Cover Boy: Bradley Cooper for GQ UK Magazine

Posted on March 05, 2013

And now, your Daily Dose of Boy.

Bradley Cooper covers the April 2013 issue of GQ UK magazine photographed by Brigitte Lacombe.

We admit that we’re sometimes a little hard on him, because even though he tends to flub it on the details, he also tends to put the effort in on red carpet appearances. He also, we have to say, never said or did anything in an interview that annoyed us or had us yelling and throwing things in faux-anger. He was never in the “Irrational Hate” column for us; more like the “Slightly Irritating” one, but upon deep and meaningful reflection in our Reflection Garden here at T Lo Manor, we think we’re just going to have to move him over to “Mildly Inoffensive, Bordering on Nice.”

Aren’t you all fascinated by that? Riveting! Stay tuned for the reveal on all two dozen Celebrity Classification Columns in T Lo’s heads!

Anyway, we think this is one of the better cover pictures we’ve seen of him. He looks soft and relaxed, rather than try-too-hard, which is the more common impression we have of him.

Those eyes are giving Paul Newman’s a run for their money.

    • Sobaika

      I consider this blasphemous.

      • lovelyivy

It’s outright heresy. Bradley Cooper is a handsome dude, but Paul Newman was almost inhumanly gorgeous- he did not look real.

        • Unvacuous

          AGREE ++++

        • bitchybitchybitchy

As much as I like Bradley, and I definitely do, Paul Newman remains in his own special niche of male gorgeousness.

      • NurseEllen

I don’t think Bradley is nearly as attractive as Newman, who I agree was wonderfully handsome.  But their eyes are similar in their hypnotic blue-ness.  Unless, of course, it’s all been photoshopped here.  Who knows any more?

        • Sobaika

That’s the thing, they very likely have. It’s not like his eyes were jumping out at me during Silver Linings Playbook or anything. But watch Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and I defy you not to swoon into those steely blue pools.

    • Elizabeth Phillips

Richard Armitage is leaving them both in the dust.

    • LearnedFoot

I love that the text matches his eye color exactly.

      • Kristin McNamara

It’s almost as if they planned it! 😉

    • kingderella

those eyes arent real, are they? theyre freaky. as in coco-in-drag-race-confessionals freaky.

      otherwise he looks cute, though.

  • deltabronze

    • Alyssa

      Yes indeed!

  • newleaf1

I like that they left a line in his forehead.  Of course it’s photoshopped, just not THAT photoshopped.  He looks good.

    • RebeccaKW

Exactly what I was thinking.  So happy to see he has texture to his skin, and forehead lines.  And MYGODTHOSEEYES!

      • Derek_anny

To me, though, that texture on his skin looks like too much foundation.
Also, the fact that they seem to have Photoshopped out his left cheekbone bothers me.

  • Christina Diaz

i just saw silver linings playbook this weekend and LOVED his performance.  he was on my irrational hate by association (with squinty face) list, but i think i’ve come around.  also, those EYES.  good lord.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I was already a Bradley Cooper fan going into Silver Linings Playbook, and I was so impressed to see his performance in that film.

    • fursa_saida

I’m bipolar myself, and that performance (also the writing of the character) was almost cathartic for me. He deserves his accolades for this one.

  • MilaXX

He gets points simply for not having 20lbs of product in his hair. Also his eyes are the same color as my cat.

    • Tadiana

You have a blue cat? 😉  I found his eyes and hair so distracting I didn’t even notice at first that he has stubble.  Not that it’s bad stubble.  If you’re going to have stubble, it should look like Brad’s.

    • Jessi03

As your cat’s eyes?  Or is your cat super awesome and blue?  😀

      • MilaXX

lol, lemme fix that! She is super awesome, but only her eyes are blue.

        • Jessi03

Well, she could have been one of those glow in the dark kittens, so I wasn’t going to assume anything! Haha.

    • decormaven

Another positive vote for not shellacking that mane with product. And TLo, I’d enjoy every iteration of your Celebrity Classifications!

    • Deitra S.

Agreed 100%.  It’s all about the hair, or more specifically, the noticeable lack of product in his hair.  This has him looking like a beautiful human being rather than your brother’s douchey frat brother that you suspect might slip something in your drink.  Take note, Mr. Cooper: this is how you should look!

  • JLH

I always enjoy looking at him, but he appears to have exactly no amount of neck in this.

  • xmixiex

he’s so pretty.  in a (very handsome) regular guy kinda way.

  • kimmeister

His hair looks fantastic without so much product in it!  Lack of neck beard and even skin tone also do wonders.  You go, Will Tippen!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

I never gave him two thoughts until seeing Silver Linings Playbook.  He was amazing in that.  And LOOKED amazing – I mean seriously.  I never thought he looked all that before, or after.  Whatever they were doing with this hair and face in the movie – more of that, please!  And, he was wearing a garbage bag half the time!

  • gorghast

He did impress me in SLP, though I didn’t like the movie as a whole.

He has a strange jaw/chin region, though maybe it only seems so in photographs.

  • phylora

I heard him on Terri Gross and he was sweet, very down to earth and self-deprecating.

    • gabbilevy

I loved that interview, particularly the part when he talked about how awkward it is to pose for these photos. I don’t think I’ll ever see a guydatorial again without thinking of it.

      • phylora

        me, too!

    • aeb1986

I agree! I like when actors can have a sense of humor about themselves. If any of you haven’t seen him with Zach Galifianakis in the “Between Two Ferns” skit, its absolutely hilarious and will def make you love Bradley!

      • Imasewsure

That is one of my favorites too. Love that skit but that episode was the best so far.

    • formerlyAnon

Yeah, I thought “he is either one of the nicest guys around or he’s brilliant at managing his own image.”

  • Zeeshan Ali

Are some/one pictures missing from this post? The thumbnail pic is not in the post…

    • formerlyAnon

And I liked that thumbnail! 😉

      • 3boysful

At first quick glance, the thumbnail looked like Michael J Fox to me.

      • H2olovngrl

  • Pants_are_a_must

He looks a bit skewed, particularly around the chin. Is he trying the Harrison Ford smile?

(he seems nice, and for once, degreased. call me when GQ does covers like this for women, mild photoshopping and all)

    • gorghast

Yes! Someone else noticed the weird chin!

  • lehen

i feel like i can see makeup caked on his face

  • alyce1213

For me, Bradley crossed the line from mild irritation to respect with Silver Linings Playbook, in which he didn’t play the sexiest man alive.  Random thoughts:
Clothing-wise, he does try and I admire that.  He doesn’t always succeed, but he does better than most — I think he looks great much of the time.
He’s ‘an hairy man’ and needs to keep up with grooming his beard and neck hair.
His hair is so much better fluffy than slick.
We haven’t seen blue eyes like that since (dare I say?) Paul Newman.

    • Adriana_Paula

      Kudos on the Esau shout-out!

  • Alison Sigman

Is it bad I was more fascinated by the headlines than the picture. I wanna know about this Tom Cruise/Dustin Hoffman telephone box….

    • H2olovngrl

I thought the same thing! Was Tom doing the hard sell on Scientology and Dustin decided he had had enough? What? What happened? I want to know! I’m dying to know! I guess those cover blurbs are doing their job!

  • Jessi03

Thank you, GQ for doing your logo in blue so his eyes seriously pop.

  • ToothCake

It’s interesting how media is playing him up like a newcomer in a breaking role.  Hasn’t he been around for a while…?  I liked him in Kitchen Confidential.

  • Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

i used to irrationally dislike him, and then i caught a video of him being interviewed in france, and he responded fluently in french. and i was like, “yay!  way to REPRESENT!”  so he gets a pass from me from now on.

    • emmessell

That French video is teh sexy

    • 3boysful

I believe he also graduated from Georgetown.  No slouch, that.

  • Silly Grrl

He looks so much better without all that crunchy shit in his hair.

  • Erin

Oh, sure, for GQ he shaves his neck.  Where was your razor before the Oscars, Bradley?  Huh?  HUH?!

  • AwesomeMargie

He was never on my radar until that video of his interview in French showed up.  After that, I sat up straight and stuck my boobs out.

    • jmw1122

Ditto. I never watched Alias, so that interview going viral was the first time I paid any real attention to him. I was practically swooning through the entire clip.

      • AwesomeMargie

I have no idea what he said but DAMN.

  • juliesd

If you listen to his interview with Terri Gross on Fresh Air (Feb 7), you’ll like him even more.  He seems smart, unpretentious, and with a nice sense of humor.

  • Gabriella M

I’m sorry, only Michael J Fox can pull off that hair. He remains in my “slightly irritating” column just like most of the rest of the cast of “He’s Just Not That Into You” (Drew Barrymore gets a pass.)

    • MilaXX

That movie was so bad it’s good.  I have a ridiculous crush on Justin Long that allows me to forgive every bad movie he makes, and let’s face it, ALL of Justin Long’s movies are bad.

      • fursa_saida

I will not stand for this insult to Galaxy Quest. THAT MOVIE IS A CLASSIC.

        • MilaXX

I completely forgot he was in that. Okay so Justin has made at least one good movie. Make me love him all the more.

  • LocMama

Bradley’s OK.  He’s never made the nethers quake, but I’ve always had a soft spot because he was Will on Alias and a lovable dork on Kitchen Confidential.

  • j_anson

“Bradley Cooper: It’s Time to Take Him Seriously.” Ouch. Talk about your back-handed compliments.

  • christinewithanx

I softened on his CBS Sunday Morning interview a couple months ago. He was…dare I say…endearing?

  • Julie Chase

    He has beautiful eyes.

And a relative of his died at my mother’s hospice unit here in Philly-all of the nurses could not speak more highly of him, they said he was as sweet and kind as he was gorgeous. He always seems nice enough in interviews, so I’m inclined to believe them.

  • Alyssa

Thank you TLo for posting those beautiful baby blues! I’m glad he’s moved in your “Mildly Inoffensive” category…he’s always had the charm that just lures me in…the same charm that Ryan Reynolds uses on me. I can’t help it!

  • GorgeousThings

I heard an interview with him on “Fresh Air” and have had a soft spot for him since. He seems like a genuinely nice guy – not douchey and certainly not like most of his characters.

  • VioletFem

Nice cover. Never noticed how pretty his eyes are until now.

  • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

He was on my irrational hate list when he was with Renee Zellweger by default due to my dislike of her.  Once he broke it off, he moved into my ‘mildly offensive, bordering on nice” column. Over the years he has swiftly moved into the “so hot he could do as he pleases with me” column.

  • snarkykitten

well of course he looks soft…they photoshopped every last pore off his face!

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

      Unfortunately they missed the stubble.

  • Janet B

Finally a photo that shows off his lovely face without being distracted by his overdone hair.
I’ve watched him on Globe Trekker, I  like him. Plus he looks like a friend of mine who could be his older brother or maybe uncle.

  • Kathryn

Has TLo seen Silver Linings Playbook/what did TLo think of Silver Linings Playbook?  Inquiring minds/unborn fawns want to know…

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

he was on my ‘irrational hate’ list solely because he has the most beautiful, handsome face.  when the space aliens come and kidnap me — no, not tilda and the sev, but real ones — and re-engineer my body, i am going to ask for a face like his.  that boy is purty, especially when he doesn’t make his hair look wet and greasy.

  • Hetha Innis

Yet another reason I’m thrilled to get your book someday, to see who falls under what celeb classification columns!

  • marlie

His eyes are INSANE (in a VERY good way).

  • Danielle Lisle

    I kissed my screen.

  • Mars Tokyo

Eeeeeeeeew Bradley Cooper is sickening. And not in a good way.

  • mike__tv

  • Molly

    Those EYES!

  • cowper

  • jmw1122

I’m gonna have to go with Jakob Dylan on this one.

    • Nelliebelle1197

It always amazes me that Bob Dylan’s sperm made that. I was hanging with his group in a bar after a show years and years ago and he is more breathtaking face to face.

      • jmw1122

Oh my God! I am sooooo jealous right now! I’ve had a huge crush on him for YEARS. I’ve seen him in concert a few times both with and without The Wallflowers and was so swoony the entire time it was ridiculous.

  • Sara__B

His hair looks clean! Usually all I can notice is how slimy he looks.

  • mjude

i think he is just sweet

  • Imasewsure

He is forever golden to me because of the Hangover. He’s pretty too and puts the effort in on the RC – don’t get the irrational dislike (but then again, I have my list as well)

  • Unvacuous

oops hit like instead of reply.  Actually I do really like Richard Armitage, more than Bradley Cooper.  They are sorta similar looking but I prefer Richards longer face, darker hair and deep voice to Bradley.

  • Carrieanno

    Thank you.  Very much.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

So happy to see a fellow Armitage fan here!

  • raininmai

He looks very nice in blue. :)
I’ve been crazy about him ever since I heard him speak French. He’s not as fluent as Jodie Foster, but he’s not too bad and he’s adorable. I actually think he’s kind of shy, which gives him a certain charm.

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

That is an excellent boy-makeup job that is for sure. I think we should have a chart with the celebrity classifications.

  • Pamela

And he doesn’t have a gallon of product in his hair.  He can’t be THAT bad.  He’s a Philly boy, after all.

  • Janey

  • Toto Maya

Well of course he looks good when they photoshop all the grease off of him.

  • NurseEllen

Are we to infer, from the teaser at the right of the page, that Dustin Hoffman trapped Tom Cruise in a box?  Because if so, I must buy this magazine.  The visual, and the imagined dialogue, is mighty interesting.

  • fursa_saida

He looks sort of like Richard Armitage here and it’s freaking me out.

Also, if you want a reason to like him better (I went through a phase after Silver Linings Playbook because his portrayal of bipolar was so true to my own experiences), youtube “Bradley Cooper impressions.” He is actually great at impressions, which is a good look on just about anybody.

  • fursa_saida

Ha, I just commented that I thought Bradley Cooper looked weirdly similar to Armitage here in a way I’d never expected.

  • Martin C

This made me like him a lot better > Bradley Cooper asking Sean Penn a question in Inside The Actor’s Studio.

  • Aidan B

He’s never done it for me, but I must admit that I’m drawn to this picture of him! however, I am getting a slightly Richard Armitage vibe, so maybe that’s way…
But yeah, lovely to see him without a tub of Dapper Dan on his head.

  • EditKitten

Ralph Fiennes (in his “English Patient” days) remains my standard-bearer … and here, Bradley calmly takes the crown from my Ralph.

  • quiltrx

Hey look!  He washed his hair!  He doesn’t do much for me, but for him this is pretty good.

  • MannahattaMamma

lovely man, lovely eyes, but my mother always warned me to be wary of men with skinny lips: a sign of an ungenerous soul, she said. Mr Cooper has chicken lips & that makes me wonder about the state of his soul. Not that I’d kick him out of bed for eating crackers.

  • lobsterlen

Globe Trekker on PBS had an episode with Bradley Cooper as the host/traveler when he was a no one. It is unintentionally hilarious because Bradley is completely stoned during much of the show. The best part is when the group is watching a bear come up to their camp and Bradley seems completely amazed that there is bear in Alaska, “one moment there is no bear then the bear is there. the bear just walked up to our camp. Wow look at the bear smelling my cup….”

  • guest2visits

Right now, he’s one of those I can’t wait to see what he’ll be in next.  And yes; crazy beautiful eyes.

  • kathryn_dc

I think he has mean eyes and I just can’t get over that!

  • Sau-Chih Feng

Maybe it’s because he washed his hair for this?
