short – it would have been sassy, albeit repetitive. Hallmarq is a one-note.

Samantha – I thought it looked like a waitress’ costume at some theme restaurant. TOO short and too busy. That is not a Lord & Taylor look.

      • EveEve

I agree about Stanley’s shift. He should get lots of credit for the tailoring and fit. The seaming went by fast, but seemed flawless.

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Michelle, you are zee winner of this challenge.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I do like Michelle’s dress. Cute. I’m not sure where it relates to the rose theme. The leaves? I’ll go with the leaves. And Patricia! Thank you for getting it together and doing a good job. I like that outfit, too.

I actually liked the pink that Daniel picked, but the dress? No.

    • MintaHallWriter

Patricia & Stanley in the middle? I’d have thought in the top…

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Lawd please don’t send Sam home! I love her designs this season.

      • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

        Not the skirt tonight though.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Michelle is so lucky she didn’t have time to make that stupid vest.

      • EveEve

I liked the idea of the vest – maybe not in black, but I do wish she’d had enough time to at least develop the idea of it beyond what we got to see. It looked edgy and structural.

    • OrigamiRose

Dang it, Michelle is on a winning streak now. I can’t believe Snidely didn’t pull her down.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        I can’t even.

      • Fordzo

OMG at Snidely? Why didn’t I see it before this?

        • OrigamiRose

I can’t remember who coined it but I think it was in the “meet the designers” post way back when ;)

          • Call me Bee

It was us old farts who actually remember Snidely Whiplash on the Dudley Doright Show!

    • ChristinaRi

      Surprised!

    • blondie65

Rachel Roy should be a judge every week…love her comments!

      • Lisa_Cop

I wonder if Zac bailed after last week when he couldn’t believe the contestants couldn’t make shirts. He realized PR is a game show; sophisticated critiques just go over their heads.

    • ChristinaRi

They should have let Michelle have done the whole stupid dress thing.

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Daniel’s dress looks like a Nurse uniform/scrub lol

      • bringbackbeatles

That’s exactly what I said, lol!

    • Jasmaree

All of a sudden Daniel is so very happy about all the advice Michelle gave him.

      • blondie65

        I know…really?

    • zelavie

      Those are some hard-fought compliments.

    • alula_auburn

Oh, wow, they really sound pressed praising Daniel’s. “It’s a fine dress. . .for many occasions.”

      • OrigamiRose

I know, I think that was one of the first style of dresses I wore in high school trying to be more “adult.”

        That was eighteen years ago.

      • AnneElliot

Serious Joan Collins shoulders — but “who doesn’t love Joan Collins” ???? Everyone — thirty years ago!!

        • write_light

Exactly! I loved her too- when I watched her on Dynasty! SHE IS NOT “NOW”.

    • Call me Bee

      Hi I’m here!!

Sorry I’m late–many obligations today. I recorded the episode so I’ll watch later.

      • Peeve

        Glad you made it!

    • nosniveling

Samantha’s is awful, too bad coz I liked her…

      • ThaliaMenninger

She’s lucky somebody likes her — I guess Richard will be going home, even though his isn’t the worst.

      • zelavie

I like her too – I’d love to see what she could do in a non-team season, with some free reign in her designs.

    • Jasmaree

You could see that dress on a rack at Forever 21.

      • OrigamiRose

I don’t even think the Forever 21 crowd would be buying that… solely because of that heart. Ugh.

        • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

lol you must not go into XXI, they have plenty of tops and dresses with heart cut outs. every season.

    • Qitkat

I thought Samantha’s was going to be so cute in the workroom, but that tiered skirt is horrible, like a disco French maid.

    • blondie65

“No woman should match her handbag to her shoes.” Rachel FTW!

      • Fordzo

        Don’t tell my Nana!

        • DeTrop

Your Nana must be my age. The rules then were shoes and bags match; hat and gloves match. We’ve come a long way baby. I now have polka-dot shoes, leopard shoes and who knows what else is laying at the bottom of my closet. Frightening if you think about it.

          • Fordzo

Nana matches her purse to her shoes AND her belt if the occasion calls for one. She does wear hats and gloves to church and if she ever dies (because Nana admits that she is as old as Methuselah – those are HER words, not mine – but she thinks she still has a good 20 years in her) there will be a bloody war in her closet because all her granddaughters (and one grandson) are mentally claiming every garment and accessory in there. She has some really stunning dresses that her own mother wore in the late 20′s and 30′s.

            • DeTrop

Your Nana is a lucky woman to have her grandchildren want her clothes etc. She must have great taste. Thanks for sharing and I wish her many years.

            • Fordzo

I could go on and on. She has these little, detachable fur collars that she wears with all her cardigans and she has one of those scarf things made of a fox that look like it’s chewing on it’s own back leg. She won’t wear that outside the nursing home, though, because she’s afraid someone will throw red paint on her. Every spring she bundles up her furs and sends them to “cold storage”, which I think might just be a closet at the back of a dry cleaners somewhere, but she insists on it. When I look at photos of her as a young woman, I feel very frumpy and schlumpy.

    • ThaliaMenninger

      Layana’s feels like Target.

      • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Layana for Target? not so bad. . .

      • Fordzo

Not even Target. That is 100% Sophia Vergara for Kmart. That’s pleather, not leather, right?

        • ThaliaMenninger

I can see that. The pleather and the dark print just looked really cheap to me, like a couple of seasons ago when everybody was pushing cheap maxi dresses. I would say Old Navy but you’re right that the busty shape pushes it into Sofia Vergara territory.

    • OrigamiRose

I don’t like Layana’s dress, but I hardly think the print is that hideous. Am I nuts? Drunk? Just sick of Heidi?

      • Peeve

I didn’t think it was hideous, either. Guess I’m old, ’cause I kinda liked it! (Or maybe, I’m drunk, too.)

      • tonibaloney

        I *liked* the print.

      • zelavie

I’m with you too – I don’t see the problem with the print. Maybe it’s not ultra-modern, but it’s nice enough.

      • Pennymac

The colors of the print I think, sunk it. Muted and dull.

      • blondie65

I am with you on your last 2..emphasis on the last. I think the only mistake was that dress should have been shorter…not as long/beachy (which is not the look a NY based store would gravitate to for $250!)

        • OrigamiRose

It did have sort of a Uli-feel to it, didn’t it?

          • ThaliaMenninger

More whatsername from the island with no sleeves. Anya. Sorry. It took me a minute to remember her name.

            • OrigamiRose

Oh I totally missed that season. Now I feel bad, as I know Anya by reputation and feel awful attaching Uli’s name to anything Anya-esque.

      • dschubba

I liked hers (and don’t really mind the print) and I’m, AT BEST, a quarter-drunk.

        • OrigamiRose

Only 1/4 drunk? We’re going to have to tighten up the drinking game rules for next week ;)

          • AnneElliot

I counted crazy eyes from Patricia at least six times. I would have been drunk by the end if I was drinking tonight.

            • OrigamiRose

Poor Patricia and those cray cray eyes. Okay, next Thursday, we drink for cray cray eyes and crying :)

      • Qitkat

I didn’t understand the dislike either. “Mumsy”? Who says that? lol
I think she ought to have looked for a leather in a complementary color instead of the black.

    • Peeve

That was a scared little glance Layana shot at Richard when she called his dress out…

    • Slade Thunderdragon

Most ugly thing on the runway- Daniel’s
Most boring thing on the runway- Stanley’s
Best thing on the runway- Michelle’s
Worst outfit on the worst team- Layana’s

I want Layana out, but I think it’s going to be Richard going home.

      • ThaliaMenninger

I’d say Samantha’s is the ugliest, Daniel’s is the most boring (Mary Kay Lady circa 1985), Michelle’s is the best, and Layana’s looks the cheapest.

        • Slade Thunderdragon

I agree that Samantha’s was unsuccessful, but Daniel’s was wrinkly and shiny and gross looking.

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Rachel Roy needs to be a permanent fixture of this show. Her comments are great.

    • dschubba

LOL @ the look on Lady Lord & Taylor’s face when Rachel defended Samantha’s dress/customer.

    • carolclark12

I wonder how many times Nina had to stop the filming so she could gag on the lines she was forced/happy to say in praise of Samantha’s dress.

    • ChristinaRi

What I don’t like about this episode is the women getting together to decide who they want to go home.

      • BuffaloBarbara

I hate the whole thing about them asking the contestants who should go home. It’s not like they use the input. It’s purely for dumb, dumb drama.

        • Qitkat

          I agree so strongly!

        • guest2visits

Yes – and why does it feel like it’s Heidi’s favorite game?

    • BuffaloBarbara

What is it they were liking in the shape of Layana’s or Richard’s? Just… big, too-long sacks. And Richard’s model looked like she was tripping over the hem.

I think L&T might have better luck with a juniors division than in getting twentysomethings. Juniors’ parents buy their clothes.

      That said, Samantha’s look… no.

I’d rather keep Samantha than Richard, but that dress was a horrendous response to this challenge.

    • OrigamiRose

Wow, I am going to blame my brain scramble on Disqus… it was Saks, not L&T, that closed in Portland a couple years ago, as I stated much earlier.

      I still hate Michelle :)

    • dschubba

Samantha’s dress is hiddy, but I hope she stays.

    • OrigamiRose

      WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?

    • tonibaloney

      DANG.

    • Jasmaree

I’m convinced that after Tim’s negative critique, Daniel just wanted to build up evidence to throw Michelle under the bus and make himself look like a good guy.

    • Pennymac

Wow. I wasn’t expecting Sam to go. Wow.

      • MoHub

The judges got it wrong again. And poor Sam got caught between Richard and Layana and had to play go-between. She didn’t deserve this.

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

OMG! it’s because She doesn’t fight enough in the workroom. Richard is constantly tacky and cheap looking smh.

      • OrigamiRose

Yup. The only time Samantha was technically on the bottom was when that train wreck of a huge team of hers was – as I recall, her garments were not the reason the team was stinking up the sky. This is the first time she was really on the bottom for her look – unlike the Hallmarq card, who has been here before and who CLEARLY is being kept for his melodramatics.

Samantha at least maintained her dignity, even in the face of an unjustified auf.

    • alula_auburn

aw, rats. Sam’s might have been a mess, but Richard is fundamentally boring, and irritating to boot.

    • zelavie

Sounds about right. Keep the drama as long as possible. Should’ve been Richard, though.

    • blondie65

      DAMN. That was a shame.

    • ChristinaRi

I do not like that little Layana person, but I’m sorry to see Samantha go. I kind of love her.

      • carolclark12

So dismissive – “that little Layana person” …. I love it!

    • NDC_IPCentral

Awwww. Poor Samantha. And she is very disappointed. She is a more mature person than some of those remaining….

      • zelavie

And that maturity is what kept Richard in over her.

        • NDC_IPCentral

Ain’t that the rueful truth. The producers want childish squabbling, not adult design.

      • MoHub

        Than ANY of those remaining.

    • bringbackbeatles

Patricia – Shocked the hell out of me. I really didn’t think I’d like the pants and top together, but she managed to keep the shape youthful and it works for me. That top is so me, it’s not even funny.

Stanley – It as chic. I don’t really like the top being quite that loose. The shade of pink was very pretty, but the dress was just kind of boring.

Michelle – I love this, but it reminds me a lot of Mondo’s All Star dress with the shape and color blocking, but I would wear it. Love the colors and so glad she ditched the “rain vest.”

Daniel – Hate it. Sleeve hems look really half-assed. Reminds me of a medical scrub on top with the shape and fabric. He went on and on about how modern it was, but was, by far, the most dated thing on the runway. Hello, 80′s!

Samantha – At least it’s interesting I guess. There is way too much going on: four different colors, a multi-layered skirt, a heart cut-out on the back, and a kind of racer-back shaped top. Also it looks really sloppy.

Richard – It’s a nice dress. I love the black and pink, but this is a dead ringer for that jersey dress he already did. I also agreed with Bonnie that it was casual, but not casual enough, etc.

Layana – Pretty and loved the leather, buy would have preferred a different print. Flowed nicely.

      • AnneElliot

Michelle’s dress reminded me of Mondo’s as well. I’ll have to look it up and compare. I think his was also a retail challenge, where they had to stay within a budget for mass production.

        • MoHub

Soft Surroundings sells tunics with a very similar line. And has for years.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Oh wow. DId not see that coming. I mean, yeah, hers was the worst. It looks like a skating costume. But Samantha is very talented. She just really screwed up this challenge. Why didn’t she put her model in what SHE was wearing?

    • dschubba

Patricia and Richard outlasted Samantha. Patricia and Richard.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Anyone see the fine, light hand of Bunim-Murray shaping the outcomes?

    • Jasmaree

Ew. It looks so much worse mass-produced. Much cheaper looking.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Again I say – current Target.

    • ChristinaRi

      So Michelle’s dress was redesigned.

    • tonibaloney

Michelle’s dress looks really shitacular in the window. What happened?

      • OrigamiRose

        And when was that filmed?

        • alula_auburn

I did love how obviously freezing it was out, haha.

          • NDC_IPCentral

If it truly was premiered today, March 21, it was pretty nippy in these here Greater Gotham parts…..

    • NDC_IPCentral

HUNH. Michelle’s made-in-one-day runway look looked a LOT better than that schmatta in the window at L&T….. What happened?

      • EveEve

Her original was high end silk and leather – I’m guessing the L&T version is something…less…

        • lessax3

          It’ll still be $250.00 though.

        • NDC_IPCentral

Yes, but I think that L&T ought to have been able to come up with alternate fabrics that were workable. Their interpretation is a NO BUY, and I think the expression on Michelle’s face as she looked at it was a bit less thrilled, if I recollect. How many takes did the camera person have to cajole her to gush?

          • BrooklynBomber

Plus, wasn’t her contrast color gray? Yellow and gray is such a great combination. It looks like they changed it to gold.

            • MoHub

Taupe per Michelle’s comment. The original grey was far better.

            • BrooklynBomber

I happened to pass by Lord & Taylor on a bus today. It seemed a little more taupey and the top seemed a bit ombre-ish. (Don’t quote me, though–it was a drive-by perusal.)

          • formerlyAnon

You’d think they could do better especially since they were probably able to unilaterally choose the winner whatever the deliberation process looked like on t.v. (I haven’t yet gotten to the judging in my late viewing) – they knew what they’d be getting into.

      • lessax3

Yeah, um, what did they do to it. The bottom looked odd and wrinkly while Michelle’s looked like a soft suede.

    • zelavie

I always enjoy the textile design episode, if only because it forces these people to work with prints!

      • EveEve

        Seems like a made-for-Patricia episode.

    • alula_auburn

ugh, is Michelle going to start channelling Kenley with headgear now?

    • Qitkat

I can’t disagree on the auf, but sad. Thought she might go to the end.

    • Peeve

I hate that Samantha is going. It really should have been Daniel. Michelle saved his bacon big time. His dress was far worse and more dated than Samantha’s or Richard’s.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI yahoo-FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI

I felt Daniel’s was the weakest entry by far, but Michelle had to win, so their team had to be the top. It would have been hard to market any outfit at Lord and Taylor other than Michelle’s. Stanley’s was amazing but too subtly fitted and shaped to work in a mass market. Layana’s was too much for 45 year-olds even if nice looking and was too long. Patricia’s was good looking but too hard to manufacture. For Richard, the sleek wide stripey pink shape didn’t go with the rest of the dress. Samantha’s was too complicated and strange. Just off-the-cuff impressions.

    • CarolinLA

Oh, come ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s so fucked up.

    • Fordzo

      Taupe?

      • tonibaloney

        Her?

    • Qitkat

OK kittens, help me out here. How did anyone use the rose as inspiration? Aside from pink.

      • OrigamiRose

Um. Leaves? When they fall in the spring are this bright green… or something like that.

        • Qitkat

          What??
          That makes no sense.

          • OrigamiRose

Wasn’t that what Michelle said – something about leaves and green in spring? It was a total b.s. answer.

            • BrooklynBomber

Buds. When the buds appear on the branches. Something like that.

            • Qitkat

Geez, I sure missed that. Probably when my husband and I were talking back to the TV ;-)

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I completely forgot about the rose thing. Layana’s print makes so much more sense now. Still hiddy, but understandable.

      • MoHub

Samantha absolutely channeled the rose. And it got her auf‘d.

    • CarolinLA

So now we know Daniel’s two inspirations are Molly Ringwald and Joan Collins. Christ, his shit is dated.

    • SugarSnap108

Ugh. I thought Daniel’s was by far the worst. Being with Michelle saved him; the judges obviously wanted her to win (I agree with that), so they became the winning ‘team.’ Poor Samantha. She’s talented and mature, and just f’d this one up.

      • lessax3

I thought he might drag her down since in the past a team has been safe even with what would have been the winning look, but then realized this challenge was an exception. This was for the main sponsor of the show, so the final vote for the win went with what they wanted to produce not necessarily the team with the highest score.

        • BuffaloBarbara

I think it may even have been a simple matter of whether they thought Daniel’s or Stanley’s was more boring. Stanley’s lost.

        • http://twitter.com/DuBey2 Marie Fessler

Thank you. Now I understand. Still steamed that Daniel didn’t get auf’d though.

    • CarolinLA

Patricia’s was lovely I thought. If the capris had been white I think the contrast would’ve given Michelle a bit of a run for her money. Stanley’s was dull, dull, dull. Not as bad as Daniel’s but just barely.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Man, I am hating this Disqus format – it’s putting old posts that I know first appeared an hour ago or more “above.”

Our pleasurable ability to discuss and discourse is all at sixes and sevens now.

      • tonibaloney

Yeah, it’s getting rather Groundhog Day in here.

      • formerlyAnon

I find I have to keep selecting “oldest” to get the comments to stay in order. They seem to reorder themselves less often than every time something new is posted, but I haven’t figured out what the triggers are.

        • OrigamiRose

Until I happened upon your comment, I’d been going with newest first but you’re right – the only way the order stays is for them to load oldest first :(

      • MoHub

What I hate is my inability to select specific pages I want to view and the fact that I have to open everything to search for my own posts.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQG2B3GDOIKSFYT6YDXFVOMEM4 A. Lure

Why wasn’t Stan sent home?* His dress contained no design whatsoever. I’ve made more intricate dresses than this. Hell, even Anya didn’t send anything as plain as this. It looks as if it’s the first garment he’s ever made. He’s not as professional as he presents himself to be. He eschewed Tim’s advice. Yes, the design needs to be sufficiently simple to manufacture, but it also needs to generate some interest. Why would any woman want to buy that?

      * Patricia saved his ass. Her ensemble was lovely: she harnessed her wilder, craftier impulses (to his credit Stan helped with that) and produced something flowing, eye-catching, and well designed.

    • CarolinLA

Michelle needs to get down on her knees and thank Tim Gunn for steering her away from that rain vest.

    • guest2visits

Ugh Disqus… how can everything I post be ‘one hour ago’ when it was 5 minutes??
And yes I already submitted a complaint to your site – but I feel anyone who designed this format must not actually use it.
Who would have thought that the change of font and altering the shape of each post so that it appears to be one long, endless list instead of individual comments, would be such a huge turn-off. Instead of messages that read cleanly and with some personal style – I have one long smear of letters without any character. Also missing is the handy page to page feature; now I have the clumsy scroll which means searching for people I haven’t read yet and trying to find past comments is much more time consuming. Using the site is a much less pleasing experience. The former like-option was the best icon for encouraging responses; not the apathetic, pale little marks there now. Congratulations on cold and boring.

      • BrooklynBomber

The thumbs up function has also changed to little up or down arrows, and it seems you can no longer see who clicked them. And above “leave a message” bar, I have a yellow star with a 0 next to it, and I haven’t a clue what it means.

        • guest2visits

Sorry; I can’t tell you what it means either! I’m exploring the different signs and icons still, and mostly just trying
to get IE9 to take. Right now I’m stuck on Chrome, and not so pleased. I will try other browsers soon; but I have
to do it when I have plenty of time to sit and figure it out. I’m not at all computer savvy – I just play when I can.
I am curious to know what everyone else is seeing on their screens; if it is the same Disqus scroll as I have or
do different browsers offer different looking formats? (I hope so.)

      • Qitkat

I could not possibly agree more. The old format felt much more friendly and encouraged interesting back and forth discussions. Especially on TLounge nights, those of us who came here regularly felt connected in a way that encouraged both friendly banter and serious personal concerns. Even when I wasn’t a part of a discussion, I enjoyed reading them. I miss that. It feels as if a genuine experience has been reduced to the lowest common denominator. I wanted to comment here because the interactions have an authenticity which is missing from a great deal of the Internet. Obviously many of us feel the same way. Disqus, indeed is cold and boring now.

        Bitter Kittens revolt!

        • OrigamiRose

It seems to maintain some semblance of order if you load oldest first. Not my preferred method of scroll but I love this place too much to lose it on Thursday nights… So I’ll try whatever I can to stick with the BK’s :)

          • MoHub

            Refreshing frequently also helps.

        • guest2visits

Hey Qitkat; Thanks for your input; you said it best!
I also value the skilled and interesting bloggers and their posts.
Maybe by slow inches, I will stumble on a better way to view this site.

      • Lilithcat

Due to this new format, I find myself reading the comments less, posting less, and replying less.

      • blondie65

Totally agree. The last 20 minutes of the show I gave up trying to follow the BK’s and keep up with loading new comments & having to reload them oldest first, then scroll through to reload everything (of course the 3rd glass of merlot probably contributed to my inability to “make it work” :-) ). Anyway…just adding my voice in agreement that this new Disque format really takes out a lot of the fun/interaction of the Lounge.

    • guest2visits

Disappointed Samantha was auf’t. When she had her materials laid out, I didn’t like the colors and I couldn’t see where she was going – but it didn’t matter – since it was Samantha and I knew she had talent; I figured it would end up being one of the top designs. But it wasn’t. In fact it turned out so badly… I don’t care how young she was aiming for – that was an ugly dress.
I don’t really buy the judges praise for it; although she did put alot of technique and work into it – it just crashed and burned.
Still it felt like Richard got a pass for a nice beach cover-up. It didn’t look expensive and it didn’t look like a dress – and it
got all it’s glamour from the chic hair style and shiny bag. So now I’m pouting that Samantha, Amanda, and Kate are gone.
I thought the best looks were from Stanley and Michelle; I was leaning toward Stanley because I just love that kind of clean
elegant dress – while Michelle’s simple frock with a perfectly suitable fresh color, was likely to appeal to an even younger customer; which it seemed like L&T was looking for anyway.
Patricia’s design MUST have alot to thank Stanley for; she was talking about doing more of her special reworked material
techniques for the pants – even after Tim scolded her for taking on these projects. She was totally incapable of seeing that
she needed to make CLOTHES without Stanley drawing a circle around it. And of course in the end she took all the credit for
her design. It was a good result, and I think it was better than Daniel’s, and possibly Layana’s.
I liked Layana’s print, but it wasn’t as ‘youthful’ as they were looking for. Daniel’s pink fabric would have worked fine if he
could have just let go of some of his dated styling, as in the shoulders. He had the same separation anxiety from his hard
held fashion ideas as Richard did last week……. And it was awesome! :)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI yahoo-FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI

I can’t believe how much I agree with you! Extremely well-said and thought out.

    • http://twitter.com/jamiehoovs JLH

Well, I will have to disagree with myself slightly from earlier posts this season now that Patricia made the second thing I’ve semi-liked from her and Daniel went crazy. I agree with another poster who said he mainly looked tired and lord knows how I get when I’m tired, but I was disappointed to see him go from calm to cray in 60 seconds. I still think he’s probably a legitimately nice person but I feel so burned by his overreaction tonight.

I wasn’t a fan of Samantha’s dress but I liked her overall as a designer so I was sad to see her go before 1 or 2 that I still consider to be definite fodder. Loved Michelle’s dress and was sad to see L&T goof with the inevitable show-to-store fixes. Finally, am I the only one who wasn’t totally opposed to the original blazer that Daniel was working on? There were obvious elements that needed tweaking and I don’t think pairing it with the same color shorts would have been wise but I love a good blazer and I actually liked that pink. He’s very lucky that Michelle’s looked so damn cool because his final product was not working for me.

    • ZnSD

Uh, Samantha’s dress was FUG. So while I might’ve liked some of her earlier offerings, that shit was NAST. 2nd runner up for FUG? DANIEL. Bitch. Be Warned.

    • MoHub

Or, according to Heidi, Lorton Taylor’s.

      • Targettaste

That drove me nuts. I’m still not sure if it’s Marie Claire or Mary Claire, but I KNOW it’s not Lorton Taylors.

        • MoHub

Heidi’s had 2 seasons now to learn the correct pronunciation, but she still can’t get it right.

As for pronouncing Marie Claire Mahry Clair, that’s a Briticism based on an age-old English tradition of Anglicizing foreign words and names. For instance, Brits eat “pie-ell-a” when the rest of us have paella.

I more or less agree with the outcome of this episode.
Michelle’s was nice. Funny that they didn’t make her thank her team mate and Tim for getting rid of the awful rain vest. Who wears a vest to keep rain off? And generally rainwear is sold in a different department than better sportswear.
Daniel’s was bad. I actually liked the color. He should have stuck with shorts though. Who thinks a knee length short sleeve dress is “younger” than shorts? Not me.
As a team I thought Stanley and Patricia were the strongest. I could see both outfits hanging in Lord and Taylor’s and the same customer buy both outfits too.Design wise Stanley’s was very subtle . But it did look extremely refined. So did Patricia’s for that matter.
Unfortunately for Samantha her dress was the worst looking and the least likely to be sold in Lord and Taylor. I didn’t think Richard’s was all that bad. And I didn’t think the young one’s (name?) was all that good or young. In fact the two that weren’t Samantha’s looked like the same customer would buy for a patio party or something.
