the shot of don and megan is mesmerizing. these pictures are so much better in color!
I wasn’t the biggest fan of her character, but she and Jon Hamm have off the charts chemistry.
My thoughts exactly. I almost felt the need to fan myself.
Looks like Betty passed the bitchface talent down to Gene…
That is some mayjah primo bitchface on that child. Amazing.
Bitchface! I thought surly, but bitchface is a more apt description. I have to say, I love the picture of Trudy and Pete. Could it be more superficial? I love them!
Totally what I was about to mention. Yesssss. Here’s hoping that the child gets some sassy lines this season.
But how cute is his OUTFIT???
My brother wore one of those. Urk!
I want to go to there. And drink. And then leave before they eat me alive.
I don’t think I’d mind if they ate me alive.
“She’s so good with her stiletto, you don’t really mind the pain.”
That wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Jon Hamm could eat me alive anytime.
…shit, did I say that out loud?
gorgeous! I love the faces on those kids! Bitchface v2.0
And I love that everyone looks so serious but Ginsberg still has those worried eyes. I cannot wait till April 7!!
I love baby Gene.
He will eat your face. The bitter reincarnation of Gene Sr. and Adam Whitman, if reincarnation could work that way.
Am I the only one slightly creeped out by Eugene Draper? That soul-searing stare with the sorrowful downcast expression…I foresee a future psychopath in young Draper (with parents like Don and Betty, one of the offsprings was bound to be truly f up.)!
Definitely not the only one, he looks like something from The Shining.
Is the other boy the right age? He looks younger than my admittedly faulty memory says he should be.
I think he is. I’m not familiar with young children but doesn’t he look like a 10 years-old should? Gene was born in 63 and Bobby in 57 and last season’s events took place between 66-67. If this season takes place in 68-69, he should be around 10-11 and Gene should be around 5-6.
Booby looks 10 -11, but baby Gene looks no older than 4.Sally on the other hand should be in full on teen mode. I bet she really gives Betty a run for the money. Last season she was just warming up.
It is my theory that they’re aging the show with the children.
Wow, Peggy’s dress really pops in that color – you couldn’t tell how fierce it was in B&W! Awesome. Looooove these, cannot wait for the show.
Yes on Peggy’s dress. I was startled to see it in red because for some reason I imagined it as dark green.
So did I!!
OMG people! I have work to do! stop posting these!!!!!!
I love these pictures…
Peggy looks amazing in that rich, deep red, doesn’t she?
I can’t stop looking at her!
It’s her power color!! (cf last season’s mad style posts–goodbye gold-mustard.)
The color is fantastic, but her expression makes it look like she’s going to grab a knife and start stabbing people any second now..
I thought she looked like she was plotting everyone’s demise.
LOVE the last shot of Don and Richard
Stan + Beard = Hot.
Amen! I was wondering if I was the only one. I have been fanning myself all morning!
Zach Galifianakis’ beard is so envious!
I don’t even like Stan, but he is definitely werq’ing that full bear face. Hot!
Christina Hendricks should really try to find something in that color for the red carpet. It looks lovely and contrasts nicely with her red hair.
I was happy to see a Draper family picture because it seems like Bobby and Gene have been afterthoughts during the past few seasons. I think Sally’s character is great, but I think there might be something missing not exploring Don’s relationships with his sons.
Yeah, I hope we get to see some meaningful interaction between Bobby and Don, at least, now that he’s a little older.
I also like that color red on Elizabeth Moss and wish she would adopt it for her red carpet appearances.
Honestly, I imagine the relationship between Don & any son would be either uncomfortable and barely-there or deeply, deeply toxic. I haven’t wanted to see it.
Except that Don refused to spank Bobby when Betty insisted because he didn’t want to beat his son the way his father beat him…
I don’t think he wouldn’t *try* to be a decent parent. I just don’t think he is likely to be successful.
That doesn’t preclude them from having a toxic or barely existent relationship.
I think Megan looks horrid, but period appropriate. She has a whole way to skinny Karen Carpenter vibe. Glad Joan looks amazing!
Stan…in a tux and in color…now we’re talking.
Don & Megan . . . I’ll be in my bunk.
THAT. Wear THAT. All the time. That color, that shape, that hair, THAT.
Can someone convince Christina to hire Jane Bryant as her full-time sylist? Please?
Exactly what I was going to say!
Right? Dear god, she is amazing in that. How do you look at yourself in that, see how freaking delicious you are, and then decide in real life to wear a black sack?
She makes me cry she’s so gorgeous.
She probably likes to be able to breathe in real life, though.
Breathing is overrated!
(With less tassels)
Does anyone else think baby Gene looks an awful lot like Don’s brother, Adam??
Actually, we were just saying how he looks just like Betty’s weasel-y brother.
Hmmm, maybe Don and Betty are secretly related….DUH Duh duhhhhhhh……
Pete’s fuckin’ sideburns. They’re KILLING me.
Little Damien Draper…I mean EUGENE Draper looks stylish in his blue suit.
I think Ginsberg needs to loan Burt his tie for a full on Colonel Sanders….
All I can see is Gene Autry Disco Hour special.
Oh… Stan’s facial hair: The Latest TV character is Ulysses S. Grant!
I still see Brian Wilson.
preeeetty sure that spray tans didn’t exist in 1967. why did they hose jessica pare down with it before sticking her in these photos? she would’ve looked amazing as just her normal self.
Not spray tans, but the real thing. Have you seen the pics of Liz Taylor on yachts, tanned to within an inch of her life? Being tan was chic.
And they had QT, as well. QT was this stuff made by Coppertone that was supposed to tan you without the sun and to enhance your tan if you did get some sun. I remember one girl in my hometown that used it once and it turned her orange!
I only remember the fake tans of the 70s but they were certainly a deep orange and a horrible smell.
if it was a real tan, it wouldn’t look like this (i.e. bad) and i wouldn’t be appalled.
A lot of people used iodine in baby oil, which really cooked the skin and turned it dark. I was always too fair to do much tanning, thank goodness.
I love these. Each pose, each look seems to speak volumes.
Ginsberg’s tie! Lol.
When I saw the B&W photos, I actually envisioned Peggy’s and Joan’s dresses in each other’s colors. If that makes sense.
I love the blue of Joan’s dress – it’s really stunning. But I think the color of Megan’s is kind of bland.
Also, those poor little boys look SO miserable.
I imagined Megan’s dress in yellow, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the blue instead.
Is that Roger’s wax figure?
Is that a new actor again for the middle Draper kid (I have no idea what he’s called)?
Loving Peggy looking appropriately badass. I wish she’d lose the peter pan collar as well tho.
Megan looks pretty terrible… I don’t know if it’s the make up, or maybe she’s losing weight to get acting jobs, but she just looks kind of wasted and gaunt.
Yeah, I can’t tell if it’s the make up, lighting or the actress herself (or a combination of these), but that was my thought too, at least in the first picture.
She looks considerably better in that profile shot with Don.
it’s contouring make up she was styled with (+the dumb spray tan). jessica pare is on the cover of elle canada this month looking ten times better than she does in these.
WHich makes me wonder if there is something in her story arc that is causing her to look that way. Valley of the Dolls as an intentional reference, perhaps. Hope not, I like Meghan.
Joan Muthafuckin Holloway is serving up some serious diva attitude
In the words of my niece…only 22 more sleeps until we get Mad Men!!
Maybe I’m reading too much into these, but it’s interesting how in the first picture, Betty has her back to Megan and Don… and Sally (Bobby and Gene seem more in front of her, though). It’s an interesting take on the dynamics within their blended family.
A question… can any of the fashion experts/historians speak to the significance (if any) to the shawl collar vs. the “regular” one on the men’s tuxes?
Baby Gene is going to murder them all in their sleep.
Jessica Pare is generally stunning – but that hair/makeup/dress all looks just horrid. Did that ever look good on anyone?
No one looked good which is why that era was so much fun to live through!
This. Suddenly she looks like the ‘old model’ and Betty the new.
I’m not convinced anybody looks good with that hair. It’s so aging.
Peggy is PERFECT. When I see the red, it bumps that dress up to just perfect for who she is – not a wife or an ex-wife, not there to charm or to be shown off.
LOVE Joan’s eye makeup. All the reservations I had about that dress in b&w are gone. It’s kind of too much – but too much in a perfectly pitched Joan way.
That is officially the most depressing family photo ever.
I do hope they finally give Bobby Draper #4? some meaningful moments this season.
As for the look on baby Gene’s face, I have a grandson, nearly 4, who never smiles in photos unless you catch him off guard. He is totally normal His older brother, 6, on the other hand, always fake smiles and mugs for the camera. I’m sure some of the comments are meant in fun, but kids don’t always show their true emotions on camera, just like adults don’t.
A few weeks ago, I found out that my co-worker is neighbors with the boys that play baby Gene…um, I guess that would be toddler Gene. Anyhoo – I freaked out because that is only a few degrees away from Jon Hamm!
Wow, those little kids are scary.
Megan is very Bobbie Gentry – love it.
My thoughts too — very Bobbie Gentry/Fancy.
Joan’s dress looks almost Victorian to me.
Peggy is about to eat your face.
Can’t stop giggling…full on late night laughing fit…
Somehow these are…scarier?
In those first few photos, ending with Joan in blue, they all look like serial killers. Even the kids.
Off fashion question: Did we ever learn if Betty’s youngest belongs to Don or is he the product of that bathroom fling?
The timing could only be Don, as it was counted down on many a thread.
Thanks. I don’t frequent the threads…thought for sure it would have been mentioned/referenced if only in a Betty dream sequence or flashback.
She had the barroom fling after learning she was pregnant. Gene was the result of Betty’s angry-sex with Don on the floor of her childhood bedroom.
Isn’t it funny what you see with the mind’s eye. I “saw” Peggy in emerald green–love, love the scarlet. Sally was “wearing” pink or a softer peach in my mind. Knew from other posters that Joan’s dress was royal blue but didn’t picture it as that rich. The other dresses are okay but these three are stand outs! Megan’s is probably the least noteworthy for me.
I think one of my brothers had that exact same little blue suit. So cute!!!
It’s like “The Wild Wild West”!
Joan’s dress makes a lot more sense in blue!
So I’m gathering this will not be a cheery season.
LOVE LOVE LOVE These photos.
Odd that I thought Peggy’s dress was blue or green in the black & whites while I thought Joan was wearing a red.
Additionally, isn’t that a new Bobby?
Megan and Don have zero chemistry. I never really liked her, but I hope her acting career does take off just so she goes away.
Those gowns are lovely! I love Ginsburg’s tie–in a Ginsburg kind of way! Very ’60s. My dad had one of those as well as those string ties (I have no idea what you call them, but it’s basically a shoelace with a big rock that you move up and town to “tie”)
Baby Gene looks like one of the Ghastlycrumb Tinies.
Everybody looks so serious, except for Trixie. Even poor baby Gene looks like he sucked on a lemon just before the shoot.
And Trudy has discovered valium!
Being married to Pete, Trudy needs and deserves valium.
With Pete getting to stay in the city at his new apartment this season, she’s definitely going to be leaning on Mother’s Little Helper.
There is a suit in the black-and-white photos that Joan wears that looks amazing on her body – http://www.imdb.com/media/rm226271232/rg1778489856 –
If only Christina Hendricks would take some lessons from how Jane Bryant works with her body while bringing it into a modern sensibility. I love her no matte what, though…
Betty is looking younger than Megan in these pics.
I can’t get enough of Meghan’s Sharon Tate realness. I love the extensions, the dress, the vacant face, all of it.
Christina Motherfucking Hendricks is giving BODY in that dress!
Megan looks very “Valley of the Dolls”
As if Stan couldnt get any hotter, he puts on a tux and grows a beard…yumm
Pete and Trudy…lol!
I don’t know, I’m getting some Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke vibes with Christina’s dress.
So nice to see Betty with her mojo back, very very interested to see how this will change the dynamic between the ‘child bride’ and the old model who looks just as young and glamorous now.
These are even better in color, I love everything about them.
WOW! Loved the b&w versions, but these are wonderful!
LOVE the color of Peggy’s dress – much better than the B&W – also Cigars for the men? Where are they signature Lucky’s?
That dress is totes the business.
Ok…so no one ever smiled in the 60’s?
That image of Don and Megan in the ‘shadow’ is really well done.
Also, it took me several glances to notice that nude section of Joan’s dress. She really looks stunning.
Also loving the lady extra with the BIG hair!
I bet her name is “Mrs. Wellonmellon”.
LOVE that Joan’s costume harkens to Cleopatra! Remember Pete’s sales pitch that ultimately led to her partnership?
I may or may not be doing an excited dance in my chair–Oh, 60s fashions! Never leave or forsake me!
I’m realizing that at this point I don’t really care much about Don and his ~struggles~ and am totally watching for the side characters–Ginsburg (my favorite to be introduced since the original first season cast), Peggy, Sally, Joan, and, yes, Megan. Maybe Trudy, depending on what they do with her this season. Roger I love for entertainment value, not really character arc, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Not saying this means the show’s bad now or anything, just that if this season focuses too tightly on Don’s manpain I may get annoyed.
Looks like you guys were bang-on about Joan going the Liz Taylor route.
