I said it yesterday and I’ll say it agian….

Peeta’s portrait is giving off a Bieber like vibe and it’s pissing me off.

    • siriuslover

But he’s not wearing a gas mask!

    • ChiliP

Peeta looks like he just caught a whiff of some very pungent sourdough, and he is not pleased.

    • MK03

I’m getting a distinct whiff of 90s boy band album cover.

      • I’m pretty sure they stole that outfit from the “I Want It That Way” video.

        • AthenaJ

You just gave voice to the thought that hadn’t even formulated in my mind yet.

        • Jessica O’Connell

Raise your hand if reading “I Want It That Way” got the song stuck in your head or, at the very least, you read it in tune with the chorus!

          • gabbilevy

            :Raises hand:

          • ChiliP

             “TELL ME WHY-YYYY”

Why do I suddenly feel the urge to watch TRL?

          • kimmeister

Good luck finding a time machine!

          • Kristin McNamara

I was in Times Square just last week, waiting on line for those cheapy B’way tickets, and when I walked by that block where TRL used to be filmed, I actually texted my friend to tell her how much I miss that show. I sooo wish it still existed!

          • *Raises hand and weeps*

          • Kristin McNamara

Weep not! Even nowadays, every now and then I’ll get in suuuuuuuper BSB moods on long car-rides, that ultimately culminate in me singing my lungs out to their entire discography. Ashamed, I am not.

          • NinjaCate

You and I. We are the same.

          • Kristin McNamara

      • cpjones79

It’s because of the white rose.

      • KC

I kinda think Peeta giving off a “boy band” vibe is part of the point. I mean, he was a reality show contestant and is not a celebrity in this future world. They kinda WANT him to appeal to people in that way. Its kinda cheesey, but these kinds of things are often cheesey, right? At least that’s my logic for the photo. I don’t really hate it, Josh actually looks pretty good as Peeta here and his hair doesn’t look weird. I’m okay with it at the moment but I agree that the shoes are weird.

    • Alyssa

Those shoes are definitely helping with the Bieber vibe. They do not belong with a white tux/suit.

      • Spicytomato1

Agreed but the books/films are set in the future. Maybe that is the formal footwear of the future?

Peeta is usually not my cup of tea but I think he looks extra handsome here. Boots and all.

      • gabbilevy

I saw those as an almost-nod to the decision to let Peeta keep both of his legs, rather than have him with a fake one. Because those boots look like snap-on feet.

        • Janet B

Snap-on feet! This gave me a good laugh.

        • peeeta loses a leg?

          • In the first book. It’s because of the sword wound he got in the arena. Once they were Victors they fixed him as best they could but couldn’t save all of his leg and he got a nice prosthetic. Katniss also went deaf in one ear in the arena but the Capitol people were able to fix that.

          • I don’t even remember that, clearly.

    • God, I hate that kid (Bieber). Makes me mad just thinking about him. And it irks me even more that my 13yo nephew is starting to dress like him (this, coming from the “cool aunt” who lets him do just about anything he wants).

      • Annabelle Archer

I do too.  Whatever is after irrationally angry is where I am at where the Beibs is concerned.  We have a strict pull up your fucking pants rule in my house.  My kids know it, their friends know it.  I don’t care what else they want to wear, but I draw the hard line at pants that have to be held up by hand.

      • CozyCat

I don’t really hate him, but I get the feeling that he is headed for an ex mouse club style meltdown.  That or a Michael Jackson type future.  Seriously, there are signs of child star weirdness.

        • Janet B

Talking about that with my husband this morning. He mentioned Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Michael Jackson.

    • What? There was more after Finnick?

      • Kristin McNamara

I was really hoping they’d give Finnick to Hunter Parrish 🙁

  • Effie gets McQueen, Peeta gets Uggs.  Nice.

As for Finnick… I’ll be in my bunk.

    • Vlasta Bubinka

I was thinking MoonBoots, circa 1985.

    • ChiliP

I want to have sexy times with Finnick. He can even keep the skirt he’s wearing.

    • JosephLamour

       Clafin: Unf. Everyone else: Shrug.

      • Agreed. Although seeing this new batch of pics I stand by my previous statement: Stylewise, Stanley Tucci wins everything.

        • Stanley Tucci wins everything ever, period.

        • RebeccaKW

I agree with your statement.  However, I always have found Donald Sutherland so hot and this is doing nothing to change my mind.

          • rumcg66

Whenever I confess my enduring lust for Donald Sutherland people usually look at me like I’m insane. So thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one.

          • RebeccaKW

             And his voice…

          • THIS. I have the same crush on Sean Connery’s voice.

          • RebeccaKW

            ~Fanning myself~

          • sisterb67

In addition to my undying love for one wee Mr. Stanley Tucci, I love me some Donald Sutherland. With the fire of a thousand suns. I would listen to him read the phone book. (And then have some sexy times with him.)

          • RocknRollmom

I had the privilege of observing Mr. Sutherland a few years ago waiting for his bags at LAX.  Even  more delicious in person.  I have had a crush on him for years and years.  And that has not changed one little bit.  And his voice is to die for.

    • AthenaJ

The outfit for Finnick is spot on, but am I the only one who thought he’d be a little older and rugged (in a hot way) looking?

Regardless, I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers.

    • Yeah, this picture of Finnick is MUCH better than some of the screencaps released earlier. The cheekbones on that guy. THE CHEEKBONES.

also, the Firefly reference is forever appreciated.

  • Kathy_Marlow

Now he looks like Finnick..I had concerns previously

  • Emily Rose

That is a really shitty picture of Sam Claflin.

  • siriuslover

I cannot thank you guys enough for posting these posters for Hunger Games! Love Josh Hutcherson!

  • Mrs

It’s like a promo for the Bachelor franchise, what with the roses & all.  I think the moonboots are a clever way of hiding the lifts.

  • Sobaika

That is not how I pictured Finnick. Not a Johnny Depp pirate wannabe. No.

    • Annabelle Archer

Thank you. Nothing about him says raw, intense sexually charged male. Finnick would never wear a blouse.

    • Alyssa

Maybe they’ll manage better with the actual movie costumes? Because Finnick in my head wouldn’t wear anything in his poster, and I really don’t want the movie to ruin him.

    • SassieCassy

ive hated his casting since day 1 and this poster is doing nothing to change my opinion. but what do i know, i was on the jesse-for-finnick bandwagon

      • MilaXX

THIS!. Even Armie Hammer would have been preferable over this guy, but I was firmly on the Jessie Williams bandwagon.

        • SassieCassy

glad i am not the only one. i think the casting for finnick was going to disappoint someone no matter what, but jesse williams came really close.

          • BuffaloBarbara

Wow, I just looked him up.  He definitely looked nothing like I pictured FInnick — Claflin’s much closer to my head-canon.  He was described as “beautiful” more than handsome.

          • SassieCassy

jesse doesnt look beautiful to you? sighhh he is perfect. and the golden bronze skin and the eyes and everything matches the book.

oh well. at least you can be pleased with sam’s casting. he is a really boring choice imho

          • BuffaloBarbara

No, Jesse doesn’t do much for me at all. I’m pleased enough with Sam now that I’ve seen him character, though. The first few pictures, I sort of squinted and thought, “Huh.” I definitely see Finnick as having a boyish beauty that he’s almost, but not quite, aged out of (and almost aging out of his sole use to Snow is dangerous to his health).

        • I like Armie Hammer in this role. I don’t know who this guy is but maybe is will look better in the movie.

          • Eclectic Mayhem

With you on the Armie Hammer as Finnick casting.  Ach well, we’ll see what this young slip of a lad can do…

        • Kristin McNamara

I thought Finnick was supposed to be blonde, wasn’t he? I haven’t followed any of the HG casting mediafire, so I didn’t know JW was in the running, and while I do love me some Jesse, I always pictured Finnick as Hunter Parrish as I was reading.

          • SassieCassy

he never was in the running – it was a fancasting that got huuuuge traction on the internet. finnick odair is described as having bronze hair in the books.

i like hunter parish! weeds right?

          • Kristin McNamara

Yes. Hunter Parrish was the hot, blonde, older son 🙂

      • ChiliP

I admit that Jesse was my first choice for Finnick as well.  He has everything from the golden skin to the mesmerizing eyes. Plus, that bod.

        • Eclectic Mayhem

Blimey – I was unaware of this Jesse Williams chap and firmly on the Armie Hammer train but having just googled Mr Williams I agree he’d have been perfect.

        • SassieCassy

          he is so beautiful

    • Verascity

Yeah, I’m puzzled by the love. I don’t find him attractive or Finnick-like or… anything, really. I nothing him.

Although part of me is still bitter it’s not Jesse Williams.

    • charlotte

No, not at all. In my head he looked like River Phoenix.

    • Right, I didn’t picture him this way either. I’d prefer “Young Brad Pitt”.

And by the way: the only man Katniss would end up with in real life is Haymitch.

  • Kimmu

Sam Claflin makes my vagina want to zip shut, which is pretty much the opposite of what Finnick should be doing. So, serious casting fail.

    •  I disagree, but that was so funny that I just snorted iced tea out my nose.

    • KC

Why do you guys on the internet say stuff like this? Lady wood, ovaries exploding, etc…so weird and a bit gross!! Can’t we talk about someone being attractive without getting vulgar? I’m sorry, I don’t mean to start an argument, maybe I’m just too sensitive. lol

But I personally think Sam Claflin is really really attractive. I pretty much watched “White Heat” (which was ATROCIOUS and dull as all hell) just so I could look at him. He’s so pretty!

      • Kimmu

He does absolutely nothing for me. Like, he shouldn’t have even been in Snow White and the Huntsman. I could barely contain the laughter over the thought of him being considered more attractive than Chris Hemsworth.

As for my comment, are you bothered that it’s a comment from a woman or do you also have issue with men using supposedly vulgar language? Your examples were all things I’ve seen women use on the internet to describe sexual attraction. I type like I speak so I’ve often said that comment aloud in response to someone’s desirability or lack therefore. I’m comfortable with my body and with sex so I don’t really see any reason to not use the slang that I want to.

  • Michelle Cunningham

Claflin is too young to be Finnick…  Love the not so disguised lifts in Peeta’s shoes!

    • ChiliP

Claflin is 26, and I believe Finnick is 24 in Catching Fire, so the age seems appropriate. Admittedly, he looks younger in this picture.

      • Sobaika

I think it’s more because everyone is aged up in the films. Katniss is originally meant to be 16, but now the age difference now in the films between her and Finnick is negligible.

        • BuffaloBarbara

The character isn’t aged up, though.  She’s still supposed to be seventeen — willing suspension of disbelief, since the child labor laws would make it onerous to film otherwise.  I was willing to pretend to believe that Alan Rickman was in his mid-30s for Harry Potter, too.

          • ChiliP

Oh my god, you just blew my mind. Snape IS supposed to be in his 30s…I honestly didn’t think about that until now. This is similar to how I felt when I realized Harry’s parents were about 20 when they had him.

          • Derek_anny

Or how about the fact that Harry is currently late 30s. (I can never remember exact years.)

          • SassieCassy

jlaw looks and comes across as very womanly. there is no way she can be 16 and sam does look very young. they should have gone for late 20s at least, maybe add some facial scruff. idk

          • I agree with this. It is strange that she can jump from playing 16 to playing late 20s in Silver Linings Playbook and then back.

But hollywood basically considers women in 3 categories: children, fuckable, and then old.

          • BuffaloBarbara

She doesn’t necessarily read as sixteen — then again, some sixteen-year-olds don’t.  But the character is still sixteen, no matter what JLaw looks like.

          • zenobar

Alan Rickman is ageless.  Ageless, I tell you.

          • Sobaika

Except that everyone is aged up in the HP movies – Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, etc. don’t play 30 somethings. Jennifer Lawrence does read as a lot older than 16, I agree with Cassie that they should have gone for a bit older with Finnick or at least gotten someone who has a more powerful screen presence.

          • BuffaloBarbara

I pretend to see them all as 30-somethings, though I admit it got difficult.  I insist that they are 30-something, because the characters are 30-something. The casting is just a visual thing. I’m willing to ignore the actor’s actual age in favor of the character’s.

          • turtleemily

             Gary Oldman, too.

          • BuffaloBarbara

Yeah, I was quite annoyed with that choice. It made it very difficult to suspend disbelief. But, with effort, I did it.

And, since James and Lily’s movie headstone had the same birth date and death date as the books (60-81), clearly, the ages hadn’t changed.

        • ChiliP

That’s true. When I read the books, I imagined Finnick to be a mature 24, and Claflin does read kind of young to me. Considering he’s essentially the Capitol mattress, I thought he would exude a rugged sexual energy that transcends his age. Regardless, he’s one of my favorite characters, and I think Claflin is cute, so I’ll reserve further judgement until I see the movie.

  • Someone please explain to me what is going on with Peeta’s turtleneck!

    • Vlasta Bubinka

      Discussed above– boybandified!

  • margaret meyers

Gosh.  Are their clothes designed for the symbolicly disabled?  You know, people who have to be told  very plainly what each character type this part is?

    • Sobaika

      Teengaers – so yes.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Kind of.  But then, it fits in the world, where people from the fishing district wear nets to the parade, and people from the coal district are usually made into sexy miners (until Cinna decides to set them on fire, anyway).

And I think Peeta’s supposed to be in his wedding outfit.  Katniss is behind the chair, so I assume they’ll eventually put them together.

    • MilaXX

Hopefully it will translate in the movie, but yes everyone’s clothes/chair indicate their social status.

    •  Yes, and for people who haven’t seen the first movie or read the books.

    • CozyCat

Well, these are advertising posters, so in a way they are supposed to hit you over the head with the message.

Which is kind of ironic, given that one of the themes in the last two books is the power of advertising and PR…

  • The more concentrated high-fashion approach to The Hunger Games this time around is pretty fantastic.

  • Anyone else disappointed Finnick wasn’t naked and draped in a net?

    • MilaXX

       not this Finnick

  • Lionsgate made a huge mistake not casting Jesse Williams as Finnick, and I will stand by that statement forever.

    • SassieCassy

      GIRL. YES.

    • MilaXX

  • NilBlur

    Finnick Odair?

  • OK, loving the choices that were made in these photos. The tributes make eye contact; the Capital people look into the distance. Haymitch is kind of in the middle. And the chair choices. Haymitch’s is not the stark wooden one of the tributes, but he doesn’t get a fully ornate gilded chair either. Again, in the middle.

    •  I noticed that too. The chairs certainly represent the status of the people sitting in them.

    •  Yes, exactly. It’s all about the symbolism of the districts vs. the Capital. The tributes, except for Haymitch but plus Gale, are the ones holding the white rose, which Snow wears in his lapel. In fact, you could read Katniss’s dress as the white rose as well. And the eye contact of the tributes isn’t easy eye contact. Those aren’t happy expressions being sent out to the people of Panem (and us by extension). The image of Gale is particularly interesting. He’s the one leaning forward, dressed in workman’s clothing, in contrast to the ornate outfits of the others, as though he’s been dragged into the photo shoot, as part of the narrative that’s being spun for Panem. (Can you tell I teach a class around the Hunger Games?)

      • Kristin McNamara

Wow, you do?! That’s awesome! I wanna come!

  • What’s with Peeta’s astronaut shoes/boots?

    • MilaXX

The almost look like white versions of Cinna’s, only Cinna didn’t fasten his up. Perhaps they are the latest Capitol Couture.

  • Monday1900

    Finnick Odair?  Really?

  • BuffaloBarbara

I’m loving this entire publicity stunt.  What a good way to get people talking.  Just look at us!

I wasn’t sold on Claflin until I saw this.  Now, I want MOAR FINNICK.

  • MilaXX

Please let the movie live up to these posters. I’m still not convinced this was the best actor to play Finnick.

  • librarygrrl64

Hutcherson looks like he’s wearing Uggs.

  • Thanks for posting all of these portraits, LOVE how this whole week has gone down.  If anyone cares, the costumer for the movie says Peeta’s suit is Juunj, boots are Rick Owens.  Looking at the other portraits, I think that Finnick’s boots, and maybe Ceasars and Beetee’s are Rick Owens as well.

  • I agree with this. It is strange that she can jump from playing 16 to playing late 20s in Silver Linings Playbook and then back.

But hollywood basically considers women in 3 categories: children, fuckable, and then old.

EDIT: i meant to reply to someone??

  • Diego!

Josh, please be careful when you walk, a fall from those platforms could be deadly. With love, me. 😛

  • Donald Sutherland looks more fucking fabulous than all the others put together.

    • AudreysMom

       (sigh) still no Phil

  • j_anson

Well they’ve… certainly succeeded in making Peeta look douchy. Was that intentional? I haven’t read the books.

  • BuffaloBarbara

Nope.  He’s the only character I’ve seen in fiction portrayed as very sweet habitual lying machine.

  • quiltrx

I don’t know who this Sam is, but he looks like he’ll do.

And Sutherland?  I’ve never thought of you as a fabulous bitch…but today, you ARE.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

I’m disappointed. This is not how I exactly imagined Finnick. The actor is generic, bland-looking blonde.

    • bd73

this poster actually made me start to accept him. i was all for armie hammer in the part. he does look sexy, gorgeous. i can see him being pimped out by president snow.

  • editrixie

Why is that one guy wearing culottes?

  • bd73

love how the tributes are all using that austere electric chair. the seat of doom.

  • What, no comments on how photoshopped Donald Sutherland”s face looks? like a was figurine? (if the camera were lifted a bit who bets there would be some major ‘man parts crease-age’ in those business slacks? That creepy pedo/lobbyist vibe…

  • ha
