Olivia Wilde in Hervé Léger on Jay Leno

Posted on March 13, 2013

This is the third semi-cute to cute outfit she’s worn in a row. Maybe she’s on a style upswing. Of course, we define “style upswing” as “wearing 3 dresses that T Lo like.”

But seriously:

Olivia Wilde makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ in a Hervé Léger dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti pumps.

Hervé Léger by Max Azria Fall 2013 Collection

Cute, right? The hair’s kind of a mess, but this makes a fantastic TV sit-down dress. It’s swingy and comfortable, feminine and eye-catching. And she doesn’t look like she’s afraid she’s flashing panty or that it’s bunching up when she sits down. It’s a dress that (theoretically) lets her just be herself.

Seriously, ladystars. If you’re sitting down on camera, that should be your starting point for picking out an outfit. Just one more bit of unasked-for advice in a long line of similar bits.

  • Very eye catching dress, and love the pop of color with the red shoes! Not crazy about the ombre hair though. Looks accidental, like a bad, frazzled dye job growing out.

  • Liv, girl, love your outfit (especially the red shoes).  But must you continue to shun CONDITIONER in your hair?!

    • Sobaika

She needs a dye job, trim, hot oil treatment, and then we can demonstrate the wonders of shea butter conditioner.

      • Okay, yep, I’m in.  Let’s make J. Biel participate as well.  Her hair is similarly heinous.

      • aeb1986

        And maybe some more makeup…?

        • Sobaika

She’s pretty without it though, and it’s not red carpet so I don’t think warpaint is all too necessary. But I’m of the mind that those who can go fresher faced should do it while they can.

          • aeb1986

thats true. shes gorgeous i just think the stage lighting makes her look washed out on camera

          • lovelyivy

I thought the same thing, but when I look again I actually think her face is fine. That hair is so bad and oddly colored and dry that IMO it worked against the makeup, which is actually nice.

    • girliecue

It seems that to balance out giving her a sublimely gorgeous face, the universe gave her super fine problem hair that dries out to the consistency of straw if any chemical or heat comes close to it, yet will look like an oil slick if even one extra drop of conditioner is accidentally applied. I know a few gals that have her kind of hair and they spend a lot of time crying. And wearing hats or a ponytail.

      • Alexandra Murray

Yup. The French twist is my friend!

  • NYCGlamourpuss

That’s the PERFECT sit down dress for a talk show!  I like it better on her than on the model, and the red shoes for a pop of color are cute!

    • Ceur

It does in fact look a lot better on her than the model, who it looks too big and sad on. I think ‘sitting down’-dresses should be a thing on the same level as ‘eating pants’. I always plan what I’m going to wear according to how much I will eat (buffet = loose shift dress), so why not do the same according to sitting down?

    • Melanie

I do like the styling on the model quite a bit though – the thin long-sleeved t and the boots.  I love that she went simple for her appearance (and I dig her shoes), but I also like that the dress can look totally different as well.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

      Yeah, the shoes are perfect….

  • butterflysunita

What a great dress!  Love the pattern.

  • MilaXX

I’m not a celeb and even I know to do the sit down test with outfits depending on where I plan to wear something. She looks pretty good even if I don’t like the hair.

  • crash1212

Very cute, versatile dress. I love the way the model is wearing it as well. I’ve always wondered why guests on a sit-down show wear such short, tight dresses and then struggle with pulling them down and deploying the strategically placed hand….much easier to wear something like this! Let Olivia school you!

  • That is some seriously sad hair. The dress is cute though.

  • Annabelle Archer

The sad hair and complete lack of jewelry make it seem unfinished. I like the dress, I like the pop of color shoe, but it’s as if they called her from the dressing room before she was ready.

    • halleygee

I had the exact same thought, some jewelry -any jewelry – would have finished this look. About that hair though…

  • MaryanneGirl

That dress is so beautiful, but I am so distracted by her hair. Frizzy, droopy, sad excuse for hair…

  • I think she has about a million movies to poledance for this year, so I know I will be sick of her very, very soon, but I think this looks nice and I love that she wore coloured shoes.

  • Loving the pop of color from her shoes!

  • ankali

The dress is a little problematic for me. Fine from the waist down, but the placement of the black at the top of the bodice elongates and flattens the boobs, both on Olivia and the runway model.

    • kimmeister

Yes – it makes her look like she’s super long waisted and has no hips.  That may (or may not) be true of her actual body, but I doubt she would want to highlight it in that way.

  • She is so lovely. Agree, that it is perfect dress for sit-down interview. Halle, take note!

  • Adorable.

  • Rand Ortega

The dress is fantastic. Not lovin’ the ombre hair. I know it’s trending right now, but… just looks like someone got up & ran off in the middle of their hair appointment.

  • E. D.

Side-eyeing the shoes.  Not sure why.

  • BobStPaul

Sitting down she doesn’t look bad but overall it’s an exceedingly awkward look.  Something about the fit is very off.

  • schadenfreudelicious

compared to Halle’s sit down misfire, this is perfection!

  • snarkykitten

she has cheekbones you could ski down

  • MK03

    WHY can’t I afford Herve Leger?? ;__;

  • Anathema_Device

I want to hoist it up by just a bit–a 1/2 inch or so–because the proportions looks off on the neckline. But really cute otherwise. Agreed on the lank hair.

  • suzinrva

    Lovely décolletage….eyes up, Jay!

  • Pants_are_a_must

Wow, a Hervé Léger dress that actually looks nice and comfy, instead of overly tight and tacky to the extreme? I think the world is coming into an end.

She looks lovely. I personally dig the au naturel-style make up. She’s got a FACE on her, and it doesn’t need a lot of embellishment. The hair is still atrocious.

  • Elizabeth Silverstein

Love this! I covet that dress. Also, her bone structure just kills me it’s so amazing.

  • AnnaleighBelle

Cute, sittable, lively.  I’m really over ombre hair.

I will always love this woman just for her participation in “Half the Sky” and her appearance on The Daily Show in support of it.

“They were singing a song and dancing when I arrived, and I was sort of dancing along and I thought this was some sort of welcome song, and I didn’t understand and later I said, ‘What were we all singing together so joyously?’ and they said, ‘Oh, that was the vagina song.’ And I thought, how did they know my jam?  How did they know that that was my song?  They must have googled me.”

    • BKagainwiththesweatpants

HAH! Absolutely. And that she didn’t come off as the typical celeb douche was refreshing.

Ombre hair and that Stripey Striperton hair that was going on a while back are an abomination. Her hair might’ve been OK to begin with, but tormenting it that way did it no favors. Nevertheless, FIERCE FACE, with seeming intelligence behind it. Which you could be focusing on instead of what you are, Jay Douchebag. God, I loathe him.

  • SugarSnap108

Adorable dress and like the shoes with it.  But it doesn’t look like she even washed her hair, let alone conditioned/styled/whatever else you’re supposed to do for TV.

  • Trisha26

Love the dress & shoes. Nice to see she’s put on a little weight since the early years of HOUSE (not buying it was because her character was “ill” on the show), she looks lovely.

  • musicandmochi

My God, thank you for the pretty. I actually Flove the natural makeup and am pretty okay with her hair. Too big and it looks unnatural anyway.

  • libraangel

OOOHHHH, cutey-pie! Maybe so good-looking because of Jason-love. (But Why is Leno – again- creeping me out by only looking at ladies’ boobs – previously Halle’ s which O>K> you couldn’t miss!)

  • gabbilevy

    Ugh want. Want. want. WANT.

  • marilyn

Not thrilled with how low the top is.  It is just about 2 inches too low.  It makes her boobs look saggy.

  • bd73

it’s funny. the design sort of mirrors her face. the way her cheeks hollow under her cheek bones. the pattern also makes her chest look like it’s on her midsection. not a do.

  • kathrineb

I love this look. That dress and those shoes are happiness-inducing.

  • I love her hair. I was getting so used to a million extensions on everyone, and this is just a wonderful palette cleanser. Limp hair, yeay!

  • amaranth16

I love this look, but does that dress look like it’s covered with mustaches to anyone but me?

  • quiltrx

SUCH a cute dress!!! Not wild about the hair, but neck-down she looks fabulous.  Great choice for a sit-down.

  • Imasewsure

Really cute and I also like the layered look on the model

  • akprincess72

HATE the cocker spaniel hair!  You know, it isn’t compulsory to have a middle part…

  • understateddiva

THAT is proper deployment of the “pop of color” shoe.  None of this bright purple suede platform that clashes with your dress nonsense that was all over the red carpets for a while.

  • AViewer44

It’s cute but it makes her look awfully flat-chested.

    • libraangel

      she is anyway

  • calimon

    Easy, breezy, beautiful!

I don’t normally like Olivia Wilde, but I can’t deny that her, in this look, it’s perfectly normal and fresh, without looking like she’s trying. Even though it’s not red carpet glamour, I’d say she looks better than ever right here. I can’t take my eyes off her!

  • Victoria Sharoyan

I can’t tell in the light, but if that stiletto is silver, I have that same pair of shoes! They’re from Aldo and they’re fabulous–and they look ridiculous on my merely mortal feet.

  • fursa_saida

Also, I’ve seen part of this interview, and she was funny as hell.

  • JauntyJohn

For me, the shoe pop takes this from good to great — especially since it’s a simple shoe and a bright-but-not-neon color in (what looks like) a matte finish, so it’s a terrific touch, not a “Look! I’m deploying the Shoe Pop Trick!”

  • melanie0866

That is cute!  Love the shoes with it.  And yeah, that ombre hair thing needs to be over.

  • EEKstl

Love that she did the color pop with the shoes, but wish she’d done it with lipstick too.  She looks great but needed one thing (eyes or lips) stronger.

  • librarygrrl64

SUPER cute, and the shoes are a perfect choice, IMO. But I wish she’d wear a little jewelry. She seems allergic to it.
