Jessica Chastain in Givenchy

Posted on March 04, 2013

Miss Jessica looks relaxed and relieved to have all that awards season poledancing far behind her.

Jessica Chastain attends the Givenchy Fall 2013 show during Paris Fashion Week.

Givenchy Pre-Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Ashleigh Good

And while we think her sassypants are fabulous – and her whole look is all-around chic and Paris fashion show-appropriate – we’re afraid we can’t get behind her deep center part and ghostly-pale face. What we’re trying to say here is, we love your outfit, but Girl, That is Not Your Head.

Long, straight hair is just not right for her.

    • kschwarting

      Liked times ten.

I could get behind the pants weirdness if her fabulous hair wasn’t stick-straight.

  • Severe hair and makeup never work for her. Someone should tell her that.

And actually, I HATE the sheer panels on the pants.

    • Hate.  Hate.  So weird and making me totally squicked out.  Granny panties? Are those POCKETS showing? So much weird 90s ephemera in those pants.

    • SugarSnap108

I am so with you on both counts.  The makeup is harsh and looks straight out of 1986 (that’s how my mom rocked it in ’86, anyway).  I was turned off by the first pic because I thought she had a scarf wrapped around her hips.  When I saw what was really happening with those pants, I was wishing she had a scarf wrapped around her hips.

    • NC_Meg

I don’t even know what is going on with the pants. They’re a serious optical illusion for me.

  • I don’t get the white part going on on the trousers…

  • MrsKrause

Are those mesh cut outs in the thighs of her pants?  Because. . . no.

  • DTLAFamilies

She looks like a tablecloth got caught in her trousers.

  • Kristin McNamara

Oof. I do NOT like those pants. At first glance I thought she had chaps on over normal black pants.

    • 3boysful

Really–what ARE those things?  I hate the pants so much, I’d take the straight hair.

    •  They’re so bad. I looked at the pictures and my eyes burned.

  • I just realized that gold stuff is sheer. that’s gonna be a no, Jessica.

  • I don’t mind the hair so much, but I do wish she had introduced a colored blouse into the mix here. And like the other BKs. Sheer panels on the trousers? No no no! A thousand times no.

    • TRSTL

OMG!  I didn’t realize those panels were sheer?!?!  Twice as awful now…..

      • There is a huge difference between the detail that adds interest to a garment, and the detail that screams “Look at me!”  That difference being, taste.

        • Beardslee

           VERY well said!!

        • kimmeister

They also say, “My thighs need ventilation!”  Not a cute message.

    • Sobaika

Sheer panels are bad enough, but are those short shorts underneath? Whoever gave her this should be demoted.

      • Oh at very least!

      • Nelliebelle1197

The more I look at those pants, the less I understand exactly what the hell they are.

      • judybrowni

        Or shot.

        Blindfold, cigarette, bam.

      • another_laura

        tighty whities?

    • Vlasta Bubinka

Is that ombre hair? And the pants– the details make a crotch arrow… let’s give her a… HAIKU!
      Fancy lady pants
      Stitch work points to bagina
      Faded hair on tits

      • My dear Vlasta, you REALLY need to collect these and publish, with pics next to each one.

        • Vlasta Bubinka

          aww, thanks

  • DiverK

Agree with the hair and make up assessment, but disagree about the pants.  They are not sassy, they are confused and manage to really detract from everything – her figure, statement, the outfit, well, just everything.  Those are not anyone’s pants.  They didn’t even look good on the model.

  • appliquer

I guess it is opposite day, because I love the hair and makeup, and really don’t like the pants!

  • Girl, that is not your Head. You have made my Monday Uncles.

  • Sassypants, indeed.  Also, horrendopants.  This peek-a-boo trend has just officially been pushed too far.  Is she wearing darker extensions on her hair?  I don’t remember it being that long.  All in all I can’t react positively to this look.  I may need more coffee, but I don’t think so.

    • zenobar

“Peek-a-boo” indeed – the thigh-high effect from those sheer panels give me the impression she’s literally pole-dancing.  Sheer panels in one’s pants can only be rocked by Prince at the 1991 VMAs.

      • decormaven

Next thing, they’ll be bringing back Howard Stern’s ass pants. I don’t need a repeat of those, personally.

  • I don’t think the hair is that bad and I like the ombre effect she has going on but I hate those pants with the heat of a thousand suns. It looks like she has a shawl wrapped around her hips and than there’s some mysterious white panel that resembles pocket lining on top of what looks like shorts. That outfit must be burned!

    •  See, I. JUST. CAN’T. with the ombre hair.

  • Sobaika

Wow. She has a real chameleon-like quality, she looks startling different every time I see her.

    • You belong in the diplomatic corps for that comment.  How wonderfully noncommittal while still sounding positive.

    • SassieCassy

way to look on the up side

i guess that is what makes her a good actress

  • Sassy pants? No! Trousers should not have peekaboo panels! And I don’t think this is her best hair.

  • CPK1

    i hate her hair. WTF?

  • LeSourire

The “ghostly pale” face is just her normal skin tone. It looks like there is some heavy flash or lighting going on in the photos, effectively washing her out. The pants though… I can’t even. They’re hideous.

    • Exactly. Her skin is gorgeous. “Ghostly pale” skin is infinitely better than the Oompa Loompa drag most starlets favor.

  • I can’t with the Avril Lavigne hair. Not the best look for her.

Yeah…. “sassy” was not the word I had in  mind about those pants.  “Fugly” was more like it.  I really don’t like the placement of that weird printed detail across the thighs and what’s the white/gray stuff almost peeking out above?  All just unsightly to me.  And I am not a fan of the “Growing out my old color but too cheap/lazy/whateves to get it cut” ombre hair.  But her beautiful face does look happy & relaxed…….. That’s something, isn’t it?  🙂

  • I like her hair.

  • I’m sure she’s glad to be done with the Heiress too.  I quite like the hair, actually.

  • formerlyAnon

“Girl, That is Not Your Head”

Significantly improved my day so far. Thank-you. I suggest this become a permanent category.

(Though I’m still crabby enough not to care what she – or anyone else who falls short of fabulous – is wearing.)

  • SewingSiren

She looks nice. The extensions are a cute look, but I hope it is temporary.

  • lalahartma

I like her face and hair.  I think she looks great!

    • makeityourself

Me too.  I like the whole head.  Such a beautiful woman.  Meanwhile, I’ve lost track . . . don’t know who is designing Givenchy these days, but those pants are stupid.

      • lalahartma

Right, the clothes look bad, but the face good. 🙂

  • Janet B

I’m feeling contrary this morning. I like her hair and makeup. I don’t like her outfit at all, but I’d like to see more of the pants out of curiosity.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Sassypants??… about hiddypants, fuglypants, goofypants, makesyoulooklikeyouhavebigthighswhenyoudontpants, i thinkicanseeyourunderpants….i could go on but i need coffee…

  • Cathy S

Those pants are terrible. Not sassy. At least, not in a good way.

  • Paltrow extensions are not for her.

  • phrenk

I can’t believe someone made those pants on purpose.

  • carolie_king

Is there a white shirt tucked in under the sheer panels?  Or is that the inside of a pocket?  I think I wouldn’t be nearly as distracted by the panels if they weren’t so close to the color of her hair, which makes me look back and forth between the two.

  • snevhead

No. Those pants have been sent to test us. They’re revolting.

  • I LOVE her face and hair here – nice change from the mermaid hair she rocked all during awards season.

  • BobStPaul

Loathe those pants.  I actually like her hair.

  • BrooklynBomber

    Extensions? Or simply flat iron?

    • MilaXX

Looks like extensions to me as well.

  • l_c_ann

Mary (from Peter, Paul, and ____) wants her boring 60’s hair back.

In agreement with the other bitter kittens, the pants do not please.  They’re silly.  They detract from the lovely tailored jacket.  Well, at least the jacket has a shelf life longer than one wearing.

  • lehen

really?  I’m loving her hair here, but maybe that’s just a curly-girl’s straight hair envy.

  • poggi

For a moment I thought she stood up with a very large and intricate napkin on her lap.  I am not sure that I like it better now that I know what it is.  I also don’t like the extra long, middle-part hair on her.

  • Those are some fierce pants.  Her gays should have told her to NOT cross her legs like that in them.  Ruins the look!

  • MilaXX

That most definitely is not her head. The center part is friend to very few. If she was going to imitate the runway look, I think I would have preferred the pulled back pony the model is wearing.

  • Victoria Sharoyan

Agreed on the hair. This whole thing is giving me an odd flash of Piper Perabo in Coyote Ugly.

    • I’m completely getting Anna Torv in Fringe from the hair.
I’m a Givenchy fan but those pants are for editorial not for on the street wearing.

      • kimmeister

I was totally thinking Olivia Dunham as well!

  • SugarSnap108

I’ve got to disagree on this one.  Not sure why you’re criticizing the girl for bearing her natural skin tone (a fake tan would be better?) … But praising her for choosing pants with *sheer paneling* and I-don’t-even-know-what in the crotchal zone.  Those pants ain’t sassy.

  • nannypoo

Her face looks fine. It’s the outfit that’s the problem. You really can’t see what the pattern is about, and there’s that white area that might be a shirt or underwear. There’s also some kind of sheer gold thing and a greyish feature at the crotch. This outfit needs to displayed in separate  parts to make any sense. I don’t mind the hair. She looks different every time you see her, so I’m sure it’s temporary.

  • Rachel Eldridge

The hair makes her look like a young Madeline Stowe.  Perhaps she can do a campy cameo on Revenge as Victoria’s sister.

  • GorgeousThings

For some reason I flashed on Idina Menzel while looking at the closeup. Definitely not her hair/makeup!

  • I totally disagree on the head.  When I saw the pics, I thought this was the best she had looked in ages. Relaxed, confident and chic!

  • Carly Warnock

I hate this look. The jacket just compounds the awkwardness. The middle part is okay, makeup is not flattering for her I think.

  • mmc2315

The design of the pants draw my eyes to her crotch.  No likey.

  • Alyssa

That hair & makeup is not highlighting her natural beauty…and I don’t like the pants really. I love a pair of sassypants, but not these ones. Apparently I woke up grumpy this lovely (sarcasm) Monday morning.

  • ojosazules

That hair is c-list starlet hair. The beige blob thing looks like it’s melting out from under her jacket. I hate all of it.

  • I like straight, shiny hair… and I think she could have rocked this with a dirty smoky eye and a glossy nude lip. She loves those berry lipsticks for some reason. Leans too cool for her skin, in my opinion.

  • Mexxoo

    Look-at-my-crotch pants.  huh

  • Sadie-Ann

She looks like the actress from Fringe with the straight hair.

  • Corsetmaker

I dislike the trousers a lot. I’m bored with ultra straightened hair, but it’s interesting to see a change on her.

Make-up is fine… she is pale Throat, neck all match the face. The lighting, the hair and the fact she’s wearing black just emphasise it. I hate when paleness is described as a negative. Clothing aside I think she looks younger than she normally does.

  • Indigo54

I love the outfit.   Glad she wore heels and not those ugly brogans the model’s wearing.

  • Au contraire.  Love the hair.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I like her hair and makeup far better than I like those pants.  They make my eye twitch (never a good sign).

  • librarygrrl64

    Hate. Those. Pants.

  • Aurumgirl

I think the unspeakable has happened–and Stella McCartney is now influencing real designers.  So those pants (actually, you can see Stella in the whole outfit) are the result.

As for Jessica, she looks like she’s dressed up to be a character in another movie.

  • Annabelle Archer

Funky Chastain looks fun to be around.

  • No to the pants as worn here, looks too much like a skirt over pants for my tastes.

  • mommyca

oh wow! how off am I that I thought she looked fabulous with that hair? 🙁

    • mhleta

You’re not off. I think the center part is fine, though the extensions look a bit like dried out doll hair to my eye.

  • Trisha26

Can’t get on board with the pants/outfit and I hope those are extensions…not a good look.

  • Imasewsure

I don’t like the pants either but I gotta agree that she looks Paris Chic and coolly elegant. Don’t love that super straight hair with the center part on anyone except Morticia but I can live with it (and those weird pants)

  • At first I thought the gold-ish design on her pants was a very long shawl and I wrinkled my nose.

  • LambeeBaby

Weird combo of boxer – briefs- pashmina-ladypants. I think she looks good from the neck up.

  • Monabel

Those pants make me want to run away.

  • ConnieBV

Those pants are atrocious. The hair is fine but not flattering to her square jaw, and the makeup is for a blonde, and a young one at that. NO.

  • ankali

Those pants are terrible — looks like she got up from a fancy table with a dinner napkin spilling out of her crotch.

  • mhleta

I’m so confused by the pants, I’m not even sure what I’m looking at.

  • asmith

    Hate the pants.
Love the hair and makeup.  Vast improvement.

  • guest2visits

No! Really? the only thing I like here IS the hair and face. It’s different from her usual, but it’s nice too.
I wish I could like the suit but the jacket is shapeless and slouchy, and the print on the pant is misplaced ( it just looks like something
slid down her legs instead of chic).  And the 3 blacks; pants shirt, & jacket look overloaded. It doesn’t look sleek, it looks fussy.

  • Anniebet

Might the recent red carpet fashion overload have upset TLo’s usually spot-on ability to spot a fashion faux pas? Those pants are freakishly horrendous.

  • Zippypie

Those pants look like she’s had a horrific accident.

The hair and face look relaxed and lovely, actually.

  • sweatpantalternative

Those pants are really unflattering, on both her and the model.

  • The outfit probably looked a lot better in daylight/her hotel.

  • Jecca2244

    does not look like her.

  • FridaStaire

    That outfit needs Tilda!

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Who sewed napkins to the tops of her legs?  Horrible.  Distracting and horrible.  And silly.

  • shelley514

I see her hairstylist has been visiting ethnic blogs for hair tips, thus the ombre hair.

  • Thathoodwink

It looks like she’s wearing a suit with her grandma’s panties, girdle, table runner and placemat all falling out from her crotchal area.

  • libraangel

Hair extensions – no. And what’s that stuff hanging over the ugly pants? It looks like underwear  – like a granny slip – spilling out

  • EEKstl

See, now I find the pants HIDDY and the hair pretty.  That’s what makes horse races…

  • kathrineb

Hair does not suit her, hate the pants :S sorry.
