Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

Posted on March 22, 2013

Oh, Miss Helena.

Helena Bonham Carter attends ‘A Night Of Funk & Soul 2013’ for Save The Children UK in London in a Vivienne Westwood dress paired with a Lulu Guinness clutch.

LuLu Guinness Lipstick Red Snakeskin X-Large Lips Clutch

We love you, you crazy broad. We don’t know what that jukebox is playing, but we suspect only you can hear it. Although, granted; it may be time to buy a new dress.

  • Good lord, I love this woman. I would have changed the shoes, but otherwise, she looks like a perfect version of her bashit crazy self.

    • I disagree. I adore her, her energy, her style and I totally agree that she plays by her own rules. I feel like this time she did not do justice to her usual fabulous self. Obviously, this cheese stands alone, I’ve received my first TLO Down Votes, but I can take it.

  • gabbilevy

Nah. This is so her. And that Lulu Guinness bag was made for her. It’s easy to say the sunglasses and shoes don’t go but… its HBC. She writes her own fashion rules.

    • I almost wrote the same thing… the rules don’t apply to her.

  • Westwood doesn’t always do right by HBC but I think this is perfect.

  • Titscrepancy, gawd awful shoes, frizz bomb hair and tacky ass lip liner. Oh honey, if you’re not going to share those drugs, you should just stay home.

  • crash1212

LOVE. All of it. LOVE HER! Want the dress…although I could never do it justice.

  • nannypoo

She looks adorable. Does it seem odd that my only criticism of this outfit is that she needs hosiery?

  • Louise Bryan

HBC is the personification of individual style, even more than Lady Gaga who seems hidden by her clothes a lot.

  • GorgeousThings

OMG, she’s like, “Drunk Aunt” – I love it!

    • another_laura

As the quintessential “Drunk Aunt” I agree!

  • SRQkitten

LUV her! She follows the music in her head and her own fashion muse and y’know, I think that’s delightful!

Not, mind you, that I’d ever be able to get away with this or that it would work for the other 99.9987 percent of the female population but that’s perhaps as it should be,

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She gets an “in” because she looks like herself. And I would like that dress. But I like everything grey.

    • VicD

      Love her, love the dress.

  • This made my Friday……

  • MsOlympia

She’s her own person. Can’t hate on that.

  • Ozski

You have to admire her whimsy. Who else besides Dame Edna could get away with those shades? The only changes I’d like to see is a different color in the dress, like burgundy or a red shade and ditch those abominable shoes. Even mismatched pumps would be an improvement here.

  • gsk241

She’s HBC, and this is how she rolls. I love it!

  • Ediths_Head

Love the hair so much, I can’t judge. The clutch too, actually.

    Never change, Lucy Honeychurch!

  • notterriblybitter

I love her to pieces and have a hard time saying anything bad about her so I’m just going to overlook the lipliner.

    • mhleta

I can’t look at this sort of lip liner without thinking of Tammy Faye Baker.

  • Anz

As with Miss Sevigny, now and forever and beyond, I will always love HBC. If I could just bite her and become part of her, sacrificing myself like a male Angler fish, I would do it in a heartbeat.

  • procrastinatrice

HBC-WERQ! It is a new category, bitches. It happens when HBC pulls off things only she can wear, and tells us to suck it.

  • Apocalipstick Now Redux

If HBC started dressing like say….Nicole Kidman or Naomi Watts, she’d look ridiculous. I just can’t see her with a pin straight center part and a sleeveless tailored sheath. The thing about HBC is she always looks exactly like she wants to look. She never looks like she hates what she’s wearing, that she’s afraid to sit down, or that she’s uncomfortable. The standard fashion rules just don’t apply to someone so very comfortable in her own skin, and dress.

    • formerlyAnon

Also, she’s too little and too buxom to stand out in run-of-the-mill actress wear. She’d be perpetually fighting to make things designed for taller, lankier people work. What she does is exaggerated, but I think it’s a genius solution.

  • NDC_IPCentral

Crazy Aunt territory, Ms. Bonham Carter. And as I’m a spinster Aunty to two wonderful nephews and a genuinely beautiful and dear niece, I can do the crazy, and have. I won’t do lip liner, though.

    • urbanamish

i love her and embrace everything HBC, but i too would prefer the lip liner gone.

  • Love her… but she could totally benefit from a bra fitting! 🙂

  • Girl_With_a_Pearl

I’d say the sunglasses don’t exactly go with this outfit, but who cares. She’d be a blast to hang out with.

  • If only she had worn black pumps and not those boots, it would have been perfect. The shoes are my only complaint with this outfit. And I love her hair.

  • I’m going to need those wacky sunglasses.

  • mjude

  • lamamu

My first instinct is to insist she ditch the boots and pretty up the look, but this is just SO HBC that I must take a deep breath and appreciate.

  • MoreShoes

No. Just say no. She has become a caricature of herself. You expect her to wear this kind of things. I like that she has an individual style but every time I see her, I think: of course.

  • Tee hee! :]

  • Love her. That’s all.

  • Zippypie

AHAHAHAHAH! I love this crazy wench!!!

  • BaddestMotherEver

I love her. In these shots, she looks like Salma Hayek’s crazy aunt that you hope to get seated next to.

    • AudreysMom

I had time to check out one TLo post just now. In a sea of pretty faces and pretty clothes, I immediately went to HBC because I wanted fun and someone truly original

  • PastryGoddess

    Oh my babyheads.

    HBC please never change

  • mary McCall

It’s HBC attending ” A Night of Funk and Soul” ( possibly with her partner Tim Burton? )… Well, given those parameters, this seems like exactly the right look! Good for her!

    • conniemd

That was my thought on the accessorizing. The dress is pretty tame. The hair, boots and shows go with the funk and soul.

  • marilyn

This is her kind of party. I don’t like the shoes though. Believe it or not, she seems kind of toned down. So, I can’t say the short boots work.

  • Joan Roseman

    and shave your legs!

  • MilaXX

Love ya HBC, but blend that lip liner in!

  • ThaliaMenninger

The jukebox is playing I’ve Got a Brand New Pair of Rollerskates.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

The Carmen Miranda sunglasses are fab. As is Ms. Bonham Carter.

  • mhleta

I’ll have what she’s having. Any time.

  • Gawd I love this woman, i too would bitch about the shades and shoes. . .if it was anyone else, somehow she pulls it off, and then some. Love her.

  • …or try a new designer. Not that Westwood doesn’t look fab on her!

  • maggiemaybe

This may be my favorite HBC look so far. She’s my hero…

  • ConnieBV

I love her, but I have to call foul on everything south of the knees.

  • Imasewsure

Yes a bit small but pure HBC! Love it

  • I remember the biography I watched about her years ago and the pictures they showed of her at home as a young girl in huge clothes, trying to hide herself. It said she was very embarrassed about how pretty she was and was always trying to hide it so I’m all for the above.

  • random_poster

    HBC makes me smile. Huzzah!!

  • mmc2315

She crazy. And I love it.

  • <3

  • Why do I feel like that jukebox is playing Donna Summer?

    • Fordzo

I was thinking Pat Benatar. We are young!! (shoulder shimmy, shoulder shimmy)

  • LOVE

  • I love it- she really has her own look and I love her hair being out and curly!

  • MoHub

I need to know who’s responsible for the shades. I need them.

  • SapphoPoet

    Love her.

  • another_laura

It’s a Night of Funk and Soul. What better than this?

  • formerlyAnon

I think (might just be as viewed on my screen) the skin on her legs is mottled enough to warrant stockings, despite the booties. Otherwise, blend in that lip liner & she can lead my conga line anywhere!

    • Fordzo

I was wondering if she needed to shave her legs.

  • Qitkat

Drunk, delusional, and on an acid trip. In other words, normal.
I prefer Chloe’s alters. At least it feels like she is in on the joke. I think HBC takes herself and her *style* very very seriously.

  • LaSylphide

Does HBC keep buying the same dress, or does Westwood keep designing the same dress? Anyhow, what can you say except “Rock on girl.”

  • e jerry powell

Admit it: HB-C was invented to keep Vivienne Westwood in business.

  • Cathy S

OMG those glasses are so perfect for her. The neckline’s not so great but so what? It’s HBC.

  • acevedob

Everybody knows what the Weird Fashion Trinity is: Bjork, HBC and Tilda. Amen.

  • PeggyOC

Not to borrow a phrase, but “of course”.

  • padma sallah

Just seeing the pictures for this post made me feel so ridiculously happy. I love everything about this look SO much. And it goes without saying, I love her too. HBC FOR EVAH11!11

  • snarkykitten

She reminds me of my mother when she’s on a manic upswing, so I think that’s why I dislike her. :/ :/

    • Fordzo

((Hugs)) As one child of a mother with psychological issues to another, I understand. I hope your mom can achieve some peace and stability. Better living through pharmaceuticals!!!

  • kindwordsonly

That would work better with shoes rather then construction worker boots.

  • I want to go drinking with her now! Or drop acid or whatever… She is amazing and always wears what she wants to. She has no fucks to give whatsoever, which absolves her fashion sins for me. BTW, I own that clutch in red patent. It is fantastic, but I always feel a bit “costumey” when I carry it. Aspirational.

  • barbarienne

This is classic HBC and she looks smashing.

  • God I hope that’s a wig.

  • Anniebet

I usually adore her, crazy and all, but her crazy is usually accompanied by some lusciousness. Here, I’m not feeling it. Isn’t that bag, in many iterations, getting damned old? Usually her boots don’t look like galoshes either. Dress is standard Viv. And I won’t mention the sunglasses. No, I won’t. Or the spray tan on her lower legs.

  • MzzPants

    She’s my hero.

  • libraangel

This is authentic HBC, but I wonder if she ever gets sick of being sick? And double standard alert: why no love for Ms. Chloe S.?!

  • Never change you loopy tart. She looks fab!

  • Trisha26

She doesn’t give an Eff! Love her!

  • If you squint I was thinking Susan Sarandon on exstacy…

  • I can go with everything except the exposed lip liner.

  • Jecca2244

I wonder what she is like when she is just at home on a Sunday.

  • guest2visits

It’s a cute kind of look; but she could stand to retire the crazy lady cuteness for a while; I like this dress on her but I hate
the booties and the lips-clutch is on my nerves more than the flowered shades.

  • kathrineb

    Love the clutch.

  • Alxie

And she deliberately skewed her boobs to up the cray-cray. BOW DOWN.
