Katie Holmes in Dolce&Gabbana

Posted on March 15, 2013

We’ll give Katie an “Attagirl” for the following look:

Katie Holmes attends The New York Observer 25th Anniversary Party in New York City in a Dolce&Gabbana dress.

Dolce&Gabbana Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Irina Nikolaeva

It’s not bowling us over with its head-turning style, but it’s pretty and classic, if unadventurous. We don’t love the shoes, but we appreciate her wise decision to forego belly skin.

But man, Helen Mirren must be PISSED right now that she didn’t get to this dress first. All that lacy widow’s weed stuff and you leave THIS one on the rack, Queen Helen? Tsk. We would have even been okay with your ever-present opaque black tights paired with this.

We suppose that might not speak too well to the half-Helen’s-age current wearer of the dress but we think it’s pretty all-purpose and can be worn by just about anyone with the right shape for it.

  • Her make up is perfection, and I’d cut a bitch for that silky, shiny hair. I’m not in love with the dress, I wonder what the right pair of shoes with it would do for my feelings.

    • Sobaika

      Her makeup is FLAWLESS.

      • charlotte

Which is quite surprising, given that Katie Holmes is usually not the queen of makeup efforts.

        • E. D.

Maybe that Bobbi Brown deal is working out!

          • MilaXX

When I heard of the pairing, I thought it was a perfect match. She really does embody the Bobbi Brown woman.

  • TLJezebel

    Stand up straight.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

Yes, almost every time I see her I feel myself channeling my mother … “Stand up straight” .. with an accompanying smack between the should blades. You are not married to a dwarf anymore, Katie. You can stand up tall and proud like a big girl!

  • VioletFem

Love this look! I actually, think she was wise to avoid the black tights. Tights could have easily made this whole ensemble look matronly.

  • VeryClaire

I don’t think this looks like Widow’s Weeds at all. This is miles better than black lace – very much updated and modern.
    It suits her.

    • Maybe she wishes she was a widow.

Oops, did I type that out loud?

  • Sobaika

This is the best she’s looked post-Cruise. I wish her head wasn’t cocked.

  • It’s good. It’s really good. But her head is about 5 degrees off Zooey whimsy and she needs to stop that shit now.

  • oatmealpie

Her toes and shoulders are pointing in different directions, so she looks like a broken Barbie to me.

  • Stop doing that with your head, Katie. You’re not Zooey Deschanel. Or 6.

  • Lamoll

I use that material as bird netting for my fruit trees.

    • Imasewsure

So if you happen to get tangled up in it, you will be a fashionista!

    • ballerinawithagun

      Looks really scratchy doesn’t it???

  • conniemd

When i read the title I thought “katie Holmes” in Dolce&Gabbana” was an oxymoron. She made it work, better than I thought.

  • Anniebet

She looks lovely with her fresh makeup and her Helen Mirren dress. She looks well presented, which is not always the case. But those shoes…are they peep toes with black toenail polish? The big toe and second toe are so far apart it looks rather bizarre.

  • snarkykitten

you don’t need to cock your head down anymore. Tom ain’t there

  • lamamu

Oh, Katie, you’re a tall girl. No need to slouch your lovely shoulders in apology.

  • Imasewsure

Dress is ok on her… hair is not… others have already addressed the weird awkward posing (“I’m a serious actress, that’s why I can’t pose”). Improving

  • AmeliaEve

With the slip, it actually comes off as ladylike without veering into matronly. The shape is lovely.

  • MilaXX

It may be very conservative, but I feel like this is who she is at heart. Hair and makeup look really good.

  • BrooklynBomber

Ooh, I think this would not look good on Helen Mirren. Yes, the black sort-of-lace is her style, but I don’t think the silhouette would flatter and is a bit too girly, with a cute factor, for Woman-with-a-capital-W Helen.

  • jilly_d

Serving up Kate Middleton realness with an edge.

  • julesj

It’s nice to see her hair extensions aren’t a total mess.

  • Dress is fantastic on the model, looks pretty good on Katie but the hair. The hair. It’s weighing her down. Also way too girly for this dress.

  • kathrineb

Mega cute and divine shoes 🙂

  • bertkeeter

Love the dress…LBD classic / sleek…The hair is a mess!

  • Coco Cornejo

messy hair and match-matchy. over all, meh.

  • unbornfawn

It is an improvement. She still has miles to go.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I like this look on her! I think she could have done the tiniest bit more makeup, but she looks good.

  • Nancy Karpen

A little bit of bling would have been a nice addition to this.

  • CPK1

she looks lovely although I wish she would stop smirking. I am not feeling the shoes. But I can live with them

  • Monkey Toe

It looks like it was sewn out the material from which onion bags are made.

  • not loving the extra straps…. those combined with the dark seam look just look messy, a strapless lining would’ve worked better i think…..

  • GOod face.

  • Molly

She looks great, her skin looks fantastic, but it makes me physically uncomfortable to see her slouch like that. Breathe, girl! Stand tall!

  • Crystal

Thank God she lined that skirt.

  • kikisayshi

Love it. Hope she doesn’t fall over in those shoes!

  • RuthGo

Why can’t she have decent hair anymore? I know it was while she was with Tom but I miss the bob. So chic. This mop is just a mess, although it does look health. I’ll give her “healthy”.

    • looks like the hair extension fairies went berzerk, not good 🙁

  • judybrowni

Stand up straight and quit smirking like a 13 year-old girl!

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Her TOES! I cannot get with black toenail polish peeping out of peep toed shoes. They truly look as if they are looking at me. ARGH.

  • Thank you for the black slip, Katie. Timeless looks like this are also ageless, I think.

  • siriuslover

She looks pretty, her makeup is nice, but her posture is killing me. I want to reach my hand into that first picture and straighten her shoulders.

  • mhlmh

I really like the sly smile on her face.

  • TheLaurenJean

Is it just me, or does she really look like Kate Middleton in these pictures?

  • This is the best that Katie’s looked in a really long time. Attagirl.

  • Jen

Cute. But I itch just looking at her….

  • peachy

yuk. hate the shoes. hate the belt. glad it’s lined. *snap snap snap* Katie! Katie! Look up here! *snap*

  • libraangel

I don’t want to like this, but I must – say that I like this – and EEK! her in it. SOOOO glad she covered her tummy ( don’t like the runway granny-panties – I am so over this trend – it is ugly!
