Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta

Posted on March 01, 2013

Attagirl, Tina. Attagirl.

Tina Fey attends ‘Hey Dummies: An Evening With The 30 Rock Writers’ at The Paley Center in New York City in an Oscar de la Renta dress.

Oscar de la Renta Crepe Peplum Dress

Darlings, it’s just SO rewarding to see a star learn how to dress themselves right in front of your eyes. We would like to join all our fellow bitchy red carpet commenters out there, from Joan Rivers to the Fug Girls, and pat each other on the back for a job well done. We did it, you guys. We yelled at someone so much about her bad red carpet choices that she actually got better at it. Next stop: Christina Hendricks. Who’s with us?

Please don’t shatter our illusions, darlings. If we want to take credit for this dress, even though we have no right to, we’re going to do it, by God.

      Ooh I love her shoes.

      • kimmeister

I’m so glad she’s not wearing ones similar to the model’s.

        • Meg0GayGuys6

I was thinking the same.  After I noticed the model’s shoes, I scrolled back up to make sure Tina was wearing a different pair.  She looks great and she knows it!  Love it :)

    • jack_clementine

she’s certainly come a long way, she looks beautiful and polished!

    • warnerave

      werq!

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

She looks wonderful. But is it ok if I just make this general interjection? “No more goddamn peplums!”

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

      • drdirection

        gawd!  they are everywhere!!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I love peplums.  What I emphatically do NOT love is a tacked on peplum that makes no damn sense as part of the whole look.  Which is what we’re seeing a lot of these days.

        • StellaZafella

Correct. A peplum is an intrinsic element of the design of a garment aimed at enhancing the figure and shapeliness of the wearer…when it appears to be tacked on as an afterthought it’s an…innertube (for swimmin’ in the cri’ck.)

          • EditKitten

LOL. Crick. I almost miss saying that. ;)

          • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

True story: I grew up in rural PA, in a town through which ran the Conewango Creek. But of course, it was pronounced “crick,” and I spent many years–more than I am prepared to admit–not realizing that “creek” and “crick” were the same word.

We also said “pop” instead of soda, but after decades of saying “soda,” “pop” sounds so weird to me. But I still say “crick;” that habit has yet to be broken.

            • kimmeister

How do people in rural PA pronounce ‘ornery’?  99% of the times I’ve ever heard anyone say it, they say it like “ON-ree.”  Took me a long time to figure out they were saying ‘ornery.’

            • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

Most people I knew said “on-ree,” though my grandpa always said “orn-ree,” which I heard, as a kid, as “horn-ree.”

            • KateShouldBeWorking

Being from Minnesota, I got tired of being teased for saying “pop” instead of “soda” so I trained myself out of it. Only partially, apparently. I realized – like, two weeks ago – that I still say “orange pop”. Naturally, I got teased for it.

              Cool story, right?

            • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

To me, any story that involves someone getting (rightfully) teased for saying “pop” is a cool story. I am being 100% sincere. :D

              (soda x vida, vatos)

            • megohd

I lived in Chicago for one year and by the end I was saying “pop.” I kind of miss it.

I also picked up “washroom,” though I’m not as fond of that one.

            • WhiteOprah

Lifelong Michigander here and we always say “Pop”.  I didn’t know other regions said it- learn something new every day.  :)

              I’ve also heard “Crick” used.

            • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

I’m from Texas where we call all carbonated beverages “Coke”.  As in “Would you like a Coke? What kind? We have Pepsi and Diet Sprite.”  Makes no sense.  We also regularly drank Coke – the real Coke – as a breakfast drink.  And we were normal-ish, middle class people.

            • RebeccaKW

Coke and Ranch dressing go with every meal. (fellow Texas girl)

      • Meg0GayGuys6

…or off your hips, as the case may be

    • editrixie

Love her always, and love her here from head to toe.

    • Annabelle Archer

      Slow clap.

      For you TLo.

      Ok, for Tina too.

    • decormaven

She listened! [whispers]. It came true.

      • Madeleine Rodriguez

I cackled at this.  Thanks for that.

      • MilaXX

you win the internet for this post!

        • decormaven

Aww! You folks have made my day!

    • Reneesance

Oooh she looks so sharp and sassy *Sniffle* they grow up so fast!

    • charlotte

      That’s my girl!

    • MilaXX

I assume this is the hair Jayma was aiming for. Who’da’ thunk Tina would be showing her up.
If you guys can work this kind of magic on Christina Hendricks, I’m sending you all muffin baskets.

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Now, see, I don’t like this hairstyle on Tina.  She has such beautiful hair that I think she should wear it down for that reason alone, but I also don’t think this hairstyle suits the shape of her head/face.

        • sweetestsith

She has beautiful thick hair and I love that she doesn’t keep it strictly up or down, that would be boring. I also think down would be too busy for this outfit.

I think I’m with you on this particular hair though, it isn’t quite right for her face. Up and magically different would have been my preference…

        • MilaXX

I don’t mind it and unlike Jayma’s it looks like an actual hair style. It’s neater and looks like someone took the time to brush & style it. As far as an updo goes, this looks pretty good.

    • Trisha26

I actually don’t mind the peplum because it’s echoed in the skirt, makes it more cohesive instead of a dust-ruffle for hips.

    • EveEve

If you do this for Christina Hendricks then what will be left to moan about?!?

      • MK03

        Zooey Deschanel, that’s what.

      • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

        And January Jones.

      • Introspective

Let us not forget Julianne Hough. Ah our work here is never done.

        XTina. Florence Welch. Heidi.

        • CakesOnAPlane

PLEASE let us never fix FloWelch. I love her sartorial insanity as-is.

      • charlotte

         Lindsay Lohan!

    • Melanie_Bee

She looks so good; I feel so proud.  And I’m not the biggest fan of peplums, but it works so well here – very flattering.

    • NDC_IPCentral

A very handsome, becoming and appropriate look.  LOVE the lip color.

    • Tr16ia

She’s getting so much right that she’s forcing me to be really picky,  so I’ll say that the earrings aren’t the right choice.

    • Pants_are_a_must

GOOD FOR YOU, TINA FEY. GOOD FOR YOU.

    • peachy

breathe, chickie. she looks like she is totes holding her breath!

    • MK03

Tina Fey is my spirit animal. LOVE THIS WOMAN.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

      She looks gorgeous!

    • Elizabeth Silverstein

Whoever said feminists have no sense of humor and dress like men never met Tina Fey. I LOVE HER.

    • rloliveira

      Oh, I want that dress!

    • jw_ny

Could that lbd be any more perfect for her?!  Tina deserves the “attagirl”

    • dorothea_brooke

Yes!  And she looks like she KNOWS she looks good too.  Get it girl!

    • Imasewsure

Very cute, easy LBD (you did it boys!) but hate the hair and makeup… please please let’s turn our powers for good on Ms Hendricks next. She deserves it… and so do we!

    • Janet B

She is having a very good year.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

This is a GREAT shape for her!

(Apropos of nothing, I had to Google you guys for some reason — I don’t remember why, I was looking for an interview you’d done or something — and the first result for “tom and lorenzo” that wasn’t this site? A Google Books result for The Great Movie Musical Trivia Book.  I laughed my ass off)

    • aeb1986

i love the cut of the skirt. its so feminine and sexy!

    • Beverly Kozma

She looks goooood.  Now, as I’ve said before, I love peplums  (when you have a soft middle and a flat rear, they really help)  but where did they all come from all of a sudden?  It’s like they’re raining from the sky.

    • nannypoo

I’m not wild about the hair, but everything else here is perfect.

    • Indigo54

Yeah Babyeeee!    That’s how it’s done!  Sarah Palin eat your heart out!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

And her skin looks gorgeous!  How did you do that???

      • charlotte

Unicorn tears? Or maybe Sabor de Soledad.

    • snarkykitten

       brava!

    • rococodada

I hope somebody uploads this event onto YouTube- would lovelovelove to see that!

      • MilaXX

They often have the events available on their site or hulu & I think iTunes.

    • jilly_d

Nailed it! Love you girl. You look hot. Good to see her in a short(er) dress.

    • JauntyJohn

      A Home Run.
Chic, sexy, comfortable, and completely suits who she is.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I would never dream of giving credit to anyone but the two of you. Job well done men.

    • gracedarling

Beautiful. She looks like a classical Greek statue come to life.

I also love how the model, on first glance, appears to have ear gauges. Cuts through the classicism in a really intriguing way.

    • bertkeeter

Also on her way to a wedding in Teanck, NJ.

    • http://twitter.com/SuzBald Susan Baldwin

SO chic.  Hair and makeup so very suitable.  Rad earrings.  Posing like a pro.  Ok, C.Hendrix….lessgo!!!

    • http://twitter.com/skitzfiggitous skitzfiggitous

She is a tragic example for nerdy, insecure girls everywhere, because as much as she might insist, homegirl is FIIIIINE. I generally aspire to be anywhere near her brain, but I also admire everything I see here. Bravo.

    • dschubba

      This is definitely her dress.

    • butterflysunita

Awesome.  Girl, that is so your dress.

    • http://twitter.com/katoshicksu Kate

      Like a boss.

    • unbornfawn

Well done, Miss Tina, well done.

      Good luck with Christina!

    • Molly Sulds

She looks fabulous and she knows it. So nice to see this transformation

    • meowing

Dare I say it:  elegant.  Personal best.  Hair and makeup are excellent, and the dress is beautiful.  Brava.

    • ashtangajunkie

She looks fantastic. I love her; it’s great to see her looking so lovely.

    • alyce1213

Now THAT’S a woman totally in charge.  Great.

    • formerlyAnon

You guys! When is your award ceremony?

Though maybe they’re waiting for you to fix Ms. Hendricks’ failings and just make it national celebration with a paid day off work for everyone.

P.s. Her hair could be more impressive, but I quibble.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

She looks GORGEOUS. You guys did a great job.

    • http://twitter.com/Chucko78 Chuck Barthelme

She is so rocking that look. Always been a fan of her smart girl hotness. Glad she’s figuring out how to do that look.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

…i’m not a fan of the lighter hair.

    • Crystal

      ATTAGIRL.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

Oh she looks so glamorous, elegant, and sophisticated. *tear

    • ccm800

      credit given!

    • Frank Lithium

Her smug little smirk? Well deserved.

    • Damien W

I’m iffy on the Eurobitch hairdo. She may look great, but she doesn’t look like Tina Fey.

      What price glamour?

    • glennethph

She seems to have lost some weight, I think that helps with the clothes and her confidence to wear some outfits.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/37TPKASIMXVUPYK5BNQFOL43KU Carina

You GO Liz Lemon! She looks spectacular!

    • leftcoastpickle

Fucking awesome was my first thought. Tina should rule the world!

    • erinbinek

So cute!  She needs to buy this shape of dress in every color of the rainbow.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

      Gorgeous, Tina. Perfection.

    • http://twitter.com/ticking_tocking Amy

She looks amazing but, of course there’s a but, as a bespectacled gal myself I kind of miss her glasses.

    • littlemac8

      YESSSS!!!!!
