Mad Men Set Pictures

Posted on March 06, 2013

Darlings, we are one month away from the Mad Men season six 2-hour premiere on April 7. To set the internet on fire, set pictures are dribbling out. It’s never as fun to look at the men on set as it is the women, but we did kind of burst out laughing at the sight of Harry Crane, in full late ’60s regalia. And check out Roger Sterling’s sideburns!

The Hamm is, of course, The Hamm. It’s weird to look at Don Draper checking out his cell phone.

    Harry!  LOL!

    • Chickadeep

Those sideburns are SPOT ON for ’67/’68, but I agree, they do bring the LOLz. Harry is the second agency dude to steal Peggy’s Power Color.

  • Ana_ragu

Can. Not. Wait. Have cleared my calendar!

  • Man, they just can’t contain him, can they?

    •  The Hammaconda canNOT be contained.  lol  Especially in that second pic.

      • Vlasta Bubinka

Made me think about Baby Got Back… The Hammaconda don’t want none if you ain’t got buns, hun. Look at the slacks!

        • I totally pulled an Elliot Reed when I saw the first picture. “SCHWING SCHWONG!”

Damn that man looks good in grey.

        • fauxhawk

You can do sidebends or situps, but please don’t lose that dong.

        • AthenaJ

Of course I had to see what everyone was referring to… and WOW!!!

      •   Like Miley Cyrus, it can’t be tamed.

        • JosephLamour

LOL. The first and last time Miley Cyrus and Jon Hamm’s genitals have been related to, I’m sure.

          • Adriana_Paula

            God I hope so.

      • Clair Ellis

        Hammaconda. Love it.

      •  Ah hahah Hammaconda. Bahahaha

      • “Hammaconda.” Oh god, I’m dying!

      • Diego!

         hahahaha xD

      • actually in the 1st pic you could actually see the outline of his Hammaconda!!!

    • Vlasta Bubinka

      Pointy tie guides eye
      Metallic framed slickness
      Go commando man!

      • You never ever disappoint, Vlasta.
I wasn’t going to weigh in on the obvious man junk.  But Jeebus on Toast.  But I will take my Hamm, with face fur, please.

        • Vlasta Bubinka

          Nah, I like him smooth.

          • Great, then we can share him without trouble. You get him all during the Mad Men season.  I get him other times.

          • Vlasta Bubinka

sounds like a deal! Now, about that woman of his…

          • I am quite sure we can find someone to help her out.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Whenever I see Hamm with his ladypartner I always think that she’s got that “I get to go home with Jon Hamm and you don’t” smirk on her face. Course, if I got to go home with the Hammaconda I’d probably be smirking, too!

          •  I’ll take both!

          • Vlasta Bubinka

Get in line, we’ve already called dibs.

And I can’t be the only one that thinks a line of toys (wink wink) called the Hammaconda line would be brilliant, am I?

          • As many of the PR judges would say, “I would buy that!”

          • Vlasta Bubinka

And wouldn’t you totally pay to hear Heidi or Nina profess “I would wear that”???

    • call_me_schmeg

the title of this post should be “mad men set pictures — now, with don dong!”

      • Little_Olive

You think we can buzz the concept into an *action* figure? Man, those would be some collectibles.

    • urbanamish

it’s all i saw.  i’ll go back now and look at harry crane.

      • Vlasta Bubinka

Harry Crane! Now with ascot scented flavor crystals!

        • urbanamish

is there any article of clothing more douchey?

          • Vlasta Bubinka

            A lace ascot.

          • An ascot is fine for casual wear, but for business wear- total douche.

          • H2olovngrl

            A dickey.

    • MK03

Jennifer Westfeldt is a very lucky lady. I am so jealous.

    •  Hysterical – both Jon Hamm AND Don Draper like to go commando.

      Sigh. Moan.

  • bxbourgie

YES!  I cannot WAIT for this show to return and for TLo recaps.  Harry looks so 60s awesome

  • ChiliP

Is it blasphemy to say that I’m not that excited for the premiere? I’ll watch, for sure, but for some reason the Mad Men magic is starting to wane for me.

    Love these shots, though.

    • urbanamish

      • ChiliP

I know, I know, I feel a little less cultured admitting that. I don’t know, last season was my least favorite season so far, which is funny because I feel like people either thought it was the best or worst season of the series. Maybe it’s because last season was the first season I watched lived (I Netflixed the others). Or maybe it’s the decision to put so much focus on Megan at the expense of other characters. I didn’t mind her at first, but she really starting to irritate me by the end. At least when Betty irritated me, it was in a “love to hate her” kind of way…I just wanted Megan to go away.

        • decormaven

I believe this is going to be a redemptive season. S5 allowed the full regeneration of Don and Betty – she lost her Pretty Princess facade, and Wandering Don was anchored by his love for Megan. I’m not saying that Betty won’t return to her svelte self- or Don to his romancing ways – but it took S5 to move them from their original plot points. Plus I think we will see SCDP at its strongest ever. I’m extremely excited about that!

        • luciaphile

You’re not alone. Last season was the weakest. I admit I liked it better when I rewatched it binge fashion with the dvds, but I fear it’s the inevitable progression of quality most TV shows face after so many years on the air.

          • Therese Bohn

Oh yeah, I had a love/hate relationship with last season – even wrote about it on Basket of Kisses, but the last three episodes were incredible, and it got me happy again.
            I’m gonna miss Lane though.

          • Inspector_Gidget

It’s still better than 99% of what’s on TV at the moment, but I have to admit I didn’t love a lot of S5.  In particular, Joan’s Indecent Proposal and Lane’s suicide (telegraphed over the course of about 5 episodes) took the show into eye-rolling territory. But I have hope.  Will be there for the premiere.

          • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Didn’t Lane play Gen. Grant in “Lincoln”?

          • formerlyAnon

          • urbanamish

hello basket case. yes, i grieved for lane (and joan for that matter).  yes the final three,   howard johnson’s and zoobey zoo. oh and sally dressed up for the ball,  and lsd trips.. rendered my complaints to quibbles.

        • Melissa Brogan

I’m REALLY over Megan, so I wasn’t in love with last season… hoping this season will be better.

    • I’ll watch too, but I’m with you. Lane’s suicide just took the show to such a dark place that I’m not sure I want to go back… but it’s not Downton Abbey… I mean, at least they didn’t have TWO characters hang themselves.

      • bxbourgie

Between Lane’s death and the constant focus on Megan I too was disappointed with the last season.  My hope is that since the season won NO awards, (did it?  I don’t remember any members of the cast or the show winning any Golden Globes for Season 5) Wiener will return to to the greatness of the previous seasons and focus more on the agency and Don and less on Megan.

    •  I only watched a couple of episodes – just didn’t grab me. I only like it for the pictures and the TLo insights.

    • Little_Olive

I share that feeling. S5 tied the ribbon around the whole thing beautifully, IMO.

I just hope they keep it simple and prove us wrong.

  • I see Mr Hamm’s still eschewing supportive underwear….

  • newleaf1

Now they are really start to look like my dad as I remember him from that era – I love these pics!  Don is looking a little anachronistic compared to the others.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

I think that may be on purpose. Don isn’t a big lover of change.

    • I agree about the anachronistic… but that’s always been an interesting part of his character. In many ways he’s such a product of the early 20th century, in terms of his style, manners, etc., yet he has keen insight for the future as well.

      • I think we might be getting to a point where Don’s insight for the future will fail him.

  • AwesomeMargie

    Um, Don’s pants, um, wow.

    • hmariec19

      Right? JESUS.

  • $11431954

Speaking of weird, Jon Hamm played a talking toilet on Bob’s Burgers and he still managed to be sexy.

  • Sobaika

    • Missy Covington

I don’t think so. I think it’s the illustrator that used to be under Peggy…

      • MK03

        Nope, that’s totally Harry.

        • Missy Covington

Oh I believe you. In the pic where he’s backing the car up he has total Stan-face, though.

  • It’s just stupid for one person to be that handsome.

  • lizlemonglasses

    I can’t un-see his Hammbone.
    Roger’s still alive! Yay.

    • Roger defies all the logic of medical science. And yes, yay!

    • MK03

Roger’s having too much fun dropping acid to be depressed anymore.

      •  I think Roger and Keith Richards share DNA.

  • decormaven

Oooh, goody! Don returns to the West Coast. Wonder if he will run into Joy, Willy and Rocky again? Roger would so lap up that scene! And maybe we could see that fab midcentury modern house again. Thanks for the pics, TLo. This is much better than scones!

  • These look like location pictures. Maybe the gang travels to LA to visit the set of “Hullabaloo”? That was my first thought, looking at Harry, anyway…

  • Carrieanno

What men?  All I see is that red Mustang.

    • lobsterlen

I thought the same exact thing … I really want ’68 convertible red mustang for summer.

    • SignLadyB

Yea, that was what I glommed onto also. And Harry’s driving? Naaaaa, gotta be Roger’s car.
Um, Hamm’s pants yes! But can I be just a little blasphemous and mention that there seems to be a bit of tummy as well?

      • Little_Olive

I was soo afraid to say, so thank you for opening that window! I am hoping and praying that it’s a prosthetic with a plot thread that will eventually go away: I want my Hamm nice and lean, thankyouverymuch.

        • MK03

Y’all are nuts. I see no paunch.

    • editrixie

OMG I just said the same thing. I should have read down first.

  • Dot

HAH! Harry Crane is killing it in that mustard yellow blazer and those sideburns. April 7 can’t get here fast enough!

  • RebeccaKW

3rd pic from bottom, yellow and mint/gray sundress.  WANT.

  • Jon Hamm needs to just put a pair of f*cking underpants on.   Enough already.

    • Blasphemy!!

    • urbanamish

      shut your mouth.

    • I STRONGLY disagree.

      • There are so many nice underpants for men!  I just wish he would try one pair, one time!

        • Little_Olive

As long as he tries them on right on the show :p
After all, they never have a scene of Don shopping/having clothes made.

          • In the otherwise dark episode where Don wakes up next to the waitress Doris, we get to see him in his white boxers. (Funny, a guy I know who’s similarly… built wears the same undies. Must be the standard uniform for… men of a certain size.)

    • alyce1213

I agree.  Seen enough, thanks, too much.  What an ego.

    • No!

    • I hope something bad happens to you.

  • There can never be enough Don Draper in my world.

  • lobsterlen

Once I was through noticing cars, sideburns and Don’s underwear freedom … Is Don getting a little paunchy?

  • anotherkate

    I miss the tighter early-60s suits. 🙁

  • Angela_the_Librarian

Cannot wait for the return of Mad Men. Le Sigh…Jon Hamm. On a side note, I recently moved to the St. Louis area (Jon Hamm’s hometown) and fantasize about bumping into him at a Cardinals game or elsewhere around town. A girl can dream!

    • TRSTL

Welcome to STL!  Trust me, the men you will bump into at a Cards game are NOT Jon Hamm like.   At all.  More “Ham”-like……

  • I see the Hammaconda is alive and well and on display. First three pics and second from the bottom.

  • Cheesely

Where can I get Jon Hamm’s sunglasses??!!

    • alyce1213

  • Clair Ellis

Holy The Hamm is showing all the goodies. Is everyone on set so enameled with him that they all fail to notice his member is prominent in every shot? I mean I love it just as much as the next person, but dayum.

    •  Enameled?

    • Seeing his bits makes me feel all enameled, certainly.

    • H2olovngrl

We think you mean enamored. We are all so enamored with him that we look for “it” in every picture of him ever posted anywhere. Ever. Anywhere. seriously. Everywhere.

      • formerlyAnon

It takes several hobbies and minor interests to create a well-rounded life.

  • So okay then…. he even goes commando while in character? Do they CGI that out? Cause I don’t recall ever seeing Don so… free.

Hamm’s insitence on not wearing underwear seems soooo out of place for the period, I am surprised they don’t make him do at least boxers.  Not complaining here, just observing…..

  • AViewer44

It’s so weird to see this — I was a child then and Don would have looked so SQUARE! Seems a weird characterization in view of his hip young wife. The paunchiness must be intended, not accidental.

  • bxbourgie

WOW @ the Hammaconda in that first pic!

  • Susan Collier

    Thank you!

  • Wendi126

And the winner for best supporting role in a drama goes to the Hammbone!

  • The cell phone actually made perfect sense to me, but maybe I’ve been watching too much of The Thick of It.

  • Judy_J

Jon Hamm was born to wear mid-20th century suits.  At the risk of sounding cliche, he’s dreamy.

  • Janet B

Don’s blue striped tie and Roger’s sideburns, remind me of my dad’s when he was working in SF.
I always wanted a red convertible, we have a similar car parked in our driveway, sadly not a convertible.

  • MilaXX

I know it’s supposed to be Roger Sterling, but all I see is Howard Stark.

  • Therese Bohn

A note on the costuming — Janie is on target again! Roger is keeping to his three piece, but has a deep red paisley tie that he’d never wear in previous seasons; the LSD is starting to affect his everyday outlook, and the sideburns channel Timothy Leary.  (I bet Roger will be the Timothy Leary of the group)  Harry is SO Hollywood, baby, bright yellow jacket that I bet is double-breasted, and neckerchief ala Mod Leonard Nimoy!
Don is, as ever, granite gray, probably still has a hat in the car, but his ties are getting just touch wider. His cream and greige ensemble is a lot softer, with lapels and tie getting a little wider again, this has got to be more of Megan’s influence.  I’m glad he didn’t let his sideburns grow out yet though, but it appears his Brylcreem is a just little less stiff.
    Can’t wait,can’t wait,can’t wait,can’t wait.

  • bertkeeter

    What cell phone? :)))

  • Lilithcat

I really, really want that red Mustang convertible!

    • margaret meyers

My father bought that car second hand in the early 70s.  It was “the kids car” and we 5 teenagers had SO MUCH fun driving it. Seeing it here made me smile… and wonder if that was the same one we sold to a mechanic a long time ago.

      • editrixie

On my walks, I often go past a house that has a ’69 (judging by the color) Mustang body sitting there under piles and piles of wood. Just rotting. It KILLS me. I constantly want to ask them if I could just buy it from them, and find a place to restore it.  It actually enrages me that they would do that.

      • formerlyAnon

FIVE teenagers shared that car? Unless you were all spaced, say 3-4 years apart, at least one of you had to have the chops for international diplomacy to make that work!

        • margaret meyers

Spread out over 6 years — and the oldest didn’t drive that car because she had wrecked so many previous volkswagons.  And my twin sister and I had it to ourselves for TWO years because the older 3 were all off to college.  It pays to be the baby.

  • oldbobbydraper

can’t wait for the show, but i am not looking forward to the endless BOO HOO whining from fans about megan. those people have really killed what used to be a great online fan community.

  • teensmom99

Season premiere is on my birthday.  thank you Matt Weiner for the yummy b-day present.

  • Missy Covington

Mustard yellow jacket guy looks less like Harry Crane and more like the illustrator that used to work under Peggy. Whatshisname…umm… [jaunt to IMDB] Stan? I mean, I trust you since the pics probably came with a “X, Y, and Z on the set of Mad Men caption” but man, look at that jawline.

    • l_c_ann

Heck, I thought the mustard yellow jacket guy was a valet car parker.

    • It IS Harry, but he reminds me of Stan too…. who I secretly find yummy (don’t throw things, please!).

      • H2olovngrl

Fear not. You are not alone. Have you seen Stan when not in costume? He is quite a cutie.

        • The actor is definitely yummy, but I also find myself attracted to Stan the character, for reasons I cannot explain.

          • urbanamish

i do too, and i know it’s twisted.

      • Oh, I’ve had a crush on him since he played Ponyboy on the Outsiders TV series. Which was 20+ years ago. So no, you are not alone. 🙂

        • urbanamish

fascinating.  i never even heard of that series.  was it good?

    • Stan still has the yellow blazer but now sports a full beard. TLo posted some pics a couple months ago. 🙂

  • Can’t. Wait.

  • mhleta

I want the car and the sunglasses. And for some strange reason I’m suddenly craving a hot dog.

  • The Hamm bone is everywhere in these pictures!

  • alyce1213

I’m going to take issue with the sunglasses. I think they’re more in style now as a retro look than they ever were in the day, and I do not believe a man like Don Draper would wear them — he’d wear black frames.  I remember the era quite well, and those frames do not represent him.

    • not_Bridget

      Maybe they’re a present from Megan….

    •  There are several other episodes when Don is in CA where he wears similar glasses – and this episode seems to be taking place in CA.

      • Yeah, I gotta believe Janie Bryant knows what she’s doing. 🙂

    • golden_years

Don’s been wearing those sunglasses since the third season.

  • guest2visits

oh my… pea coats and the original mustard-yellow pleather.  It all goes with Hamm.

    • formerlyAnon

Thank-you for calling out that bag. I remember “goldenrod” and “harvest gold” and a couple of other color names stretched to euphemistically cover that color, but it was and is *mustard yellow* and I disliked it then and now.

      • guest2visits

I think goldenrod and harvest gold correctly represent the color/era. I disliked it ALL then too. Strangely though; there
are some retro looks that have been slightly re-fashioned for today that I am attracted to, even in the original shades.
One I will never stomach however is the avacado or pea-soup green, eesh.

        • Our kitchen (appliances, Formica countertops, and linoleum) when I was growing up were harvest gold.

          • guest2visits

Matching!  That must have been a stylish new house on the block!  We had white Formica with aqua
swirls, embedded with tiny square silver and gold flakes – yes glitter. I don’t recall the floor; but it may have been some type of greenish/grey linoleum.

          • We also had olive green SCULPTED carpet. Not shag, mind. SCULPTED. My room was pepto-bismol pink, and my sister’s was electric blue (she also had a large batik of a unicorn that she made in high school art class).

  • The blonde behind Hamm in picture 12 – vintage Pucci. Janie Bryant, have you been shopping?

    Harry Crane, rock it.

  • wispymiss

    That package is unstoppable.

  • DaveUWSNYC

I wish he would just whip it out already.

    • H2olovngrl

      Next to a ruler?

      • urbanamish

        next to my parted lips.

  • Imasewsure

Dig those shades… luckily we can still buy them!!

  • Harry’s look and convertible mean LA of course. Wonder if he relocated full time?

  • Love me some Dong Draper!  Can’t wait until April.

    • EEKstl

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  Good one!

    • H2olovngrl

I almost choked on my iced tea.

  • warnerave

     “penis envy “… 🙂

  • EEKstl

It’s really just ridiculous how hot Jon Hamm is.  And I’m lovin’ it.

  • librarygrrl64

    Can’t wait!!!!!

  • BeeBeauNYC

    Does he ever wear underwear?

    • Not if I can help it.

    •  Only silk boxers, I’m guessing.

  • Wellworn

That is one fine specimen of manhood.  And the rest of him ain’t bad either.  Um, what was this post about, Mad Men?  I uh forgot.  Did I actually use the word “ain’t”?  Need to regain composure!

  • rumcg66

So… Jon Hamm dresses right, apparently?

  • Harry!

  • editrixie

I barely see the dudes. All I can see is my dream car.

  • PrunellaV

Jon, put that thing away! And I’m not talking about the cell phone.

  • I literally bust out laughing at the picture of Harry Crane looking like a one man live-action episode of Scooby Do.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Harry’s sideburns should have their own zip code.

  • H2olovngrl

I love the girl in the cute little dress in picture 12. Adorable sixties twee.

  • H2olovngrl

Someone needs to post a group of these photos amended with chalk outlines showing the visible Hammbone in these shots. Like a diagram. I would die.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

    Don’s sunglasses. Swoon.

  • jmorino08

The cell phone is not what I was looking at in any of those pictures…

  • formerlyAnon

For some reason (ahem! Mr. Hamm) I have the Born Free song running through my head:

“Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart ”

    etc. But somehow, especially:

“Stay free, where no walls divide you
You’re free as a roaring tide
So there’s no need to hide ”

(Movie came out in 1966. )

  • Caaro3

    The Hamm what am.

  • Gawd amighty. What a nice set of pix to come home from work to. The – ahem – Hammaconda doesn’t seem to be in obvious evidence. Don Draper must not go commando.

  • LittleKarnak

Was commando fashionable in the 60s/70s?

    • margaret meyers

      I know.  🙂

  • Zippypie

Who is looking at the clothes or the car???  Hubba hubba….

  • golden_years

I can’t believe Jon Hamm doesn’t even wear underwear to work.  Have some respect for your co-workers, dude. I think I believe those blind items about him.

Anyway, Roger looks great. Harry looks ridiculous.

  • JauntyJohn

Man, I love me some Hamm and Eggs.

  • Laila

Harry and Roger’s sideburns are awesome, but it’s even better to see that Don hasn’t changed a bit! I feel like I’ve been talking non-stop about Mad Men from the minute I walked into my office at DISH until now. I can’t wait for April to be here, even though that’s when my schedule will change to me working on the weekends. I don’t mind since I have a DISH Hopper at home that lets me stream live TV to my Smartphone and my tablet. I may be stuck in my office on the weekends, but at least I’ll have Mad Men to keep me company every Sunday night.

  • kathrineb

Jon Hamm is sexy. That is all.

  • fursa_saida

Guh, ever since I started reading Lainey I can never not check to see if he’s freeballing.

  • RzYoung

Still not wearing underwear I see, never change Ham!

  • SublimatedRage

Nice to see Hamm still has the franks and beans on full display!

    • LadyGewgaw

The use of the plural for “frank” sent me back to check those photos with a somewhat altered agenda.

  • Adelaidey

Look at Roger Sterling straddling the cultural divide with his purple paisley tie and pocket square.

  • pop_top

    Harry. would.

  • RMB

Ahhhh, I wasn’t checking out his cell phone….
